Emma Dockter

Emma G. (Gienger) Dockter, 99, of Nevada City died Dec. 21 at her home.

Born in Leola, South Dakota on Nov. 28, 1903, she had lived in Nevada City for 17 years and previously lived in Escalon since 1931.

She was a homemaker. She attended Calvary Bible Church in Grass Valley. She enjoyed fishing and traveling.

Survivors include her children, Harold Dockter of Escalon, Pauline Catron of Nevada City and Alvin Dockter of Fremont; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Chris Dockter, in 1983.

Services were Saturday, Dec. 28 at Calvary Bible Church in Grass Valley. Interment with a graveside service was at Farmington Cemetery.

Remembrances may be made to Hospice of the Foothills, 12399 Nevada City Highway, Grass Valley, CA 95945 or St. John's Lutheran Church, 120 West St., Oakdale, CA 95361.

Max Palmer

Max Palmer, 75, of Escalon died Friday, June 6, 2003 in Modesto.

Born in Norton, Kansas, he had lived in the Escalon area for many years. He was a veterinarian and was the self-employed owner of Escalon Veterinary Hospital. He was a member of the Stanislaus Veterinary Society, American Veterinary Medical Association and the California Veterinary Medicine Association. He was an avid outdoorsman.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Sally Anne Palmer; children, Kary Piper of Roseburg, Oregon, Janet Wickstrom of Modesto, Mary Johnson of Manteca and John Palmer of Escalon; and three grandchildren.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Services will be Wednesday, June 11, 10 a.m. with a Celebration of Life at Escalon Covenant Church.

Remembrances may be made to Community Hospice, 601 Suite C, McHenry Ave., Modesto, CA or Escalon Ambulance, P.O. Box 212, Escalon, CA 95320.

Luiz Barcelos

Luiz Rebelo Barcelos, 83, of Escalon died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003 at Oak Valley Hospital in Oakdale.

A native of Azores, Terceira, he lived in Escalon for 46 years. He was employed as a warehouseman for Hershey's Chocolate Factory in Oakdale for 18 years. He was also a veteran of the US Army, serving from 1941 to 1947. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, U.P.E.C. of Escalon, Luso American and Our Lady of Fatima of Escalon. He enjoyed doing carpenter work and swimming in the ocean.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Albertina G. Barcelos of Escalon; son, Melvin Barcelos of Oakdale; sister, Virginia Enos of Rio Dell; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be held on Friday, Oct. 3 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 2 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Deegan Funeral Chapel, Escalon. Rosary will be said on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. at St. Patricks Catholic Church. Interment at St. Johns Catholic Cemetery.

Edwin Avara

Edwin "Ed" Dale Avara, 64, of Oakdale died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003 in Oakdale.

A native of Colorado, he had lived in Oakdale for three years. He had also lived in Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties for many years. He was a metal worker for 23 years for Hogan Manufacturing in Escalon.

He is survived by his children, Edwin C. Avara of Oakdale and Denise Schulz of Escalon; sisters, Norma Taylor of Modesto and Evelyn Swartz of Sacramento; brothers, Don Avara of Rio Linda, Robert Avara of Rio Linda and Keith Avara of Stockton; six grandchildren and two-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life was held Monday, Dec. 8 at Oakdale Memorial Chapel.

Melva J. Blount

Private burial was held at Larned cemetery in Larned, Kan., for Melva Jean Blount, 70, of Ceres. She died Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

Allen Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Born Feb. 25, 1932, Mrs. Blount was a native of Kinsley, Kan., and lived in Ceres for many years. She resided in Stanislaus County for 28 years. Mrs. Blount was a licensed vocational nurse.

She leaves behind her daughter, Cynthia Blount of Ceres; two brothers, Ralph Blount of Westminister, Colo., and Gerald Blount of Doraville, Ga.; and three sisters, Margaret Engler and Dorothy Fields, both of Garden City, Kan., and Lois Conklin of Goldsby, Okla.; and her caregiver, Kim Nevel of Ceres. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sisters.

Mamie L. Baughman

A funeral was held Thursday morning at Keyes Assembly of God Tabernacle for Mamie L. Bledsoe Baughman, 90, of Keyes. She died of natural causes Monday, Aug. 5, 2002 at Evergreen Nursing & Rehabilitation Hospital in Modesto.

Burial was at Ceres Memorial Park under the direction of the Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs.

Born July 29, 1912, Mrs. Baughman was a native of Bokoshe, Okla., and lived in Keyes for 54 years. She was a homemaker and member of Keyes Assembly of God Tabernacle.

