Jesse "Jaye" Clark - Artist
Jesse Clark passed away on November 26, 2002 in Tulsa Oklahoma. Known to her friends as "Jaye," Jesse was an artist who loved to paint florals. She also crocheted afghans and created holiday decorations for parties held at Fitch Mountain Terrace. For many years, she organized all of the events there. She was born on August 4, 1911 in Oklahoma and is survived by her daughter Lori Moore, her sister Georgia, and her grandchildren Shannon and Neal Moore. A memorial celebration will be held at her daughter's home on December 15 at 1 p.m. Call for directions at 431-3303.
Adrienne Dennis - Co-Owner of Nu Forest Products
Adrienne Dennis passed away on November 28, 2002 in Windsor. She was a co-owner of PRMCO Ranch and Nu Forest Products. Adrienne's involvement in the PRMCO Ranch reflected her love and compassion for animals. She was also a talented artist and crafts person who truly lived life to its fullest. Adrienne is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Mike Weatherby, her son and daughter-in-law Jay and Camilla Ford. She also leaves behind her granddaughter Heidi Adrienne Ford, her grandson and his wife Monte and Vannessa Weatherby and great-granddaughter Serenity Weatherby. She was predeceased by her husband Chester Dennis. She is also survived by her two step-daughters Holly and Caroline. Private memorial services will be held. Stephen Chalmers Wilkie - Native of Scotland
Stephen Chalmers Wilkie passed away in November of 2002 in Healdsburg. This dear Scot melded a rich background of his parents' country, Scotland, and his own birth land of eastern Montana. Beginning in childhood, Steve was interested in the culture and history of Native American Indians. His 15 minutes of fame was having sat on the lap of Chief Two Moons as a child. Steve's favorite group entertainment was an Indian pow-wow or Scottish Games. He was a student of Gaelic and Irish, and was fluent in Spanish. He was a quiet, unceremonious person and a bagpiper. Born April 1914 in Rosebud, Montana, he was educated in the public schools of Montana and attained a Bachelor's Degree in Forest Management at the University of Montana. He also went on to receive a Master's Degree. Stephen spent much of his life working as a carpenter, settling in Southern California, close to major cross-country skiing and rock climbing areas, and with easy access to Mexico. On weekends, Steve often hiked, camped, or skied or did all three activities. After retiring, he moved to Healdsburg at age 71 with his companion Doris Golden. He loved the country, and the many animals and trees on he and Doris' small farm. He enjoyed outdoor life through canoeing, camping, and cross-country skiing even until the age of 87 years old. Steve enjoyed riding his motorcycle into town, and was most proud of his 1936 green Ford touring car, which he bought in the 1940s. He loved trees and wood and had tremendous knowledge of both. Hundreds of redwoods and eucalyptus were planted and tended by Steve on public and private land here. Steve will be remembered by his companion Doris Golden and her family, by his brother and sister-in-law Pete and Dorothy Wilkie of Washington, by his nieces and nephews, and his many friends. A service will be held on Sunday, December 15, at 11 a.m. at his home. Contributions can be made in Stephen's memory to the Healdsburg Food Pantry.
Ruth Alma Earons - grandmother of three
Ruth Alma Earons passed away on January 21, 2003 at 5:21 p.m. in Clearlake. Memorial services were held on Sunday, February 2 at the Healdsburg Community Church in Healdsburg. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Healdsburg Community Church for their Christian Education Building Fund.
