Jacob Howard Aleshire (January 25, 1923 - May 6, 2011) Jacob Howard Aleshire, age 88, of Mena passed away Friday, May 6, 2011 in Mena. Howard was born January 25, 1923 in Mineola, Arkansas, to the late Andrew Hollowell Aleshire and Rena Randall Aleshire. He worked on the pipe line and in construction. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and a friend to all who knew him. Mr. Alsehire served his country in the United States Army. He was in the 35th Division of the 320 Regiment, 3rd Battalion in Central Europe, Northern France, Normandy and the Rhineland Ardennes. He served under Patton’s 3rd Army at the Battle of Bulge. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Europan – Africian Middle Eastern Campaign Metal with Silver Stars, Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Metal and Good Conduct Metal. He is survived by: Three Sons: Don “Duck” Hovator of Mena, Arkansas Larry Aleshire of Benton, Arkansas Rick Aleshire of Baytown, Texas Two Daughters: Betty Carol Rodgers of Mena, Arkansas La Donna Mohr of Mena, Arkansas Two Brothers: Lenard Aleshire of Board Camp, Arkansas Maynard Aleshire of Board Camp, Arkansas Four Sisters: Edna Graham of Iowa Delpha Wanger of Illinois June Susag of North Dakota Veda McKee of Alaska 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Rena Aleshire, and one brother, John Aleshire. Graveside services will be Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 10:00 a. m. in the Old Dallas cemetery in Mena with Reverend Niles White officiating under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena. military honors will be rendered by the United States Army and the Polk County Veterans Organization. Stinnett (November 20, 1917 - May 4, 2011) Hazel C. Stinnett, age 93, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011 in Mena, Arkansas. She was born November 20, 1917 at Hatfield, Arkansas to Frank and Mattie Dillard, who preceded her in death. She was also the widow of Julius (J. B. ) Bev Stinnett. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Bobby J. Stinnett, 2 sisters, Bonnie Harris and Opal Lawrence, and 3 brothers, Carl Dillard, Argus Dillard and Claude Dillard. She is survived by a Daughter, Betty Philpot and husband Bill, of Mena, Arkansas; Daughters-in-law, Carolyn Stinnett and Carmelita Rutherford, of Catoosa, Oklahoma; Grandsons, Buddy Philpot and wife Jamie of Springdale, Arkansas, and Rodney Stinnett of Catoosa, Oklahoma; Granddaughter, Tonia Harrison and husband Robert of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Great-Grandchildren, Hannah Philpot of Springfield, Missouri, Sarah Philpot and Matthew Philpot of Springdale, Arkansas, Josh Hutchins, Rachel Harrison, Brittany Stinnett and Sterling Stinnett of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Great-Great-Grandson, Hunter Charles Slater of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was of the Nazarene faith and a long time member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Mena, Arkansas. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 1:00 p. m. at the Beasley-Wood Chapel with Brother Dinky Doss officiating. Interment follows in Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be general. Katherine Hamman (June 29, 1931 - May 4, 2011) Katherine Hamman, age 79, of Parks, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at her home. She was born June 29, 1931 in Canandaigua, New York to the late Frederick Walker and the late Katherine Van Damme Walker. She was united in marriage to Orville Hamman. Mrs. Hamman was a loving homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Rosa Mae McCloud (April 5, 1913 - May 1, 2011) Mrs. Rosa Mae McCloud, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away May 1, 2011, at the age of 98 in Mena. She was born April 5, 1913 at May Pearl, Texas to John Hansford Roberts and Miranda Jane Williams Roberts. Her life was mostly at Hatfield and Mena, Arkansas. She was a nurse at the Mena and Redman Hospitals in the 1940’s. Later, she and her husband, Mr. Chester L. McCloud owned and operated Rosa’s nursing home on Janssen Avenue for 16 years. She was a homemaker, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many, and was a member of the Church of Christ. