Mary Carson

Jan. 11, 1908 -- Nov. 21, 2002

Mary L. Carson, 94, of Vallejo, died Thursday.

She was an avid bridge player.

She is survived by her son, Donald of Rodeo; grandchildren, Craig and Paulette of Antioch; Scott and Debbie of Capitola and two great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 22 at her home in Vallejo.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Guild Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael.

Joseph Hetzer

(March 5, 1917 - April 16, 2001)

Joseph P. Hetzer, 84, died Monday at a local hospital following a short illness.

Mr. Hetzer was born in New York and was a Vallejo resident. He was a Vallejo police officer for seven years and then worked in the Water Treatment Plant for the City of Vallejo until his retirement in 1980. Mr. Hetzer served in the Army during World War II and retired as a Staff Sergeant. He was a 50-year member of the Four Square Church.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Ellen of Vallejo; daughters, Esther (Bill)  Jackson of Bend, Oreg. and Rose (Richard) Hernandez of Ontario; son, Charlie (Leslie) of Redding; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial, 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pentocostal Word of Life Church, Vallejo, with Tim Klaiber officiating. Private inurnment. Arrangements by Twin Chapels Mortuary, Vallejo.

Isabel Coughlan

(Dec. 11, 1918 -June 12, 2001)

Isabel Alice Coughlan, 82, died Tuesday at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center-Vallejo after a brief illness.

Mrs. Coughlan was born in Bethlehem, Pa. and was a Vallejo resident. She was employed as a stenography trainer at Mare Island for four years and retired in 1942. Mrs. Coughlan was a member of Vallejo Women's Club, Vallejo Womens Golf Club, Propeller Club, and was a 63-year member of the Eastern Star #278. She enjoyed sewing, bridge, gardening, golfing, and was an avid reader.

She was preceded in death by husband, Mervyn Sr.

Survivors include sons, Mervyn (Doris) Jr. of Concord and Harry (Linda) of Vallejo; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

No formal services will be held. Private inurnment at Sunrise Cemetery, Vallejo. Arrangements by Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home, Vallejo.

Arnold Jentgen

(Feb. 1, 1927 -- Feb. 2, 2002)

Arnold E. Jentgen, 75, died Saturday, Feb. 2, at David Grant Medical Center after a short illness.

Mr. Jentgen was born in Pilot Point,  Texas, and was a Fairfield resident for 35 years. He served in the Navy for one year during World War II aboard the USS Elden, and then served another 20 years in the Air Force as an aircraft maintenance man. Mr. Jentgen was a Master Sgt. when he retired in 1976, and was a member of The Knights of Columbus for 45 years.

Survivors are wife, Bernadette of Fairfield; sons, Eric (Karen) of Suisun, David (Marisa) of Vacaville, and Anthony (Brandi) of Roseville; and grandchildren, Tyler of Suisun, Alexia and Jarrod of Vacaville, and Peyton of Roseville.

Memorial at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Fairfield, with Fr. Sebastian Meyer officiating. Private inurnment. Arrangements by Fairfield Funeral Home, Fairfield.

Jesse Johnson

(Jan. 10, 1931 -- Feb. 27, 2002)

Jesse Frank Johnson, 71, died Wednesday at home.

A native of Albany, Ga., Mr.  Johnson served 20 years in the Navy and retired in 1979 in Vallejo. He then began a 20-year career in the U.S. Post Office, and retired in 1991.

Survivors are wife, Charlotte, of Vallejo; children, Nicole Watterson of Vacaville, Jennifer Tatum of Fairfield, Joel Tatum of Vallejo and Jonathan of Vallejo; grandchild, Joshua Watterson of Vacaville and other family.

A private ceremony will be held by the Neptune Society at 9 a.m. Saturday, where his last wish to be buried at sea will be carried out.

Ruth Wood

Oct. 11, 1915 -- May 25, 2002

Ruth Christine Wood, 86, died Saturday at her stepdaughters home in Sacramento, after a long illness.

She was born in Sirocco, Ky., and was a Benicia resident 45 years. Mrs. Wood was owner and operator of Legion Cleaners for 40 years. She was a member of O.E.S, Vallejo Chapter No. 278 and of the  White Shine of Jerusalem.

Mrs. Wood is survived by her husband, Richard of Vallejo; stepdaughter, Cheryl Hansen of Sacramento; stepsons, Richard Jr. and Johnnie both of Sacramento; Victor of Colorado; and numerous grandchildren.

A memorial will be held 11 a.m., May 31 at the Masonic Temple in Vallejo. Inurnment at Skyview Memorial Lawn, Vallejo.

Arrangements made by Skyview Memorial Lawn, Vallejo.

Earl Moscrop

Sept. 6, 1928 -- Sept. 15, 2002

Earl Moscrop, 74, died at home after a long illness.

Born in Oakland, he was a current resident of Vallejo.

Mr. Moscrop worked as a truck driver for 30 years. He was also employed at the Vallejo Fire Department for 10 years, leaving the department at the rank of lieutenant.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Moscrop was an avid sports fan.

Survivors include his longtime companion, Nora Silva of Vallejo; stepdaughter, Ramona Azure-Wilson of Vallejo; and two nieces of San Diego and Hawaii.

At his request no services will be held. Private inurnment.

Arrangements under the direction of Struble Family Funeral Services, Vallejo.
