Bernice Irene Gregory
Aug. 6, 1911 - April 5, 2002

Bernice Irene Gregory of Boulder died of natural causes on Friday, April 5, 2002, at Boulder Manor Health Care Center. She was 90.

The daughter of Oliver M. P. Deakins and Jessie E. Metcalf, she was born Aug. 6, 1911, in Auburn, Neb. She married Russel L. Gregory on May 23, 1929, in Hiawatha, Kan. He died in 1955.

She attended Peru Normal School in Peru, Neb.

Mrs. Gregory was a homemaker, accountant and former door greeter at Kmart in Boulder.

She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Boulder. She enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include a son, Jim Gregory of Longmont; two daughters, Susie Gregory of Boulder and Jo Self of Mesa, Ariz.; six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter and two sons.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Bethel United Methodist Church, 1925 Glenwood Drive, Boulder, with the Rev. Gilbert Zyzniewski officiating. Services will conclude at the church.

Contributions may be made in her name to the Hospice of Boulder County, 2594 Trail Ridge Drive, East, Suite A, Lafayette, CO 80026.

Terese Stewart
Feb. 14, 1950 - April 18, 2002

Terese Stewart of Boulder died of breast cancer on Thursday, April 18, 2002, at her home. She was 52.

Born Feb. 14, 1950, in Bakersfield, Calif., she was the daughter of Donald Stewart and Alice L. Hauck Stewart.

She earned her bachelor's degree in music in piano performance in 1972 and her master's of music in history and literature in 1973 from Texas Tech University. She continued working toward herdoctorate from 1975-1977 at Texas Tech University. She received a doctorate of musical arts in piano performance from the University of Colorado in 1983.

Ms. Stewart was a free-lance musician and coach/accompanist since 1983, performing more than 160 recitals at CU since 1991. She was also a former member of the Colorado Ballet Orchestra and a former principal keyboardist for the Denver Chamber Orchestra, and performed around the United States and the world.

She moved to Boulder in 1987 from Bethesda, Md.

Ms. Stewart was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Boulder. "Her faithful companion Frances, well known to her friends and associates, will be moving to Oklahoma, " her family said.

Survivors include her mother of Stillwater, Okla.; a brother, Jeffrey D. Stewart of Stillwater; one sister, Victoria Scelba of West Paterson, N.J.

She was preceded in death by her father.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at St., John's Episcopal Church, 1419 Pine St., Boulder. The Rev. Gayle King of the church will officiate. Services will conclude at the church.

Gary Phillip Strom
Oct. 14, 1945 - April 8, 2002

Gary Phillip "the Walker" Strom of Boulder died on Monday, April 8, 2002, at Boulder Community Hospital. The cause of death is pending a coroner's investigation. He was 56.

Born Oct. 14, 1945, in Detroit, he was the son of Phillip E. Strom and Gladys M. Bailey Strom. He married Susan Willis in 1966 in Michigan. They later divorced.

He graduated from Walled Lake Central High School in Walled Lake, Mich.

Mr. Strom was a staff sergeant in the Army, serving four years in Vietnam.

He was resident of the Jamestown, Boulder and Denver areas for 19 years.

Mr. Strom was a master electrician a trade he learned in Medford, Ore.

Survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Summerhill of Commerce, Mich., and Kari Jones of White Lake, Mich.; his former wife; two sisters, Cynthia Glover of Tampa, Fla., and Wendy Murnan of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at noon April 28 at Buckingham Park, five miles up Old Stage Road between Boulder and Jamestown. Family and friends will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Post-Fund, in care of The Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 1055 Clermont Street, Denver, CO 80225.

Zachary S. Hibbard
Jan. 28, 1975 - April 17, 2002

Zachary S. "Zac" Hibbard of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., formerly of Boulder, died of injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Wednesday, April 17, 2002, in Fort Lauderdale. He was 27.

Born Jan. 28, 1975, in Chicago Heights, Ill., he was the son of William "Bill" Hibbard and Linda O'Bryan.

He graduated from South Broward High School in Hollywood, Fla., in 1993 and was attending Keiser College in Fort Lauderdale, studying network administration.

Mr. Hibbard was the assistant operations manager for National Jets Inc. of Fort Lauderdale.

He lived in Boulder from 1984 to 1996.

Mr. Hibbard was a member of the Catholic church and attended Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Boulder. He enjoyed aviation, music and movies, and was an avid roller and ice hockey fan, his family said.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Tom West, of Boulder; father and stepmother, Joann Hibbard, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a brother, Matt Hibbard of Boulder; a half-sister, Sarah West of Boulder; and paternal grandmother, Agatha Moravek of Pembroke Pines, Fla.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 6739 South Boulder Road, Boulder.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The Rev. Dorino De Lazzer of the church will be the celebrant. Services will conclude with burial in the Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church Cemetery.

