Judy F. Martin
(May 5, 1953 - March 7, 2011)
Judy Fonda Lyle Martin, age 57, a resident of Grannis, died Monday, March 07, 2011, at her home after a long battle with cancer. She was born to Jimmie Joe and Joyce Omega Mayo Lyle at Scotia, California, on May 5, 1953. She was former owner of Cutting Loose and Looking Good, former co-owner of Martin’s Quick Stop, and Martin’s Ice Company, as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the Wickes Pentecostal Church of God, a member of the Polk County Election Commission, where she served as Marshall, and vice president of the Gillham High School Alumni. She enjoyed Avon Collectables, collecting antique tins, gardening, butterflies, angels, and was a wonderful cook. She was a devoted wife and mother, and absolutely adored her grandchildren.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband of over 40 years, Randall Martin of Grannis, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jimmy Martin of Grannis, and Jess and Olivia Martin of Malvern, Ark. ; two grandchildren, Carter and Ethan Martin both of Malvern; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Janet Walker of Grannis, Bonita and Earl Flint, Jr., and Rhonda and Terry Paul Holman both of Wickes, and Dena and Cesar Rodriguez of Grannis, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Judy Martin will be held at 2:00 p. m., Wednesday, March 9th in the Wickes Pentecostal Church of God with Bro. Chris Burke, Bro. Homer Frachiseur, and Bro. James Squires officiating. Burial will follow in Baker Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 8th from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m.

Deborah Ann Bailey
(February 18, 1954 - March 6, 2011)
Deborah Ann Whisenhunt Bailey, age 57, a resident of Wickes, Arkansas, died Sunday, March 6th at her home. She was born to Harvey Don and Peggy Jo Brinkley Whisenhunt at De Queen, Arkansas, on February 18, 1954. She was a graduate of Gillham High School, and was an employee of the Wickes School System, as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wickes, and enjoyed riding horses, and 4-wheelers, yard work, gardening, fishing and camping, and spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Pam Smith.
She is survived by her husband of over 30 years, Buck Bailey, two sons, Brandon Bailey and Charli Roberts of Cove, Arkansas, and Tanner Bailey of Wickes, Arkansas; three daughters, Janelle and her husband, Todd Howell of Cove, Kim Bailey of Wickes, and Brittany Bailey, and her fiancé, Jeff Davis of Mena, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Brandi, Brooke, Kody, Brody, and Jakob, one brother and sister-in-law, Michael Don and Gina Whisenhunt of Gillham, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, March 7th from 6:00 to 8:00 P. M. Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Debbie Bailey will be held at 2:00 p. m., Tuesday, March 8th in the Mineral Cemetery, Gillham, with Bro. Scott Ray officiating.

Bobby Lynn Henry
(August 29, 1929 - March 3, 2011)
Bobby Lynn Henry age 81 of Rocky, died Thursday, March 3, 2011 at the Mena Manor Nursing and Rehab.
Bobby served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army. After the military he went to college and got his degree in Theology and began a long life of preaching the word God, not only from the pulpit but in his action toward his fellow man. Going to college and getting his degree was very special to Bobby. He was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church. During his working years, he worked for Weyerhaeuser Corrugated Container Division in Amarillo, Texas, where he was a maintenance man working on all the equipment. This is where he retired from. Just recently Bobby was introduced to the World Wide Web and Facebook. He would spend all night looking for people and checking on his kids and grandkids. He enjoyed his computer, woodworking, where he would make Ocarinas, which is a mountain flute and fishing. Fishing was a passion of Bobby’s and loved to drown a worm.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Rachel Henry; his second wife, Donna Henry; one son Kenneth Henry; one brother, Doyle Henry and two sisters, Fay Henry and Ethel Friday.
Survivors include one son, Terry Henry of Valrico, Florida; one daughter, Vickie Nichols of Rush Springs, Oklahoma; three brothers, Richard Henry of Amarillo, Texas, Patrick Henry of Amarillo, Texas and Kenneth Henry of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister, Virginia Ray of Mena; eight grand children; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 2:00 P. M. at the Hillcrest Baptist Church with Brother Floyd Folsom officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Gilead Cemetery in Rocky under the direction of Hall Funeral Service in Mena. Visitation will be Friday, March 4, 2011 from 6-8 P. M. at the Hall Funeral Service Chapel.
Memorial Contribution can be made to the Mt. Gilead Cemetery Association.

Mary "Gertrude" Simpson
(March 23, 1922 - March 4, 2011)
Mary “ Gertrude” Simpson, age 88, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Friday, March 04, 2011 in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
She was born on March 23, 1922 in Waldron, Arkansas to the late William B. Johnson and late Grace Meadows Johnson. She was married to Lonnie L. Simpson for sixty-seven years and was a caring homemaker. Gertrude loved camping, sewing, working on Family Genealogy and collecting photos of her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to all who knew and loved her. She is survived by: Husband: Lonnie L. Simpson of Mena

