Elaine H. Grasseschi

A memorial service for Elaine H. Grasseschi, 84, of Fairfield will 2 p.m. today at Grace Episcopal Church. The Rev. John Duncan will officiate. Private viewing services are entrusted to Solano Valley Mortuary.

Mrs. Grasseschi died on March 20, 2000, at Sunbridge LaMariposa Convalescent after a long illness.

Born on Nov. 4, 1915, in Great Falls, Mont., she lived in Fairfield for the past five years. She worked as a bank teller for Union Bank in Helena, Mont., for five years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

Mrs. Grasseschi is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Connie LaRue and Gene Schwarderer of Montana, Pat and Tom Silas, and Sherrie and Vincent Langdon of Fairfield. She also had 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Louis P. Maslov

A memorial service for Louis P. Maslov, 81, of Fairfield will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. Inurnment will be private.

Mr. Maslov died March 19, 2000, in Fairfield after a long illness.

Born Feb. 7, 1919, in Rock Springs, Wyo., he lived in Fairfield for 23 years. A World War II veteran who served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, he served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945, attaining the rank of sergeant. He was a parks and recreation administrative aide for the city of Richmond, retiring after 30 years of service.

He was a former member of Native Sons of the Golden West, BPOE 1251 Richmond and Moose Lodge 550, also of Richmond. He loved to fish, golf, garden and enjoyed carpentry and electronics.

Mr. Maslov is survived by his wife of 59 years, Edith "Edie" Y. of Fairfield; daughters and sons-in-law, Glenna Marie and Dennis Craig of Fairfield and Marilyn Louise and Michael Melancon of Walnut Creek; sisters, Olga Mackinnon of El Cerrito, Josephine Bastin of El Sobrante and Jenny Lindstedt of Nevada City; and grandchildren, Nina and Tony Craig of Fairfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to Kaiser Foundation Hospital, Hospice Home Care, 975 Sereno Drive, Vallejo, 94589, or Alzheimers' Greater San Francisco Bay Area, 330 Distel Circle, Suite A, Los Altos, 94022.

Anna Fae Casten

A funeral for Anna Fae Casten, 93, of Fairfield will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Skyview Funeral Chapel in Vallejo. The Rev. Keith DeVries will officiate. Burial will be at Skyview Memorial Lawn.

Mrs. Casten died on March 22, 2000, at Laurel Creek Health Center in Fairfield.

Born on Oct. 31, 1906, in Hattiesburg, Pa., she lived in Fairfield for 30 years. She worked as a stock container supervisor at Mare Island Naval Shipyard for 15 years. She was a member of Community Presbyterian Church in Vallejo, Women's Republican, Eastern Star, NEFRU Ari Temple No. 17, and Daughters of the Nile, Vallejo chapter.

Mrs. Casten is survived by her daughter, Alice R. Mitchell of West Point, Miss.; son, Bruce of Green Valley; and grandchildren, Ron Mitchell of Texas, Doug Mitchell of Mississippi, Carol Wood and Kathi Gosselin, both of Colorado, and Cliff of Fairfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emerol O.; twin sister, Mariqutt Wickins; sister, Ruth Ernest; brother, Frank Wilman; and granddaughter, Donna Mitchell.

Donald Leander Cook

No formal services will be held for Donald Leander Cook, 98, of Fairfield. Inurnment will be private at Fairfax Cemetery in Oklahoma.

Mr. Cook died on March 22, 2000, in Vallejo after a long illness.

Born on Nov. 22, 1901, in Grayhorse Indian Territory, Okla., he lived in Solano County for the past 55 years. He was the youngest son of early Oklahoma pioneers who ran in the Cherokee Land Run. He worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local Union No. 3.

Mr. Cook is survived by his daughter, Cherry Burton Cook of Keo, Ark. He was preceded in death by all six of his wives.

Wilma Fein

A funeral for Wilma Fein, 84, of Fairfield will be 1 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfield. Pastor Martin Bergstrom will officiate. Burial will be at Suisun Fairfield Cemetery.

Mrs. Fein died on March 22, 2000, at Sunbridge Care Center after a long illness.

Born on Jan. 12, 1916, in Cascade, Wash., she lived in Fairfield for 42 years. She was a nurse for 15 years, working at the old Solano County Hospital, Intercommunity Hospital and David Grant Medical Center. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.

Mrs. Fein is survived by her daughters, Betty Monson of Greeley, Colo., and Helene Clark of Fairfield; sons, Edward III and Paul, both of Fairfield, and Lowell of Round Rock, Texas; and sisters, Elaine Rails of Beaumont, Texas, Norma Balzon of Plymouth, Wisc., and Arlene Janke of Cedarberg, Wisc. She also had 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, in 1993.

