Loren  Schmidt
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, March 6 for Loren (Smitty)  Schmidt, a lifelong resident of the Point Pleasant area of Elk Grove. Mr.  Schmidt, 65, died Feb. 27, 2005 following a three-year battle with cancer.
He was born June 1, 1939 to Art and Dorothy  Schmidt, attended Franklin Elementary and graduated from Elk Grove High School. He then majored in aeronautics at Sacramento City College.
Mr.  Schmidt was a master vintage airplane mechanic for over 45 years in the Clarksburg and Elk Grove areas. He was a model airplane enthusiast and never missed a flying meet, hosting, with wife Miriam, three meets a year at the  Schmidt ranch.
He was a lifetime member of Point Pleasant United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir for 51 years until his illness took over.
Besides his parents, Mr.  Schmidt was preceded in death by his step-grandson Joey Gilks.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years Miriam Combs  Schmidt; children Tina Gilks and husband Jon and Robert  Schmidt and wife Kimberly; grandchildren Jay and Chelsey Gilks, Khrysten and Kurtis  Schmidt; and step-grandchildren Jon Jr., and Cami Gilks, all of Elk Grove.
Mr.  Schmidt was the brother of Darrell  Schmidt also of Elk Grove, and uncle of William (“B”)  Schmidt of Sacramento.
Sunday’s services begin at 2 p.m. at Point Pleasant United Methodist Church, 3329 Point Pleasant Road, Elk Grove, CA 95758. Private interment is in Point Pleasant Cemetery.
Remembrances may be made to the Point Pleasant Church building fund. Arrangements are by Elk Grove Funeral Chapel.

Kim Condon
Memorial services will be Saturday, March 5 for Kim Simons Condon, 50, a designer and theatrical costumer who died Feb. 19, 2005 after a five-year battle with cervical cancer.
Her husband, Frank Condon is artistic director of River Stage at Cosumnes River College, and Mrs. Condon came up with the name and designed the logo. She was the costume designer at River Stage, and worked with professional companies in this area as well.
Previous work included the Los Angeles Olympic Arts Festival in 1984 and art director for the Sacramento Children’s Festival.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Condon is survived by her daughter Chloe Condon of Sacramento; father B.W. Simons Jr.; mother Marjorie Gavin Simons; and brothers George and Gordon Simons of Tucson, Ariz. and Tad Simons of Palo Alto.
Saturday’s services begin at 1 p.m. at Main Stage of B Street Theatre, 2711 B Street, Sacramento. Remembrances may be made to the Kim Simons Condon Memorial Costume Program scholarship fund, Cosumnes River College, 8401 Center Parkway, Sacramento, CA 95823.

Mary Larson
A rosary and celebration of life gathering will take place tonight (Wednesday) for Mary Katherine Ivica Tocchini Larson, a 17-year resident of Elk Grove who died July 19, 2006 from leukemia.
Mrs. Larson was born in Chester, Pa. on May 26, 1921 to John and Mary (Lucin) Ivica, the youngest of six children. The family moved to California when she was an infant, and resided in Watsonville, Oakland, San Leandro and Elk Grove.
Mrs. Larson married Waldo Tocchini in 1943 and the couple had three children. He died in 1956 and in 1963 she married Gustave Larson.
She worked for Macy’s for more than 25 years, retiring in 1984. The Larsons then moved to Elk Grove in 1989.
Mrs. Larson was a member of the Castro Valley Moose Club, the Elk Grove Grange and the Senior Center of Elk Grove. Interests included shopping, beauty shop visits, casino trips and entertainment, travel, family and friends.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by daughter Marilyn who died in 1972.
Mrs. Larson is survived by her husband of 43 years Gustave Larson; children Vicki Tuttle and husband Bill of Walnut Grove, Alan Tocchini and wife Arcena of Salem, Ore.; and Deborah Larson of Plumas Lake; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of Frank Ivica and wife Kathy of Antelope and Ann Schwartz and husband Charles of Lodi.
Tonight’s services begin at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 9961 Elk Grove-Florin Road. Inurnment and memorial service will be Friday, July 28 at 11 a.m. at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 26320 Mission Blvd., Hayward.
Remembrances may be made to Sutter Hospice, c/o Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove, CA 95624. Arrangements are by Elk Grove Funeral Chapel.

Goldie Hironymous
Memorial services will take place Saturday, July 29 for Goldie B. Hironymous, a lifetime resident of Elk Grove who died July 21, 2006 at the age of 86.
Mrs. Hironymous was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Frank Hironymous.
She is survived by her children Frances Wisdom and husband Arley, Patricia Eck and husband Marty, Frank Hironymous III, and Charles Hironymous all of Elk Grove, and Eva Milburn of Foothill Farms; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Hironymous was the sister of Florence Horrell, Ruth Wozniak and Frank Capps all of Sacramento.
Saturday’s services begin at 10 a.m. in Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd. Interment in Elk Grove District Cemetery will be private.
Remembrances may be made to Mercy Hospice, 3400 Data Drive, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670-9775.

