Elsie Hunter

May 9, 1909 -- Sept. 30, 2002

Elsie Hunter, 93, died Sept. 30 at home after a long illness.

Hunter was born in Ogden, Utah and was a Vallejo resident for 20 years.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her daughters, Betty Jean Barger of Ceres; Dona May Lee of Hayward; and Marcha Ann Lighthill of Glendale, Ariz.; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Visitation will be held 1 to 3 p.m. October 8 at Skyview Funeral Chapel with a 3 p.m. graveside service will at Skyview Memorial Lawn. Burial will follow.

James Davis

Feb. 17, 1934 -- Nov. 17, 2002

James Felix Davis, Sr., 68, died at home Nov. 17 after a long illness.

Born in Athens, Ala., Mr. Davis moved from Michigan City, Ind., to Vallejo five months ago to be near his children.

For 30 years Mr. Davis owned and operated J & D Trucking in Michigan City, Ind., until retiring in 2001.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Truckers Association, both in Indiana.

Mr. Davis was an avid fisherman who loved to garden, and enjoyed animals and music, especially blues and jazz. He was also a new Raiders fan.

Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel.

Survivors include his wife, Dolly of Vallejo; daughters, Gina (Lionel) Bohanon of Fairfield; Vickie of Benicia; and Latoya (Jerome) Grinston of Vacaville; sons, James, Jr. (Barbara) and Timothy Lyle both of Vallejo; sister, Christine Banks of Chicago, Ill.; stepsisters, Mary and Patricia both of Ohio; his brother, Edison of  Washington, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a quiet hour at 7 p.m., Nov. 21 at Colonial Chapels, Vallejo. Services will also be held 2 p.m., Nov. 22 at Colonial Chapels, with the Rev. Ollis Carver, Jr. of Friendship Baptist Church officiating. Burial at Skyview Memorial Lawn, Vallejo.

Debra Coughran

July 27, 1960 -- March 23, 2003

Debra "Debbi" Marie Ficarra Coughran, 42, died in Modesto after a long and valiant fight with cancer.

She was born in New London, Connecticut, to Lillian LeVerne Stoddard Ficarra and Leonard Paul Ficarra, Sr. She moved to Fairfield with her family in 1967, where she attended Armijo High School and moved to Modesto in 1991.

Mrs. Coughran worked at Mare Island Shipyard in Vallejo for several years prior to its closure and also worked in the food service department of the Modesto City School District.

She was an active member of the MOMs Club of Modesto. Until her illness, she was also very active in many different "PrintPro" clubs throughout the Internet.

She was preceded in death by both her parents.

Mrs. Coughran is survived by her loving husband, Douglas of Modesto; her daughter, Kaitlyn of Modesto; her sons, Joseph of Modesto; and Nicolaj Gibb of Modesto; her brothers, James of Daly City; Leonard, Jr. of Midvale, Utah; Michael of Crockett; her sister, Teresa of Vallejo; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at noon April 5 at Davis Park in Modesto. Her ashes will be scattered at a private family ceremony at a later date.

In Lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Debbi's honor to the American Cancer Society or the MOMs' Club of Modesto.

Priscillana Poblete

(Oct. 14, 1920 - April 21, 2001)

Priscillana T. Poblete, 81, died Saturday at NorthBay Medical Center following short illness.

Mrs. Poblete was born in the Philippines and was a Fairfield resident for eight years. She was a homemaker and a member of Senior Citizens Club in Vallejo.

Survivors include daughters, Lourdes Stricker of Vallejo and Mary Mae Mesias and Teresita Lewis of Guam; sons, Gregory and Emmanuel of Fairfield, and Fortunato, Vincent and Antonio, all of Guam; two sisters in the Philippines; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services in the Philippines are pending. Burial in the Philippines. Arrangements by Fairfield Funeral Home.

Edward Blake

(Sept. 5, 1950-June 11, 2001)

Edward Franklin Blake, 50, died Monday at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center-Vallejo after a brief illness.

Mr. Blake, commonly known as "Ed," was born in Fresno and was a Vallejo resident. He was employed for one year at London House and four years at Heart of Napa. Mr. Blake was a Vietnam veteran, a member of Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, and served as an assistant pastor at his church. He enjoyed Bible Study.

Survivors include wife, Gail R.; daughters, Stacey M. Stuart and Jonni A. (Jeremy E.) Coffer; parents, Merion F. and Edna Mae; sisters, Carla Johnson, Cindy Gravely, and Tammera Blake-Heiberger; and two grandchildren.

Memorial, 1 p.m. Saturday at Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, Vallejo, with Pastor Randy Robertson officiating. Burial follows.

Andrea DeLaCerna

(Feb. 4, 1912 - Aug. 3, 2001)

Andrea Yulo DeLaCerna, 89, died at home following a long illness.

Born in the Philippines, she had been a resident of Vallejo for 63 years. She was a homemaker. Mrs. DeLaCerna was a member of St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church and the Maria Clara Lodge of the Dimasalang Association.

Survivors include her husband, Samson of Vallejo; sons, Don (Trudye) of Pittsburg; Sammy (Joline) of Vallejo; grandchildren, Darlene Garcia, Debbie, Donald Jr., Vincent and Dante; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday and Tuesday from 4 to 9 p.m., with a vigil service beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Colonial Chapels, Vallejo. Mass of Christian burial Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Basil's Catholic Church, Vallejo. Burial will be at Valley of Temple, Kaneohe, Hawaii.

Puella Blueford

(Sept. 9, 1933 -- Nov. 13, 2001)

Puella W. "Mama P" Blueford, 68, died Tuesday at NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield.

Ms. Blueford was born in Severn, N.C., and was a Suisun resident who was self-employed as owner of Rainbow's End Resident Care Home for 20 years. She also worked at Napa State Hospital for 24 years retiring in 1985.

Ms. Blueford was a member of True Love Baptist Church in Fairfield where she was a coordinator; past matron of Fidelus Chapter No. 19; past most ancient matron of Harmony Court No. 18; member of Daughters of Isis; Alloma Court No. 198; Veritas Assembly No. 327 and a participant in the Shares program.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Juanita Warren.

Survivors include daughters, Erna Watson-Gordon of Suisun; Melba-Jean Nears of Fairfield; Adrienne Cunningham of Suisun; daughters in-law, Caryn of Fairfield; Pia of Sacramento; sons, Kevin of Sacramento; Kurt of Fairfield; son-in-law, Lenon Nears Jr. of Fairfield; sister, Sheila Thomas of Severn, N.C.; brother, Arthur Warren of Baltimore; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation Sunday, 3 to 9 p.m. at Cooley & Riolo Mortuary, Inc. in Vallejo. A funeral will be held Monday, 11 a.m. at Word of Faith Christian Center, 650 Parker Road in Fairfield. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Cemetery in Vallejo, services will be officiated by the Rev. James Ray.

Donations may be made to the Lupus Foundation.
