HENRY PREIKSCHAS
1927-2009
HEINRICH “HENRY” PREIKSCHAS passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the age of 81 years.

He is survived by his siblings; Ediht Lesch, Georg (Elle) Preikschas, Anna Spiegelberg, Marie (Gordon) Wilson, Eva Preikschas and Friedrich (Verna) Preikschas.

He was predeceased by brothers Martin Preikschas, Jakob Preikschas, Michael Preikschas age 2, and Hans Preikschas age 3; and brother-in-law Horst.

Henry was born December 2, 1927 in Medseden, Lithuania. He was baptized, and confirmed in the Lutheran church. He moved with his parents during World War II to East Germany in 1941 and then to West Germany. In 1954 they immigrated to Canada and settled in the Coaldale area. He worked as a farmer in the Barnwell and Vauxhall areas. In 1967 Henry along with his brother-in-law went into the construction business. 1997 brought his retirement. In 2003 he moved into an old folks home until his passing.

A Funeral Service will be held at CHRIST TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 416 – 12th Street South, Lethbridge, AB. on Friday, November 13, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Jason and Pastor Martin co-officiants. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

HELEN M. PETERSEN
1920-2009
HELEN M. PETERSEN, (nee Vaselenak), beloved wife of the late Carlton “Dot” W. Petersen passed away peacefully at Extendicare in Lethbridge after a valiant effort for life on Tuesday, October 27th, 2009 at the age of 89 years.

Besides her husband passing away in 1998, Helen was predeceased by her brothers Leonard (L.M.) Vaselenak Sr., Albert Vaselenak, John (J.V.) Vaselenak, and Donald Vaselenak; one sister, Marie Vaselenak and one infant daughter in 1944.

She is survived by her sons, Lawrence “Larry” (Jolayne) of Lethbridge, Edwin “Ed” (Ellen) of Calgary, Wayne of Calgary and Glen (Kimberley) of Running Springs, California; one daughter, Lorraine Buchanan of Lethbridge; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Irene Hazuda of Lethbridge; sisters-in-law, Frances, Helen,

Gladys and Isolda Vaselenak; numerous nieces and nephews.
Helen was born in Lethbridge on February 29, 1920 to Stefan and Mary Vaselenak. She accomplished much in her life, such as getting married in 1940 and raising 5 children. Her love of life and people touched the lives of all those who knew her, and our time with her was marvelous. She was a compassionate, thoughtful and honourable woman who loved her family and animal companions. Besides being a character and a half, she had a unique sense of humour and a quick wit, a wonderful personality and was full of laughter and the joy of life. Helen loved gardening and knitting, cooking for her family, especially short-bread cookies at Christmas, and was always ready to help someone in need.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 – Mayor Magrath Drive S., Lethbridge on Monday, November 2nd, 2009 at 1:00 P.M., with Pastor Wayne Boersma officiating. Helen and Dot will be laid to rest in their infant daughter’s plot in Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge.

JACK ARLAN SCHIMPF
2010
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of JACK ARLAN SCHIMPF. After receiving his "golden dove" for successfully battling cancer, Jack passed away suddenly on January 6, 2010 at the age of 71 years.

Born in Barons, AB. on December 18, 1938, Jack was raised in Coalhurst, AB., where he met the love of his life, Lorraine. They married on September 3, 1960 and began a home in Lethbridge. Their son David was born in 1963, after which they lived in Calgary for several years. After returning to the Lethbridge area, their son Darrell was born in 1974. Jack worked various jobs including Juris Livestock in Picture Butte, cattle hauling, and at National Salvage where he worked until his retirement.

Jack leaves to mourn his wife Lorraine, sons David (Phyllis) Schimpf and Darrell (Kimberly) Schimpf, along with six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves siblings Ron (Shirl) Schimpf, Doreen (Rick) Bartier, Clancy (Dee) Schimpf, Wayne Schimpf, Terry (Bonnie) Schimpf, and Sharon (Terry) Gilewicz, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is predeceased by his infant son Rory Arlan, parents Philip and Eva, and siblings Walter, Alfred, and Elsie.

Jack loved his role as a father and grandfather, he took great pride in his children and loved spoiling his grandchildren. His contagious smile, distinct laughter, and joyful teasing touched the lives of all that knew him. His humour, love, courage and strength will never be forgotten.