Rolland Hutchinson - former Sebastopol resident
Rolland Keith Hutchinson, 92, died on Jan. 23 in Santa Rosa. Born to David Guy and Margery Lillian Hutchinson, he moved to California in '28 with his sister Esther Holloway. He lived in Sonoma County for 73 years. He was a member of the Sebastopol Co-op Cannery and the Molino Dryer. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and in his younger days, enjoyed riding his motorcycle and flying his airplane. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Agness Hutchinson, his daughters Barbara Duffy of Washington, Linda Kennedy and her husband, Dale of Crescent City and Janet Hutchinson of Sebastopol, his six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
June Leslie Jones - remembered for her love and devotion
June Leslie Jones died peacefully in Santa Rosa on January 31, 2003. She will be missed by her husband of 64 years, Bob Jones, who so lovingly cared for her as her mind and body slowly deteriorated from Alzheimer's Disease. June was born in Windsor on June 24, 1919 to Charles and Anna (Hotchkiss) Leslie. She married Bob, a Healdsburg native, on May 22, 1938, and their marriage set an example of love and devotion to each other and to their children: Candace (Leroy) Danhausen, of Healdsburg; Leslie (Jan) Jones of Sacramento; Robi (John) Daniel of Santa Rosa and their five grandchildren: Kendra (Chris) Froom of Healdsburg; Rand (Isa) Rodgers of Ukiah; Holly (Jaime) Aguila of Odessa, Texas; Dana Daniel of Sacramento and Daniel Jones of Fountain Hills, Arizona. June was a special great-grandmother to three: Mikayla and Machenzie Froom and Benjamin Aguila. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the Healdsburg Women's Gold Club, and the Healdsburg Historical Society. In addition to family, church and community, June loved to travel with Bob, fish at Dunsmuir with the grandchildren and play cards with friends. At her request, there will be a private family burial at Shiloh District Cemetery
in Windsor with Pastor Clint Lutz officiating. It was her desire to have a memorial created in her name at her church. Mary Lou Kenchelian
Mary Lou Kenchelian passed away in her Windsor home on Friday, Jan. 31, 2003. She will be greatly missed,but her spirit, strength and unconditional love will always reside in the hearts of her family and friends. Mary Lou was proud of her Armenian heritage and was devoted to her home and extended family. She was the daughter of the late Kamig and Geraldine Kenchelian, sister of Mark Kenchelian, Helene Franchi, Chrissie Hogg and the late John Kenchelian.
She is survived by her loving husband of 17 years, Jeff Harding, principal of Windsor High School, and her two sons, John and Dan, who were the joy of her life. Her pride in them was unbounded. Mary Lou also leaves behind nieces and nephews Sonya, Maria, Lisanne, Elizabeth, Peter and John, all of whom she loved unconditionally.
Friends and family are invited to gather for a memorial service celebrating Mary Lou's life on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. in the Windsor High School theater. Fred R. Lynch - dear great-grandfather
Fred R. Lynch passed away suddenly on January 26, 2003 at the home of his mother-in-law Wilda Johnson in Healdsburg. Born July 14, 1932 in Portland, Oregon, he is survived by his wife of 48 years, Maryann and their children, Rose Corriera of Quincy, Laura McCoy of Moses Lake, Washington, James Lynch of Elko, Nevada and Amelia Lynch of Pleasant Hill. Beloved grandfather of Stephanie, Amanda, AnnaRose, Cole, Kaden, Cindy, Greg, Joe, Brad, Lyndsi, and dear great grandfather of Brittany, Brad, Chyanne, Dylon and Tyson. Also survived by his sister Roberta Frasier of Ukiah, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Memorial services were held at the Alexander Valley Community Church, 6650 Highway 128, Alexander Valley, on Saturday, February. 1, 2003. Private interment at Beeson Cemetery
in Alexander Valley.
Janice Gillette McInerney - 74, died in her Sebastopol home on Jan. 27.
Born and raised in New England, she moved to California in 1951. She and her late husband Edward J. McInerney retired to Occidental in 1979 then settled in Sebastopol. Her hobbies included drawing, water color painting, lapidary, knitting, gardening and bird watching. She volunteered with Santa Rosa Bird Rescue Center. She is survived by her sister Patricia Harris Gillette of Yountville, her children Edward John McInerney, Jr. of San Jose and Kathleen Gillette Pozzi of Santa Rosa and her grandchildren Kimberly McInerney of Sacramento, Walter Cox and Jonathan Cox of Santa Rosa and Rebecca McInerney of San Jose. Donations in her memory can be made to Memorial Hospice in Santa Rosa.
