Mabel Lucille Davis

Mabel Lucille Davis, 93, long-time Poncha Springs resident, died Jan. 1, 2004, at Columbine Manor Nursing Home.

Mrs. Davis was born July 25, 1910, in Mt. Ayr, Iowa, to William and Martha Jeanette (Houston) Buck.

Mrs. Davis graduated from Colorado Springs High School and attended Colorado College.

She married Ralph B. Davis in Castle Rock in 1930.

Mr. and Mrs. Davis moved to Chaffee County in 1954. They also lived in Colorado Springs, Leadville and Denver.

Mr. Davis installed the phone lines at camp Hale during World War II.

Mrs. Davis was very active in the community. She had a long political career in Poncha Springs. She worked for the Poncha Springs Museum, was town clerk and a council member. She was also a long-time Republican, avid sports fan and loved the Broncos.

Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph and brother, Donald Buck.

She is survived by a son, William R. (Kathy) Davis, Buena Vista; grandchildren, Toby (Nicole) Davis, Winter Park and Timothy Davis, Grand Junction; great-grandchild, Kayla Louise Davis; nieces, Christine (Fred) Stark, Ingleside, Texas and Marion Norman, Colorado Springs and many close friends.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Salida.

A private interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Poncha Springs Museum through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Fred ‘Del’ Everett

Fred “Del” Everett, 85, died Jan. 1, 2004, at his home in Salida.

He was born Nov. 2, 1918, in Salida, to Fred D. and Ellen (Eller) Everett.

Mr. Everett was a member of the Shavano Lodge and the Odd Fellows for more than 30 years.

He was a plumber at the Buena Vista Correctional Facility for 25 years.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Mr. Everett also drove the taxi in Salida.

Mr. Everett was preceded in death by his parents; step-brother, Elmer Everett and wife, Helen Everett.

He is survived by his daughter, Peggy Everett, Salida; step-brother, Lowell Everett, Paulsbo, Wash.; step-sisters, Dorothy Gray, Salida and Ruth Ford, Central Point, Ore.; grandchildren, Conrad Glover, Kathy (Daniel) Attkis and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1-4 p.m. today at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Friends who desire may make memorial contributions to the Odd Fellows through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Leonard F. Gallagher

Leonard F. Gallagher, 73, Salida, died Jan. 1, 2004, at Memorial Hospital West in Florida.

Mr. Gallagher was born Nov. 20,1930, in Salida, to Thomas and Irene (Bantley) Gallagher.

Mr. Gallagher owned and operated bakeries in Denver.

He served his country in the Korean War.

In 1982, Mr. Gallagher purchased the Home Bakery in Salida, where he worked while in high school, from Marv Danhauer and operated it until 1993.

Mr. Gallagher was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Elks Lodge No. 808.

He enjoyed playing golf and shooting pool.

Mr. Gallagher was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Thomas Gallagher and Robert Gallagher.

He is survived by his son, Brian (Colleen) Gallagher, California; daughter, Janet Gallagher, Arvada; twin daughters, Diane (Owen) Childs, Marimar, Fla. and Elaine (Christopher) Plakorus, Arvada; sister, Shirley (Bruce) Corrick, Northglenn; grandchildren, Ryan Plakorus, Jamie Gallagher, Justin Gallagher and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Mass of the Christian Burial is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Friends who desire may make memorial contributions to the American Heart Association through Lewis and Glenn.

Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Mildred Margaret Faxton Foss

Mildred Margaret Faxton Foss, 91, died Dec. 27, 2003, at Pikes Peak Hospice.

She was born March 4, 1912, in Kelso, Wash., to Paul Reese Faxton-Farmer and Juanita Jennings.

She married Everett W. Foss, Sept. 26, 1931, in Vancouver, Wash.

Mrs. Foss was a resident of Colorado for 68 years, living in Fowler helping her husband farm and by driving trucks during World War II at the Pueblo Ordnance Depot.

She retired from the payroll department at the Pueblo Activity Depot.

Mrs. Foss moved to Salida in 1986, where the Fosses had built their retirement cabin together. Because of the failing health of Mr. Foss, they moved to Colorado Springs in 1996.

She enjoyed square dancing, traveling, clogging, being a snowbird and ringing hand bells.

Mrs. Foss was a member of Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile.

She is survived by son, Paul (Sandra) Foss, West Yarmouth, Mass.; daughter, Millicent (K.V.) Loehr, Colorado Springs; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sister, Peggy Farmer, Long Beach, Calif. and brother, E.E. Farmer.

Mrs. Foss was preceded in death by her husband who died Jan. 7, 1998 and brother, Vernon Farmer.

Cremation has taken place and at her request no services were held.

Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Presbyterian Church, Hand Bell Fund, 1529 N. Circle Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80909.

Dove-Witt Family Mortuaries, Fountain, was in charge of arrangements.

Keith D. Pontius

Keith D. Pontius, 40, Nathrop and Toledo, Ohio, died Dec. 27, 2003, from heart complications.

Mr. Pontius was born Nov. 5, 1963.

He was a power lineman for local 245 in Toledo and loved his job. He also enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing, snowmobiling and wildlife.

He is survived by brother, Joe Pontius, Ariz.; sister, Becky Trzcinski, Fla. and girlfriend, Glenda Moyer, Toledo.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Karl and Muriel Pontius.

Local services were held Saturday at the Mountain View Church of Christ in Buena Vista. Other services will follow in Toledo.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mountain View Church of Christ or the American Heart Association.

Esther H. Walker

Esther H. Walker, 83, died Jan. 4, 2004, at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Walker was born Aug. 31, 1920, in Salida, to Ralph and Susan (Wolfrom) Culp.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, member and past matron of Topaz Chapter No. 27 of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Rebekahs.

She enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family.

Many people in Salida will remember her for her custom seamstress work.

Mrs. Walker is a fourth-generation Salida resident.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey Walker; brothers, Charles Culp, James Culp and Harry Culp; sister, Pearl Culp Raymond and son, Cole Walker.

She is survived by her sons, Bob (Vicki) Walker, Centennial and Les Walker, Pueblo; daughter, Barbara (Mike) Quick, Salida; brother, Francis Culp, Nathrop; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

Services are set for 1 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Friends who desire may make memorial contributions to either the First Christian Church or the Topaz Chapter No. 27 of the Order of the Eastern Star through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Esther Mae Craig

Esther Mae Craig, 74, Salida, died Jan. 7, 2004, at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Craig was born March 27, 1929, in Emerson, Neb., to John and Cassie (Walton) Griesch.

She married Donald Craig May 7, 1949, in Emerson.

Esther and Donald raised their family in Pender, Neb., and moved to Colorado in 1972. On Jan. 1, 1972, the Craigs purchased Salida Auto Parts and owned and operated the business until their retirement in 1992.

Mrs. Craig enjoyed being a homemaker and spending time with her family after retiring.

She at one time served on the board of directors for Developmental Opportunities.

Mrs. Craig is survived by her husband, Donald Craig, Salida; son, Brad (Janet) Craig, Poncha Springs; daughter, Paula (Don) Bullington, Salida; brother, Leonard (Yvonne) Griesch, Loveland; sisters, Ruth (Leon) Jepsen, Emerson and Betty Thiebaud, Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren, Michele Craig, Poncha Springs; Jeff Bullington, Lawrence, Kans. and Greg (Danna) Bullington, Cheyenne, Wyo. and great-grandchildren, Abigail and Mitchell Bullington, Cheyenne.

She was preceded in death by her parents and numerous brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Angel of Shavano Hospice through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
