MANNING, LOIS M. 87, of Orangevale, CA, died Friday, October 19, 2001. Born in Portland, Oregon, she lived in Salt Lake City, Utah before moving to CA. She was a volunteer for Mercy San Juan Hospital and had worked for the Hilton Hotel chain. She married R.V. Manning in 1935. She is survived by daughter Patricia Gayle Manning of Las Vegas, NV, Michael V. Manning of Mesa, AZ, grandsons Michael Castner of Los Angeles, CA and Allen Manning of London, England, granddaughter Amy Manning of Pittsburg, PA and sisters Ruth Strauss of Orangevale, CA and Mary Ellen Jacobson of Smithfield, Utah. Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of her life on Saturday, October 27, 2001, at 1PM at Mercy San Juan Hospital Chapel, 6501 Coyle Ave., Carmichael, CA. McBRIEN, JASPER PAUL Born January 30, 1917. Passed away October 19, 2001 in the comforts of his home. He has gone to join his wife Gladys in Paradise, who preceded him in death 18 months ago. He is survived by his children Rick McBrien (Lynn), Janice McBrien, Loretta Menne (Steve), four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, his brother Quill, his sister Evadna and many others that were privileged to know and love him. Visitation will be Thursday, October 25th, 4-7PM. Services will be held Friday,October 26th, 10AM, at Russ Monroe's Village Chapel, 7960 Winding Way, Fair Oaks.

McDANIEL, JUSTICE Born November 4, 1928; peacefully passed away October 20, 2001 at the age of 72 in Rancho Cordova. He was the beloved husband of Atsuko McDaniel. Loving father to daughters Sandra Bonner and her husband Rick Bonner and Twila Goedrich. Devoted grandfather to Michelle Bonner and Desiree Bonner. He is also survived by brothers Richard, David, and Bruce; sisters Ruth, Joyce, and Linda. Preceding him in death was brother Daly and sisters Aileen, EmaJean and Iva June. Justice retired from the US Marine Corp in 1966 and again from the Sacramento Army Depot in 1995. He loved the ocean and fishing. Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing Wed., October 24th from 12-7:00 pm at NICOLETTI, CULJIS & HERBERGER, 5401 Folsom Blvd, and to attend Graveside Services, Thurs. Oct. 25th at 1:00 pm at Mt. Vernon Memorial Park, 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks, CA.

McDONALD, MICHAEL ROBERT Born March 16, 1939 in Stockton, California. Passed away October 22, 2001 in Sacramento, California. Loving husband of Nancy. Cherished father of Robert, Tim & Joanie. Adored grandfather of Donnie Adams, Christopher Nicholson, Tiffany Frazier, Timmy, Jessica, Amy, Bradley & Mikey Mc Donald & Justin Smitley. He is also survived by brother, Bill McDonald, sister, Patricia Gentile and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his brother, James R. Jr. and sister, Peggy Couser. Mike retired from the State of California Department of Transportation and Water Resources Control Board after 35 years of service. He will be greatly missed. Friends and family are invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, 4- 8PM and Thursday, 10AM- 8PM and Funeral Services on Friday, October 26, 2001 at 2PM at South East Lawn, 9189 East Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove, CA. McLANAHAN, AGNES Aggie passed away peacefully on Oct. 7, 2001. She was born in Oakland, CA on Oct. 17, 1920 to immigrant parents from Scotland and Ireland. She was married to Mac in 1942. In 1945 they built their home in the Arden area of Sacramento in which they lived happily until Mac preceded Aggie in death 4 months ago. Aggie is survived by 3 daughters, Nancy, Pat and Barb; and a son, Bob. She also leaves eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A memorial celebration of her life will be held Friday, Oct. 26 at 11 am in the Carmichael Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to a charity of your choice.

