AGNIESZKA RUBIK (nee RAZNIAK) Peacefully on Sunday, September 12, 2004, Agnieszka Rubik passed away at St. Joseph's Personal Care Home at the age of 92. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 17, at 11:30 a.m., at Holy Ghost RC Church, 341 Selkirk Ave. Viewing will be held one half hour prior to the service. ALBERT SCHMIDT

ALBERT SCHMIDT (SMITH) Albert Schmidt passed away peacefully on Monday, September 13, 2004 at the Beausejour & District Hospital. He was born icon on June 23, 1920 in Green Bay, MB. Albert is survived by his brothers and sisters, Walter and wife Elaine, Beausejour; Herbert and wife Margery, Winnipeg; Lilly, Winnipeg; Anne Andrest, Winnipeg and Esther Bachman, Beausejour; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry Schmidt in 1961 and Emillie Schmidt in 1995; his brothers, Harry Schmidt in 1991, Bill Smith in 2004; and his sister Hilda Tittlemeir in 1991. Albert served in the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War, later working on the family farm in Green Oak until his retirement. He enjoyed farming and visiting with his friends. Upon his retirement, he moved into Armstrong Manor in Beausejour. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 16 at 2:00 p.m.at the Sobering Funeral Chapel, Beausejour, MB with Pastor Hugh Laidlaw officiating. Friends may view one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery, Green Bay. Special thanks to the home care staff who assisted Albert, especially Barbara, Catherine and Lorraine and to the staff of the Beausejour Health Centre. MARY SCOTT

MARY ADELE SCOTT Peacefully on Thursday, September 9, 2004, Mary Adele Scott (nee West) passed away after a tough battle with cancer. Left now with only her memory are her daughters, Lynne, Windi, Kathy, and her 10 grandchildren, her three great-grandchildren and the many many good friends who knew and loved her. She was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years Donald Gilchrist Scott also her brother Bonar. Mary was born icon and lived in Winnipeg most of her life, the later 40 years in Fort Garry. She spent many wonderful summers at Victoria Beach with family where she acted as Dad's crew on the Lazy E. Sailboat. She also loved the country, horses, and all animals. She grew up at West Acres, where the old farm house still stands on Muriel Street, and later enjoyed her parents hobby farm in Balmoral, MB. She will be remembered as the best mother and friend anyone could have. In her retirement years Mary rode her horses with her good friends and enjoyed her associates with the Broke 'n busted riders, with whom she camped along with her husband Don and her horsy friends. We will always remember her fun loving sense of humour and kind hearted nature. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 16 at St. Paul Anglican Church, 830 North Dr., Fort Garry. With the Rev. G. Woodcroft officiating. ANNE SMITH

ANNE ETHEL SMITH On Sunday, September 12, 2004. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her husband F. Hartley Smith M.D. in 1986 and three sisters and one brother. She is survived by her children, Carol Macoomb (Richard Macoomb M.D.), Frances Cholakis (Leo Cholakis), Brian Smith (Mavis Smith) and Margaret Corcoran (Terence Corcoran), 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and one brother and one sister. Mrs. Smith was a registered nurse having trained at the St. Boniface Hospital School of Nursing. She was a longtime member of Westminster United Church and was an Honorary Life Member of the McKinnon Guild of the Children's Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster United Church, Maryland and Westminster. Rev. Robert Campbell will officiate. JEAN SMITH

JEAN CHRISTIE SMITH (nee FORGIE) May 25, 1924 - September 10, 2004 Peacefully, with Joe at her side Jean passed away on September 10 at St. Boniface Hospital. Jean will be missed by her two sons, Norm and Allan and her two daughters-in-law, Sandy and Sue. Nicole, Joel, Heather, Cam, Mandy, Ainsley, Scott, Kristel, Josh and Scotty will all miss their Grandma. Maggie and Sophia who recently brought a sparkle to Great-Grandma's eyes will miss visiting her. Jean's brothers, Will and Jimmy wish her peace. Jean was born icon in Winnipeg and raised in Elmwood. She attended George V. and Lord Selkirk Schools. She married Joe, her one and only true love 61 years ago on July 21, 1943. They raised their family in St. Vital and remained there throughout their lives. Our family wishes to thank the staff of 7A South for their kindness and caring. If friends so desire donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or the Canadian Cancer Society. The immediate family will attend a celebration of Jean's life at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.

