Mabel G. Ginther

Mabel G. Ginther, 90, former long time Salida resident, died June 11, 2004, at her home in Lakewood.
Mrs. Ginther was born April 17, 1914, in Coulee City, Washington, to William A. and Anna (Andresen) Gehr.
She worked for the United States Postal Service for many years. She enjoyed hiking in the hills around Salida, arrowhead hunting and loved to fish.
Mrs. Ginther was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, Donald B. Ginther; son, Fritz Ginther; daughter, Melba Jean Ginther; brother Bob Gehr and sisters Joi Rau and Melba Walker.
She is survived by her son Donald H. (Van) Ginther, Lakewood; daughters Bobbye Carol (Russell) Beck of Cody, Wyo. and Dorothy (Albert) Ross of Salida; Brother, William Gehr of Boise, Idaho, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Bear Creek Lake Park in Lakewood.
Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Virginia Wallace

Virginia Wallace, age 79, long time Poncha Springs resident, died June 14, 2004, at her residence in Poncha Springs.
Mrs. Wallace was born December 15, 1924, in St. Louis, Missouri to Gustav and Lenor Myers.
Mrs. Wallace and her husband moved to Poncha Spring in 1963. She was an accomplished horticultural hobbyist and an artist.
Her favorite saying was, “You can’t do it if you don’t try.”
Mrs. Wallace is survived by her husband, Lloyd Wallace of Poncha Springs; son Terry Wallace of St. Louis, Mo. and daughter Leslie Bushaw of Tulsa, Okla; grandchildren Jeff Dominguez, Vance Wallace, Jennifer Wallace, Sean Bushaw and Owen Bushaw.
Memorial services are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Yolanda Davidoff Spino

Yolanda Davidoff Spino, 91, a life long resident of Salida, died June 17, 2004, at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Spino was born Dec. 1, 1912, in Salida to Anthony and Amelia (Peluso) Alloy. She attended Sand Park School while growing up in Salida.
She and her husband, Albert Spino, at various times built and operated five motels in Salida.
She loved cooking and gardening. Mrs. Spino was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She is survived by her sons David Davidoff of Salida and Peter (Kathleen) Davidoff of Steamboat Springs; half brother Louie Kostelic of Leadville and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Peter Davidoff and Albert Spino; daughter, Kathleen Argys and many brothers and sisters.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Helping Hands through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Glen (Roger) McCoy

Glen (Roger) McCoy, Cotopaxi, died of a heart attack June 12, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. McCoy was born Jan. 11, 1942, in Frazesburg, Ohio. He was a high school graduate and served four years in the Army.
He is survived by three children, Roger McCoy of Mentor, Ohio; Loretta Tators of Akron, Ohio and Travis McCoy of Caleo, Mo.
He has one grandson, Nicola Anthony Tators of Akron, Ohio and four sisters, Betty Leslie of Fla.; Sandra Frutig and Wendy Eldridge of Ind., and Pat Cunico of Cotopaxi.
A memorial service will be held at The Upper Room Church of God, Salida, at 3 p.m. June, 22, 2004. Pastor Chuck Surface will be the officiant.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Travis McCoy Education fund at Pueblo Bank and Trust, Salida.

Lisa Martellaro Wilson

wilsonLisa Martellaro Wilson, 40, died Feb. 22, 2004 at her home in Hollister, Calif.
She was born Feb. 27, 1963, in Salida, attended St. Joseph School and graduated from Salida High School in 1981.
During her last year of high school she was a pom pon girl. She enjoyed dancing and aerobics and was a member of The Golden Spikes, a dance group which performed during the Salida Centennial in 1980.
She also participated in several of the air band competitions during FIBArk weekends.
In 1987, when she was employed as circulation manager at The Mountain Mail, she was nominated for the Business and Professional Women’s Young Career Woman award.
She was a certified aerobics instructor and taught aerobics part time at The Fitness Factory.
Mrs. Wilson lived in Salida until 1990, when she moved to California.
She was employed as an office manager at Denise and Felice Farms in Gilroy where she met her husband, Bryan Wilson. They were married in October 1997.
She is survived by her parents, Gene and Laura “Charlie” Martellaro of Salida; brothers, Dean Martellaro, Monterey, Calif.; Marc (Karen) Martellaro, Highlands Ranch; Rob Martellaro, Salida and a sister, Gina Martellaro of Fort Collins.
Also surviving are her grandmother, Jean Barnes of California, nephews Joseph Martellaro of Monterey, Calif., and Braden Martellaro of Highlands Ranch, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Martellaro, in 1980.
She was cremated and a memorial service and memorial fund will be announced.