Judy Luna
Funeral services are taking place this morning (Friday) for Judy Ellen Luna who died July 29, 2006 following a battle with cancer. She was 53.
Mrs. Luna was born Sept. 3, 1953 in Sacramento where she grew up, graduating from Kennedy High School. She was a longtime employee of the Elk Grove Unified School District, serving as secretary to the principal at Elk Grove High School and then at Sheldon High School where she was working at the time of her death.
“She always put other people before herself and has forever made an impact on all those who knew her,” said her family.
Mrs. Luna was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd Goulding and Frances Solis; and her brother Floyd Goulding Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, John Luna of Elk Grove; children Juan Jr. and wife Dora of Sacramento, Jason and wife Nicole, JJ and wife Tara and Trina Luna all of Elk Grove; and grandchildren Juan Emanuel, Juan III and Kiki.
Mrs. Luna was the sister of Bruce Goulding Sr. of Sacramento, and Monte and Aliso; and the daughter-in-law of Hope Luna of Wilton. She also leaves several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and cousins.
Today’s services begin at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Gardner Avenue at Florin Road. Interment follows at Sacramento Memorial Lawn on Stockton Boulevard in Sacramento.
The family extends its appreciation to all who attended a spaghetti feed Saturday and contributed donations for Mrs. Luna.

Derick Semone
A chapel service will be held this morning (Friday) for Derick Ryan Semone of Sacramento who died suddenly July 29, 2006 in El Dorado Hills at the age of 23.
Mr. Semone was born June 10, 1983 in Modesto. He worked as a clerk for the Sacramento Superior Court and had previously worked at Giovanni’s Pizza Parlor in Sacramento.
He was an avid sports fan who participated in Ceres Little League baseball, Pop Warner football and basketball. He loved fishing, and building and networking computers.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Joe and Theresa Semone, Manuel Luke and Glenace Meyer.
Mr. Semone is survived by his parents, Daniel Semone of Modesto and Marchelle Meyer and husband Chad of Sacramento; fiancé Linda Rith of Sacramento; sisters Kristin Semone of Elk Grove and Dana Hees of Nanaimo, B.C.; brothers Jason Semone of Modesto and Scott Meyer of Elk Grove; and grandparents Judy Luke of Hughson and Bruce Meyer of Lodi.
Today’s service begins at 10 a.m. at Lodi Funeral Home followed by interment at Cherokee Memorial Park.
Remembrances may be made to Sutter Children’s Hospital, 2801 Capitol Ave., Suite 400, Sacramento, CA 95816.

JoAnn Polansky
JoAnn Polansky, a former longtime resident of Elk Grove, died July 8, 2006 at the age of 69.
Mrs. Polansky was born and raised in southeastern Idaho and eventually settled with her family in Elk Grove in 1975. She was an active member of the Elk Grove First Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for almost 20 years until she moved with husband Mike to St. Louis.
She worked for several years as a merchandiser for Hallmark Cards and American Greetings.
Mrs. Polansky was preceded in death by her granddaughter.
She is survived by her husband Mike; children Michelle Polansky, Michael Polansky and Jennifer Polansky Tucker; and two granddaughters and two grandsons.
Services were held July 11 in St. Louis.

Albert Stoecker
Memorial services will take place Saturday, Aug. 5 for Albert Leo (Al) Stoecker who died July 26, 2006 in Herald at the home of his cousin-in-law, Judy Stoecker. Mr. Stoecker, 87, had resided there for the past three months under hospice care.
He was born in Oakley, Kan. on Sept. 13, 1918 to Godfrey and Lydia Stoecker, and grew up in Elk Grove, graduating from school here. He served in the armed forces, traveling to several foreign countries with his unit.
Mr. Stoecker lived in several states with  Texas as his home base while pursuing a career as a salesman.
In the mid-‘80s he moved back to Elk Grove to be near his father. He volunteered as a driver for the Senior Center of Elk Grove, worked at Ace Hardware in Elk Park Village shopping center, and at Valley Hi Country Club.
“He never met a stranger, and you never heard him say a bad word about anyone,” said Judy Stoecker.
Mr. Stoecker was preceded in death by his wife Peggie, brother Richard William and companion Stella Lindsey.
He is survived by Stella Lindsey’s daughters and family; sister-in-law June Stoecker; nephew Gary Stoecker; niece Kathy Jones; Uncle Fred Stoecker in Kansas: and numerous cousins in Kansas, Jack Stoecker of Sacramento and Rita Lucas of  Washington.
Saturday’s services will begin at 10 a.m. at Sacramento Memorial Lawn, 6100 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento.