At Jack's request, a Private Family Celebration will be held in his honour on Saturday, January 16, 2010. Anyone wishing to may mail them to Apt. A 421-28th Street South Lethbridge AB T1J 3S7 c/o Lorraine Schimpf.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of The Cancer Centre at the Chinook Regional Hospital.

MR. WILLIAM HAROLD STYNER
1942-2009

STYNER, WILLIAM (BILL) HAROLD (MAY 1942 - DEC 2009)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bill Styner, of Lethbridge, on December 22, 2009, after a long, courageous and incredibly spirited battle with cancer.

Bill was a good husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. He will be sadly missed by those whose hearts he touched, especially his wife Isabelle, his four children, Dale (Lori), Brad (Yvette), Jolayne (Marc), and Michael (Tracy), Isabelle’s three daughters, Heather (Don), Valerie (Todd), and Dawn (Steve) and, step-son Troy (Bev), his eight grandchildren Kyle, Brittany, Jessica, Dustin, Tyler, Anjalyne, Deziree, and Mattea, Isabelle’s eleven grand children and one great grandson. Also left to mourn his loss are six sisters and one brother Sharon (Ed), Debbie (Les), Linda, Judy (Rob), Marilyn, Lori (Scott), Marvin (Lorna) and their families.

Bill was predeceased by his father Harold, mother Norma and brother Jim.

For all of those whose lives he has touched, there’s comfort in knowing that Bill has gone to the great racetrack in the sky!

At Bill’s request there will be no funeral service but he’d love you to join Isabelle in a Celebration Of His Life and to remember all of the good times we shared. His last call to the post will be at THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN TURF CLUB, (main entrance of the grandstand) 3401 Parkside Drive, Lethbridge, AB. on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 2:00 P.M.

MRS. CECELIA SHIELL
1908-2009
MRS. CECELIA SHIELL beloved wife of the late Mr. Walter Shiell of Lethbridge, passed away at St. Michael’s Health Centre on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at the age of 101 years.

JOHN JAMES SCHMIDT
1935-2009
MR. JOHN JAMES SCHMIDT beloved husband of Mrs. Tillie Schmidt of Coaldale, passed away at home on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at the age of 74 years.

Besides his loving wife, he is survived by: Debbie (Brian) Erdos of Coaldale, AB. and Gary (Rhonda Johnson) Schmidt of Lethbridge, and two grandchildren: Bradley and Brittany Erdos.

John spent many years working as a carpenter. During his lifetime he built five family homes. He was always available to help anyone with a construction job. John enjoyed spending his time outdoors camping, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling.

A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Friday, November 27, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. with Deacon Cliff Bogdan officiating.

A Celebration of Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME ON Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Tomy Manjaly officiating. Interment to follow at Coaldale Cemetery.

In memory of John, donations may be made to Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, Box 563 Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 3Z4.

DARREN SWEET GRASS
1967-2009
DARREN SWEET GRASS was born on January 31, 1967; he passed away suddenly on Thursday October 29, 2009 at the age of 42 years old. Darren was survived by his children Brook (Michelle) Little Shields, Kalcia (Nick) Little Shields, Tucker Sweet Grass, Shaylyn Sweet Grass, Kenton Shade and Kristy-Rae Oka, and special friend Yolanda Little Shields, his mother Mary Rose Sweet Grass, father Frank Small Eyes, sisters Marlene Sweet Grass, Darita Small Eyes, Chrissy (Jono) Mistaken Chief, Rose Marie Sweet Grass, adopted brothers Mike (Stephanie) Sweet Grass, Ace Sweet Grass, Cade Sweet Grass, and his two precious Grandchildren Trip Little Bear and Nash Little Shields, his Special aunts Alfreda Sweet Grass, Catherine (Oliver) Russell, Rosabelle (Calvin) Day Chief, Molly Small Eyes, Aflreda Delaney, Great Aunts Margaret Weasel Fat, Elizabeth Red Crow, Elsie First Rider, Isabelle Healy, Mary Louise Fox, his Uncles Arthur (Rosetta) Sweet Grass, Sam Small Eyes, Frances Small Eyes, Frank Wolf Plume.

A Funeral Service will be held at ST. PAUL’S ANGLICAN CHURCH, Cardston, AB., on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Canon Allan McCuaig officiating.
