Tobias, Herbert,
Dated: 12/08/2004
Regina, SK
TOBIAS - Herbert Ludwig June 7, 1937 December 4, 2004. Predeceased by his father Ludwig Tobias; mother Minnie Brandt and stepfather Bill Brandt; sisters Evelyn Fink and Freda Kuntz. Born to Ludwig Tobias and Whilimina Leib in Regina, Saskatchewan. Herb grew up on a prairie farm near Vibank, Saskatchewan. Working the fields and caring for animals was his first love until he found his lifelong wife and soul mate of 46 years Jeanette. Herb left Vibank at the age of 16 to join the Saskatchewan Department of Highways where he excelled as he would throughout his life. Twenty-six years later he left the department as the Executive Director Assistant to the Deputy Minister. Always the innovator and hungering for a challenge he then moved into the position as Assistant to the warden at the Regina Provincial Correctional Centre where for two years he was acting warden in the absence of the warden. Back into government, Herb created two departments, S.A.I.L. Saskatchewan Aids to Independent Living and the Saskatchewan Office Supply Agency, then to a short term as Assistant to the Deputy Minister for the Department of Health. Now his entrepreneurial wings took flight and for the last 24 years assisted numerous start ups and inventions as recently as 3 months ago. Always the innovator he would take the task others were afraid to or had tried and failed and succeed. He brought products to international market, took companies to the public stock exchange and was active in real estate throughout his life. Herb's zest for life included a passion for restoring antique vehicles, Studabakers, later on, assembling a vast collection of Saskatchewan antique collectibles. He traveled extensively, and was always eager to try something new whether it be paragliding, camping on top of a mountain or driving a motorcycle. Always employing a "Go for it and Giv'er Attitude ", always the one friends would turn to for help to get out of a jam and always the first to pitch in when there was work to be done. Herb was and will continue to be an inspiration for all those who knew him. Following a vallant four year battle with cancer (that doctors predicted he might make it a year). Herb passed away quietly with his wife at his side in Langley, B.C. where they have been residing. Together with Jeanette, Herb is survived by his sons Carmen and Marlin; daughter in-law Arden; grandsons Darien and Faro; brother Ernest; sister in-law Gisele, and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins that span the continent. "I'M FREE " Don't grieve for me: for now I am free. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, don't lenghten it now with undo grief. Lift up your heart and share with me. God wanted me now. He set me free. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2004 at 2:00 pm from the Valley View Funeral Home Chapel, 14660-72nd Avenue, Surrey, B.C.
