Eileen Mary Waldvogel of Stamford,
a former Norwalk resident, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000 at Stamford Hospital. She was 82.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born May 13, 1918, in Akron, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Leo and Mary Jane Buehrle.
Before moving to Stamford 18 months ago, Mrs. Waldvogel lived in Norwalk since 1963.
She received a bachelor's degree in economics from Notre Dame College in Cleveland in 1942. She worked as a bridal consultant with M. O'Neil Co. in Akron for several years. She was a member of the Phi Mu Alumnae Sorority, Fairfield County Chapter, and was past president of the Norwalk/Wilton chapter of AARP.
She also was a tax aide volunteer with AARP for many years, past president of the Norwalk Garden Club and a volunteer at St. Mary's Church in Norwalk.
She is survived by a son, Robert J. Waldvogel of Fairfield; two daughters, Mary Ellen Walter of Tulsa, Okla., and Jane Marie Lynch of Omaha; a sister, Rita Rohner of Akron; and six grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert L. Waldvogel.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000 at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000 at St. Mary's Church, 669 West Ave., Norwalk.
Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Richards Avenue, Norwalk.
Memorial donations may be made to the Norwalk/Wilton chapter of AARP.
Joseph A. Stramandole of Darien,
a former Stamford resident, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000 at Stamford Hospital. He was 96.
He died of natural causes, according to his family.
Born July 13, 1904, in Lionel Mountain, Witherbee, N.Y., he was a son of the late Patrick and Teresa Stramandole Sette.
Mr. Stramandole was a foreman at Electrolux Corp. in Greenwich for many years.
He is survived by a stepson, Richard Reynolds of Brookfield; a brother, Michael Sette of Stamford; a sister, Anna Festa of Stamford; and a grandson.
He was predeceased by his wife, Alice Reynolds Stramandole; a brother, Nicholas Stramandole; three sisters, Rose Rizzo, Mary Larobina and Pauline Larobina.
There are no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000 at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Ave., Stamford.
Burial will follow in Long Ridge Union Cemetery, Erskine Road, Stamford.
Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Ave., Stamford, is handling arrangements.
Margaret Lemon Fagan,
a longtime Stamford resident, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000 at her daughter's home in Louisville, Ky. She was 88.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born Dec. 31, 1911, in Stamford, she was a daughter of the late John W. and Margaret Lemon.
Mrs. Fagan worked in the Stamford Probate Court.
She is survived by two daughters, Suzanne Henning and Maura Fagan, both of Louisville; two sons, Howard Fagan of Wilton and Robert Fagan of Louisville; and 11 grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Howard Fagan Sr.

Michael James Thorpe,
a Stamford resident, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000 at home. He was 81.
He died of cardiac arrest, according to his family.
Born April 6, 1919, in Stamford, he was the son of the late Michael and Dorothy Swiatowicz Trupkovitz.
Mr. Thorpe served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service.
Mr. Thorpe was a member of St. Mary's Church in Stamford.
He is survived by a daughter, Deborah Dube of Stamford; a sister, Frances Parahus of New London; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary E. Goff Thorpe; and a daughter, Cynthia Alyce Thorpe.
Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000 at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford.
A service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2000 at the funeral home.

Salvatore S. Iovino,
a lifelong Stamford resident, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000 at Stamford Hospital. He was 73.
Mr. Iovino died of injuries sustained when he was struck by a car while crossing Magee Avenue on Thursday, according to his family.
Born Dec. 10, 1927, in Stamford, he was the son of the late Gaetano and Carmela D'Alessandro Iovino.
Mr. Iovino worked for George Bott Sr. Realty Management Co. in Stamford for more than 40 years.
He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during World War II.
Mr. Iovino is survived by two brothers, Erasmo Iovino of Stamford and Anthony Iovino of Palm Coast, Fla.; four nephews and a niece.
He was predeceased by a brother, Gaetano Iovino.

Marcelino Carde,
a Stamford resident, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000 at the Tandet Center for Continuing Care in Stamford. He was 68.
He died of complications from Parkinson's disease and diabetes, according to his family.
Born July 18, 1932, in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico, he was a son of the late Francisco Carde and Petra Ortiz.
Mr. Carde was an electronic assembler at Oscar Vision in Stamford.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Quiles Carde of Stamford; three sons, Lemuel Carde of Bridgeport, Ricardo Carde of Stamford and Dennis Carde of Fort Lee, N.J.; a brother, Rodolfo Carde of Stamford; and three granddaughters.

Margaret M. Ames, 84, classics scholar
Margaret Moore Ames of Washington Street, Westport N.Y., a classics scholar, teacher and former school administrator who had lived in Ridgefield for many years, died Friday, June 22, at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital. She was 84 years old and the wife of Russell Ames.
Dr. Ames was born
on Dec. 5, 1916, in Grand Rapids Mich., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Moore. She graduated from Swarthmore College where she majored in classics, and received a doctorate in Latin from the University of Michigan.
A classics scholar, teacher, and author, she had taught at the Riverdale Country School from 1958 until her retirement in 1983. For a while, she was also an assistant headmistress there. Dr. Ames also taught at Hunter College.
She married
Russell Ames, then director of admissions at Riverdale, in 1967, and that year they moved to Pin Pack Road in Ridgefield. The Ameses moved to Westport in 1997.
Besides her husband, Dr. Ames is survived by a son, David Foley of San Francisco, a daughter, Barbara Foley of Orange, N.J., and three grandchildren.
No services are planned at this time.