Arrangements are being handled by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Joyce M. Jacobs

Private services will be held for Joyce M. Jacobs, 71, of Vallejo. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Jacobs died on March 18, 2000, at her home in Vallejo after a long illness.

Born on Dec. 3, 1928, in Atchison, Kan., she lived in Vallejo for 29 years. She worked as a bookkeeper for East Bay Meat Packers for eight years.

Mrs. Jacobs is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and William Andrew of Vacaville; daughter-in-law and her husband, Mary Jo and Curtis Brandon of Vallejo; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rindy and Robert Cross and Gail and Jim Arvanitas of Illinois; brother and sister-in-law, Chip and Loretta Meyers of Florida; and grandchildren, Alexandra Brandon and Rebecca, both of Vallejo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack in 1999; and son, William in 1988.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Leukemia Society of America Inc., Northern California Chapter, 832 Folsom St., San Francisco, 94107.

Arrangements are being handled by Skyview Memorial Lawn.

Shawn William Spontini II

A memorial service for Shawn William Spontini II, 17, will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Vaca Valley Christian Life Center.

Pastor Bob Brigham of Vaca Valley Christian Life Center will preside. Inurnment will be private.

Mr. Spontini died March 3, 2000.

Born May 30, 1982, at Mount Zion Hospital, San Francisco, he lived in Vacaville his entire life.

Shawn's love in life was making people happy and helping to solve their problems. He also loved music; he played the drums and was a very good singer. He enjoyed playing baseball when he was younger and enjoyed drama and skateboarding. He was very proud of his car, a Camaro, which was a gift from his grandmother when he was 16.

Shawn is survived by his father, Shawn W. Sr. of Vacaville; mother, Deborah Erickson of Minnesota; sister, Amanda Erickson of Minnesota; brother, Anthony Erickson of Minnesota; maternal grandmother, Rose Hall of Chico; grandfather, Joseph of Grass Valley; great-grandmother, Alice Griffin; uncles, Shane and Bill Griffin, and aunt and uncle, Tari and Douglas Essex, all of Vacaville; uncle, Patrick Griffin of Marin County; godparents, Rick and Debbie Isgrigg of Vacaville; cousins, Jason McMickle, Carissa and Donovan, all of Vacaville, and Holly and Heather Griffin of Petaluma; fiancee, Jamie Hurst of Vacaville; and best friends, Steve Mosher, Jessica Pool and Lisa Steltz, all of Vacaville. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Patricia B. Kalil of Vacaville.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at McCune Garden Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions to help defray the costs of medical bills be made to Shawn W. Spontini Sr., P.O. Box 1088, Vacaville, 95696.

Mabel Bertha Stringham

A funeral for Mabel Bertha Stringham, 78, of Vacaville will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Nadeau Family Funeral Home with family members officiating. Burial with full military honors will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, where she will be placed alongside her husband, Harold. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Stringham died on March 23, 2000, in Rose Garden Guest Home in Napa after a long illness.

Born on Aug. 12, 1921, in Davenport, Iowa, she lived in Vacaville for the past 35 years. She was a teacher in the Travis Unified School District for 23 years. She was a member of the Women's Marine Association and the American Association of University Women.

Mrs. Stringham is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Michael Averbach of Charlotte, N.C.; granddaughter and her husband, Kristy and John Toler of Seattle; and grandson, Bryan Averbach of Seattle.

William P. Sullivan Jr.

A Catholic Prayer Service for William P. Sullivan Jr., 44, of Granite Bay will begin at 3:30 p.m. today at Nadeau Family Funeral Home. The Rev. William Feeser and Mike Sullivan will officiate. Interment will be private.

A reception immediately following the service will be held at the Opera House in downtown Vacaville at the corner of Main and Davis streets.

Mr. Sullivan died suddenly on March 21, 2000, in Granite Bay.

Born on Nov. 15, 1955, in Spokane, Wash., he resided in Vacaville for 30 years before moving to Granite Bay. At the time of his death, he was the owner and operator of Rocklin Coffee World. He was a member of the Rocklin Kiwanis Club; University of California, Davis, Alumni Association; Thoroughbred Owners of California; Northern California Contractors Association; Chardonnay Golf Club; and Arbuckle Golf Club.

Mr. Sullivan is survived by his wife, Diane of Granite Bay; daughters, Andrea and Adrienne of Granite Bay; mother and stepfather, Roma and Dick Robison of Vacaville; stepmother, Dore of Fairfield; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike and Kelle of Vacaville and Tim and Monica of Sierra Madre; sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Tim Dineen of Vacaville; and sister, Patti of Bellmawr, N.J. He also had 33 nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Vacaville Quarterback Club, care of Vacaville High School, 100 W. Monte Vista Ave., Vacaville, 95688; or the American Cancer Society, care of Ruth Bradanini, 290 Fruitvale Ave., Vacaville, 95688.

