Helen Kingsley

Antique Dealer, 92

Helen Kingsley, the former owner of Helen's Accent Corner in Yucca Valley, died at home Aug. 1, 2004. She was 92 years old. She had been a 65-year resident of California, and a 27-year resident of Oregon.

Mrs. Kingsley was born March 14, 1912, to Christian Hartman and Christina Scherruble Hartman. She was an antique dealer, and owned Helen's Accent Corner in Yucca Valley for 20 years.

Mrs. Kingsley had been active in the Yucca Valley Historical Society, Hi-Desert Memorial Hospital Guild, Hi-Desert Nature Museum, senior center of Yucca Valley, Old Town Merchants Association and Garden Club.

She is survived by her daughters Helen Newton of Redwood City, Jeanette Webster of Navato and Judy Markert of Yucca Valley, granddaughter April Sweetman of Yucca Valley, 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Her daughter Virginia Pieracci preceded her in death.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. today at Wiefels and Son Chapel in Yucca Valley with Pastor Bob Jarrard of Joshua Springs officiating. Interment will be at Mountain Valley Memorial Park. Graveside services will be private.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Morongo Basin Historical Society, P.O. Box 2046, Yucca Valley, CA 92286.

Wiefels and Son Funeral Directors of Yucca Valley are in charge of arrangements.

Gaylord LaVerne Proper

Navy Veteran, 80

Gaylord LaVerne Proper, a 34-year resident of Yucca Valley, died July 27, 2004, in his home. He was 80 years old.

Mr. Proper was born Aug. 3, 1923, to Leta and Clarence Proper in Janesville, Wisc.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served in World War II, the Korean War and on the hospital ship U.S.S. Repose during the Vietnam War. His tours of duty included Brazil, Great Lakes, Bethalto, Guam, Hawaiian Islands, two tours in Japan, San Diego and Twentynine Palms, where he retired as Chief Warrant Officer W4 in 1973.

After retiring from the Navy, he worked an additional 25 years with H&R Block doing tax accounting.

Mr. Proper is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Catherine and Rinkan Patel and grandson Vijay Patel of Flagstaff, Ariz., sisters Betty Bohenek and Nancy Proper of Janesville, Wisc., care-provider Linda Aguilar and his cat Mr. Friendly.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Proper, in 2003.

A viewing will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 8 at Arlington Mortuary in Riverside, with services following at 2 p.m.

Mr. Proper will be cremated and his ashes will be scattered at sea, where he will join his wife.

Susan Elaine Carney

Nurse, 62

Susan Elaine Carney, who lived in Yucca Valley 25 years, died at 6:15 a.m. Nov. 26, 2004, at the Loma Linda hospital due to kidney and liver rejection. She was 62 years old.

Born in Lowell, Mass., Aug. 12, 1942, she was the daughter of Laurence K. Carney and Veronica F. Jordan.

Miss Carney was a nurse at Desert Hospital, Tustin Community and Huntington Inter-community hospitals before she retired.

She attended St. Mary of the Valley and St. Christopher of the Desert churches.

She was preceded in death by her brother Albert Carney in 1995, father Laurence Carney in 1974 and nephew Joey Carney in 1995.

She is survived by sister Frances I. Bachmann of Yucca Valley; sister and brother-in-law Vera and Wayne Zampardi of Corona; sister-in-law Judy Carney of Vista; nephew Patrick Carney of Vista; niece and nephew-in-law Anne and Charles Byrym of Vista; niece Cari Carney of Vista; niece Jennifer Callahan and her husband; and six grandnieces and grandnephews.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 9 in Yucca Valley, with Father Ignatius of St. Mary's officiating.

Victor Finn Sr.

Chef, 51

Victor Finn Sr. died Nov. 26, 2004, in Yucca Valley, where he had lived for four years. He was 51 years old.

A native of  Washington, Mr. Finn was born July 23, 1953, to Walter Donald Finn and Phyllis Close-Matthies.

He lived in California for 30 years.

Mr. Finn was a chef for 20 years before he retired.

A veteran, he belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Joshua Tree.

His father, Walter Donald Finn, and grandson Gauge Finn preceded him in death.