Janet L. Acorn, 78, worked at Center
Janet L. Acorn of 140 Melbourne Road, Pittsfield, Mass., a former Ridgefielder, died Sunday, July 1, at her home. She was 78 years old.
Born in Springfield, Mass., on Feb. 8, 1923 Mrs. Acorn was the daughter of the late Paul and Catherine MacLaren Langlois. She was educated in Springfield schools and was a graduate of Classical High School in Springfield.
Mrs. Acorn moved to Ridgefield in 1984 and worked at the Community Center. She was also an active member of PEO.
She was the wife of the late Albert H. Acorn III whom she married
in 1946. He died on Feb. 18, 1979.
Mrs. Acorn is survived by a son, David P. Acorn of Bedford Hills, N.Y., and a daughter, Catherine A. Righi and her husband, attorney Alan Righi, both of Pittsfield. She also leaves three grandchildren, Thomas J.C. Righi and his wife Sheri A. Righi, both of Avon, and Kate E. Righi and Daniel C. Righi, both of Pittsfield.
Private funeral services will take place at the convenience of the family.

Frank Warner, 89, banker, civic leader
Frank E. Warner of Boca Raton, Fla., a retired banker who was involved in almost every facet of civic life in Ridgefield, died Monday, Oct. 8, at his home. He was 89 years old.
“Frank Warner wasn’t the first man on the moon. He hasn’t made a million dollars and his name is not a household word,” a Press writer said in 1975. “But he has contributed enormously to his community and has had a good time doing it.”
A native of Jersey City, N.J., Mr. Warner was born
on Aug. 21, 1912, a son of Alfred and Frances Veronica Niick Warner. He grew up in Jersey City, got his first job in a grocery store, and then in 1929 went to work as an inside messenger boy for the New York Trust Company.
“As a 17-year-old, I thought I was pretty important,” he said. “For 15 years I worked in the bank, learning all the departments. I got a good general knowledge of commercial banking. Banking doesn’t pay much, except to the men who own the bank, but there’s prestige in working in a bank.”
While working he studied at the School of Banking at Rutgers University, where he received a degree.
In 1944, he joined the First National Bank and Trust Company of Ridgefield, the town bank that built and operated out of what is now the First Union office on Main Street. His first post was assistant trust officer, and through several mergers he rose through the ranks to become head of the trust department for the Danbury region of the Union Trust Company, predecessor of First Union. He retired in 1973. For the next seven years, he worked a trust consultant for a law firm in Bethel, retiring in 1980.
Mr. Warner came to Ridgefield during the war, and in 1944 and 1945, spent part of his time at the bank and the rest at South Salem Studios, which made scale model ships used in the training of Navy flyers. “Jim Doubleday, president of the bank, was active in the studios and a lot of Ridgefield ladies worked there,” he said in an interview. “I handled the payroll and financing.”
From the mid 1940s until 1975, he was treasurer of the Ridgefield Library Board of Directors. When he started, the library had a budget of $6,000 a year. By his retirement it was $142,000.
In the early 1960s, he became the first male president of the Ridgefield PTA — then one organization serving all the schools. Officers got special pins. “They had no PTA pins for men, so they gave me a woman’s pin,” he recalled with a smile.
A Republican, Mr. Warner was on the Board of Finance for more than 10 years, serving under several town administrations at a time when the board members were appointed, not elected. “That was satisfying work,” he said, “and I felt I was doing a good job, watching out for the town’s purse strings.”
While he was on the Mauwehu Council of the Boy Scouts of America, he went to Washington for the 50th anniversary of boy scouting. “We had dinner with President Eisenhower,” he said. “There are few times in your life you get thrilled, and that was one of them.” He received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America in 1960.
Mr. Warner’s other affiliations included the Lions Club, of which he was once president and the Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department, where he was also treasurer. He led local fundraising campaigns for Danbury Hospital, the American Red Cross and the American Cancer Society. He belonged to the Ridgefield and Danbury Boards of Realtors, and to St. Mary’s Church.
He also belonged to the Ridgewood Country Club and often played golf with such fellow townsmen as Paul Morganti, Judge Reed F. Shields, Judge John E. Dowling, and William H. Casey. Those men were also among the group of lawyers, bankers, real estate, and business people that lunched each Friday at the old King Neptune Restaurant. “They used to love to talk the troubles of the world away,” said his son, William Warner of Danbury.
Grace Warner died in 1982 at the age of 67. Mr. Warner moved to West Lebanon, N.H., a year later, and in 1993 moved to Florida.
Besides his son William, Mr. Warner is survived by two other sons: Francis Warner of San Jose, Calif., and James Warner of East Boston, Mass.; a daughter: Barbara Robert of Boca Raton, Fla.; and by ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Ridgefield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Friends will be received in the Kane Funeral Home 41 Catoonah Street, on Thursday from 5 to 8.

Elfriede M. Von Boelcskevy, accountant
Elfriede M. Von Boelcskevy, 90, of Tackora Trail, wife of the late Laszlo Z. De Boelcskevy and mother of the late Peter R. Smolka, died on Thursday, April 18, at Bethel Healthcare, Bethel.
Mrs. Von Boelcskevy was born
in Zwittau, Czechoslovakia, Aug. 15, 1911. She immigrated to this country in 1955 settling in New York City, where she was an accountant for the Austrian Trade Delegation of Manhattan until 1982.
A resident of Ridgefield since 1969, Mrs. Von Boelcskevy was a member of the Ridgefield O.W.L.S. and the Ridgefield Commuity Center Seniors.
She was an avid bridge and tennis player.
A daughter, Heidi Boelcskevy of Sharon, three stepsons, Andrew Boelcskevy of Needham, Mass., Dr. Bence Boelcskevy of Columbus, Ohio, and Caspar Boelcskevy of Reston, Va., and a granddaughter, Yvonne Michelle Fugate of Waitsfield, Vt., survive her.
Funeral services took place on Saturday in the Kane Funeral Home, Catoonah Street.
Burial will take place in Fairlawn Cemetery.