MEYER-ROJAS, ANN LOUISE Who was affectionately referred by her family as "Annie Pooh" passed suddenly from this earth into Heaven on October 19, 2001. Born May 3, 1963, at the young age of 38. She was a lifelong resident of Sacramento. She is survived by her husband Charles Rojas and her loving parents; Marilyn and Gerard Meyer of Stayton, OR; sisters Judy Meyer-Clark of Half Moon Bay, Peggy Meyer- Jones of Sacramento, Theresa Meyer-Moseley of Rancho Cordova, brothers Michael Meyer of Pacifica and Robert Meyer of Rancho Cordova; nephews, Matthew Jones, Jason Jones, Justin Meyer, Stuart Barton and niece Elizabeth Moseley. She also leaves countless family and friends. She will be remembered by her gracious smile, the sparkle in her eyes, and her warmth. Memorial services Friday, October 26, 2001, at 11AM held at St. John Vianney Parish, 10497 Coloma Road, Rancho Cordova, CA. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Weave or Loaves & Fishes.

MILLER, MARY E. (BOLEY) Born in Prosser, WA, on 5/24/19, passed away on 10/17/01, in Citrus Heights, CA. Survived by brother Robert Boley, and sisters Charlotte Morton, Loda Mae Dobbins, Helen Eaton and Janet Jopson. Sister Virginia Carlsberg passed away in September, and her daughter Barbara Wion passed away in July. She leaves three children, Norma Milligan, Penney Spear and Augustin (Marty) Zuniga, 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Mary volunteered with Senior Gleaners for many years and was a member of COSO in Sacramento area. There will be no services and memorial donations may be made in Mary's name to the "Heather Marie Foundation", c/o River City Bank, 2485 Natomas Park Dr., Sacramento, CA 95833.

ALLISON, RALPH ELLSWORTH Of Redding, CA, passed away October 16, 2001, age 94. Born May 16, 1907 in Clay County, South Dakota. He was an educator, Junior High level for 40 years in the Sacramento and Los Angeles areas. Survived by wife, Elizabeth of Redding, CA; son, Duane of Chester, CA; daughter, Carol Hodge of Redding, CA; sister, Arvilla Nilsen of Upland, CA; 4 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter. Graveside service Sat., Oct. 20, 2001 at 1:00pm at Chester Cemetery, Chester, CA, Pastor Rodd BuBord officiating.

ARELLANO, TERESA In Sacramento October 16, 2001. Beloved wife of Pedro Arellano and loving mother of Xochitl Arellano, Lucero Arellan, and Rocio Arellano-Merrill. BOOZER, SHIRLEY CASTNER "SHRYL" Passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 15, 2001 at the age of 71. Survived by four children and their spouses, Elizabeth and Brian Tomasin, Forrest and Beth Boozer, Brian Boozer and Alice and Richard Warchol. Loving grandmother to Brendan, Brianna and Mason. Beloved sister to James Lorrell Castner, Rosemary Tibbs and Gretchen and Josie Castner. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, sister and brother-in-laws who love her very much. Shirley grew up in Napa, the youngest of six children. She attended U.C. Berkeley and graduated from CSU Sacramento with an education degree. Shirley loved to square dance, garden and cook. She was extremely generous and had a big heart. She leaves behind many good friends. She was a member of LARCS, GALS and the Mavericks Square Dance Club. COOK, JUDITH G. Passed away in Sacramento on October 16, 2001 at the age of 53. Her family draws peace from the knowledge that she joins her beloved husband Gordon William Cook in God's heavenly kingdom. She is survived by her loving children Chere and Jeremy Tapia, Cynthia, Christina, and Casey Cook. Cherished daughter of Helen and Keith Holcomb. Beloved sister and aunt to Jon, Susie, Michael, Michelle and Mitchell Holcomb; Jean, Mike, Sarah and Jordan Orbanosky; Janine, Robert, Adam, Amanda, Alisha, Alex, Amy, Annie and Austin Weber; Carol and Robert Coker Jr. and Cameron Schreiter. Judy was also the devoted grandmother of Jacob Gordon Tapia. Friends are invited to attend memorial services Saturday, October 20, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at Newcastle Cemetery. COVINGTON, ALICE R. In Carmichael, on 10/16/01, age 74. Alice was pre-deceased by her husband, George, in 1990. She leaves twin daughters Carol of Sacramento, and Claudia of Tacoma,  Washington, and many dear friends. Pursuant to her request, no services will be held. EMERY, RICHARD ALBERT Mr. Emery died Thursday, October 18, 2001, at Roanoke, Alabama. Funeral services for Mr. Richard Albert Emery, age 74, of Wedowee, AL will be held Saturday, October 20, 2001, at 2:00 PM from Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Bros. Ricky Emery, Derick Farr and Raymond Sorrells officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens, Roanoake, AL. A 40-year Randolph County resident, Mr. Emery was a native of Longview,  Washington, born September 13, 1927, son of Henry Marion and Mary Large Emery; he spent his childhood in California. He was a WWII Navy veteran and a Purple Heart recipient. He had retired from the Alabama Department of Transportation and was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Geneva Abner Emery of Wedowee; a son and daughter-in-law, Ricky & Bonnie Emery of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Jessica Emery, John Emery and Allison Emery of Roanoke; one sister, Ruth Powell of Sacramento, CA.; and several nieces & nephews. The family will be receiving friends at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM, Friday, October 19th. Mr. Emery will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning at 1:00 PM on Saturday. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Quattlebaum Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