Daughter: Lora Jane Campbell and husband Arlyn of Red Oak, Texas
Grandchildren: Wendy Maxwell of Arkadelphia, Arkansas Darren Simpson of Gurdon, Arkansas Clint Campbell of Coppell, Texas Clay Campbell of Lewisville, Texas Crystal Carroum of Dallas, Texas
Ten Great-Grandsons: Corey Welch, Dillon Maxwell, Rylee Maxwell, Dustin Simpson, Devin Simpson, C. J. Campbell, Josh Campbell, Owen Campbell, Jacob Campbell, and Lucas Campbell
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Grace Johnson, and her eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be Monday, March 7, 2011, 3:00 p. m. in the Beasley-Wood Chapel with Brother Brian Richardson officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena. Family and friends visitation will be Sunday, March 06, from 4:00 – 6:00 p. m. at Beasley-wood Funeral Home of Mena.
Pallbearers will be Darren Simpson, Clint Campbell, Clay Campbell, David Maxwell, Dustin Simpson and Dillon Maxwell. Honorary pallbearers will be her ten Great-Grandsons
Memorials may be made to Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

Opal Roxie Phillips
(July 16, 1920 - March 2, 2011)
Opal Roxie Phillips, age 90, of Smithville, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011 in McAlester .
She was born July 16, 1920 in Big Cedar, Oklahoma to the late Tom Parnell and the late Roxie Kennedy Parnell. She was united in marriage to the late Raymond Darrell Phillips. Opal was a homemaker and a gifted quiltmaker and seamstress, a talent that she and her family were very proud of. But her greatest joy was her family, especially spoiling all her grandchildren! She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend, and will be dearly missed.
She is survived by:
Children: Rodney DeWayne Phillips and wife Vickie of Cove, Arkansas
Darrell Delaine Phillips and wife Mary of Smithville, Oklahoma
Patricia Gail Huddleston and husband Rick of McAlester, Oklahoma

Shea Cordeiro, Kayla Edwards, Hannah Huddleston, Kim Romine,
and Pamela Romine Amling
Numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Roxie Parnell, her husband Raymond Phillips, 13 brothers and sisters, 4 children, Anna Nichols, Lonnie Romine, Janice Romine, Floyd Romine, a grandchild, Kevin Romine and a great-great-grandchild, Koda M. Romine.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 2:00 p. m. at the Indian Baptist Church at Smithville with Pastor Raymond Johnson officiating. Interment follows in Smithville Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation at the funeral home will be general. The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, March 4, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. at Hidden Valley Retreat Cabins on River Front Resort Road at Smithville.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters.

Brinda Irene Thomas
(September 5, 1944 - March 1, 2011)
Brinda Irene Thomas, age 66, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2011 in Hot Springs.
She was born September 5, 1944 in Mena, Arkansas to the late R. L. Johnson and Mary Smedley Kesterson. She retired from Aalfs in Mena and was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
She is survived by:
Mother: Mary Kesterson and her husband Vaughn of Mt. Ida, Arkansas
Daughters: Donna Crawford of Sheridan, Arkansas Trina Schulze of Cove, Arkansas Brothers: Kipp Kesterson of Magnet Cove, Arkansas Blue Kesterson of Malvern, Arkansas Tad Kesterson of Mt. Ida, Arkansas
Sisters: Sheila Johnson of Mt. Ida, Arkansas Joan Baker of Wickes, Arkansas
6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of loving friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, R. L. (Bo) Johnson.
Ms. Thomas was sent for cremation under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. No services have been scheduled at this time.

Zerma Marie Horn George
(January 3, 1935 - April 23, 2011)
Zerma Marie Horn George, age 76, of Idabel, Oklahoma, formerly of Hatton, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2011 in Idabel.
She was born January 3, 1935 in America, Oklahoma to the late Robert Moody Horn and the late Pally Jennings Horn. She was united in marriage to Millard Lester (Pete) George. She was a sanitation worker for Tyson Foods and was of the Christian faith. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by:

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Pally Horn, her husband, Millard Lester (Pete)George, 2 sisters, Estelle Horn and Edith Neal, and 2 brothers, James “Bo” Horn and Roy “Buck” Horn.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, April 27, 2011 2:00 p. m. at Witherspoon Cemetery at Vandervoort with Dr. Douglas DeRamus officiating. Arrangements are under the direction the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday evening, April 26, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be David Randoff, Jimmy Hunter, Eric Billings, Paul Geroge, Jimmy Alford, Mickey Tunnell, Bobby Horn, and Mike Horn. Honorary pallbearer will be Morris England and Perrell Dering.

John T. Hammond
(May 25, 1936 - April 21, 2011)
Mr. John T. Hammond, age 74, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011, at his home.
He was born May 25, 1936 in Mena, Arkansas to the late Homer S. Hammond and the late Georgia M. Harrison Hammond. He was a carpenter by profession and was of the Baptist faith. John was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Georgia Hammond, 2 brothers, Edward and Howard Hammond and by a sister, Ann Ryan.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 11:00 a. m. at the Beasley-Wood Chapel with Brother Dardanelle Townsley officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
Visitation will be general.

Mildred Chaney

Mildred Chaney, age 68, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011 at her home.
She was born November 18, 1942 in Baltimore City, Maryland to the late Orva Eugene Morris and the late Dorothy Mabel Medford Morris. She was united in marriage to Clayton Chaney. She was a loving homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be missed by her loving family and friends.

Interment follows in Rocky Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be Sunday evening, April 24th from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be William Willis, Doston LaShum, Travis Chaney, Freddie Chaney, Jason Chaney, and Aaron Morse. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Leif Chaney, Chad Watts, and Tristen Watts.