James Murphy - James T. Murphy, 78
Died on Jan. 25 in his Sebastopol home. Born in Petaluma, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the S.S. Santa Monica. He participated in the invasions of Guadalcanal, Bougainvillaea, Siapan, Guam and Okinawa. Murphy and his late wife, Alice Murphy, moved to Sebastopol in 1955 after he graduated from the U.C. Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. He founded the Analy Veterinary Hospital and practiced in Sebastopol for 47 years. He was past president of the Redwood Empire Veterinary Medical Association and a former reserve sheriff's deputy. He volunteered in the Sebastopol Optimist Club youth activities, Sonoma County Sheriff's Department Search and Rescue, the California Rescue Dog Association and National Association of Search and Rescue. In his later years he took up the electric organ and drums. He was a member of the Sonoma County New Horizons Band. He is survived by his children, James T. Murphy, Jr. of Portola, Robert A. Murphy of Lincoln, Patricia A. Murphy of Santa Rosa and Jani Jacobs of Carmichael, his grandchildren Shelly Yockey, Jennifer Murphy, Ryan Murphy, Melissa Murphy, Taylor Jacobs and Allison Jacobs and three great-grandchildren.
Dennis Kamm Alexander
Dennis Kamm Alexander Of Windsor passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2003 with family by his side. Loving husband of Joni Alexander, adored son of Helene Alexander and the late Kamm Alexander. Devoted brother of Sherein Alexander, loved son-in-law of Robert Weiss, Sr., and Charline Weiss. Dennis will be missed by his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Dennis was born in Modesto and raised in San Francisco, then moved to Sonoma County in the early 1980's, where he established D.K. Alexander Painting and Decorating. Dennis enjoyed music, rodeos, and camping. Adelene Conway - enjoyed gardening and doll collecting
Adelene Conway passed away on March 12 at her home in Healdsburg. She was born on July 20, 1916, the daughter of Mary Christina and George Augustus Bird in Marysville and was raised with her brothers George, Jr. and Elvin, in the nearby community of Hammonton. She married Eugene Morrison Conway and settled in Larkspur. She had a special love of family, gardening, doll collecting and animals, both domestic and wild. Adelene retired to Healdsburg in 1975, to be near her children and grandchildren. She leaves behind her daughters Laverne Conway, Healdsburg and Dawn Solon, San Rafael; granddaughters Erin Haas and her husband Dave and their daughters Megan and Adelene, Cloverdale, Dierdre Solon, Los Angeles; grandsons Brian Mazzoli, Healdsburg, Vincent Solon and his wife Julie and their sons Vincent Lee and Jonathan Lee, Georgetown, Sean Finney and his wife Jen, Rancho Murietta, California; great-grandson Mathew Muncy, Santa Barbara, and many relatives in the Bird family. Special appreciation is extended to Fiji Islander Lewai Thaggard, Tom Neyens, Dr. Richard Ganz, and Jan Kiely, for their loving support. A private ceremony will be held in June at Oakmound Cemetery
in Healdsburg.