Florence J. David

A funeral for Florence J. David, 82, of Napa and Fairfield will be scheduled at a later date. Burial will be private.

Mrs. David died on March 21, 2000, at Sunbridge Care Center.

Born on July 9, 1917, in Minnesota, she lived in Napa and Fairfield for 19 years. She worked in nursing retail, was self-employed and was a manager for Motel 6. She was a member of the Democratic Caucus, GFWC and Elks Lodge.

Mrs. David is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Gordon Sowers of Oregon; daughter, Arlyce Smith of Fairfield; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Opal of Washington; son, Howard L. Jr. of Washington; sisters, Orpha Waldemar of Arizona and Doreen Lyman of Washington; and sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Jack Sutton of Georgia. She also had 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard L. of Napa; sister, Audrey Ebgen; and brothers, Alton Warnes and Orvid Olson.

Arrangements are being handled by Solano Valley Mortuary.

Betty McAtee

Graveside services for Betty McAtee, 74, of Fairfield will be private. Burial will be at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Ms. McAtee died on March 20, 2000, at David Grant Medical Center on Travis Air Force Base.

Born on Sept. 6, 1925, in Ceres, she lived in Fairfield for more than 25 years. She was a retired Air Force surgical nurse. She was an Air Force major and was active in the Women's Republican Group. She was a past Green Valley Country Club champion.

Ms. McAtee is survived by her nephew, Mike of Sacramento; sister, Mary Margaret Beaudoin of Modesto; and grandnieces, Mary Kay Lamoureaux of Milton, Fla., and Shelly Nelsen of San Francisco.

Arrangements are being handled by Solano Valley Mortuary.

Herbert Fulton McMurphy

A funeral for Herbert Fulton McMurphy, 92, of Vacaville will be 2 p.m. Monday at Skyview Funeral Chapel in Vallejo. Inurnment will be at Skyview Memorial Lawn in Vallejo. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel.

Mr. McMurphy died on March 23, 2000, at VacaValley Hospital.

Born on Oct. 5, 1907, in Fulton, he lived in Vacaville for three years after having lived in Lodi for 10 years and in Vallejo for 54. He was a self-employed harbor owner with Bay Terrace Yacht for 17 years before retiring in 1955. He was a past commodore for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla No. 51. He was the founder of the North Bay Trail Riders and a member of the Iron Horsemen and the Rod & Gun Club.

Mr. McMurphy is survived by his daughters, Betty L. Pleger of Vacaville and Alice C. Johnson of California; and sons and daughters-in-law, Donald D. and Loreen of Washington, Calvin C. and Sandra of Vallejo and Michael and Brenda Hanes of Berryessa. He also had 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Kraiss Morris

A Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy Kraiss Morris, 78, of Fairfield will be 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Fairfield.

The Rev. Sebastian Meyer will officiate. Interment will be private. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, with a vigil service at 4 p.m.

Mrs. Morris died on March 23, 2000, in Fairfield.

Born on May 27, 1921, in Chicago, she lived in Fairfield for 13 years. She lived in Chicago most of her life, with a brief stay in Glendale from 1951 to 1957.

She worked as a teacher and librarian for the Evergreen Park School District in Illinois for nearly 30 years. She was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed spending time with her loving family. She will be sorely missed by all who have had the privilege to know her.

Mrs. Morris is survived by her husband, James of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Craig Cannaday of Fairfield; sons and daughters-in-law, James P. and Karen Kraiss of Wheaton, Ill., and Robert W. and Carol Kraiss of Palo Alto; sisters, Marge Pitt and Betty Marthaler, both of Orland Park, Ill.; and brother, William Pitt of Claridon Hills, Ill. She also had eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy P. Kraiss, in 1988.

Fred C. Peasley

Fred C. Peasley, 80, of Fairfield died on Feb. 24, 2000, at a local hospital after a long illness. Services were held in late February.

Born on Nov. 24, 1919, in Maine, he lived in Fairfield for 34 years. He was a World War II and Korean War veteran who retired from the Department of Defense.

Mr. Peasley is survived by his wife, Yongsoon of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, Hisook and John Brooks of Vacaville; son and daughter-in-law, Harry and Susy of Vacaville; and grandchildren, Michele Traywick, Kelly Brooks and Heather and Sam, all of Vacaville.

Arrangements were handled by Solano Valley Mortuary.
