Helen Huntsman

(Sept. 15, 1932 - April 15, 2001)

Helen Mae Huntsman, 68, died Sunday at Mercy Medical Center in Redding following a brief illness.

Mrs. Huntsman was born in Nashville, Tenn. and was a resident of Napa since 1996. She grew up in Vallejo and was educated at various Catholic schools in Vallejo. Mrs. Huntsman was married in 1952, and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by parents, Richard Smith and Mary Bonner; husband, James H.; step-father, Charles Bonner; son, Karl; and grandson, Joshua.

Survivors include sons, Robert of Redding, David of Sutherlin, Oreg., Terry of Netarts, Oreg., Richard of Virginia Beach, Va., and Gary of Santa Rosa; daughters, Debbie Isaacs of Yuba City, Mary James of Libby, Mont., and Corina Koufos of Napa; brother, Richard Smith of Eagle Point, Oreg.; 25 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Napa Valley Park Funeral Home, Napa. Service at 2 p.m. Thursday at Napa Valley Park Funeral Home with a Catholic priest officiating. Cemetery, Napa Valley Memorial Park, Napa.

Contributions preferred to the March of Dimes.

Janette Hillery

(Oct. 18, 1954 - Aug. 4, 2001)

Janette Dale Hillery, 46, of Fairfax, died Saturday at Marin General Hospital as a result of complications from pneumonia.

Ms. Hillery was born in Walnut Creek and was raised in Montclair, Oakland and has lived in Fairfax this past year.

She was preceded in death by parents, Charles Hillery and Muriel Villanueva.

Survivors include companion, David Didier of Fairfax; son, Russell Murray of Hayward; sister, Cheryl Hillery-Stewart of Napa; brother, Mark of Idaho; stepfather, Ernie Villanueva; stepsister, Valerie Williams of Montana; stepbrothers, Dan Villanueva of Napa and Paul Villanueva of Lake County; four nephews; and two nieces.

Memorial at 1 p.m. Aug. 25 at The Lotus Blossom, 1730 Yajome St., Napa. Arrangements by Twin Chapels Mortuary, Vallejo.

Jovita Abalos

(Nov. 3, 1921 -- Dec. 7, 2001)

Jovita Estaris Abalos, 80, died Friday at Doctors Medical Center-San Pablo, after a short illness.

Mrs. Abalos was born in the Philippines and was a Vallejo resident for one year. She was a homemaker, and member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by husband, Jose Sr. on July 20, 2000.

Survivors are daughter, Rosalinda delos Reyes of Vallejo; sons, Ernesto (Nora), Jose Jr. (Elvira), Narciso (Soledad), Geraldo (Zenaida), Renato (Lisa), and Nicanor, all of the Philippines, and Carlito (Jocelyn) of Australia; sisters, Consolacion Abrio and Purita Peredo, and brother, Avelino Estaris, all of the Philippines; 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Colonial Chapels, Vallejo. Services and burial in the Philippines. Burial in Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, Mangaldan, Pangasinan, Philippines.

John Gates

(Aug. 6, 1924 -- Feb. 15, 2002)

John William Gates, 77, of Benicia, died Friday in a Concord hospital after a long illness.

He was born in Arizona, and had lived in Woodland five years during the late 1980s, he then moved to Vallejo and Benicia where he stayed for more than 25 years.

He retired in 1962, as a hospital corpsman for the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service, he was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War.

While in Woodland, he was a member, past president and vice-president of the Sylvan Sam RV Club of Woodland.

Mr. Gates is survived by his wife, Barbara of Benicia; daughters, Joan Cardinale of San Jose; Janet Cary of North Pole, Alaska; son, John of Santa Clara; stepdaughter, Jeanette of Benicia; grandchildren, Josette Souza, Jennifer Laugharn, Gena Cardinale, Daniel Cary, Jammie Morgan and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday at Passalacqua Funeral Chapel in Benicia, with Deacon John Flanigan of St. Dominic's Church officiating. His ashes will be scattered at sea in the Carquinez Straits.

Richard Johnson

Jan. 26, 1996 -- Sept. 21, 2002

Richard Edward Johnson, 6, died Sept. 21 after an accidental drowning accident in Vacaville.

Mr. Johnson, also known as "Richie" was a Vallejo native and resident.

He was a member of American Canyon Baptist Church.

He loved baseball, drawing and NASCAR, his favorite NASCAR driver was Jeff Gordon.

Mr.  Johnson is survived by his parents, Eugene and Debra of Vallejo; grandparents, Russell and Rosa of Spain; Richard and Judy  White of Las Vegas; great-grandmother, Viola Schafer of Grass Valley; sisters, Rosa and Carole; brothers, Gregory of Vallejo; Eugene II of Vacaville; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral will be held 1 p.m., Sept. 27 at American Canyon Baptist Church, 2 Andrews Road in American Canyon. Visitation will be held before the funeral beginning at noon at the church. Service will be officiated by Pastor Mel Stout of American Canyon Baptist Church.

Arrangements made by Struble Family Funeral Care, Vallejo.

Contributions may be made to the American Canyon Baptist Church in memory of Richard Johnson.

Tarri Tanaka

Dec. 30, 1952 -- Nov. 22, 2002

Tarri Tanaka, 49, died Nov. 22 at a local hospital after a short illness.

Born in Milwaukee, she had been a Vallejo resident 24 years.

Mrs. Tanaka was a homemaker. She was a member of Church on the Hill and founder of Cornerstone Equestrian Center in Vallejo.

Mrs. Tanaka is survived by her husband, Steve of Vallejo; daughters, Leilani and Trisha both of Vallejo; son, Jason of Vallejo; and her sister, Dee Dee Smith of Fremont.

A memorial will be held at 4 p.m., Nov. 29 at Skyview Funeral Chapel in Vallejo, with the Rev. Scott Peterson of Church on the Hill of Vallejo officiating. Private inurnment.

Contributions may be made to Cornerstone Equestrian Center, 145 Plaza Dr., Suite 200-400, Vallejo,  Calif. 94591.