She leaves behind three children, J.R. Baughman of LaPine, Ore., Shirley Doster of Modesto and Jimmie Baughman of Sacramento; her brother, Len Bledsoe of Vacaville; and six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Odell Baughman.

Yvonne Clarke

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Valley Christian Center for Yvonne Phillips Clarke, 64, of Ceres. She died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park under the direction of Eaton Family Funeral & Cremation Service.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Valley Christian Center.

Born Sept. 28, 1938, Mrs. Clarke was a native of Pilot Rock, Ark., and lived in Ceres for 11 years. She was an apartment manager 20 years. Mrs. Clarke was a member of Valley Christian Center.

She leaves behind her daughter, Debra Tomajic of Sacramento; two stepchildren, Kelley Clarke of Phoenix and Robin Clarke of Stockton; her brother, Preston Taylor of Alamo; and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Clarke.

Remembrances may be sent to Valley Christian Center, Memorial Fund, 2745 Second St., Ceres, CA 95307.

Billy N. Bentley

A graveside service was held Friday morning at Ceres Memorial Park for Billy Neal Bentley, 70, of Turlock. He died of natural causes Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002 at San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp.

Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Born April 3, 1932, Mr. Bentley was a native of Artesia, N.M., and lived in Ceres and Turlock since 1953. He was a truck driver for 48 years, working mostly for Cherokee Freight Lines in Stockton. Mr. Bentley also worked for Royal Trucking.

He leaves behind his wife, Joan Bentley; his daughter, Jo Neal Horner of Sun City, Ariz.; his brother, Carl Bentley of Ceres; his sister, Diana Pearson of Oakdale; and two grandchildren.

Elizabeth L. Arriola

A graveside service was held Friday at Ceres Memorial Park for Elizabeth Louise Cavanor Arriola, 76, of Modesto. She died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003 at Hale Aloha Convalescent Hospital in Ceres.

Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Born Sept. 22, 1926, Mrs. Arriola was a native of Conewango, Pa., and lived in Modesto since 1968. She was a homemaker and member of First United Presbyterian Church of San Francisco. Mrs. Arriola enjoyed music and movies.

She leaves behind two sons, Mark Arriola and Robert Arriola, both of Modesto; and two grandchildren.

Charles J. Carnabuci

Inurnment will be at Blue Hills cemetery in Braintree, Mass., for Charles J. Carnabuci, 74, of Keyes. He died Friday, May 30, 2003 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

Eaton Family Funeral & Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.

Born May 2, 1929, Mr. Carnabuci was a native of Somerville, Mass., and lived in Hughson, Modesto and Keyes for 10 years. He was the owner of a limousine service for 12 years. Mr. Carnabuci served in the Army during the Korean War.

He leaves behind his caregiver and cousin Catherine Kohler of Massachusetts.

Antonio R. Borja

A Mass was held Friday at St. Jude's Catholic Church for Antonio R. Borja, 56, of Ceres. He died Monday, July 28, 2003 at Doctors Medical Center.

Burial was at Pioneer cemetery under the direction of Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel.

Born Oct. 9, 1946, Mr. Borja was a native of Mexico and had lived in Ceres since 2000. He was disabled.

Mr. Borja leaves behind his mother, Teresa Romero Borja of San Jose; brothers, Rigo Borja of Modesto and Hugo Borja of San Jose; and sisters, Obdulia Gutierrez and Gloria Santos, both of Ceres, Teresa Borja and Consuelo Martinez, both of San Jose, and Alicia Nunez of Santa Ana.

Adalyne Allen

A memorial service was spending at Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church for Adalyne Jones Allen, 81, of Hughson. She died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003 at Samaritan Village in Hughson.

Eaton Family Funeral & Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements.

Born Nov. 26, 1922, Mrs. Allen was a native of Cordele, Ga., and lived in Hughson for one month. She was a registered nurse for 40 years. Mrs. Allen was a member of Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederate, Order of the Eastern Star and the Fair Oaks Women's Club. She enjoyed playing bridge and sewing.

She leaves behind three children, Victoria A. Auguston of Orangevale, Gayle P. Goss of Modesto and Norris M. Allen Jr. of Citrus Heights; and four grandchildren.

Remembrances may be sent to the Visiting Nurses Association of the Central Valley, 1905 Coffee Road, Modesto, CA 95355; or Community Hospice, 601 McHenry Ave., Suite C, Modesto, CA 95350.