Margaret Lillian Covey

Margaret Lillian Covey, 97, died Feb. 29, 2004, at Columbine Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Covey was born Feb. 13, 1907, in Guffey, to Clarence M. and Edna M. (Lloyd) Wood.
Mrs. Covey married Jesse Lee Covey Dec. 15, 1927, in Salida. She and her husband managed Rainbow Valley Ranch for 12 years. She was also secretary for the Columbine Gem and Mineral Club.
She spent her life raising her family and grandchildren.
She enjoyed fishing, rock hunting, crossword puzzles, board games and baseball.
Mrs. Covey was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jesse Lee Covey and son, Clarence Covey.
She is survived by her sons, Harry (Astrid) Covey, Salida; Donald (Alma) Covey, Jefferson, Ore. and Kenneth (Diana) Covey, Anchorage, Alaska; daughter-in-law, Peggy Covey and sister, Edith Bement of California and seven grandsons, 10 granddaughters, 18 great-grandsons, 11 great-granddaughters, two great-great-grandsons and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Living Waters Assembly of God in Salida.
Friends who desire may make memorial contributions to the Salvation Army through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Viola Laub

Viola Laub, formerly of Salida, died Feb. 29, 2004, in El Reno, Okla.
She was born in Calumet, Okla., Sept. 12, 1913, to Alfred and Ella Clovis.
She married Peter Laub on Feb. 8, 1933.
Mrs. Laub was preceded in death by her husband; both parents; brothers, Leo Clovis and Paul Clovis; sister, Pearl King; daughter, Helen Marie (Susie) Laub Kirby in January 2004, and by grandsons, Jesse Olston and Dennis Laub.
She is survived by sons, Paul of El Reno, Okla.; Joe (Beverly) of Ellensburg, Wash.; Bob (Judi) of Salida and Donald of Buena Vista and daughters, Ella (John) Olston, Parker’s Prairie, Minn.; Barbara (Bill) James, Spring Creek, Nev. and Betty (Fred) Kuhn, Buena Vista. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday in El Reno, Okla. Burial will take place in El Reno, Okla.
Arrangements are being handled by Wilson Funeral Home.

Jeanne Shirley Papp

pappJeanne Shirley Papp, 84, died March 1, 2004, at Columbine Manor Nursing Home in Salida.
She was born Feb. 16, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., to Walter DeWitt and Emma (Frazier) Graham.
Mrs. Papp married Richard John Papp Sr., Jan. 8, 1945, in Greensboro, N.C.
She worked for the hospice in Oshkosh, Wisc.
Mrs. Papp moved to Salida in 1993 and was a member of Salida Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church.
She enjoyed going out to eat with her friends.
Mrs. Papp was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard John Papp Sr.; son, James Papp; brother, Walter Graham and sister, Gladys Virginia Poppe.
She is survived by her sons, Rick (Debbie) Papp, Salida and Mike Snellen, Royal Grande, Calif.; niece, Virginia Poppe, Thornton and nephew, Skeeter (Deb) Poppe, Sarasota, Fla.; grandchildren, Rachel Joy Papp and Zechariah James Papp, both of Salida and several other nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. March 20, at Salida Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Salida Vineyard Mission Group through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

William T. Swett

William T. Swett, 78, died Feb. 29, 2004, at his home in Salida.
He was born Oct. 12, 1925, in Bunkie, La., to Carl C. and Lela (Mantiply) Swett.
Mr. Swett served in the Army with the 89th division during World War II.
He married Wanda Rigney on Nov. 10, 1951, in Ft. Worth, Texas.
Mr. Swett was instrumental in starting the union for federal workers. He was the union steward for the National Association of Government Employees. He was also responsible for getting air conditioning in all federal cars.
He was past president of the National Weather Service Southern Region.
Mr. Swett was one of only three representatives to go to Washington and work for NOAH.
He was a member of the American Society of Dowsers and moved to Salida with his wife in 2000.
Mr. Swett was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Swett, Salida; son, Jim (Sondra) Swett, Salida; daughters, Kathy (Bob) Russell, Arlington, Texas; Sandy (Jack) Blanchard, Englewood and Cherly Fowler, Haynesville, La. and nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
There are no local services planned at this time.
Friends who desire may make memorial contributions to the Angel of Shavano Hospice through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
