Wynn Cullen, 48, died Wednesday morning, April 3, 2002. She was born Aug. 28, 1953, in Oroville. She lived there and at Lake Tahoe, before moving to the San Francisco Bay area and then Ashland, Ore., 20 years ago. Cullen loved children, a good bet, gardening and cooking. She was proud of her father's Maidu heritage and tapped into it while working several years in a Native American store in Ashland. Cullen was preceded in death by her father and mother, Stanley and Betty Cullen. Survivors include her partner, Bruce Dwight; sons, Stanley, Jeremie and Joshua; and eight grandchildren. A celebration of Cullen's life will be held at the Community United Methodist Church in Quincy, Friday afternoon, April 12, at 1 p.m. Interment will take place near her parents and grandparents. Virginia Fripp, 79, formerly of Cromberg, died April 3, 2002, in Livermore. She was born March 25, 1923, in Los Angeles. Fripp's hobby was painting.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Fripp, of Cromberg; son, Richard Fripp II, of Cromberg; daughters, Gayle Evens, of Tracy, and Becky Davis, of Brentwood; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at the Cromberg Cemetery, followed by a barbecue at the Fripp Ranch.

Emma Arbel Purdy, 94, died April 6, 2002, at Sunbridge Convalescent Hospital. She was born in DeQueen, Ark., March 15, 1908. Purdy was preceded in death by her sons, William Edward Caswell and Lee Caswell, and by one grandson. Survivors include her daughters, Ruth Pruitt and Beth Purdy, of Janesville; two grandsons; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. The family has chosen not to have any services at this time.

Dorothy Lea Lindsey, 61, died at her residence near Susanville April 4, 2002. She was born in Merced on Aug. 29, 1940, and had been a resident of Lassen County for the past 39 years. Lindsey retired from the California Department of Corrections. She was a member of the Honey Lake Valley Assembly of God Church, the Honey Lake Riders, the Native Daughters of the Golden West and the City of Susanville Rodeo Committee. She was a past member of the Susanville Quarter Horse Show and the Lassen County Fair Horse Show, had helped out with the Little Britches Rodeo, and had been a 4-H leader. Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Daniel C. Lindsey Sr., of Susanville; sons, Daniel C. Lindsey Jr. and David Lindsey, of Susanville; daughter, Debbie Lindsey, of Susanville; mother, Jewel Dysart, of Merced; brother, Mike Dysart, of Fortuna; sister, Barbara Smith, of Merced; and seven grandchildren. Graveside services were held April 9 at Diamond Crest Cemetery in Johnsville. The family requests that any donations in Lindsey's name be made to either the American Cancer Society or the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Lorraine Dahlen, 75, died Thursday, March 27, 2002, with her son at her side at the Redding Medical Center in Redding,  Calif. She was born Aug., 7, 1926, in Exeter,  Calif., and was a 30-year resident of the Chester/Lake Almanor area moving here from Santa Barbara,  Calif. She, along with her late husband, owned and operated Dahlen Trailer Service and Supply Company along with a Mobil Oil Truck Stop in Southern California for 35 years, retiring and moving to the Lake Almanor Peninsula after the sale of the business in 1975. A founding member and elder with the Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church of Chester, she had been a longtime member of the Chester Senior Citizens, former member of the Lake Almanor Country Club where she helped coordinate potlucks for a number of years, a volunteer with Sierra Hospice and a member of the Chester/Lake Almanor Caregivers. Lorraine enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, was accomplished in all types of crafts and had become quite renowned for her talent in decorating eggs. She is survived by her sons, Robert E. Dahlen of Chester, Roger E. Dahlen of Santa Barbara, and Larry P. Dahlen of Susanville; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Robert in March 2000 and one brother. A celebration of Lorraine's life was held Saturday, April 6, at the Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church in Chester. Interment took place alongside her late husband in the Chester District Cemetery. Kenneth Ross Christensen, 48, died at his residence Thursday, March 28, 2002. He was born Dec. 7, 1953, in Reno, Nev.
Following a severe motorcycle accident in 1993, Christensen moved to Westwood where he was actively involved in hunting, fishing and camping. He is survived by his mother, Hazel E. Pursell, of Portola; brother, Steve Christensen of Sparks, Nev.; and sister, Sharon Quilici, of Sparks. Services were held April 6, at the Westwood Retirement Center Clubhouse.

Walter O. "Sonny" Hood Jr., 82, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002. He was born in Sterling, Okla., Aug. 11, 1919. He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Katherine. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine (Jerri); two daughters, Jessie and Elizabeth; two sons, Jim and Micheal; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Walter served in the 2nd Division during World War II in Headquarters Company, 23rd Infantry. He participated in campaigns in France and Germany helping to liberate American prisoners of war as well as civilian prisoners in the concentration camps along the way. He was awarded the Bronze Star with an Oak Leaf Cluster, World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon and the Expert Infantry Badge. He was a past post commander and life member of Post 7263, Capitola,  Calif. He was also Past Seam Squirrel and life member of the Military Order of the Cooties Pup Tent 14, Capitola,  Calif. Additionally he was past Esteemed Leading Knight, and Life Member of the Lawton, Okla., Elks Lodge # 1056. Walter and Jerri Hood moved to Susanville in 1987 where they resided until 1996. The memorial service will be held in Capitola, at a future date.

Jerry Lee Dotson, 74, died Friday, March 29, 2002, after a long illness in Red Bluff,  Calif. He was born April 8, 1927, in Paden, Okla. Dotson is a former resident of Susanville. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He is survived by wife, Patsy Dotson of Los Molinos,  Calif.; son, Jimmie L. Dotson of Oroville,  Calif.; daughters, Juanita J. Hull of Susanville, Donna Makee, of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Nancy D. Riley of Cresent City,  Calif.; sister, Betty Arnold, of Fresno,  Calif.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers send donations to Tri-Counties Bank "Jerry Dotson" Memorial Fund.

Ethel Larson Greer, 82, died at the home of her daughter on Friday, Jan. 11, 2002. Ethel was born in St. Louis ,Mo., Nov. 27, 1919, the last of 10 children. She moved to California on the train with her mother in 1937 and settled in Sacramento, where she met and married Carl Larson in 1946. In August 1948, she and Carl moved to Quincy and ran the Quincy Drug Store soda fountain. Seven years later, she and Carl built the first self-serve drive-in in Quincy. They operated it until 1973, when illness forced its sale. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Larson, in 1974 and husband Marshall Greer in 1991. She is survived by her daughter Ireta; a granddaughter, and two great-grandchildren, all of Quincy. A memorial in her honor will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Quincy on Sunday, Jan. 20 ,at 2 p.m.
