Philip Richard White
August 6, 1927 - September 27, 2019
Born in Twin Falls, Idaho
Resided in Salinas, California
Philip Richard White passed away on Friday, September 27th with family by his side. He was 92 years old. He was born in Twin Falls, Idaho to Franklin and Florence (Zeigler) White.
He joined the US Army in 1942 and served for 6 years stationed mostly in Japan. He received The Good Conduct Medal, Korean Svc. Medal, and the UN Service Medal. After he was honorably discharged, he returned to work for the US Army as civil service. He worked in Japan for the next 26 years. While there, he met his wife Masuko. Together they had 5 children all born and raised in Japan. In 1972 he moved his family to Salinas. He worked at Fort Ord until his retirement in 1984 after 38 years as Directorate of Engineering and Housing for the US Army Corps of Engineers. After his retirement he worked part-time for A-1 Ambulance. He enjoyed photography and had his own darkroom for developing. He loved music and woodworking and playing golf. He loved spending time with his family most of all. He will be forever loved and missed.
He is survived by his children, Teresa White (Bellingham, WA.) David (Renee) White (Spreckels, Ca) Shirley Stewart (Van Nuys, Ca.) and Nickie (Robert) Mettalia (Soquel, Ca.) Son in law Mel Gomez (Nipomo, Ca.)
Grandchildren: Christina Spann, Jason Gomez, Candice Gomez, Brian (Natasha) Stewart, Justin (Alexandra) Stewart, Zachary White and Ian (Samantha) Anderson. One great grandson Colton Anderson.
He is predeceased by his wife Masuko, and his daughter Patricia Marie Gomez and his brother Roy White of Anchorage, Alaska.
Visitation will be 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. Friday, October 4, 2019 at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, Ca. 93901.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please make a charitable contribution to the SPCA or local animal shelter.

Billy Ray Waltrip
July 18, 1960 - September 24, 2019

Resided in Salinas, California
Billy Ray Waltrip, 59, was a lifelong resident of Salinas Calif. He worked on the Secondo Ranch, off River Road, for 43 years; many of those years as the farm manager. He was a lifetime member of the Salinas Ramblers Motorcycle Club. For many years he was the Trail Boss for the Quicksilver National Enduro and later for the Picacho Creek Harescrambles. He was an avid off-road enthusiast. He loved dirt bikes, his Razr and his Jeep. He participated in many enduro races over the years, as well as dual sport rides. He also participated in the Jeepers Jamboree, on the Rubicon trail, several times in recent years. He loved to travel to different places from the highest mountain tops to the lowest parts of the Mexican desert, on off road adventures. One of his all-time favorite places, though, was the “hot tub” in the Nevada desert; where he shared many rides and adventures with his closest friends.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents; Audrey Massolo (Borba) and Dominic Massolo. As well as his mother Audrie Waltrip (Massolo).
He is survived by his wife; Denise (Grogan), daughter Candice Stacy (Sean), granddaughters Kailey and Miranda, father, Leroy Waltrip, sister, Mindy Waltrip, nephews, Corey and Jacob Tidwell (Brittney & Andrea), great niece, Lainey and great nephews, Landon and Levi.
A Rosary in his honor will be said at Struve and Laporte Funeral Home, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA 93901 on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2019 at 7:00pm.
A Celebration of Life will follow on Sunday, October 6th, 2019 at the Salinas Posse Grounds, 395 Old Natividad Road, Salinas, CA 93902, at noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Central Coast, 2 Upper Ragsdale Drive (Suite D120), Monterey, CA 93940 or our local Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) chapter, 100 San Fernando Street (Suite 365), San Jose, CA 95113.