Martha Evelyn Hill - remembered for her fondness and love for family
Martha Evelyn Hill passed away peacefully, Sunday, March 30, 2003 in Healdsburg, at the age of 80. Martha was born in Berkeley on November 30, 1922. She was raised in San Francisco, moving to South San Francisco in the early 1950's, then to Sonoma County in 1994. Beloved wife of the late Melvin L. Hill. Martha is survived by her only child, Nancy Jean Powers of Gasquet, son-in-law, Vern Powers, Jr. of Gasquet. Loving grandmother of Jason Hill of Santa Rosa, Russell Willis of Sebastopol, and Angel Powers of Eureka. Dear sister of George Fite of Fairfield. She was preceded in death by sisters Betty, Marion, and Margie. Martha also leaves many nieces and nephews. She will long be remembered for her fondness and love of family and friends. Martha, a long time member of St. Paul's Methodist Church in South San Francisco, cherished her years with Church Members and her Circle friends. She worked for many years for Bank of America in San Francisco and South San Francisco. She was a good sport, having fun with grandchildren and always ready to go for a ride. She faced many health concerns bravely and with integrity. Martha was an avid participant in the Day Health Program at Friends House in Santa Rosa. Her years at Friends House provided social interaction and nurturing that she was most grateful for. She leaves a caring and loving care home at Magnolia Manor, Healdsburg, that she considered family. A Memorial Service was held for Martha on Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Hope United Methodist Church in South San Francisco.
Rose Sarah Marzlin
Rose Sarah Marzlin passed away in Santa Rosa on Saturday, March 29, 2003. Rose is lovingly survived by her daughters, Barbara Reiser of Pollock Pines, Violet Haynie and her husband Frank of Valley Springs, Nancy Sigsbee and her husband Dick of Milpitas, Pegi Ball of Windsor, Janice Marzlin of Santa Rosa and Pat Oliver of Santa Rosa. Also survived by nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Rose is preceded in death by her husband, the late Herman Marzlin, who passed away in 1989, her only son Leighton Marzlin and her son-in-law Don Reiser. Rose was a native of Farmington, New Mexico and it was there that she married her husband in 1931. That same year the couple moved to California. She relished in being a mother and wife for her family. Rose also enjoyed sewing, quilting and embroidery and was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Redwood City. A Sonoma County resident for five years, Rose was 89. We will miss her smile and laughter and that mischievous twinkle in her eye... Friends attended a Funeral Service to celebrate her life on Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at the Daniels Chapel of the Roses, 1225 Sonoma Ave., Santa Rosa. Interment, Skylawn Memorial Park, San Mateo. In lieu of flowers, Rose's family would be honored if you would direct donations in her memory to the charity of your choice.
George Menini
Sebastopol apple grower George Menini, 86, died at home on April 6. He was director of the Gold Ridge RCD for more than 20 years and the 2002 grand marshall of the Apple Blossom Parade. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean. He is survived by his daughter Dena Bondelie and her husband, David, and their children. St. Sebastian's Church held a funeral mass at 9:30 a.m. on April 10.
Mattie Velma Pierce
Mattie Velma Pierce died in Santa Rosa, April 1, 2003. Loving wife of the late Cater Pierce. Loving mother of Henry Pierce of Windsor, Betty Swearingen of Santa Rosa, Gary Pierce of Willits and Doris Crawford of Napa. Beloved sister of Flora LaRue of Oregon and Janie Crane of Windsor. Also survived by seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A native of Texas, she was 86. She and her husband had owned the Windsor Castle in the 1950's, they then owned Cater's Coffee Shop, originally located on Old Redwood Highway in Windsor in the 50's and 60's and then Cater's moved to downtown Windsor in the 60's and 70's. Friends attended funeral services on Thursday, April 3, 2003 at 1 p.m. at the Eggen & Lance Mortuary. Interment Santa Rosa Memorial Park, Shiloh Addition, Windsor.