FETTY, B. ALLINE Born April 9th, 1917 in Sulphur Springs TX, entered into rest peacefully at home on October 12, 2001 at the age of 84. Most recently she was a resident of Pinebrook Mobile Home Park in Folsom and prior to moving she was a 40 year resident of San Jose, Ca. Alline is survived by her sons James, his wife Tessa and Phillip, his wife Laurie. She was a loving grandmother of Annette, Kenny, Robert, Nathan, and Scott and a very devoted friend to Karen Ellis of Modesto. She will be truly missed by many. Friends are welcomed to attend her funeral services at Price Funeral Home, 6335 Sunrise Blvd in Citrus Heights at 11 am on Saturday October 20, 2001.

GARCIA, ANITA MARIE Embraced by God, October 16, 2001, in Walnut Creek, California. Beloved wife of the late John Manuel Garcia; Loving mother of Joanne Foley; Bishop Richard J. Garcia, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Sacramento, and William Garcia; Mother-in-law of Daniel Foley and Evelyn Garcia; dear grandmother of five, great grandmother of eight. A native of Autlan, Jalisco Mexico. Retired employee of Macy's, San Francisco. Friends may visit after 12:00 p.m. (Noon) Sunday and are invited to attend the funeral service also on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Valente Marini Perata & Co., 4840 Mission St., S.F., then to the Church of the Epiphany, 845 Vienna Street, S.F., where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3:00 p.m. Committal services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. GARCIA, ARTHUR Arthur with peace in his heart and soul left his family to be with our Heavenly Father on October 14, 2001. Husband of Jamie Garcia; father of Tony, Erik, Marco, Julie, Gina, and Elizabeth; brother of Albert, Carol, Helen, Mary, Joe, Edward, and Thomas; grandfather of Stephen, Jessica, Chad, Joshua, Britny, Brad, Kade, Andrew, and Lauren. A native of Roswell, New Mexico, aged 63 years. Arthur was a talented carpenter who enjoyed boating. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Monday, October 22nd at 1:00 P.M. at Oak Hills Church, Blue Ravine Road and Oak Avenue Parkway, Folsom. GEIL, JON W. Jon Geil died of lung cancer surrounded by friends and family on Tuesday, October 16th. Jon was born in Oroville on November 30, 1934, to Opal and Wain Wright Geil, and was raised in Quincy and Keddie, California where he loved exploring the mountains and rivers. He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Merry Norris Geil, his son, Erik Geil, daughter, Ellen Geil Anderson, daughter-in-law, Jennie Geil, son-in- law, Michael Anderson, and grandchildren, Clayton and Marin Anderson. Jon was a graduate of Quincy Junior/ Senior High School, Chico State College, and received his Masters from San Jose State College. He taught elementary school in the San Juan Unified School District for over 30 years. Jon touched the lives and helped build the future for many young people throughout his career, many who have remained in contact with him over the years. In later years, his passion for driving and rebuilding older Porsches (356 models) gave him great pleasure. He took pride in maintaining and improving his home and garden, and delighted in his grandchildren. A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Geil home on Saturday, October 20th at 1pm. All are welcome to attend. HALSELL, DALE In Sacramento, October 15, 2001. Born in Galva, IL., June 1, 1917. A resident of Sacramento for 59 yr. An honorary member of the Sheriff's Squadron. Served in both the USAF and the RAF. Husband & sweetheart of Norma