WILLIAM ROBERT SLATNIK Bill passed away suddenly at home, Monday, August 23, 2004 after a beautiful day spent at the Park with his granddaughter Jennifer. "Poppa" was so proud of the newest addition to our family. Bill's pride and joy were his two sons Trevor and Todd. He was so proud of their many accomplishments. Todd and Trevor have not only lost a loving caring father but a friend as well. Bill grew up on the family farm in Glenside, SK. He left home early and spent many years as a surveyor with Kenting Exploration, Calgary, AB, and later was employed by Greyhound Bus Lines until his retirement in 2001. Bill is survived by his wife of 36 years Lynda; two sons, Todd and Trevor; daughter-in-law Treva; granddaughter Jennifer; and brother John of Esteven, SK; as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank everyone for their kindness and support. Heartfelt gratitude to the paramedics and neighbour who tried tirelessly to help our beloved husband, father and grandfather. Funeral services will take place on Friday, August 27 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Anglican Church, 3830 Roblin Blvd. Graveside service will follow in Green Acres Cemetery, Hwy. KATHLEEN SUTTON

KATHLEEN MARY (KAY) SUTTON Kay passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her parents, Leonard J. Sutton and Dorothy M. Sutton and her sister-in-law Ann Sutton. She is survived by her brother Richard, her nephew Jim Sutton and his wife Lisa and daughter Claire as well as numerous cousins in England. Kay was born icon in St. Vital at the family home on Egerton Road, attended Glenwood School and Glenlawn Collegiate where she was a member of the first Grade 12 class at the Collegiate. She also attended Angus Business College. She worked for a number of years for the T. Eaton Company in the Mail Order Advertising Department and then for the Federal Civil Service in the Unemployment Insurance Department and Corporate and Consumer Affairs, retiring in 1984. After retirement she worked as a volunteer for the Manitoba Museum of Man and Nature cataloguing and writing descriptions of new artifacts as they were received by the museum. She was a longtime member of St. Mark's Anglican Church in St. Vital and a faithful member of the choir as well as a Sunday School teacher. She loved to travel, visiting England many times as well as Malaya and the southern United States. Her kindness and hospitality knew no bounds and she entertained relatives from overseas many times. She is particularly remembered by her nephew Jim for the generosity she showed to him. The family wish to thank the staff of The Convalescent home of Winnipeg for welcoming her into their family and providing such wonderful care for the last four years. Cremation has taken place an a committal service will be held at St. Vital Cemetery at 4:00 p.m. Friday, August 27. WILLIAM (BILL) YACYNA Peacefully, on Monday, August 23, 2004, Bill Yacyna, loving husband of Olga, passed away with his family by his side. Besides his loving wife of 57 years, Bill is survived by his daughter Kathy Baryski (husband Allan); two grandchildren, Karaleen Christie (Cory), Bill Baryski (Amanda); and numerous dear friends. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Peter (1944) and Anastasia Yacyna (1982). Bill was born icon in Winnipeg November 7, 1916. As a young boy, his mother instilled in him his Ukrainian heritage, leading him to be a Ukrainian dancer under the direction of Avramanko. He was also an avid wedding photographer where he had photographed many of his friends' nuptials. During his lifetime, he was a member of the Legion 141 fishing club, and enjoyed fishing after he built his cottage in Falcon Lake in 1955. Also during that time, he belonged to the Centennial Swimming Club. Until his retirement he was employed by Canadian Airlines. During his retirement, he enjoyed his building of model airplanes and oil paintings. He cherished his grandchildren, and enjoyed his time with them at the lake, teaching them how to swim, fish and about nature. Cremation has taken place and memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 27 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. with Fr. Michael Krochak officiating. We would like to thank all emergency staff at Seven Oaks Hospital, at the time of need, and a special thanks to Dr. Kroczak. A very special thank you to Anne Ostry, our angel in a time of need. BRIAN CAMERON YOUNG Our family has experienced the loss of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather. As a single parent, Dad was always there for us. He cared for us when we were sick, supported us throughout our school years and spent many hours watching us play baseball, hockey and ringette. We have many fond memories of camping trips and other family outings. Dad always did his best for us and loved us in his own way. Blood is not always thicker than water and he will always be in our hearts. Left with memories is daughter Colleen (Robert); son Glen (Cheryl); and daughter Terry; grandchildren, Tanis, Kandyce, Keenan, Blake and Trevor; great-grandchildren, Evan, Tristen and Kayden. KENNETH LLOYD COWIE Peacefully passed away at home in Guelph, ON, on August 25, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 46. Beloved husband of Sandra (Weir); and loved father of Lynne, Sarah and Amanda, all of Guelph; loving son of Len and Edith Cowie of Winnipeg, MB; dear brother of Cecil (Delaine and Shannon, Christopher) Cowie of Calgary and Lorna (George and Shayla, Kelby) Wildeman of Winnipeg; son-in-law of Phyllis Weir (Robert Bernhardt) of Winnipeg; brother-in-law of Keith (Joyce and Alex) Weir of Toronto, Steven (Cathy and Christine, Cynthia, Colleen) Weir of Colonsay, SK, and John (Sandi) Weir of Nashville, TN; predeceased by his father-in-law Alex Weir. Ken was born icon in Winnipeg in 1958 and received his education there. Ken and Sandra were married in Winnipeg in 1980. He was active in sports - hockey, golf, skiing, hunting and baseball. He competed in the Canadian Jr. Fastball championships with the Winnipeg team. He golfed as much as possible until recently. He started his career in 1980 with Coats Bell (J&P Coats) in Winnipeg and was transferred to Arthur, ON, in 1999. A special thanks to family and friends for their love and support over the years as well as Coats Bell, fellow employees and customers. Thanks to Dr. Don McGhee and everyone at Mount Sinai Hospital, 14N, in Toronto, Guelph General 4 East, The Cancer Clinic, The Therapeutic Touch Network ON, Hospice Wellington and the Community Care Access Centre. BERTHA DICKSON (nee GIBSON) 1918 - 2004 Peacefully on Wednesday, August 25, 2004, Mom went to join our dad Bob; her parents, George and Bertha Gibson; brothers, George and Charles; and sister Dora. She is survived by her daughter Linda (Michael) Starosilec and son Jim (Heather) Dickson; grandchildren, Shawn (Susan) and Rob (Glenda) Starosilec of Winnipeg, Regan (Clint) Nerbas Okotoks, AB and Tyler Dickson of Winnipeg. Also missing her are her five great-grandchildren, Darrell, Alyssa, Brett, Megan and Ruby. Also her sister Jaye Hanna in California and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom's nieces and nephews travelled to Winnipeg last September to honour her on her 85th birthday. This was a wonderful testament to the great lady that she was. Mom was such a caring person not only with her family but with her many close friends. She had a generous and loving heart and was always willing to do for others. Mom grew up in West Kildonan moving to Fort Rouge in the 1950s and residing there for over 30 years. She worked for Thompson, Dorfman, Sweatman until retiring in the 1970s to work more closely with our dad. Mom attended First Presbyterian Church for many years making many good friends. The family would like to thank Home Care services, in particular Diana and Avril and Palliative Care nurses, Jo and Norma. Also the wonderful staff at the Riverview Health Care Centre, Dr. Garcia, Linda D., Alina, Wayne, Margaret and many others who were so good to our mom. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Monday, August 30 at 10:30 a.m. in Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 109 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or a charity of your choice. THOMAS JOSEPH GELINEAU It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Gelineau on August 21, 2004 in his 81st year. Tom was born icon on October 19, 1923 in Crane River, MB. Tom is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth (Bet); three sons, Gordon (Audrey), Paul (Debbie), Ken (Tina); two daughters, Brenda Vermette and Judy Turner (Doug); 11 grandchildren, Michael (Shelly), Angela (Darren), Mark, David, Taylor, Deana (Rodney), Jenna (Sanel), Wade (Kristine), Lisa (Brian), Jaclyn (Ricky) and Thomas; one great-granddaughter, Madison; his two nephews, Raymond and Robert; and one niece Pat. Tom was predeceased by his twin brother Fred in 1995 and his son-in-law, Doug Vermette in 2000. His special pal Kojack misses him so very much. Tom worked at many occupations, farming, trucking, construction, ending with 17 years as custodian at St. Boniface School Division. After retirement he enjoyed his cottage at Grand Beach with the family. Tom was a very kind and generous man, always helping others no matter how hard the job was, he always said "Work never hurt anyone". As per Tom's wishes a private family funeral will be held on August 27 officiated by Rev. Michael Boulger. Casket bearers, his three sons, Gordon, Paul and Ken; son-in-law Doug Turner; grandsons, Wade Gelineau and Thomas Turner. The family wishes to thank doctors, nurses and all the wonderful staff on E5 at the St. Boniface Hospital for their kind and compassionate care. BEVERLEY FAYE GREEN (nee: WHIPPLE) Beverley lost her courageous battle with lung cancer on July 19, 2004. She was a beautiful girl with a heart of gold and a wonderful sense of humour. She is dearly loved and tremendously missed by her mother Evelyn V. Moroz; her sister Bobbi (Luciano) Competrini; her son David and daughters, Donna (Steve) and Leisa (James) and her grandchildren, Joshua, Jennifer and Garrett. She opened her heart and home to Gordon and Mary Ellen, giving them a better and happier life than they would have had. She also saw to their education. Bev's heart and caring spirit has touched many lives, enriching them. She will be truly missed and lovingly remembered.