George W. Renz - Considered himself a "gentleman" farmer
George W. Renz was born on August 21, 1912 in New York City, and died in his home in Geyserville on March 22, 2003, after a long illness. He is survived by his brothers: John, of Long Beach, Howard of Brooklyn, New York; and his children Kathleen Renz of Santa Rosa, Kevin Renz of Geyserville, Norine Renz of Santa Rosa and Daniel Renz of Santa Rosa. He is also survived by his grandchildren Christine and Fred Goldman, Wendy and Gabriel Renz, and Ean Charles, Genai Renz and Corrin Brown. Great-grandchildren are Courney and Mia Charles and Alexia Brown. George worked for the New York City Department of Marine & Aviation as a Boilermaker for 20 years. Prior to that he worked in numerous positions constructing electrical generating plants and industrial facilities such as Bethlehem Steel Corporation in the New England area. He settled in Sonoma County after retiring in 1974. Always an avid fisherman on the East coast, he saw the Russian River and gauged this county's proximity to the California coast and said, "This is for me." He loved the idea of having a few acres to raise sheep and chickens and considered himself a "gentleman" farmer. A family memorial service will be held on an as yet undetermined date. He was cremated by Pleasant Hill Mortuary of Sebastopol. Memorial donations may be made to the Sutter VNA & Hospice Foundation, 1110 North Dutton Avenue, Santa Rosa, 95401-4606 as the family is very grateful for their support and kindness during the last days of George's illness.
Kenneth M. (Ken) Sullivan - retired Sergeant Inspector with the SFPD
Kenneth M. (Ken) Sullivan was a retired Sergeant Inspector with the San Francisco Police Department, which he served for 28 years. Born May 8, 1927. Graduate of San Francisco's Saint Anne's of the Sunset and Saint Ignatius High School. Served in the United States Marine Corps. Received Gold Medal of Valor from the City of San Francisco Police Department for bravery above and beyond the call of duty in 1972. Predeceased by parents, Mike and Birdy; brother Joseph; sisters Rosemary, Helen, Florence, May and Elizabeth. Ken passed away quietly at Kaiser Hospital, Santa Rosa on April 3, 2003 while surrounded by his family. Devoted and cherished husband of Theresa Sullivan. Survived by Theresa and their sons: Michael, Stephen, Martin, Brian (Julia), Gary, Phillip (Christine) of Healdsburg, Alan (Michelle), Glenn (Jill); and daughter, Julie (Mike) Trainor. Also survived and adored by grandchildren Kyle, Courtney and Connor of Healdsburg, along with Heath, Stephanie, Sean, Jake, Tyler, Darren, Leah, Michael Maris, Justin, Morgan, Matthew and Ian. Ken was loved dearly by a large extended family. Ken enjoyed his retirement and most especially, his duties as the goodwill ambassador for the Stavin Company, GT Sullivan Tire and Creekside Bakery. A service was held on Monday, April 7 at Duggan's Mission Chapel in Sonoma. Any donations can be made in his name to further research on Polycythemia Vera or to the charity of your own choice.
Charles Edwin White - avid gardener, shared his produce with everyone
Charles Edwin White, 89, passed away February 27, 2003 in Lynwood, Washington. He was born August 15, 1913 in Enfield, Illinois to Edward and Bertha White. Charlie married Valera Burnham September 20, 1937 in San Francisco. They were married 64 years when she passed away in 2001 in Santa Rosa. They had two sons, Steve and his wife Wanda of Clinton, Washington, and their sons Brian, of Denver, Colorado, and Ben of Yakutat, Arkansas, Bruce and his wife Valerie, live in Healdsburg, and his daughter Angela Sage Larsen and husband, Whit, live in Chesterfield, Montana. Other surviving family members include: sister-in-law Vi Sletner and her husband Graydon of Millville, sister-in-law, Marie Peterson of Bayfield, Colorado, special cousin Gracie Fields of Santa Rosa, and many kind and loving nephews and nieces. Charlie received his 55 year membership pin in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in 2002. He was an electrician in Santa Rosa for many years and willingly helped family and friends with their electrical work. He was an avid gardener and shared his lovely produce with everyone. After retiring, Charlie and Val traveled with their fifth wheel trailer. They retired to Yuma and Wickenburg, Arizona and Palo Cedro and Redding at different times before returning to Santa Rosa to reside at the Lodge at Paulin Creek. His family offers their heartfelt gratitude to the Glens' staff in Lynwood, Washington where he lived for two years and to the hospice staff that lovingly cared for him.