Contributions may be made in his name to the Victims Services Fund-Boulder Police Department, 1805 33rd St., Boulder, CO 80301.

Charles H. Eckenrode Sr.
Feb. 10, 1920 - April 30, 2002

Charles H. Eckenrode Sr. of Boulder died of natural causes on Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at his home. He was 82.

The son of James T. Eckenrode and Chloma Yoder Eckenrode, he was born on Feb. 10, 1920, in Williamsport, Pa. He married Hilda W. Koerts on Oct. 5, 1946, in Endicott, N.Y.

He graduated from Endicott High School and attended the State University of New York.

Mr. Eckenrode served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II and was a chief warrant officer.

He worked at IBM for 46 years and part-time for six years in management positions.

Mr. Eckenrode was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club, the Cosmopolitan Club, American Legion and Eagle Scouts.

He was a pilot and enjoyed bowling, playing cards and baseball. He had tried out for a semi-pro team.

"He was a great man who will be missed by all, " his family said.

Survivors include his wife of Boulder; two sons, Chuck Eckenrode Jr. of Hilton Head, S.C., and James Eckenrode of Platteville; a daughter, Jo Ellen Eckenrode of Loveland; a brother, Dennis Eckenrode of Endicott, N.Y.; a sister, Dianne A. Harris of Boulder; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Avalon Funeral Home, 1320 Centaur Village Drive, Lafayette.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home chapel. Interment will be private.

Earl E. Justice
Aug. 31, 1939 - April 29, 2002

Earl E. Justice of Longmont died of sarcoma Monday, April 29, 2002, in Longmont. He was 62.

The son of Earl M. Justice and Marian Drake Justice, he was born Aug. 31, 1939, in Harlan, Iowa. He married Terry Kientz in Lyons.

He graduated from Minnesota Bible College in 1962.

Mr. Justice was a pastor beginning in 1962, serving several churches as a senior pastor and youth minister, including Boulder Valley Christian Church, and most recently at New Horizon Christian Church of Dacono. He also was a Realtor and broker in the Longmont area.

He moved to Boulder in the early 1980s and to Longmont in 1993.

Mr. Justice was past president of the Fox Hills Homeowners Association and a member of the Longmont Realtors Association since 1997. He was a member of New Horizon Christian Church and director of the American Cancer Society Fund Drive.

He enjoyed flying, collecting stamps and coins, bowling, camping, travel and yard work, his family said.

Survivors include his wife of Longmont; his mother of Denison, Iowa; two sons, Troy Justice of Massachusetts and Joel Justice of Longmont; two daughters, Rene Chasteen of Rolla, Mo. and Kelly Justice of Lexington, S.C.; and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at LifeBridge Christian Church at Colo. 66 and Gay Street in Longmont. Bob Hoff will officiate.

Interment will be Monday in Iowa.

Dorothy Ida Williams
Sept. 16, 1911 - April 29, 2002

Dorothy Ida Williams of Boulder died of natural causes on Monday, April 29, 2002, in Boulder. She was 90.

The daughter of Roy Musch and Jessie McClintock Musch, she was born on Sept. 16, 1911, in Mellette, S.D. She married Morgan R. Williams on Sept. 3, 1940, in Helena, Mont. He preceded her in death.

She graduated from Mellette High School in South Dakota in 1929.

Mrs. Williams worked for Cooley Gravel Co. in Denver from the early 1950s until her retirement in the mid 1970s. She moved to Boulder in 1952.

She enjoyed gardening, traveling and reading.

Survivors include a son, Mark Williams of Boulder.

Contributions may be made to the Hospice of Boulder County, 2594 Trailridge Drive East, Lafayette, CO 80026.

Ruth T. Wilson
Jan. 11, 1926 - April 29, 2002

Ruth T. Wilson of Boulder died of natural causes on Monday, April 29, 2002, in Boulder. She was 76.

The daughter of Ernest Tribbey and Mary Murphy Tribbey, she was born on Jan. 11, 1926, in Harper, Kan. She married Walter Wilson on June 18, 1961, in Denver.

She graduated from high school in Medford, Okla., in 1944.

Mrs. Wilson worked as a legal secretary in Oklahoma and for Mobile Oil Company in Denver and also was a self-employed technical typist.

She was a member of the First Methodist Church and Boulder Rollers.

She enjoyed being a member of the church choir, crafts and was an accomplished seamstress, her family said. She volunteered for Boulder County Sheltered Workshops.

A service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Methodist Church, 1401 Spruce St., Boulder. The Rev. Carolyn Waters will officiate. Inurnment will be private.

Contributions may made to the Music Ministry at the First Methodist Church, 1401 Spruce St., Boulder, CO 80302.
