Marco Antonio M. Gonzales, 22, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 8, 2009. He was born November 25, 1986 to Alfonso C. Gonzales and Rosalinda Morales Gonzales. He was preceded in death by his father Alfonso C. Gonzales, grandfathers’ Ruperto V. Morales and Augustin Gonzales, grandmothers’ Alicia U. Morales and Patrocina C. Gonzales. Marco is survived by his daughter Arzelya Linda Gonzales, his mother Rosalinda M. Gonzales, brother Alfonso M. Gonzales, Jr. (wife Amanda L.) and sister Rosalinda Morales (boyfriend Carlos A. Almada). He also leaves behind his beloved girlfriend Iris Ortiz and two half brothers and half sisters Louie, Ricky, Lorraine and Irene Gonzales from Tucson, Arizona along with many loved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Marco will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him. He was a great Son, wonderful Father and last but not least, an unbeatable Brother, Tio and Friend. We must always remember to have hope in tomorrow, have faith in the everlasting, and take comfort in the love of friends and family. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Church. A Mass of the Resurrection will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2009 also at Immaculate Conception Church with Father James Baka officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Bernardo Rios-Loreto passed away on January 12, 2009 in Tucson, AZ. He is survived by his parents Heriberto and Ramona Rios. Surviving also are his sisters Ana Lilia (Jose Luis) Pacheco, Alma Angelina (Fernando) Melendez, and Liz Maria (Gerardo) Tapia. Services are pending and times will be available.

Madeline Giacoma Wyatt
March 10, 1913, January 10, 2009
A candle flame has flickered and taken its last breath. On January 10, 2009, Madeline Giacoma Wyatt, Tombstone’s Gracious Lady, died peacefully in her home in Tombstone, Arizona. Madeline was born on March 10, 1913 to her loving parents, Anthony P. (Tony) and Katherine (Katie) Giacoma. Hers was a family of heritage who were committed civic leaders and pioneers in the mining industry in Tombstone. Madeline continued that legacy as a pioneer and educator, touching countless students for four generations who will remember her as their teacher, principal, and mentor.
Madeline loved Tombstone, leaving only to attend Tempe Normal (now Arizona State University) and to take summer classes to continue her higher education. She started teaching in 1934 as a third grade teacher in Tombstone earning $80 a month and volunteering to teach music, drama, and dancing. She was also the girls PE teacher. Madeline later became the principal of the Walter J. Meyer Elementary School, the Huachuca City School and the John L. Wyatt Junior High School, a position she held for more than 30 years. She received her Master’s Degree in School Administration from the University of Arizona. Along with her husband, John, who was a teacher and the Tombstone High School principal, Madeline gave countless hours to her community and the students of Tombstone, teaching them respect and discipline for more the 46 years until she retired in 1979.
For over a quarter of a century Madeline directed Tombstone’s “Candlelight Tea”, a grand event that included formal tea and a Christmas program she put on for the community. Her favorite production was “The Littlest Angel”. Madeline also played the piano and organ for the Catholic church, and chaired the American Cancer Society and Heart Association fund raising efforts in the county for too many years to count.
She was bestowed countless honors and awards and was always heard to say, ‘I was just doing my job.” In 1979 when Tombstone celebrated its centennial, Madeline was unanimously selected as the Citizen of the Century. Madeline was a member of the prestigious Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority where she served as a state officer and was nominated as Woman of Achievement. In 1970 Madeline also received the first award by the Cochise County Education Association for Outstanding Educator at a ceremony attended by more than 600 of her former students.
Madeline Giacoma Wyatt was also heralded as the Grand Marshall for parade events including Helldorado and the Rose Celebration. Though the countless honors and awards were “lovely”, Madeline always said her most esteemed rewards were the success of her students. Her gifts of generosity, mentorship, leadership, humor and sincerity will etch a lasting impression on many lives. In Madeline’s own words:
“To my students, young and old, I thank you sincerely for your love, respect and ability to understand that all decisions were made with your best interests at heart, to use your talents to the fullest and to be the most successful in whatever activities you enjoyed.”
Madeline is preceded in death by her parents, Tony and Katie Giacoma, her beloved husband John L. Wyatt, and her two sisters, Katherine Archer and Adelaide Hoffman. She is survived by her nieces Sondra Burke (Jim) of Atlanta, Georgia, Barbara Hill (Sam; sons Matthew and James) of Dallas, Texas, Madeline Shefferly (Steve; sons Brian and Kyle) of Parker, Colorado, her nephew Gary Archer (Mary-Ann; Jessica and Ali) of Santa Rosa, California, and a cousin, Madeline Lewis of Tucson.

