John Gordon Holland Jr.
John Gordon Holland Jr.
Passed away at home on October
30, 2008 after a brief battle with
melanoma. John was born January
6, 1943, and raised in St. Joseph,
Missouri. He moved to California
in 1964 after discharge
from U.S Army. He had lived in
Pleasanton since 1975. He owned
and operated Holland Pest Control
for 27 years.
He is survived by his wife
Bette, daughter Regina Holland
of Stockton, son John G. Holland
III of Castro Valley, stepson
Adam Brissette of Pocatello,
Idaho, four grandchildren, and
three great-grandchildren. He is
also survived by brothers Richard
Holland of St. Joseph, Missouri,
Jim Holland of Avenue
City, Missouri and sisters Ann
Yama, BettyJo Ross, and Elizabeth
Roberts, all of St. Joseph.
He will be dearly missed by
all who knew him.
Services were held on Tuesday,
November 4th in Pleasanton.
Donations may be made to
Hope Hospice.

Betty May Roraback
Betty May Roraback was
born September 20, 1918 in San
Jose, CA to George and Hazel
Roraback. She passed away October
29, 2008. Betty lived most
of her life in Sunol. She was a
resident of Livermore at the time
of her death.
Betty began her career early
with San Jose water district, and
then went to work at the VA hospital
in Livermore as an administrator
for many years until retirement.
After retirement, Betty
went to work for the Purple Heart
at the VA hospital.
In her early years, Betty enjoyed
going to plays in San Francisco
with friends. In her later
years she enjoyed driving her 74’
Chrysler; “the yellow sunshine”
until she was 85 years old.
Betty was preceded in death
by her niece Sally Roraback; and
is survived by twin nieces Loretta
Loftis and Nina Roraback, several
grand nieces and nephews.
At Betty’s request no services
will be held.

Mary Louise McCart
Longtime Livermore resident
Mary Louise McCart, 77, of
Haskell, OK passed from this life
Monday, October27, 2008 in
Tulsa OK. She was born March
15, 1931 in Wanette, OK to William
and Leatha (Vestal) Cottrell.
Mary worked as a cook for
many years and was of the Baptist
faith. She moved to Haskell
from California three years ago
to live with her sister and enjoyed
flea markets immensely.
Ms. McCart was preceded in
death by her parents, her husband
Lewis A. McCart, Jr. in 1994,
whom she married on Sept. 7,
1950, and several brothers and
sisters. She is survived by sons
Jimmy, Ronald, and Richard
McCart, all of Haskell, daughter
and son-in-law Janice and Ernie
Norton of Santa Ana, CA., brothers
Charlie Cottrell of Coalinga,
CA, Jay Cottrell of Wheatland,
CA, sisters, Shirley Adams and
husband Frank of Haskell, Christine
May of Empire, CA, Lillie
Elms of Henderson, NV, three
grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday, November 6, at 2 p.m.
at Callaghan Mortuary, 3833
East Ave. Burial will be at
Roselawn Cemetery in Livermore.

Barbara Elaine
Swartzwelder
Barbara E. Swartzwelder, 79,
born in San Jose, passed away
after a long illness on October
20, 2008. She was born Feb. 7,
1929. She had lived in Pleasanton
for 40 years.
She was a member of the San
Jose Eastern Star, as a Star Point.
Barbara is survived by her
loving family, her spouse of 60
years, Robert (Dean)
Swartzwelder of Pleasanton, son
Bryce (Mary Frances) of Nipomo,
CA and sister, Lynda Sherry of
Sonora, and grandchildren,
Bryce II and Jessenda of Nipomo,
CA.
Private Services will be held.
Arrangements are by Graham-
Hitch Mortuary.

John Daly Dies at 71
John Daly, the British-born
producer of 13 Oscar-winning
movies including “Platoon” and
“The Last Emperor” who helped
launch the careers of many A-list
directors and actors, has died. He
was 71.
This past April at the 10th
Annual California Independent
Film Festival in Livermore California,
Mr. Daly received the
2008 Lifetime Achievement
Award.
Daly, who was chairman of
Film and Music Entertainment
Inc., died Friday morning at Cedars-
Sinai Medical Center in Los
Angeles after struggling with
cancer, said his daughter, Jenny
Daly.
Over a career that spanned four
decades, Daly helped to produce
films that earned 13 Oscars for
Best Picture and 21 Oscar nominations,
as well as numerous
Golden Globes and other awards.
Daly’s companies boosted the
career starts of seminal directors
such as Oliver Stone (“Platoon,”
“Salvador”), Bernardo
Bertolucci (“The Last Emperor”)
and Robert Altman (“Images”),
as well as actors Denzel  Washington,
Keanu Reeves and Julia
Roberts.
“John was truly a giant in the
industry who changed filmmaking
for the better,” said Lawrence
Lotman, chief financial officer
and acting chief executive officer
of Film and Music Entertainment
Inc., in a statement.
Born in London, Daly joined
with British actor David
Hemmings in 1967 to form
Hemdale, a company that managed
rock bands such as Yes and
Black Sabbath.
Hemdale later became a leading
independent film producer
and distributor in Great Britain
with movies such as “Tommy,”
according to a biography issued
by Film and Music Entertainment
Inc.
Under Daly’s stewardship,
Hemdale produced more than
100 films that grossed more than
$1.5 billion.
Since 2003, Daly had been at
the helm of Film and Music Entertainment
Inc. In 2004, he produced,
co-wrote and directed
“The Aryan Couple,” starring
Martin Landau, which received
awards at film festivals around
the world.
He is survived by three sons,
Michael, Julian and Timothy, and
one daughter, Jenny.

Emile John Bonne
Emile John Bonne passed
peacefully on October 29, 2008.
Emile was born on November 29,
1923 to Leon & Mary Bonne.
Emile spent most of his young
life in Livermore, until to moving
to San Francisco and then
spending his last 40 years in Sacramento.
He served as a Technical
Sergeant in the US Army Air
Force Base Unit until his honorable
discharge in 1943. Emile
was a member in The Elks Club
and loved collecting Antiques.
Emile is survived by his sister
Marguerite Field of Castro Valley,
sisters-in-law Adelaide
Bonne of Livermore and Mary
Ann Caratti of Modesto, nieces
Linda (Kermit) Bankson of
Castro Valley & Anne Marie
(Bob) Olson of San Mateo, nephews
Tim Field & Ron (Katrin)
Field of Castro Valley, Leon
Canzianni of Garden Grove and
John (Mary) Caratti of Montana.
He is also survived by his best
friend Joe Lavrino of Sacramento.
Mass of the Resurrection will
be celebrated at 11 a.m on Thursday,
Nov 6 at St. Michael’s Catholic
Church, 458 Maple St., Livermore,
with burial immediately
following at St. Michael’s Catholic
Cemetery 3885 East Ave, Livermore.
