JEAN DAVIDSON

JEAN PROVAN DAVIDSON (nee STEWART) With deep regret and sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Jean Provan Davidson, at the age of 102, peacefully on August 24, 2004. Jean was born icon June 5, 1902 in Paisley, Scotland and came to Canada with her parents in 1904. Jean was predeceased by her parent's Mary and Alex Stewart, her husband's Robert Holms and John Davidson, son Billy Holms, sister Hetty Campbell, and brother's William, Archie & Alex Stewart. Left to mourn are her two son's Stewart (Janet) Holms and Gordon Holms, all of Winnipeg, sister Mabel (Joe) Sibbald of BC, grandchildren, Joanne (Willie) Vielhaber, Tracy (Jeff) Olafson and Glenn Holms, great-grandchildren, Robert & Sean Vielhaber, Matthew & Marlee Olafson. As well as many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family Gaylene, Brent and Cooper Nemeth. Jean took great joy in being a hard worker and a dedicated volunteer. She was a life member of her church, Gordon-King Memorial United, and volunteered her time to many charities, including the Polio Patients of the 1960's. She was a Past Matron of Jephthah Chapter 22 Order of the Eastern Star, a past leader of the 5th Pack of Cubs & Scouts, founder of the Association of Retarded Children of Manitoba and she loved them all, referring to them as her "very special people". Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 30, at 2:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Home with Reverend Nancy Sanders officiating, as well, there will be a service from the Order of the Eastern Star. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gordon-King Memorial United Church, 127 Cobourg Ave., R2L 0H4. A special thank you to Linda (her angel) and the staff at the Concordia Hospital for their excellent care. Life's race well run, Life's work well done, Life's crown well won, Now comes rest. ANTONIO JOSEPH DESLAURIERS Peacefully on July 29, 2004, at Ste. Rose General Hospital at the age of 78 years. Tony was born icon April 23, 1926, at Laurier, MB, to Louis and Emilie (Boudreau). He will be lovingly remembered by siblings, Marie Rose Sanderson, Pierre Deslauriers, Rachelle Lofvendahl, Eveline Danchuk, Reynald Deslauriers; family and friends. Tony lived with his family until his teen years, then worked for the CNR in Winnipeg. He enlisted in the Canadian Navy at the age of 17, serving as Gunner between May 1944 and July 1946. He enjoyed sharing the stories of his adventures in the service. He returned to the CNR as a welder until 1957, then moved to California and worked while upgrading his education. He met many famous people. His family was happy at his homecoming after seven years. Tony worked as office manager at Red River Construction, and managed the Caisse Populaire of Laurier, Ste. Agathe, and Ste. Rose, until his retirement in 1984. He remained active on the Laurier Board of Directors as President until 2001. He served as Treasurer of the Manitoba Metis Federation, supported the Foster Parents Plan, Habitat for Humanity, Royal Canadian Legion, National Firearms Assoc. and Manitoba Big Game Trophy Assoc. He was a member of Notre Dame des Victoires Church and had served as an usher at St. Mary's Cathedral. Tony loved to play tennis and was fond of flying small aircraft. An avid hunter and fisherman, he looked forward to his annual treks with his extended family. Blessed with many friends, he always gave love, understanding and encouragement. Tony's last gift to the world was to donate his body for medical research. If desired, donations in his honour may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, Ste. BERTHA DICKSON (nee GIBSON) 1918 - 2004 Peacefully on Wednesday, August 25, 2004, Mom went to join our dad Bob; her parents, George and Bertha Gibson; brothers, George and Charles; and sister Dora. She is survived by her daughter Linda (Michael) Starosilec and son Jim (Heather) Dickson; grandchildren, Shawn (Susan) and Rob (Glenda) Starosilec of Winnipeg, Regan (Clint) Nerbas Okotoks, AB and Tyler Dickson of Winnipeg. Also missing her are her five great-grandchildren, Darrell, Alyssa, Brett, Megan and Ruby. Also her sister Jaye Hanna in California and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom's nieces and nephews travelled to Winnipeg last September to honour her on her 85th birthday. This was a wonderful testament to the great lady that she was. Mom was such a caring person not only with her family but with her many close friends. She had a generous and loving heart and was always willing to do for others. Mom grew up in West Kildonan moving to Fort Rouge in the 1950s and residing there for over 30 years. She worked for Thompson, Dorfman, Sweatman until retiring in the 1970s to work more closely with our dad. Mom attended First Presbyterian Church for many years making many good friends. The family would like to thank Home Care services, in particular Diana and Avril and Palliative Care nurses, Jo and Norma. Also the wonderful staff at the Riverview Health Care Centre, Dr. Garcia, Linda D., Alina, Wayne, Margaret and many others who were so good to our mom. En plus de sa famille religieuse, les Oblats de Marie Immaculee, il laisse dans le deuil ses freres Fernand et Romuald, ainsi que nombreux neveux et nieces. Antonio Fortin est ne a Price, Comte Matane, Quebec le 12 septembre 1917, fils de Hermenegilde Fortin et de Dorilda Deschenes. Le 14 aout 1937 il prit l'habit chez les Oblats de Marie Immaculee a Ville LaSalle, Quebec et fut ordonne pretre le 19 juin 1943 a Ottawa par son Excellence Monseigneur Lajeunesse, o.m.i. Depuis 1944, le Pere Fortin a fait valoir ses talents de professeur a Gravelbourg, SK et a Saint-Boniface, MB. a partir de 1967, il exerce son ministere dans les missions aupres des autochtones a Bloodvein, Fort Alexandre et Vermillion Bay. En 1977, il devient cure a Redvers SK, en 1981 a Elie, MB et apres, vicaire a Ste Rose du Lac, MB. En 1989 il oeuvra a Sioux Narrows, ON jusqu'a sa retraite en 1996 a la Casa Bonita. Les Oblats et la famille Fortin desirent exprimer leur reconnaissance au personnel de l'infirmerie a la Casa Bonita pour leur devouement au Pere Fortin pendant sa maladie. Antonio Fortin passed away at the age of 86. Besides his religious family, he leaves to mourn his brothers, Fernand and Romuald as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Antonio Fortin was born icon in Price, Comte Matane, QC, son of Hermenegilde Fortin and Dorilda Deschenes. He entered the Oblates of Mary Immaculate at Ville LaSalle, Quebec on August 14, 1937, and was ordained June 19, 1943 in Ottawa by Bishop Lajeunesse, o.m.i. In 1944, Fr. Fortin's first ministry was to teach in Gravelbourg SK then in Saint-Boniface, MB until 1967. The following years brought him to the missions of Bloodvein, Fort Alexander and Vermillion Bay. In 1997, he became pastor in the parishes of Redvers SK, Elie, MB, then vicar in Ste. Rose du Lac MB. From 1989 until his retirement in 1996, he served as co-pastor and administrator in Sioux Narrows, ON. The Oblates and the Fortin family wish to express their appreciation to the nursing staff at the Casa Bonita for their care and devotion to Fr. Fortin during his illness. A prayer vigil will be held at Salle Aubert, 474 Aulneau St., Saint-Boniface, on Sunday, August 29 at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass for Fr. ANNIE FUTTY Annie Futty passed away August 26, 2004 with her beloved husband Tom and her beautiful family by her side. Born July 1st, 1925 in Winnipeg to Kenneth and Janet Murray, Annie was a lifetime resident of Winnipeg outside of a short time living in Shelbourne, NS after her marriage in June of 1944. Annie is survived by her husband Tom; her two daughters, Karen Gundrum and Don, Jane Murray and Arnie Anzew; daughter-in-law Linda; five grandchildren, David, Dianna and Derek Gundrum, Carina Kirk and Wendy Rondeau; five great-grandchildren, Dallas, Tyler, Tanner, Brendan and Kaelyn and her two brothers, Gary and Jim. Predeceased by her beloved son Tom; parents; brothers, Donald and Kenneth and sister Christine. Annie was a devoted wife and mother and a wonderful friend to many people. We all were enriched by her zest for life and sense of humour. She was the life of every party, a force to be reckoned with and will be sadly missed by us all. Sue's passion, along with her loving husband Rick, was music and travel. Sue lived in many different places in the world. She and Rick most recently moved