Joseph J. Cichon

MIDDLETOWN -- Joseph John Cichon, 81, of Maple Place, Middletown, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden.

He was born in Middletown, a son of the late Stephen J. and Josephine (Rozanski) Cichon Sr. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the City of Middletown in the Public Works Department.

He is survived by four brothers, John Cichon of West Hartford, Walter and his wife, Helen Cichon, Raymond and his wife, Clementine Cichon, Stephen and his wife, Irene Cichon Jr. all of Meriden; also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Ann Cichon.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 8:15 a.m. from the Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown, followed by a 9 a.m. funeral liturgy in St. Mary Church, Middletown. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Biega Funeral Home, Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Mary Church, 79 S. Main St., Middletown, CT 06457.

Walter E. Foote

MERIDEN -- Walter E. Foote, 80, of 360 Broad St., died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at the Miller Memorial Community.

He was born in Haverville, Mass., a son of the late George B. and Bertha Skull Foote. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had worked as a cook at the Hawthorn Hospital in Hawthorn, Calif.

He is survived by two daughters, Karen McCarty of Mobile, Ala., and Janis Caples of Bantam; a son, Ronald Foote of Meriden; three brothers, Erving Foote, Melvin Foote and Russell Foote, all of Florida; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Jeffrey Foote.

A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Saturday, Feb. 17, at 10 a.m. The Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, is in charge of arrangements.

Janet L. Gordon

BOILING SPRINGS, S.C. -- Janet Ann Lafayette Gordon, 46, of 101 Colebrook Court, Boiling Springs, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at her home.

A native of Rutland, Vt., she was the daughter of Andrew Lawrence Lafayette Sr. and Eva Stanowski Lafayette of Rutland, Vt. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Administrative Supplier Council. She was a 1973 graduate of Platt High School and was employed with Lear Corp.

In addition to her parents, survivors include her husband, Daniel Howard Gordon Sr.; a daughter, Angela Marie Gordon; two sons, Daniel Howard Gordon Jr. of Brunswick, Ga., and David Matthew Gordon of 29 Palms, Calif.; two sisters, Christine Ackley of Meriden and Norma Roussea of Rutland, Vt.; two brothers, Andrew Lafayette Jr. and Andre Lafayette of Rutland, Vt.

A Christian wake service will be held Friday (TODAY) at 7 p.m. with visitation following until 9 p.m. at Floyd's North Church, Chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 17, at 10 a.m. in St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church conducted by the Rev. Raymond Carlo. Burial will be in Boiling Springs Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis Hospital, 414 Pettigru St., Greenville, SC 29601.

Charles R. Gormley Jr.

WALLINGFORD -- Charley R. Gormley Jr., of Heritage Woods, Wallingford, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, in his home. He was the beloved husband of Amada(cq) Booc Gormley of Waipahu, Hawaii.

Born in Elmira, N.Y., Oct. 7, 1937, a son of the late Charles K. and Elizabeth R. Romane Gormley, he was a Wallingford resident for the past 10 years. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Mr. Gormley had served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years working in teletype communications until his retirement.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Estela Gormley Daignault of Wallingford, with whom he resided; a son, Joel B. Gormley of Aiea, Hawaii; his grandchildren, Michele Ashley Cabiling of Wallingford and Chelsea Gormley of Aiea, Hawaii; his brothers, James D. Gormley of Bainbridge, N.Y., David Gormley of New York and Vincent Gormley of Afton, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Gormley.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass of Christian burial Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Most Holy Trinity Church. Interment will be private. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford.

Edward M. Hanlon Sr.

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Edward M. Hanlon Sr., 67, of 2711 1st Ave., Fort Myers, Fla., died on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at the Manor Care Skilled Nursing Facility, Ft. Myers, Fla., after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Edward L. and Alice (Williams) Hanlon.

He had resided in Meriden for most of his life until retiring to Ft. Myers, Fla. He was educated at St. Joseph School and the Meriden schools. Mr. Hanlon was employed by the City of Meriden Fire Dept., retiring in 1986 after 30 years of service as a lieutenant. He was a veteran of the Korean War, served with the U.S. Navy, aboard the Aircraft Carrier, Coral Sea. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church and was a past president of the Meriden Division 1 Ancient Order of Hibernians. He also belonged to the American Legion, the VFW and the BPO Elks.

