Rita Chavez

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel for Rita Morales Chavez, 78, of Modesto. She died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004 at Garden City Care Center.

Burial will be at Panteon Americano cemetery in Calzada, Mexico.

Born April 26, 1926, Mrs. Chavez was a native of Alvarado, Veracruz, Mexico, and had lived in Modesto since 1971. She was a homemaker and a charter member of La Comunidad Guadalupena. Mrs. Chavez also was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church in Ceres, and Teamsters Union Local 748.

She leaves behind four children, Guadalupe Baez de Escobar, Violeta Baez deVergara and Arturo Baez, all of Mexico City, and Javier Baez of Modesto; and 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Chavez; and daughter, Yolanda Baez.

Pauline L. Brey

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the Assembly of God Church for Pauline L. Manley Cox Brey, 89, of Hughson. She died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004 at her home.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the church.

Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park. Eaton Family Funeral and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.

Born April 12, 1915, Mrs. Brey was a native of Rayford, Okla., and lived in Hughson for 54 years. She previously lived in Modesto for three years. She owned Cox's Market and worked as an inspector for the San Joaquin Turkey Growers Association. Mrs. Brey also worked as a guide at Yosemite National Park. She was a past president of Hughson Senior Citizens. Mrs. Brey enjoyed quilting, crocheting and gardening and belonged to the Assembly of God Church.

She leaves behind three children, Jimmy D. Cox and Marcus E. Cox, both of Ceres, and Ronda Darlene Summers of Hughson; and 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Larkin Cox and Lloyd Brey; and four brothers and two sisters.

Remembrances may be sent to the Hughson Senior Citizens Center, 2307 Fourth St., Hughson, CA 95326.

Angel M. Baxter

A memorial service was held Monday at Village Christian Fellowship in Modesto for Angel M. Baxter, infant, of Empire. He died Nov. 8, 2004 at birth at Oak Valley Hospital in Oakdale.

Eaton Family Funeral and Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his parents, Richard Baxter Jr. of Oakdale, and Sunshine Baxter of Empire; his sister, Mariah Baxter of Empire; his grandparents, Michelle and Richard Fuller of Empire, Brian Fuller of Illinois, Rona Baxter of Ceres, and Richard and Jan Baxter of Oakdale; and his great-grandparents, Betty Martin and Daniel Lopez, both of Ceres.

Patricia A. Chapman

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Allen Mortuary in Turlock for Patricia Annette Van Pelt Chapman, 60, of Ceres. She died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004 at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock.

Burial is pending at San Joaquin Valley National cemetery in Santa Nella.

Born July 4, 1944, Mrs. Chapman was a native of Queens, N.Y., and lived in Ceres for three years. She previously lived in Turlock for seven years. Mrs. Chapman was a waitress.

She leaves behind her son, David Van Pelt of Marysville; her brother, David Van Pelt of New York; and her sister, Barbara Rubis-Johnson of Ceres. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Chapman; and one sister.

Daniel Lane Burney

Plumber

Daniel Lane Burney, 45, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004 in Manteca. He was a general plumbing Superintendent with CJS Co. for 14 years. Daniel has enjoyed plumbing since the young age of eight years old, with his father.

Daniel was born Nov. 25, 1958 in Chula Vista, Cal. and raised in San Diego. Daniel moved to Northern Cal. in 1991. His creative talents ranged from building turtle ponds to restoring rundown, scrapped, rusty vehicles into showcase hot rods, to designing plumbing into artful masterpieces. One of his pleasures was helping everyone before himself.

Daniel Burney was a loving husband, father and son. Survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Ema L. Burney; children, Katrina, Kirsten, Andrew and Kaniela. Son of Biff and Maxine Burney; brother of sister, Cheryl and brothers, Jack and Biffy. Daniel will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Neptune Society of Northern Cal. Stockton Branch is in charge of arrangements. Services will be Friday, Nov. 12, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 715 E. North St. in Manteca.

Allan Featherston

Former Manteca Resident

Allan Featherston, 57, died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004 at his home in Newman. Mr. Featherston was a native of Merced and had lived in Newman for one year. He previously lived in Manteca for 10 years. After graduating from Chowchilla High School in 1965, he was employed with Occidental Petroleum as an engineer for 15 years. He then became the owner and operator of the White House Tavern and then the Circle Room Tavern both in Manteca.

Mr. Featherston is survived by his son, Corey Edwards of Kerman; sister, Sydnee Alyster of Hughson; parents, Jim and Rose Featherston of Newman.

Hillview Funeral Chapel in Newman is in charge of funeral arrangements. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, Dec. 17, 2004 at 1 p.m. at Hillview Funeral Chapel.

David Harry

David Eugene Harry, 43, of Riverbank died Saturday, Dec. 4 at his home.

