Vera Mae Smith

A funeral for Vera Mae Smith, 75, of Fairfield will be held at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Vacaville. Pastor Leroy Gainey of First Baptist will officiate. Burial will be at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born Sept. 8, 1924, in Earlsboro, Okla., Mrs. Smith died Dec. 19, 1999, at her home.

A homemaker for 56 years, Mrs. Smith enjoyed sewing, reading, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Paul of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Randy Hough of Martinez; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Sue of Glendale, Ariz., Tommy and Jan of Vacaville and Ron and Donna of Aptos; grandchildren, Jerry Smith of Mesa, Ariz., Andy, Robbie and Chad Armosino, all of Martinez, Ryan and Kelli Smith of Vacaville, Stacee Kamman of Vacaville and Dustin Smith of Aptos; sisters, Betty Matson of Shawnee, Okla., Carolyn McSperrit of Tecumseh, Okla., and Darlene Wright of Iowa Park, Texas; brothers, Ken and Phil Jackson of Tecumseh; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. today at First Baptist Church.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Deacon Fund at First Baptist Church, 1127 Davis St., Vacaville, 95687.

Arrangements are under the direction of Vaca Hills Chapel.

Anna Wirchniansky

A memorial service for Anna Wirchniansky, 81, of Fairfield will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Fairfield Funeral Home. Chaplain Jessie France of NorthBay Hospice will officiate. Inurnment will be at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Mrs. Wirchniansky died on Dec. 16, 1999, at Elmhurst Haven Convalescent Home after a long illness.

Born on Jan. 2, 1918, in Cave Spring, Va., she lived in Fairfield for the past 46 years. She also lived at Leisure Gardens in Vacaville for a short time about a year ago. She was a homemaker and a member of Women of the Moose in Fairfield. She also volunteered for the Red Cross in Fairfield for more than 25 years and served as manager of the Red Cross Thrift Shop. She received the Clara Barton Award for humanitarian disaster relief.

Mrs. Wirchniansky is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Donnie of Vacaville; and grandson, Mark of Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief or NorthBay Hospice.

Virginia 'Ginny' M. Almendarez

A memorial service for Virginia "Ginny" M. Almendarez, 53, of Fairfield will be 11 a.m. Sunday at Liberty Christian Center in Fairfield. Pastor Richard West will officiate. Burial will be private at Rockville Cemetery.

Mrs. Almendarez died on Dec. 18, 1999, at her home in Fairfield after a long illness.

Born on July 3, 1946, in New York, she lived in Fairfield for the past 29 years after having lived in Jamaica, N.Y., where she grew up. She graduated from John Adams High School in Queens, N.Y. She was first employed by the New York Telephone Co. before transferring to Pacific Bell when she moved to California. She later worked for Solano County in various departments. She was a member of the Liberty Christian Center of Fairfield, where she served as a counselor and greeter/usher.

Mrs. Almendarez is survived by her husband, Charley of Fairfield; sons, Chris and David of Fairfield; sisters, Arlene O'Daniels of Bayshore, N.Y., and JoAnn Sullivan of Parsippany, N.J.; brothers, Bobby O'Daniels of Liberty, N.Y., Steve O'Daniels of Goshen, N.Y., Raymond O'Daniels of Long Island City, N.Y., Billy O'Daniels of New York and Travelle O'Daniels of San Francisco; foster mother and father, Jean and Marty Pigulski of Jamaica; and foster sisters, Rita Pigulski of Jamaica and Delores Wilk of Long Island.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Evelyn O'Daniels; and sister, Jeannie.

Arthur Neal Rule

A funeral for Arthur Neal Rule, 55, of Vacaville will be 1 p.m. Friday at Los Gatos Memorial Cemetery. Burial will be at the cemetery.

Mr. Rule died on Dec. 21, 1999, at his home in Vacaville after a long illness.

Born on Nov. 21, 1944, in Ely, Minn., he moved to Solano County five years ago, having lived many years in the San Jose area. He enjoyed electronics and rock collecting.

Mr. Rule is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, George and Deb of Elk Grove; mother, Gene Y. of Vacaville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Em and Don Rojas of Stockton and Diane and Mark Moreci; and niece, Laura Benson of Oakland.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Creekside Church of Vacaville.

Ruby M. Davis

Private services will be held for Ruby M. Davis, 78, of Suisun. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Davis died on Dec. 17, 1999, at Mount Diablo Medical Center in Concord after a short illness.

Born on Jan. 24, 1921, in Corbin, Ky., she lived in Suisun for the past 13 years. She worked as a chef at Harrah's Tahoe for 20 years before retiring in 1979. She was an active member of the Suisun Senior Center and was among the first women to work for an aircraft assembly plant during World War II.

Mrs. Davis is survived by her daughters, Linda K. of St. Louis, Wendy S. Fajayan of Seattle and Carol A. of Kansas City; sons, David J. of Los Angeles, and George W. of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; and brother, E. Jerry Morgan of Shirley, Ark.

Kenneth A. George

Memorial services for Kenneth A. George, 67, of Lemoyne, Pa., will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Musselman Funeral Home Inc. in Lemoyne, Pa. Burial will be at Letort Cemetery.

Mr. George died on Dec. 23, 1999, at his home in Lemoyne, Pa.

He was employed by the Department of Revenue of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and retired after teaching at Bransford Elementary School in Fairfield. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a graduate of Oklahoma City University.