to Winnipeg from their home in Toronto. Sue considered her friends so very important in her life. As they all knew Sue showed consideration and generosity to all with true loving sincerity. HOWARD ASA HOUGH June 9, 1927 - July 21, 2004 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and friend. Asa was predeceased by his former wife Theresa in 2003. He leaves his mother Kay; brother Earle (Lilian); son Howard (Carol); daughters, Diane and Helene (John). He will be missed by his grandchildren Daniel, Sasha and Shauna and three great-grandchildren. Asa was a kind, generous man. Although a private person, he had many friends and was well liked by everyone. Asa lived life to the fullest, loved a party and always had an eye for a beautiful woman. He was an avid golfer, some of the best times of his life were spent with friends on the golf course. He was always extremely happy when he played well enough to take their money! He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. At Asa's request there will be no memorial service. He will be laid to rest beside his father. His family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses of the Palliative Care Unit at the Vancouver General Hospital for all their loving care. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 30 at Brookside Cemetery. Friends are asked to gather at the office before proceeding to the graveside. A reception will follow. WILLIAM ROGER HUNCHAK It is with much sorrow that Bill's family announces his untimely passing, after a brief battle with cancer, on Sunday, August 22, 2004 at the Peach Arch Hospital, Extended Care Unit, White Rock, BC. Bill is survived by his sister Olga Potiewski; brother Arthur (Lillian); brother Peter (Donna); sister Florence Zayac (Julian); sister Gwen Campbell (Colin); sister Virginia Mathews (Sandy); brother-in-law Paul Harasymchuk and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Rose and Steve Hunchak; sister Patricia Harasymchuk; brother and sister-in-law George and Phyllis; sister and brother-in-law, Josephine Muha and Elmer; brother-in-law Fred Potiewski; and an infant sister, brother and niece. Bill was born icon June 14, 1946 at the Pine Falls Hospital. He grew up on the family farm in Springwell, MB. He attended Red Deer School and Lac du Bonnet Collegiate. Bill got a summer job in 1962 with Manitoba Hydro and after graduating from High School in 1963, he returned to work for Manitoba Hydro. His career was working in transmission and distribution of hydropower. In 1973 Bill moved to B.C. and at the time of his death he was employed by B.C. Hydro. Bill truly lived life to the fullest. Over the years he enjoyed travelling, sky diving, skiing, fishing, golf and most of all spending time with his many friends. Bill will be sadly missed by his family and his friends in Manitoba, British Columbia and California. In compliance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment will be in the family plot in Lac du Bonnet, MB at a later date. The family thanks the Doctors and Staff that cared for Bill at the MSA Hospital in Abbotsford, The Fraser Valley Cancer Centre in Surrey, The Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster and The Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock. JOAN EDITH HUNT (nee ADAMSON) On August 24, 2004 Joan Edith Hunt, beloved wife of the late Mr. Justice John MacLean Hunt, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Health Sciences Centre after a brief illness. Joan was born icon on December 30, 1924 in Winnipeg, to Chief Justice John E. and Mary (Turriff) Adamson. She lived her life in Winnipeg attending Rupertsland School for Girls, followed by working at Toronto General Trust. In 1945 she married John MacLean Hunt and had two daughters. She was a member of First Presbyterian Womens Auxiliary, St. Agnes Guild, The Board of Middlechurch Home, The Crafts Guild of Manitoba and the Bonsai Club of Winnipeg. She enjoyed many enduring friendships from her association with the Decadames, Bridge and Tuesday Stitchery groups. Joan had many and varied interests among which were hunting, weaving and needlework, and travelling. Most summers were spent at the family cottage at Winnipeg Beach surrounded by lifelong friends and their children. She greatly enjoyed travelling with her husband, and after his death, with her friends to Chicago, Fiji, Turkey, The British Isles, Greece, Baja and Mexico. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband John; sisters, Eva Mary Pugh, Julia Dickson, and Clementina Bidwell. She is survived by her daughters and their families; Alexandra Harbottle, son-in-law John and grandson Christopher; Catherine Johnson, son-in-law Douglas and grandson Jeffrey and granddaughter Dawn; and numerous nieces and nephews who will all miss her greatly. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 30 at Thomson "in the Park" 1291 McGillivray Blvd. The family wishes to thank the caring people of the Sherbrook and HSC Central Dialysis and Renal Units as well as those from Home Care Services. IVAN JOHN JACOBS After a brief illness, Ivan Jacobs, our beloved husband and father, aged 85 passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2004 at the Grace Hospice. Ivan will be lovingly remembered by his wife Gladys; his children, Ken (Julie), Don (Gerry) and Bev (Tom) Paulley; grandchildren, Krista (Ricky) Zimmermann, Joanne (Sean) Darams, Steve (Kim), Brent (Linda), Paul (Teresa), Jody (Clint) Hooper and Melissa Milbrandt; great-grandchildren, Jesse, Shandi, Alyssa, Kurt, Joshua, Alexander, Anna, Megan, Kayla and Matthew; sister Dorothy Misurko; and brothers, Roy, Ellwood and Bruce (Bev). Ivan was born icon on September 18, 1918 and grew up on the family farm in Darlingford, MB. He joined the Air Force in April 1941 and served until 1945 as an Aero Engine Mechanic. He and Gladys met during this period and were married on Christmas Eve 61 years ago. After serving in the Air Force, Ivan worked as a machinist at various companies, retiring from the Whiteshell Nuclear Research Establishment in 1983. Ivan enjoyed and was very fond of his many friends and the staff at Lindenwood Manor, where he and Gladys spent their last years together. The family wishes to thank the palliative care staff at the Grace Hospital and the Grace Hospice for their caring and compassion during Ivan's brief illness. Memorial service for Ivan will be held on Tuesday, August 31 at 12:30 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage. Interment and reception will follow. Dad was predeceased by two sons, Kenny and Barry; his parents, Duncan and Jessie Kippen; three sisters, Vera Kippen, Mrs. Jessie Carroll, Mrs. Jean Neiles; two brothers, Gordon and Duncan Kippen and Harry Amison. Dad is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eileen; one daughter, Wendy; three sons, Glen (Delilah), Michael (Sandra) and Darryl Kippen. He is also survived by two daughter-in-laws, Betty and Bev Kippen; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; Victor and Vivian Amison; sister-in-law, Mrs. Donna Kippen; one sister Mrs. Elizabeth Heaman; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Dad was born icon in the Boyne District on September 24, 1913. After marrying in 1942, he farmed in the Carman area until 1975. After retirement he was involved in community activities. He enjoyed camping, curling, lawn bowling, travelling, and fishing. Dad was a regular at the Carman Community Active Living Center. He will be missed by his family and friends. ANTHONY THOMAS KOLT On Friday, August 20th, 2004 with his family at his side, at the Concordia Hospital, Tony went to his final reward. Tony was born icon June 13, 1920 in Winnipeg. He is survived by his daughter Sandra (Bill) and grandchildren Farah and Bill Jr. (Debbie). He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Antonina, wife Katherine, sister Adele and son Gerald. Tony was employed by the CPR, working his way up to a locomotive engineer, when he found his calling as an automotive salesman at Winnipeg Motor Products. He eventually became Used Car Sales Manager. He also worked for Gateway Chev, Carter Motors and McNaught Motors from where he retired. He attained many awards, recognizing his sales prowess over the years. Memorial Service in commemoration of his life will be held on Sunday, August 29th, 2004, at 3:30 pm at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Private interment will take place at a later date.