Robert G. Zazueta - “Grampa Beto”

At the age of 97, Robert G. Zazueta passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at the University Medical Center in Tucson, AZ. Robert was born in Pirtleville, AZ on October 12, 1911. He lived in Douglas until 1999, when his beloved wife, Barbara, passed away and he moved to Sierra Vista to live with his son and family.
Robert was an honorable, knowledgeable and loving man. He enjoyed reading and had a true love for books, baseball, western movies and playing games with his grandchildren. In his younger years you would often find him sitting on the floor in the den with them, playing a game which he had made. He was great with numbers and often made up number games to help his grandchildren learn their math. He always had a story to tell them or a project to share with them. This man never drove a car and would walk the distance of the City of Douglas on a daily basis to pay his bills, get his groceries and visit with his friends along the way. Many times his walk would extend to Pirtleville to visit his sister or to Agua Prieta for a haircut. When his grandchildren would join him on his walks, they would play the “Lucky Penny” game and the first one to find the penny was the winner. In Sierra Vista, Grandpa Beto would often be seen walking down Foothills Drive until he would reach his favorite shady spot, where he would sit on his walker for hours greeting people with a friendly wave as they drove by.
Robert served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941-1945 and was proud to be a Veteran. In the late 1940’s, on a humble little baseball field in Pirtleville known as Estrada/Nevarez Field, Robert’s voice would echo through the area as he boldly announced all the activity of the game. The team was the Pirtleville Tigers and to those lifelong friends, Robert was fondly known as “Kacharka.” In 1951, Robert met and married Barbara Rivera. They were married for 48 years. In 1973, Robert retired from Phelps Dodge where he worked for 25 years. He then started a little side job as The Taxman to friends and the elderly. Showing his compassion and love for others, his fee was usually a simple $10.00.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, his parents, Juan and Maria, his brother Juan, two brothers who died as children, both named Alejandro and a step-daughter, Carol Garcia-Lara.
Our dear Grandpa Beto is survived by his sons, Robert(Tina) of Sierra Vista, and Ronnie(Gloria) of Tucson; five grandchildren Brian(Sarah) Zazueta, Rob(Marnee) Zazueta, Audra Jo Zazueta(Carlos Moreno) and Christopher Zazueta as well as Elyssa Zazueta of Tucson. He was adored by his great-grandchildren, Erich, Nico, Myranda, Anthony, Ethan, Alexia and James and leaves four loving sisters, Aida Alvarado of Douglas, Herminia Lopez, Teresa Cordova, and Lucy Martinez all residing in California. Family members also include Robert and Linda Aguilar, Matt Robertshaw, Caterina Zazueta, three step-children, twelve step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, January 21st at 1:00 p.m. at the Southern Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery
on Buffalo Soldier Trail in Sierra Vista. Following the services, the family will gather at the home of Robert and Tina Zazueta, 900 Verde Drive, Sierra Vista, AZ. Cremation provided by Hatfield Funeral Home.
Grandpa Beto was a man who never possessed or desired worldly possessions but lived his life richly and fully. He became the king of our home in Sierra Vista and has left a huge emptiness in our lives. We were very blessed to share many years with him, but sharing the last ten years with him in our everyday lives are priceless moments which his family will always cherish. We will miss you dearly Grandpa and We Love You very much.