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Chester McCloud; son, Larry G. McCloud; parents, John and Miranda Roberts; 2 brothers, Aaron and John Roberts; 3 sisters, Baby Maud Roberts, Florence Richards, and Lillie Markle Powell; 4 nephews, Paul and Ralph Markle and Calvin and David Richards; 4 step-children, Rose Mary Dill, May Ellen Koski, Kenneth McCloud, and Chester Loren McCloud. Survivors are 1 grandson, Scott McCloud and family; 1 granddaughter, Karla McCloud; 2 step-children, Billa Cunningham and Allen McCloud of Florida; 3 grandchildren, Nita Faye Helmick, Sharon Smith, and Gary McCloud all of Indiana, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. James Nolen Cauthron (March 9, 1943 - April 30, 2011) James Nolan Cauthron, age 68, of Van Buren, Arkansas formally of Hatton, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011 in Van Buren, Arkansas. James was born on March 09, 1943 in Hatton, Arkansas to the late Olin Cauthron and late Lela Jordan Cauthron Cook. He is united in marriage to Glenda Sue Cauthron. James had a passion for farming and raised livestock for many years and worked for Terminex, until he retired. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and will be missed by all who knew him. Marion Jans Lee (July 28, 1921 - June 30, 2011) Marion Jans Lee, age 89, of The Woodlands, Texas, formerly of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2011 in The Woodlands, Texas. She was born in Offenbach am/ Main, Germany on July 28, 1921 and immigrated as a child with her parents and brother in 1927. She was united in marriage to Chester B. Lee, who preceded her in death after 58 years of marriage. She and Chester raised their family in New York City, New York, where she was the executive assistant for the Medical Society of the State of New York . After retirement, they purchased their panoramic Lake Wilhelmina hillside home in 1973. She and her husband quickly involved themselves in community life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women’s Association, and was active in the Humane Society of the Ouachitas, the Homemaker’s Extension Club, the Mena Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary, Mena Nature Club, Ouachita Little Theater, Eastern Star and enjoyed Senior Classes at Rich Mountain Community College. Mrs. Lee loved sitting on her patio each day admiring the sunsets and looking up at Queen Wilhelmina Lodge. Having spent 32 years in Mena, she often stated she would not trade her country house for city life again, . After suffering a stroke in 2005, it was necessary for Mrs. Lee to reside in care facilities nearer her family in the Houston area of The Woodlands, Texas. She is survived by three daughters: Marianne Kathryn and husband Jim L. Foreman of Las Cruces, NM; Susanne Augusta and husband John B. Downes, III of Crofton, MD; Rosemarie Margarete and husband William H. Kelly of The Woodlands, TX. Grandchildren: Victoria Lynn Freeman of Cypress, TX; Commander John Bertram Downes, U. S. Navy, Washington, D. C. ; Geoffrey Miller Downes and wife, Sara, Ventura, CA; Douglas Lee Downes and wife Veronika, Crofton, MD; Captain Ryan Lee Kelly, U. S. M. C., and wife Nicole, Monterey, CA; Patrick Chester Kelly, Los Angeles, CA Great-Grandsons: Bryce Avery Freeman and newborn, August Edward Downes. Siblings: Heinz Edward Jans and sister-in-law Caroline Jans of Cape Cod, MA. Extended family: Numerous nieces and nephews; cousins Dieter and Franz Jans in Germany. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eduard and Katharina Mueller Jans, her husband, Chester Bertram Lee and granddaughter, Kathryn Alise Foreman. Mrs. Lee was “Oma” to her grandchildren and will be forever loved and missed by all. Mrs. Lee was sent for cremation under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. William "Bill" John Galloway (August 26, 1938-June 26, 2011) William “Bill” Galloway age 72 of Mena died Sunday, June 26, 2011 at St Joseph’s Mercy Health Center in Hot Springs. He was born on Friday, August 26, 1938 to John and Willimina Galloway in Iowa. Bill retired from 20 years of service to the United States Army and received the Purple Heart. He served during the Vietnam Era. After the military he worked overseas on the oil pipelines and soon retired to Mena. Bill enjoyed the outdoors; go fishing and also shooting. He enjoyed the competing in shooting contests. Guns were a hobby to Bill. He was a very good gunsmith liked to swop guns. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. Bill ran a swine farm for many years here in Mena. Bill enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Chintana Galloway of the home; one son Kelly Galloway of Mena, one daughter and son in law Lisa and Eric “Doc” Sorge of Mena; three grandchildren, Amanda Thompson of Goose Creek, South Carolina, April Ganster of Mena and Emiley Sorge of Mena; with a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial services will be held Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 10:00 A. M. with Brother Donnie Jewell Officiating at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena.