Mr. George is survived by his wife, Phyllis Lebo of Lemoyne, Pa.; daughters, Lynda Teeter, Roxanna and Ramona, all of Oklahoma City; son, Kendal A. of Oklahoma City; stepdaughter, Tammy Lynn Hoye of Vallejo; stepson, Philip G. Bensing of Vacaville; sisters, Carolyn Vial of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Katie Birkey of Manson, Iowa, and Marilyn Daton of Pocahontas, Iowa; and brothers, Duane of Rapid City, S.D., and Gordon of Iowa. He also had four grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren.

Rosibel Bonilla

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Rosibel Bonilla, 85, of Vacaville at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church. Inurnment will be private. Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today at Vaca Hills Chapel followed by a rosary at 7 p.m.

Born Sept. 9, 1914, in Nicaragua, Mrs. Bonilla died Dec. 26, 1999, at her home in Vacaville after a long illness.

She was a self-employed seamstress for 30 years and made clothing for Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. She loved life and her family and enjoyed sewing and embroidery.

Mrs. Bonilla is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Oscar and Celia Bonilla of San Jose and Robert and Alicia Bonilla of Los Angeles; daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Hector Soto of Vacaville; sisters, Emma Mestaryer of Walnut Creek and Lila Ramirez of San Francisco; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Juan Bautista Bonilla in 1982.

Joe M. Cook

A graveside service for Joe M. Cook, 68, of Arbuckle, will be held at noon Wednesday at Shiloh Cemetery in Birds Landing. Retired pastor W.A. Burkey of First Baptist Church will officiate.

Born Dec. 1, 1931, in Plainview, Texas, Mr. Cook died Dec. 25, 1999, at NorthBay Medical Center.

Mr. Cook was the former owner of Joe's Texaco, J & L Refrigeration and Joe's Saw and Lawnmower. He lived in Fairfield for 61 years before moving to Arbuckle two weeks ago.

Mr. Cook is survived by his wife, Oma Cook of Arbuckle.

Manuel Cuellar Sr.

A funeral for Manuel Cuellar Sr., 96, of Winters will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at McCune Garden Chapel. The Rev. Bendict DeLeon of St. Mary's Catholic Church will preside.

Born Feb. 16, 1903, in Grenada, Spain, Mr. Cueller died Dec. 26, 1999, in Davis. He lived in Winters for the past 30 years and was a prior resident of Vacaville.

Mr. Cueller was a foreman at the DiGiorigo Fruit Co. for 27 years.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joanne "Jennie" Altieri of Winters; sons and daughters-in-law, Manuel and Patricia of Auburn, Joseph and Josephine of Vacaville and son, Paul of Sacramento; sisters, Antoinette Spaner of Indiana and Lucille Maglio of California; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Beverly June Fowler

A memorial service for Beverly June Fowler, 71, of Vacaville will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Vaca Valley Christian Church. Interment will be private.

Born June 29, 1928, in Oakland, Mrs. Fowler died Dec. 22, 1999, at Mount Diablo Hospital in Concord after a short illness.

Mrs. Fowler is survived by her daughter, Sharyn Bankston; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Hank Junier; grandson, Timmy Darcy; great-grandson, Andrew Darcey; and niece and nephew, Suzette and Phil Woodworth, all of Vacaville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to University of California, Davis, Veternary Hospital in Davis.

Jane Elinor Haire

No local services will be held for Jane Elinor Haire, 78, of Fairfield. Interment will be in Minnesota at a later date.

Born June 6, 1921, in Minnesota, Miss Haire died Dec. 23, 1999, following a short illness.

Miss Haire worked as a secretary for Kaiser Engineers International Construction for 40 years.

She is survived by her sisters, Marion Haire of Fairfield, Rebecca Knosalla of Fargo, N.D., and Margaret Gust of Castro Valley; and brothers, Jerome Haire of Kent, Minn., Richard Haire of Breckenridge, Minn., Roger Haire of St. Cloud, Minn. and John Haire of Kent, Minn.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Robert J. McClain

A funeral for Robert J. McClain, 70, of Vacaville will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oakmont Mortuary in Lafayette. Burial will be in Oakmont Memorial Park.

Born Feb. 10, 1929, in Bard, Ark., Mr. McClain died Dec. 23, 1999.

A resident of Vacaville for the last 10 years, Mr. McClain previously lived in Valley Springs. He served in the Navy in 1946. He owned McClain's Trucking for 30 years. He enjoyed gardening, carpentry and fishing.

Mr. McClain is survived by his daughters, Pamela McClain Beechill of Lodi, Linda Parker of Martinez, Connie McCabe of Vallejo, Karen Klock of Plano, Tex., and Barbara Gillespie of Valley Springs; sister, Mary E. Hedge of St. Louis, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. McClain was preceded in death in 1980 by his wife, Mary Lou.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Oakmont Mortuary.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, Contra Costa Chapter, P.O. Box 6181, Concord, 94524; or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Lt. Col. Lester William Porter

A funeral for Lt. Col. Lester William Porter, 84, of Vacaville will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Chapel 1 at Travis Air Force Base. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. Chaplain Jim Glass will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Nadeau Family Funeral Home.

Born Nov. 11, 1915, in Huntley, Neb., Mr. Porter died Dec. 26, 1999, at Vencor Hospital in Folsom after a long illness.

He was an assistant field director with the American National Red Cross for 13 years after his retirement from the U.S. Air Force in 1965.

Mr. Porter is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ottis Ellie "Boots" Porter of Vacaville; son and daughter-in-law, L. William III and Marlene of Havannah, Fla.; daughters, Ellen Parnell Porter-Cheechov of Vavaville and Colleen Dee of Dixon; brother, Everett David of Holdredge, Neb.; cousins, Phyllis and Vincent Colgan and Lucille and Wayne Erickson, all of Holdredge; two grandsons and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American National Red Cross, Salvation Army, the American Legion or the United Methodist Home in Holdredge.