JOAN EDITH HUNT (nee ADAMSON) On August 24, 2004 Joan Edith Hunt, beloved wife of the late Mr. Justice John MacLean Hunt, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Health Sciences Centre after a brief illness. Joan was born icon on December 30, 1924 in Winnipeg, to Chief Justice John E. and Mary (Turriff) Adamson. She lived her life in Winnipeg attending Rupertsland School for Girls, followed by working at Toronto General Trust. In 1945 she married John MacLean Hunt and had two daughters. She was a member of First Presbyterian Womens Auxiliary, St. Agnes Guild, The Board of Middlechurch Home, The Crafts Guild of Manitoba and the Bonsai Club of Winnipeg. She enjoyed many enduring friendships from her association with the Decadames, Bridge and Tuesday Stitchery groups. Joan had many and varied interests among which were hunting, weaving and needlework, and travelling. Most summers were spent at the family cottage at Winnipeg Beach surrounded by lifelong friends and their children. She greatly enjoyed travelling with her husband, and after his death, with her friends to Chicago, Fiji, Turkey, The British Isles, Greece, Baja and Mexico. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband John; sisters, Eva Mary Pugh, Julia Dickson, and Clementina Bidwell. She is survived by her daughters and their families; Alexandra, son-in-law John and grandson Christopher; Catherine, son-in-law Douglas and grandson, Jeffrey, and granddaughter, Dawn; and numerous nieces and nephews who will all miss her greatly. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 30 at Thomson "in the Park" 1291 McGillivray Blvd. The family wishes to thank the caring people of the Sherbrook and HSC Central Dialysis and Renal Units as well as those from Home Care Services. FRIEDA JANZEN

FRIEDA JANZEN On August 24, 2004 at the St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 63 years, after a courageous battle with cancer. Frieda is survived by her devoted husband of 37 years, Alex; her children, Mark (Hawona), Sonya (Derek) and Michael; her grandchildren, Anna Janzen and Jackson Penner; her brothers, Bill of Harrow, ON, Walter of Amherstburg, ON, and Alfred (Jill) of Windsor, ON; and 17 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Helen (nee Block) in 1950 and her father Waldemar Chalyj in 1964. Frieda was born icon in Memrik, Ukraine in 1941. Her family fled to Germany in 1943, and came to Rosemary, AB in 1949. In 1950 her mother Helen died of cancer and her father moved to Ontario to seek employment. Without parental support, Frieda and her three brothers had a difficult childhood. Frieda moved to Harrow, ON in 1955 and, after completing high school in Leamington, took nurses training in Chatham. She then enrolled in Bethel College, Newton, KS, where she financed her studies by working as college nurse. In 1967 she married Alex in London, England, where Alex was studying, and shortly after, they moved to Winnipeg. Once her children were in school, Frieda enrolled in part time studies at the University of Manitoba and received her BA in 1989. Frieda worked for several years in the Accounts Payable office at the U of M and at CIBC. Frieda provided much love and support to her family, and took an active and keen interest in the education of her children. She ushered at several Winnipeg theatres, and enjoyed Winnipeg cultural events, CBC radio, and Symphony concerts. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 28 at Bethel Mennonite Church, 870 Carter Ave. Interment will follow in Thomson "In The Park" Cemetery. Viewing to take place on Friday, August 27, 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Klassen Funeral Home, and prior to the service on Saturday, August 28 at Bethel Mennonite Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frieda's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, ON 109 - 675 McDermot Ave, R3E 0V9 or to the Centennial Chemistry Scholarship Fund, Department of Private Funding, University of Manitoba, Room 179 Continuing Education Complex, R3T 2N2.