He is survived by daughter Maria Finn of Yucca Valley; son and daughter-in-law Victor Finn Jr. and Susan Finn of Joshua Tree; daughter and son-in-law Chrystal Finn and Joe Jordon of Yucca Valley; brother and sister-in-law Micky and Kay Finn and their three children of Santee; brother and sister-in-law Bobby and Sylvia Finn and their two children of Glendora; sister and brother-in-law Candy and Dave Inman and their two children of Everett, Wash.; great-aunt Margaret Close of Yucca Valley; one niece and six nephews.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 12 at the clubhouse at 6426 Valley View Street in Joshua Tree. Brenda Reyes of Yucca Valley will officiate.

Billy Richard Wimberly

Warehouse Man, 77

Billy Richard Wimberly, who served as a medic in the United States Army during the Korean War, died Nov. 24, 2004, in Redlands. He was 77 years old.

Mr. Wimberly was born in  Oklahoma May 18, 1927, to Carl Major Wimberly and Mildred I. Uldine Goode.

A 60-year resident of California and 28-year resident of the Morongo Basin, he was a warehouse man for General Telephone for 20 years before he retired.

He was married to Marjorie Ann Wimberly for 46 years.

A Yucca Valley resident, his wife survives him, as do his mother, Mildred I. Uldine Scheeler of Garden Grove; sister Jacquelyn Carline Wimberly of Garden Grove; daughter Deborah Mohee Hagedorn of Yucca Valley; son Richard Alan Wimberly of Ione; grandsons Timothy Allen Hagedorn of Joshua Tree and Kevin Michael Hagedorn of Yucca Valley; granddaughter Sarah Ann Hagedorn of Yucca Valley; and great-granddaughter Hailey Tegan Hagedorn of Joshua Tree.

Inurnment will be at the Riverside National Cemetery.

Donald Hyder

Barber, 77

Donald Hyder, a 13-year resident of Yucca Valley, died Nov. 21, 2004, in his home in Joshua Tree. He was 77 years old.

A Tennessee native, Mr. Hyder was born July 30, 1927, to Dewey L. Hyder and Lilly F. Hyder.

He lived in California for 59 years.

Mr. Hyder served as a ship's serviceman in the United States Navy, where he obtained his barber's license.

After retiring from the service as a senior chief, Mr. Hyder was a barber for 30 years, working at Pallie and Don's Barber and Beauty Shop.

He was married to Pallie Ann Hyder for 21 years before she preceded him in death.

Mr. Hyder is survived by son and daughter-in-law Donald Jr. and Bonnie Hyder of Santee, daughter Linda Clark of Alpine, daughter Donna Lopez of El Cajon, daughter and son-in-law Sherry and Randy Swisher of Auburn, stepdaughter and son-in-law Sherry and Daniel D'Amgrosia of Santee, stepson Bobby Bean of Sandy, Utah, stepsons and daughters-in-law Eddie and Malou Bean of Murrieta, Richard and Deon Bean of East Lake Chula Vista and Jamie and Melinda Bean of Granbury,  Texas, 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be private; Mr. Hyder was interred at 1 p.m. Dec. 6 at Fort Rosecrans.

Andrew Joseph Densmore

Dispatcher, 90

Andrew Joseph Densmore died of natural causes at age 90 in his Yucca Valley home Nov. 29, 2004.

Born May 20, 1914, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of Stanislau Dembowski and Hatti Budd. He lived in the Morongo Basin for 36 years.

He was married to Angeline J. Densmore for 50 years.

She preceded him in death in 1998.

Mr. Densmore was a dispatcher at Texaco for 23 years before he retired.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 11 at Evangelical Free Church in Yucca Valley. Pastor Bill Wilcox of Evangelical Free Church will officiate.

John Paul Hendrickson

Business Owner, Salesman, 55

An accidental fire claimed the life of John Paul Hendrickson, who died Dec. 5, 2004, in his Yucca Valley home. He was 55 years old.

Mr. Hendrickson was born in Ohio Oct. 14, 1949, to L.P. and Betty Hendrickson.

He lived in California for 32 years, five of them in Yucca Valley.

He was married to Yvonne Hendrickson for 17 years.

Mr. Hendrickson was a business owner and salesman for 30 years, working at Printmasters before he retired.

He is survived by his wife; sons Chad Hendrickson of Yucca Valley, Scott Hendrickson of Colorado and Brad Hendrickson of  Washington; sister Diane Hendrickson of Bakersfield; and brother James Hendrickson of Ohio.

His parents preceded him in death.

No service will be held.