Adalberto Valencia - “Big Al,” “Tata Bert”
December 3, 1942 - January 14, 2009
Adalberto “Big Al”-“Tata Bert” was born December 3, 1942, and passed away on January 14, 2009 in Douglas, AZ.
Surviving Tata Bert is his loving wife Rosemary Valencia of 45 years of marriage.
Surviving also are his son Adalberto (Guadalupe) Valencia Jr. and daughters Cecilia Valencia, Sandra (Ken) Nelson, Luisa (Frank) Sin, Angelica (Ricky) Verdugo. He also leaves behind his brothers John Valencia, Salvador Valencia and sisters Evangelina Valencia, Petra Navarro, and Hortencia Durazo.
Tata Bert was the proud grand father of 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Big Al worked for the Douglas Public Schools for over 30 years. He was well known and loved in the community. He will be dearly missed.
Rosary was Friday, January 16, 2009-7:00 p.m. in the main chapel of Adair Douglas Funeral Chapel, with Deacon Rudy Navarro. Mass of the Resurrection was Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Church, with Fr. Armando Espinoza officiating.
Following the mass Big Al was laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers were Emilio Valencia Jr., Victoriano Higuera, Ricky Verdugo Jr., Frank Sin, Lamberto Vasquez, and Salvador Valencia Jr., Serving as Honorary-Pallbearers were Victor Altamirano, Mark Lopez, Hector Martinez, Yayi Sin, Ken Nelson, Adalberto Valencia Jr., Vicente Cardona, Jr., Francisco Quintana, and John Valencia.

Gabriel “Gaby” Arvizu
March 24, 1965 - January 18, 2009
Gabriel “Gaby” Arvizu passed away on January 18, 2009. He was born on March 24, 1965.
He is survived by his parents Nicolas and Guadalupe Arvizu; his brothers Martin Arvizu, Miguel (Erica) Arvizu, Jose (Michelle) Arvizu and sisters Lupita Arvizu and Jessica Arvizu.
He was the father of two daughters Ailani and Stephanie and one son, Alex. He was a grandfather of two children.
Gabriel is survived also by numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
He attended schools here in Douglas and lived all of his life here in Douglas.
The rosary was held on Monday, January 19 at St. Luke’s Church and burial was on January 20 at Calvary Cemetery.
The Arvizu family would like to thank all the wonderful family, relatives and friends who supported us through this hard time. Gabriel will be greatly missed by all.

Sarah Alvarado Valencia passed away on January 23, 2009, in Tucson, AZ. Mrs. Valencia was born in Douglas, AZ on September 8, 1923. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emilio Moreno Valencia, and her son, Antonio A. “Kika” Valencia. She is survived by daughters: Alice (Armando) Flores of Safford, AZ; Mary (Adalberto) Bernal, Esperanza Valencia, and Celina (Gilbert) Estrada of Tucson, AZ; and Ana Valencia and Monica Montes De Oca of Douglas, AZ. Sons: Emilio Jr., (Rametl) of Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico; Albert (Rosalinda) of Phoenix, AZ; and Carlos (Olivia) of Tucson, AZ. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the members of Valor Hospice in Tucson, AZ, for their compassionate care of our Mother. Private family services will be held at a later date with internment at Calvary Cemetery.

Roy Joel Allen, 77, of Wenden died May 6, 1999 at Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix. He was born in Otis, Colo., and had lived in Arizona 20 years. He worked in construction and was a heavy equipment operator.

