James Ray Barnett Sr.

Funeral services with military honors for James Ray Barnett Sr., 69, of Fairfield will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Chapel Center at Travis Air Force Base.

The Rev. Michael Downey will officiate.

Burial will be in San Joaquin National Cemetery in Gustine.

Born Aug. 14, 1928, in Greenwood, Miss., Mr. Barnett died April 3, 1998, in NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield after a short illness.

He lived in the Fairfield area 26 years.

He was a 24-year Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. He retired as a senior master sargeant and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Mr. Barnett is survived by his wife, Alice; sons, Steven of Susanville, David of Santa Barbara, Joe of Fairfield, James Jr. of Portland, Ore., and Don of Pittsburg; daughters, Gloria Thorne of Virginia and Joann Maloney of Massachusetts; sisters, Mary Womack, Linda Lou Barley and Nanny Sue Bronson, all of Mississippi, and Mildred Williams of Michigan.

Also, brothers, Jeffrie Jr. of Mississippi, Colbert of  Texas and Charles of Mississippi; and 11 grandchildren.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel.

Arrangements are by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Dale Rodney Demars

A memorial service for Dale Rodney Demars, 44, of Fairfield will be 2 p.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ward 2, in Fairfield.

Bishop Mark LeCheminant will preside.

Burial will be private.

Born Feb. 13, 1954, in Lockbourne, Ohio, Mr. Demars died April 4, 1998, in Fairfield after a long illness.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He managed a convenience store in Hampton, N.H., and a fast-food restaurant in Fairfield. He also was a hospital lab technician both in Fairfield and Sacramento.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fairfield.

He loved the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, scuba diving and traveling.

He is survived by his daughter, Justine Demars of Federal Way, Wash.; sisters, Cathy Thompson of West Linn, Ore., Cynthia Morris of Fairfield and Mary Krolak of Roseville; parents, Rodney and Althea Demars of Fairfield; grandson, Bryce Roman of Federal Way, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

Rose Marie Larsen

A rosary will be held for Rose Marie Larsen, 79, of San Jose from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield. The Rev. Michael Downey will officiate.

A Catholic vigil service also will be held at 6 p.m.

Born June 2, 1918, in San Jose, Mrs. Larsen died April 2, 1998, in Fairfield.

She was a lifelong San Jose resident. She was a homemaker and liked to travel and garden. She also was an avid San Francisco Giants fan.

She belonged to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in San Jose.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Barbara Larsen of Fairfield; sister, Josephine Ban of Gridley; brother, Leonard Sciortino of Shasta; grandchildren, Shannon Costanza of Lake Tahoe, Kelly Larsen of San Jose and Sean Larsen of Reno; great-granddaughter, Austin Costanza of Lake Tahoe.

Gordon Alexander MacDonald

Funeral services for Gordon Alexander MacDonald, 77, of Vacaville have been held.

Burial was in Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno.

Born May 15, 1920, in Boston, Mr. MacDonald died Jan. 15, 1998, in the Veterans Medical Center in San Francisco after a long illness.

Mr. MacDonald moved to Vacaville in 1968 and was the former owner of Vacaville Pool Service. He was also a member of the Vacaville Chamber of Commerce. Mr. MacDonald was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps as a sergeant.

Mr. MacDonald is survived by his brother, Rod of San Francisco; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jo and Houston Spicer of Vacaville; sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Richard Forbes of Concord, N.C.; sister, Grace Meg of Boulder,  Colo.; and longtime friends, Emory Davis, Phyllis Peters and Bobbie Tubbs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roderick and Ida.

Mary Louise Maxwell

Private funeral services for Mary Louise Maxwell, 69, of Fairfield will be held today.

A burial service will be private.

Born Jan. 23, 1929, in Whittier, Mrs. Maxwell died April 4, 1998, at Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa after a brief illness.

A retired registered nurse at Queen of the Valley Hospital, she documented her family's genealogy and made dolls.

She was also active in the American Arthritis Association, the Transverse Myelitis Association and the Restless Legs Syndrome Association.

Mrs. Maxwell and her husband of 50 years took many trips in support of her hobbies.

She is survived by her husband, Bert Maxwell of Fairfield; daughter, Sandy Czapla of Fairfield; sister, Dorothy Gray of Southern California; grandsons, Eric Rogers of San Francisco and Brian Rogers of Travis Air Force Base; and great-grandson, Austin Rogers of Travis.

Mrs. Maxwell was preceded in death by her son, Brian D. Maxwell and her daughter, Janet L. Maxwell.

She will be buried next to her children.

Edward H. 'Mac' McMillan

Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Edward H. "Mac" McMillan, 81, died in Tucson, Ariz.

At his request, no formal services were held.

Born June 19, 1916, in Vacaville, Lt. Col. McMillan died Feb. 28, 1998.

He graduated from Vacaville High School and soon after entered the Army Air Corps. He retired in 1969, after serving 28 years. He served during World War II and spent much of that time with a bomber group in England. He received recognition from the Russian government following a reconnaissance flight that ended on Russian soil.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty of Tucson; son, Larry of Las Cruces, N.M.; daughter, Pat Wallen of Dana Point; grandchildren, Brian and Tanya McMillan and Michelle and Karen Wallen; and cousins, Wally and Gene Brazelton of Vacaville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward H. and Effie Brazelton McMillan and sister, Olive M. "Polly" Dobbins.

Hortense F. O'Connor

Memorial services for Hortense F. O'Connor, 78, of Fairfield will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

The Rev. Michael Downey will officiate. Inurnment will be in Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Born Feb. 27, 1920, in Spencer, Mass., Mrs. O'Connor died April 4, 1998, in NorthBay Medical Center after a short illness.