Marie Therese Barrett
September 10, 1926 - September 28, 2019

Resided in Morgan Hill, California
Marie Therese (Terry) Barrett, 93, of Morgan Hill, CA, passed away quietly on September 28, 2019. Terry was surrounded by her loving husband of 68 years, Philip and their six children.
Terry was born in New Rochelle, NY to Earl and Mary Marguerite (Peg) Temple, one of six children. Terry first met her husband in high school where they began dating after senior year. Terry worked as a medical secretary until marrying Phil in 1951 and they began raising their family of six children.
Terry loved music and art and was a proficient seamstress. She became an accomplished guitarist and loved teaching local children. Terry and Phil were very involved in St. Augustine's Church located in Ossining and would perform yearly in the St. Patrick's Day Variety show as a family. Terry would often direct these shows. The family lived in Ossining until the early 70's when they moved to NJ and then settled in CA in 1981.
A talented artist, Terry painted in water color, oil and acrylics. She earned many awards and had numerous one-woman shows on both coasts. Her love of dolls led her to take classes in doll making, soon she was making dolls of all sizes including miniatures. She shared her talent with other doll makers through exhibits and teaching classes. Whatever she chose to do in art, she excelled at.
Terry is survived by her husband Philip, children Diane (Chuck) Kebles, Tom (Suzanne) Barrett, Phyllis Hartzell, Virginia Barrett, Bess (Michael) Pieracci, Kevin (Reggie) Barrett, grandchildren Philip (Karen) Kebles, Colleen (Kyle) Imler, Mike (Kassidi) Barrett, Samantha Barrett, Nick (Maureen) Pieracci, Katy Pieracci, Julie Pieracci, Jessie Pieracci, Henry Barrett, and great grandchildren Blakelyn Barrett, Amelie Pieracci and Colin Kebles. She is survived by her sisters Jean Goewey and Celine (Charlie) Breitenbach and brother Paul Temple. Terry is pre-deceased by her parents, brother Ken and sister Patricia.
A private service for the family will be held later this week. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Bonita Springs Hospice, 8545 Monterey Road, Unit B, Gilroy, CA 95020.

James E. Bandy
September 29, 1957 - September 24, 2019

James E. Bandy, 61 of Salinas he was born September 29th 1957 died September 24th 2019 3:55 a.m. after a lengthy illness.
He leaves behind his wife of 23 years, two brothers, his sister, mother, and several nieces and nephews. And 2 grand nephews.
He liked nothing better than to watch a NASCAR race or a good football game. He loved being with his friends and family.
Visitation will be held 3:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2019 Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA. 93901.
Funeral Service will be 11:00a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Struve and Laporte Chapel.
Burial to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas, CA. 93907.

Lucia "Lucy" Nuñez Basaldua
April 27, 1961 - September 24, 2019

Resided in Salinas, California
Lucia Nuñez Basaldua, 58, joined her fellow angels in the early morning hours of September 24th, 2019, after a sudden illness. She was born Lucia Nuñez on April 27, 1961 in Salinas, CA.
As a child, growing up in Gonzales, she was gregarious, fun-loving and always striving for self-betterment. Appreciation, responsibility and self-reliance were important childhood traits she developed early and would carry through adulthood.
Lucy was well-known for her infinite generosity towards her family as well as her community. She served on the Gonzales Unified School District Board as member and president for many years. She was a woman of faith as a life-long member of St. Theodore’s Catholic Church, member of Cursillo in Christianity of the Monterey Diocese, a Catechist of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Spreckles, and participated in Arise Renew International. In addition, she was an avid supporter of Relay for Life.
She worked for the community as an employee of the City of Gonzales prior to her 29 year tenure at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. She served SVMH in numerous capacities, always demonstrating exceptional pride and dedication in her work.
Her altruistic tendencies were best known by her family. As wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, daughter, daughter-in-law, sister, and sister in-law, her selfless dedication to the wellbeing and comfort of others was second nature. Her lessons of care, love, affection, and support will be forever remembered and carried forward by her daughters. Lucy adored and cherished time spent with her granddaughters, for which they will always be blessed.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents: Ramona Carrasco and Teodoro Nuñez; her brother: Ted Nuñez; maternal grandparents: Antonio Saenz and Clamencia Velarde; paternal grandparents: Raphael Tello Nuñez and Maria Gonzalez Nuñez.
She was married to her high school sweetheart, Francisco Manuel Basaldua on November 22, 1980. They enjoyed marriage lovingly until his passing five years ago. They are now reunited in heaven.
She is survived by three daughters: Dolores Basaldua Lawrence, Regina (John) Basaldua-Galvez, Christina Basaldua (Kelly) Gram; Five grandchildren: Alexia Nicole Basaldua, Grace Katherine Basaldua, Rosalind Basaldua Lawrence, Lucia Basaldua Gram and Francesca Basaldua Galvez; siblings: Juan Nuñez, Antonio (Dolores) Nuñez, Ralph Nuñez, Isabel (Richard) Lorono. Lucy will also be remembered as a member of the entire Basaldua family.
May Lucy’s unconditional love and caring spirit continue to bless and inspire.
Visitation - Monday, September 30th, 2019, 1pm - 5:30 pm, Struve and Laporte Mortuary, 41 West San Luis St, Salinas, CA 93901.
Rosary - Monday, September 30th, 2019, at 7 pm at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church, 116 Belden St., Gonzales, CA 93926.
Funeral Mass - Tuesday, October 1st, 2019 at 10 am at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church in Gonzales (address above), followed by burial at Gonzales District Cemetery.