Former Globe resident Donald Glen Bollock, 67, Rapid City, S.D., died May 20, 1999 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. He was born in Rapid City and lived in Mesa and Globe for 17 years after serving in the Air Force.
Boutwell
Myrtle C. Boutwell, 86, died May 21, 1999 at Heritage Health Care Center. She was a homemaker who was born in Emery.
Franklin
Cynthia "Cindy" Franklin, 53, of Top of the World died May 22, 1999 at Cobre Valley Community Hospital. She was born in Chicago, Ill., and had lived in Arizona 12 years. She worked as a union laborer in construction.
Walker
Lester Walker, 86, of Globe died May 12, 1999. He was born in Oak Grove, Texas. He was a World War II Navy veteran and an electrical worker.
Haddock
Ruth C. Haddock, 75, of Miami died Oct. 1, 1999 at Hospice Family Care in Mesa. She came to Arizona from Massachusetts 47 years ago. She was a member of the American Baptist Church, Women's Missionary Society, Globe-Miami Literary Club, and American Legion Women's Auxiliary.
Steinke
Mark William Steinke, 36, of Globe died Sept. 25, 1999 at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital. He was born in Miami and was a lifelong area resident. He was a heavy equipment operator for Ram Engineering.
Baroldy
Mary Baroldy, 81, of Miami died Feb. 24, 2000 at Heritage Health Care Center in Globe. She was born in Miami and was a lifelong resident.
She operated the Co-Ed Beauty Salon in Miami and also worked in the family grocery store, Becerril's Market.
Survivors include her husband, Louis Baroldy of Miami; one daughter, Brenda Davis of Las Vegas, Nev.; one son, Gary Baroldy of Globe; two sisters, Angel Blanco of Central Heights and Connie Sandoval of Globe; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Miami. Rosary will be at 6 p.m. at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday, March 2, at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment will follow at Globe Cemetery. Lamont Mortuary of Globe is in charge of arrangements.
Giovando
Lena Giovando, 80, died Feb. 18, 2000 at her home in Globe. Born in El Paso, Texas, she was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and the Italian Women of America.
Survivors include two sons, John Giovando of Santa Fe, N.M., and Kenneth Giovando of Tempe; one daughter, Gerry Crocker of Goldsboro, N.C.; three sisters, Mary Daou of Globe, Angie De Santis and Helen Colapret of El Paso; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
A memorial mass was celebrated Feb. 24 at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Miles-Damron Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Banner Hospice, 2250 E. Highway 60, Suite B, Miami, AZ 85539.
Bates
Mark James Bates, 36, of San Carlos died Feb. 17, 2000 in San Carlos. He was born in San Carlos and was a lifelong resident. He was a laborer in the copper mine.
Survivors include his mother, Zona Juan Victor of Phoenix; one brother, Ronald Bates of San Carlos; and one sister, Lorraine Belknap of San Carlos.
Funeral services for Mr. Bates were conducted Feb. 25 at World Evangelist Revival Center. Interment followed in San Carlos Cemetery. Lamont Mortuary of Globe handled arrangements.
Damron
Funeral services for former Globe resident Faye Peck Damron, 79, were conducted Feb. 26, 2000 at the Pima Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She died Feb. 21 at Cobre Valley Community Hospital.
She was born and reared in Bryce and moved to Globe in 1949 with her husband, Chester Damron. She was a member and past president of the Rebekahs, an active member of the Central Heights Fire Belles and her church, and a volunteer at Gila General Hospital.
Survivors include one son, Daniel, of Pima; and many nieces and nephews.
Caldwell Funeral Home of Safford handled arrangements.
Reiners
John E. Reiners, 78, of Globe died Feb. 20, 2000 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Tucson. He was born in Beaver, Pa.
He served with the U.S.O. while in the armed forces and was stationed in North Africa. After his discharge, he settled in New York City then moved to California in 1947. He had one of the first Stanley Steamer franchises in Los Angeles, Calif. He later owned a hot dog cart, opened a restaurant in Los Angeles, a doughnut shop in Oxnard, Calif., then moved to Flagstaff and opened a doughnut shop there. He retired to Prescott then moved to Globe in 1985.
He is survived by a nephew, Don Cappell, of Spring Valley, Calif.
Bernal
Oscar Robert Ruiz Bernal, 88, of Superior died March 28, 2001 at Copper Mountain Inn in Globe. He was born in Hayden and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, the Magma Club and Superior Senior Citizens. He was a retired welder from Magma Copper Company.
Castellanos
Maria Luisa Castellanos, 96, of Globe died March 27, 2001 at Cobre Valley Community Hospital. She moved here 88 years ago from Mexico and was a member of the Catholic group Guadalupanes.