PAUL ST. GODARD 1926 - 2004 Peacefully, with his family by his side, on Saturday, September 11, 2004, Paul St. Godard passed away after a brief illness, at the DeSalaberry and District Health Centre in St. Pierre-Jolys, MB. Paul was born icon in Ste. Elizabeth, MB, on April 22, 1926. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 55 years, Denise (nee Trudel); his children, Renald (Judi), Lise (Alain Letendre), Marilyne (Roland Gosselin), Pauline (Richard Dubois) and Joanne (Richard Frechette); his 13 grandchildren, Ronald, Leanne, Peter, Caroline, Serge, Maurice, Natalie, Janelle, Julie, Roxanne, Veronique, Braden, Chloe; and seven great-grandchildren; his brothers, Armand (Yvette), Denis (Yvette), Aurele (Cindy), Roger (Marlyn) and Gilles; his sisters, Antoinette (late Amedee Marion), Liliane (Benoit Lambert), Yvette (Denis Brisson), Paulette (Alex Ross) and Gilberte (Orest Horbachewski); as well as the Trudel family. Paul was predeceased by his parents Napoleon and Marie-Louise (nee Peloquin); brothers, George (Marie), Henri (Jeannine) and Emile; one grandson Michael-Paul; two sisters-in-law, Leonna and Helene Trudel; as well as his mother and father-in-law Joseph and Cleophee Trudel. For 42 years Paul was employed with Beatrice Foods and retired 12 years ago in St. Malo, MB. The most important thing to Paul was spending time with his family and friends. The family extends special thanks to Dr. Strank and Dr. Duplessis, the staff at the DeSalaberry and District Health Centre, and to Father Joseph Choiselat. Funeral mass will be celebrated by Father Joseph Choiselat at the St. Malo Roman Catholic Church in St. Malo on Wednesday, September 15 at 2:00 p.m. Prayer service will begin at 1:30 p.m. The service will terminate at the church and cremation will follow. Private interment of Paul's cremated remains will take place in the St. Malo Parish Cemetery. KELLY STARR