Halsell for 58 yr. Father of Jan Anderson, Tammy Smithson & Lynn Pulley. Also survived by seven grandchildren & three great grandchildren. HAYSE, ORVAL FLOYD Born December 14, 1919 in Wewoka, OK. Departed this life October 15, 2001. He came to California in 1929, being raised in Watsonville. Served in the US Navy in WWII, and a member of Carpenters' Local #586 for 50 years. After retirement he farmed with his sons in the Elk Grove area. He was an active member of Elk Grove Grange #86 and the Florin Historical Society, and was volunteer caretaker of the Matthew Kilgore Cemetery. Beloved husband of 50 years to Peggy Hayse. Loving father of Floyd Richard Hayse (Tracy) of Dallas, TX, and John Hayse of Florin, CA. Loving grandfather of Seth (Heather) of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, and Aaron & Logan of Dallas, TX. Preceded in death by son Dennis Hayse, mother Eula Mills, and brothers Leonard Hayse and Claude Mulaney. Survived by sister Faye Vickers of Payette, ID, and many nieces and nephews. Born Nov. 17, 1919 in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Mel served with the 147th Field Artillery in WWII. Retired from the Bureau of Reclamation and was a member of the Elks Lodge # 2003. MITCHELL, MAE A. Passed away in Sacramento on October 15, 2001, at the age of 90. Beloved wife of Glenn Mitchell for over 69 years. Loving mother of Glennys L. Mellies and Cynthia Anderson and her husband Paul Roberts. Cherished sister of Jeanette Clarke and her husband Russell and Alice Whittaker. Preceded in death by her grandson Richard Leon Mellies, II. A native of Superior, Wisconsin and a resident of Sacramento for 65 years. She was High School Valedictorian in Superior, Wisconsin and was a member of Senior Gleaners, AARP and SIRS. At the request of the deceased no services will be held. Interment to be at South East Lawn Memorial Park, Elk Grove, CA.

NEUBERT, KATHLEEN MARY In Sacramento, October 16, 2001. A native of Sparta, Wisconsin, Age 54 years. Beloved wife of Jon Neubert. Mother of Kelly Neubert and Brian Caskey. Grandmother of Amanda, Sierra, John Michael, and Slone Caskey. Daughter of Donald & Betty Biel. Sister of Jeffrey and Michael Biel and Mary Ellen Taskenan. Kathy was an active tennis player and member of the Rancho Murieta Golf Club. Friends are invited to attend Visitation Saturay Oct. 20, 2001 from 9 to 10 a.m. at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 14673 Cantora Way, Rancho Murieta, and Mass of Christian Burial Sat. Oct. 20, 2001 at 10 a.m., also at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church. Interment is at the Vincent De Paul Cemetery in Rancho Murieta. Donations can be sent to The Sacramento Food Bank. Kathy's final year was especially blessed by the reuniting to her son and grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by family and friends.

ORTEGA, Michael Anthony In Sacramento on Oct. 15, 2001. Survived by loving son, Zachary Ortega; father, Clarence Ortega; brothers, Clarence, Jeffrey and Phillip Ortega, also many Aunts, Uncles and Friends. Predeceased by his mother Loretta Ortega. A native of Sacramento, CA, age 45. Graduated from Grant High School in 1974. Friends and family are invited for Visitation Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, from 12 Noon to 8PM and are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service on Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at 1PM, both at the North Sacramento Funeral Home, 725 El Camino Ave., Sacramento. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery.