Mary Louise Smith
January 29, 1923 - September 26, 2019

Resided in Salinas, California
Mary Louise Smith, 96, passed away on September 26, 2019.
Mary was born January 29, 1923 in Shenandoah, Iowa and moved to Omaha, Nebraska at an early age. At the age of 21, Mary moved to San Francisco, CA and worked for Pacific Telegraph and Telegram. Three years later she was introduced to the love of her live, John. The two married nine months later in June of 1947 and together they raised nine children.
Mary loved music, singing, gardening and ceramics. Because of her love to sing, she was a member of Sweet Adelines. Mary was also devoted to her faith and was a member of YLI, Catholic Daughters, Angela Angels, Friendship Club, and the Alter Society.
Mary is survived by seven of her children: Martin (Mary) Smith of Sedalia, Kentucky; Denise Flemming of Salinas; Mary Lynn Smith of Salinas, Elaine (Larry) Elder of Salinas; Anne (Marty) Martins of Stagecoach, Nevada; Tim (Kristy) Smith of Salinas; Brent (Kristen) Smith of Salinas. In addition, Mary has eleven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her husband of sixty years, John, a son, Brian Smith, and a daughter, Teresa Cooper.
Visitation is Sunday, September 29, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas, followed by the Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
Mass is Monday, September 30, 2019, 10 a.m. at Madonna Del Sasso Church, 320 E. Laurel Drive, Salinas, and burial will follow at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.

Melba Jean Buckner
July 9, 1939 - September 20, 2019

Resided in Salinas, California
Melba Jean Buckner, 80, of Salinas, passed peacefully on Friday, September 20, 2019.
Born in Clarita, OK, July 9, 1939 to William and Audie Chambers, she moved to Salinas when she was a young girl and graduated from Salinas High School in 1957.
Melba was married to the love of her life, Chris for 58 years. Residing in Salinas she raised 3 children, Jeff, Rhonda, and Lori. She dedicated 43 years to Natividad Medical Center, and together with her husband owned and operated Yamaha of Salinas for 36 years.
She enjoyed an active family life with her husband supporting her children, grandchildren, and great - grandchildren, rarely missing an activity or event. She shared her love of travel with her family with many weekends spent enjoying her home at Lake Nacimiento, and many family vacations both near and far.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chris, her parents, William and Audie Chambers and brothers, Francis and Donny.
She is survived by her children, Jeff (Roxanne) Buckner of Salinas, Rhonda (Dale) Wallace of Salinas and Lori Bush of King City; as well as her grandchildren, Andria (Rob) James, Travis (Valeria) Wallace, Lindsay (Ellie) Almond, Melisa (Justin) Roberts, Jennifer Buckner, Michelle (Jake) Carlton, Corey (Cole) Hudson and Shelby (Cody) Hood; 14 great grandchildren; her brother Bill Chambers of Oklahoma, and numerous family and friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday September 25, 2019 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm at Struve and Laporte Funeral Home, 41 W. San Luis St. Salinas, CA 93901.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, September 26, 2019, at 1:00pm, at Compass Church - Padre Campus, 830 Padre Drive, Salinas, Ca. 93901.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association online by going to https://www.alz.org.