She lived in Fairfield since 1953 and worked for 27 years as a secretary for the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District.

Mrs. O'Connor is survived by her daughter, Carol Davis of Vacaville; son, Richard of Sommersworth, N.H.; sisters, Mary Hamilton of Forestville, Conn., Gloria Siems of Melvindale, Mich., and Jacqueline McNally of Downington, Pa.; brother, Leo McMullen of Hampden, Mass.; and five grandchildren.

Arrangements are handled by Fairfield Funeral Home.

Shaun Patrick Pina

Private memorial services for Shaun Patrick Pina, 20, of Fairfield will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, 1850 W.  Texas St., Fairfield.

Stan Sanderson of the Church of Christ in Fairfield will officiate.

Pina died on April 2, 1998, in a shooting in Vacaville.

Born Feb. 23, 1978, in Oakland, Pina was a resident of Fairfield for 18 years.

He is survived by his mother, Carol Correia of Fairfield; father, Joseph Pina of Fairfield; brothers, Joseph Anthony Pina and Christopher Michael Pina, both of Fairfield; grandparents, Anthony and Barbara Correia of Richmond, and Jose and Margaret Pina of Salinas.

Sylvia L. Stayton

A Mass of Christian Burial for Sylvia L. Stayton, 64, of Vacaville will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

The Rev. Vincent O'Reilly will officiate. Burial will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Wednesday at McCune Garden Chapel.

Ms. Stayton died April 6, 1998, in Vacaville after a brief illness.

Born July 14, 1933, in Springfield, Ill., she moved to Vacaville in 1990. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and a prior member of the Saturday Club. She enjoyed her weekly bridge games.

Ms. Stayton is survived by her children, Layton, Jeffery and Cecily Damiano of Vacaville, and Mari-Alice Levinberg of Fremont; granchildren, Jennifer and Amy Boudreaux of Tracy, Ryan and Robin Damiano of Pinole, Darren Damiano of Vacaville and Tara Levinberg of Fremont; sister, Charlotte Smith of Chula Vista; and brother, Benny Stayton of Vacaville.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.

A memorial contribution may be made to the donor's choice.

Antonia J. Casaba

Funeral services for Antonia J. Casaba, 89, of Vacaville will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Vaca Hills Chapel.

Pastor Emiliano Valle Jr. of Faith Gospel Center in Vallejo will officiate. Burial in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery will be private.

Born March 25, 1909, in the Philippines, Mrs. Casaba died April 1, 1998, in David Grant Medical Center after a long illness.

Mrs. Casaba moved to Vacaville 20 years ago and was a housewife for 70 years. She was a member of Faith Gospel Center in Vallejo and the First Christian Church in Suisun.

Mrs. Casaba is survived by her sons, Luciano of Huntington Park, John of San Bruno and Jerry of Vacaville; daughters, Caring Fajayan of Reno and Betty Mendoza of Vacaville; sisters, Candelaria Clemena of San Francisco and Catalina Varian of the Philippines; 26 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday in Vaca Hills Chapel.

Lon Richard Hill

Memorial services have been held for Lon Richard Hill, 50, of Florence, Ore.

Born April 18, 1947, in Palo Alto, Mr. Hill died March 31, 1998, in Florence where he was living with his father.

Mr. Hill worked for Valley Road Oil and drove tanker trucks.

He is survived by his wife, Rita of Vacaville; son and daughter-in-law, John and Debbie; daughter, Leisa; grandchildren, Tyler and Melissa; father, Jim of Florence; brother, John; and sisters, Shirley and Bert.

Contributions may be made to a cancer organization.

Arrangements were handled by Burns Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home.

Ramon Mondejar Quirante

A Catholic Prayer Service for Ramon Mondejar Quirante, 74, of Fairfield will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Burial will be in Cebu City, Philippine Islands.

The Rev. Luciano Valenzuela will officiate.

Born Sept. 4, 1923, in Dumanjug, Cebu, the Philippines, Mr. Quirante died April 6, 1998, in David Grant Medical Center after a short illness.

He worked at Travis Air Force Base in civil service in the commissary for 11 years. He was a member of the United Bisayan Association in Fairfield, and Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fairfield.

He lived in Fairfield 12 years.

Mr. Quirante is survived by his wife, Dading; daughters, Aia Wilson of San Jose, Rene Malic of Memphis, Tenn., and Opahelia Cariquitan of Michigan; sons, Oscar of Cebu City, Capt. Job of Manila, Philippine Islands, and Ferdinand of San Pablo, the Philippines; sisters, Jovita Rama and Saturina Rosales, of Cebu City and Purificacion Enad, Bukidnon, Philippine Islands; brothers, Elpido, Demetrio and Marciano, all of Cebu City, and Francisco of Cagayandeloro, Philippine Islands; 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Rosary will be 7 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Mark G. Rechtfertig

A memorial service for Mark G. Rechtfertig, 77, of Vacaville will be 1 p.m. Friday at McCune Garden Chapel. The Rev. Leroy Gainey of First Baptist Church will preside. Inurnment will be private.

Born Jan. 5, 1921, in Waterloo, Iowa, Mr. Rechtfertig died April 6, 1998, in Fairfield after a long illness. He was a 26-year resident of Solano County.

He worked for 13 years for the Credit Bureau of Fairfield and five years for the Solano County Sheriff's Office as a process server. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

He loved fishing and hunting as well as gardening. He loved his home and family.

Mr. Rechtfertig is survived by his wife, Jackie of Vacaville; daughters, Laurel Kable of Sutter and Lynne Dea France of Winters; sons, Steven of Woodland and Bruce of Sacramento; and eight grandchildren.