KELLY STANLEY WALTER STARR JR. November 13, 2003- September 9, 2004 With deepest sorrow our little angel went home to join the Lord with his stepsister Vanessa. Kelly was born icon on November 13, 2003 at the Women's Hospital prematurely at 34 weeks. He spent the first two months in NICU ward, was transferred to the PICU for two weeks where he got his trach tube operation. After that he was transferred to PSCU at the Children's Hospital in Winnipeg. Kelly did come home but only for a short time. His dad and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the NICU, PICU and especially to PSCU staff for all the caring, loving support you all have shown us. Kelly Jr. Leaves to mourn in his loving memory his parents, Kelly Sr. and Kim Starr; his stepbrother Jessie; and his stepsister Petrina of Saskatoon, SK. His Godparents, Fred and Alma Smith of Winnipeg. Also, his grandparents, Stanley and Grace Starr of Sagkeeng First Nation, Walter and Dorthy Starr of Brokenhead First Nation; his uncles, aunts and extended family and friends. Wake services were held in Sagkeeng at his grandparents house, house No. M53, down the old road, starting on Saturday, September 11 to Sunday, September 12, Monday, September 13 our baby was taken to his resting place in Brokenhead First Nation, one night wake service was held at the Community Hall. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 14 at 2:00 p.m. in Brokenhead First Nation, with Rev. Nancy Bruyere officiating. Burial to follow at the Brokenhead Cemetery. Pallbearers are his uncles, Archie and Christopher Starr of Sagkeeng First Nation and Faron and Larry Starr of Brokenhead First Nation. We would also like to thank all the people who were there to support us, in our time of need. Especially to Dr. Kesselman who was there for our son from early morning to the time of his passing in the early evening. Also, thanks to Community Services Home Care Department. RICHARD RAYMOND STEWART Richard Raymond Stewart passed away in Brandon, MB on Monday, August 30, 2004. Richard was born icon in Vancouver, BC on January 2, 1949. He is survived by sons, Kirk, Mark, Dale (wife Christine and son Sebastian) and daughter Lesley. Richard is also survived by his birth mother Angie Lester and brother Randy and family all of San Diego, CA. He was predeceased by his wife Norma in 1998; and his parents, Doris and George Stewart in 1989. A private family service will be held. SUSAN DORIS TOEWS (nee PENNER) September 10, 1921 - September 9, 2004 Suddenly, but peacefully Susan Doris Toews of Woodhaven Manor in Steinbach, passed away at her residence. She was born icon to David and Maria (Peters) Penner of Lowe Farm. Susan married Jacob K. Toews on July 13, 1941. They were married for almost 62 years before he passed away in 2003. They had three children, Bernard, Barbara and Margaret. She is survived by daughters, Barbara (Bob) Walker of Edmonton, AB and Margie (Zave) Hera of Winnipeg; daughter-in-law Dianne Toews of Winkler; grandchildren, Sherri (Rick) Adams of Morden, Rob (Elsie) Toews of Winkler, and Maya Hera and Evan Hera of Winnipeg; great-grandchildren, Jessie and Libby Adams of Morden and Nicolas and Jackson Toews of Winkler; as well as sisters, Margaret Maier Muldrew and Edna (Tom) Milne of Winnipeg, Elma (George) Warkentin of Steinbach, Sally Bird of London, ON; brother Bob (Gladys) Penner of Stoney Plain, AB; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Jake; her son Bernie; sisters, Mary Driedger, Ellen Peters; and brothers Peter E. Penner and Ed Penner. WILHELMINA van der ZWEEP (nee VAN WYK) A loving spirit suddenly left us on September 10, 2004. Surrounded by her family, Wilma passed away at age 62. She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years Ed. Also left to cherish her memory are her children and grandchildren, Greg (Rob, Kathy, Ed and David), Val (Rob) Loudfoot, Connie (Shane, Celia and Hope), Patricia, Gary (Morgan, Paige and Elise), Tracy (Dale, Blake and Brett) Jordan, Wayne (Nancy and Seth); three great-grandchildren; her sister Elly; and brothers, Jan, Harke, Hillbrand, Lucas, Dennis and Martin. She was predeceased by her parents and brother Joe. Wilma was born icon on July 2, 1942 in the town of Norg, the Netherlands. She moved to Canada in 1952 where she fell in love with and married Ed. They raised their family on a farm near Balmoral, MB and later retired in Stonewall. Wilma was so creative with her hobbies and craftwork. All of us cherish a little something that she has made. If you know Wilma, you'd know fishing was her passion, gardening was her love. Wilma and Ed also crossed many miles and made many friends on their vacation trips and while RVing. BERNICE ASHTON

BERNICE MARIE ASHTON (nee LANNOO) On Wednesday, September 15, 2004 Mom passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Besides her three children, Cheryl (Huw), Raymond (Dixie), and Pamela, Mom leaves to mourn her passing, six grandsons, Jeffrey Vanrobaeys (Diane), Jason Vanrobaeys (Nicole), Casey (Megan), Andrew (Tim), Aaron and Izak; plus her beloved granddaughter Jamie; and her great-granddaughter Emma. Mom is survived by her mother Suzanne Lannoo; brother Maurice; sister Cecile; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving sister and life-long friend Lorraine Caron in July of this year; and her father Edmund in 1950. Mom worked in the insurance business all of her adult life, retiring from Warren, Still and Johnstone in 1998. Stubborn, tenacious and kind is how we will all remember her. Full of fun and fight, Bernie lived her life in good times and bad. Her generosity of spirit will live long in the memories of those she leaves behind. The family would sincerely like to thank all of the people who made Mom's last ten years more comfortable. A very special thanks to Dr. Patricia Harris and the staff at the Grace Hospital Oncology Department - your ongoing care and concern is deeply appreciated; the fifth floor staff of the Grace; Dr. Shahida Ahmed of CancerCare Manitoba; and Beverly C. Bernadine was born icon on May 20, 1927 to Mary and Andrew Berzowski and lived on Dufferin Avenue, later moving to East St. Paul in 1951. She is survived by cousin Stella Diaczun and her family cousin Jane Grammatico (Joseph) and their two children, Mark and Stephanie; cousin Mary and Mike Galas, cousin Barbara Diaczun, cousin Peter Muzia all of New York; cousins, Mary Muzia and John Muzia of East St. Paul; as well as cousins in Poland and Ukraine and her constant companion Buck Jones. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 18 at 3:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with visitation on Friday, September 17 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and prayers starting at 6:30 p.m. all at the Chapel. Entombment to follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Liturgy for the deceased will be held on Monday, September 20 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Bannerman and Arlington with Rev.