A native of Chester, he lived in Riverbank for two years. He was a cook for many years. He attended both the Oakdale and Riverbank Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine J. Harry of Riverbank; children, Katelyn, Zachary Harry and Steven Harry, all of Riverbank; sisters, Debbie Eastman, Donna Golden and Darla Niccum, all of Oregon; brothers, Dennis Harry and Danny Harry, both of Oregon; mother and step-father, Caroline and Daryl Turner of Washington; father and step-mother, William and Myra Harry of Oklahoma.

Memorial service was held on Saturday, Dec. 11 at the Church of the Nazarene, Riverbank.

Remembrances may be made to the David Harry Memorial Fund c/o the Church of the Nazarene, 3404 Stanislaus Street, Riverbank, CA 95367 or to a Trust Fund for Katelyn, Zachary and Steven, c/o Farmers and Merchants Bank.

Kay Lenhart

Homemaker

Kay Lenhart, 59, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004 at Memorial Medical in Modesto. The former Kay Asbury was born March 17, 1945 in Virginia. She was a resident of Ripon for 35 years.

Mrs. Lenhart is survived by her husband of 31 years, Jack F. Lenhart; her mother, Violet McTavish of La Grange; children, Renett and David Mills of LA, Dorinda and Ken McIntyre of Patterson, Jennifer Dobbs of Nevada, Rudy and Sara Lenhart of French Camp, Lisa and Ed Yeager of Eureka, Terry and Tom Kirby of Georgia, Dawn Jones of Arizona, and Jack and Heather Lenhart of Manteca; siblings, Margie and Bob Salvatory of Penn., George Sylvester of La Grange, John and Pat Sylvester of Arkansas, Patricia and John Montoya of Colorado, Kenneth and Sharron Asbury of Georgia; 21 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Kay was a homemaker. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed fishing, crafts and spending time with her family.

Deegan Ripon Memorial is in charge of funeral arrangements. Funeral Service will be Friday, Dec. 17, 2004 at 3 p.m. at Grace Brethren Church in Ripon. Interment will be private.

Joseph Murray

Joseph Michael Murray, 89, of Livermore died Friday, December 10.

He was a native of Livermore. He attended Livermore High School and Portland University, where he earned a degree in Business Administration. He played professional football for the Milwaukee Chiefs and the San Diego Bombers. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Following the war he worked in sales for Tidewater Oil Company and California State Automobile Association. He also worked in construction. He was a member of St. Michael's Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, The Cattlemen's Association, The Farm Bureau and Teamsters. He enjoyed visiting with friends at coffee shops and having lunch at John's Burgers and Gianna's Restaurant. He also enjoyed farming and ranching.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Murray; son, Joe Jr., daughter-in-law, Cathy Murray; sisters, Rose Gregoratos and Helen Saia; grandsons, Troy and Lane Murray; and several nieces and nephews.

Vigil service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. at Callaghan Mortuary, Livermore. Funeral service Thursday, Dec. 16 at 11 a.m. at the Mortuary. Burial to follow at St. Michael's Cemetery.

Harry Valencia

Harry James Valencia, 49, of Galt died Thursday, Dec. 2 at his home.

A native of Modesto, he lived in Oakdale for 48 years prior to moving to Galt a year ago. He worked at ConAgra for six months.

He is survived by his children, Harry James Valencia, Jr. of Clear Lake and Marcus Valencia of Oakdale; sisters, Christine Dahm of Oakdale, Vera Northcutt of Oakdale, Ramona Lemos of Waterford; brother, Pete Valencia of Modesto; mother, Hazel Lopez of Oakdale; father, Delfin Lopez of Oakdale; and two grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery. Visitation was held on Tuesday, Dec. 7.

Miguel Ramirez

Miguel Ramirez, 29, of Oakdale died Wednesday, Dec. 1.

A native of Mexico, he lived in Oakdale for three years. He was a truck driver at Magnum Trucking.

He is survived by his parents, Marta Enriquez and Silvano Paredes, both of Oakdale; sister, Silvia Paredes of Oakdale and brother, Martin Paredes of Oakdale.

Rosary was said on Monday, Dec. 6 at St. Marys Catholic Church. Mass was said Tuesday, Dec. 7 followed by burial at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery. Visitation was held.

Mary Pirkle

Mary Lucille Pirkle, 92, of Oakdale died Sunday, Dec. 5 at Oak Valley Care Center.

A native of Oklahoma, she lived in Oakdale for 58 years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Oakdale Family Church of the Nazarene and was an expert seamstress and enjoyed knitting.

She is survived by her children, John Pirkle of Oakdale and Dr. William Pirkle of Illinois; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held on Friday, Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. at Oaklawn Memorial Park. No visitation.

Remembrances may be sent to Oakdale Family Church of the Nazarene, 1700 West F Street, Oakdale, CA 95361.