He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathleen A. and James Spencer of Cape Coral, Fla., and Sharon A. Gennaro of Meriden; a son and daughter-in-law, Edward M. and Jeanine Hanlon Jr. of Meriden; four grandchildren, Krista Hanlon, Alyssa Hanlon, Brian Gennaro and Rebecca Hanlon, all of Meriden; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rosemary Sadler of Meriden and Betty and Allen Bruenn of Shalimar, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Lucille Hanlon of Ft. Myers, Fla.; also many nieces and many nephews; and several aunts and uncles.

The funeral will be held on Monday, Feb. 19, at 10:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Meriden. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, Feb. 18, from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Hope Hospice of Lee, 9470 Health Park Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908.

Victoria P. Mickna

EAST DENNIS, Mass. -- Victoria Pyskaty Mickna, 91, of Cedar Hill Road, East Dennis, Mass., formerly of Curtis Street, Wallingford, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at the Cranberry Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in East Dennis. She was the beloved wife of the late Steve Mickna.

Born in Warsaw, Poland, April 7, 1909, she was a daughter of the late John and Caroline Schott Pyskaty and had been a resident of Wallingford for many years. She was employed by the former Stanley Judd Co. of Wallingford for many years until her retirement. She was a parishioner of SS. Peter & Paul Church in Wallingford, and had been a member of the Rosary Society and the Pierogi Ladies.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Statia Lanzoni; and her brother, Stanley Scott.

Her family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Friday (TODAY) from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 8:30 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to SS. Peter and Paul Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. Gifts in her memory may be sent to SS. Peter & Paul Church, 139 N. Orchard St., Wallingford, CT 06492.

Janet M. Pregler

WALLINGFORD -- Janet McColl Inglis Pregler, 69, of Algonquin Drive, Wallingford, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was the beloved wife of John E. Pregler.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, March 14, 1931, she was a daughter of the later Peter Inglis Sr. and Margaret Moore Inglis and had been a Wallingford resident for 40 years. She was a member of the Daughters of Scotia of Stamford, a past president of the Wallingford Republican Women, and an assistant Republican Registrar of Voters in Wallingford for many years. She was a member of the Yalesville United Methodist and was very active on many committees and groups of the church.

Besides her husband, John, she is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Wendy A. and Richard L. Harding of Fairfield, Maine, Donna J. Sprague and her companion, Blaine Gamble of Wallingford; her son and daughter-in-law, Steven E. and Karen Pregler of Meriden; her 12 grandchildren, Richard Harding, Amy Harding, Heather Rochette, Robert Rochette, Kasey Pregler, Kayleigh Sprague, Daniel Sprague, Blain R. Gamble, Tim Gamble, Jessica Gamble, Matthew Gamble and Christina Gamble; her brother, Peter Inglis Jr. of Wallingford; and several nieces and nephews.

Her family will receive relatives and friends at the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Sunday, from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Yalesville United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford. Gifts in her memory may be sent to the Yalesville United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 8 New Place St., Yalesville, CT 06492 or to the Connecticut Hospice, 61 Burban Drive, Branford, CT 06405.

Gina M. Rynaski

SOUTHINGTON -- Gina M. (Sperlazzi) Rynaski, 31, of 161 DeFashion St., Marion section died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at Bradley Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Meriden, on Jan. 15, 1970, the beloved daughter of Geraldine and Robert Weber of S. Meriden and James Sperlazza of San Jose, Calif. She was a graduate of Horace C. Wilcox Technical School in Meriden.

Besides her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandfather, Jerome Panella of Marion; her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Santino Speralzza of Meriden; a stepbrother, Kevin Weber of Wallingford; two stepsisters, Lisa Weber of Manchester, and Lori and Jefferey Dobensky of Meriden; uncles and aunts Jerome and Diane Panella of Plainville, Frank and MaryJane Panella of Middlebury, Edward and Judy Sperlazza of Southington, Gary and Connie Sperlazza of Wallingford; her godmother, Sharon Velodota; a special friend, Stan Montgomery; and many great-aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her maternal grandmother, Madeline Panella.

The funeral will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., to Grace Baptist Church, 55 Country Club Road, Cheshire, at 10 a.m. Calling hours will be Friday (TODAY) from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the charity of the donors choice or Grace Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 55 Country Club Road, Cheshire, CT 06410.

Emily P. Bartholomew

MERIDEN -- Emily Page Bartholomew, 82, of Wilbur Avenue, Meriden, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. She was the beloved wife of the late George V. Bartholomew.

Born in Stony Creek, section of Branford, March 6, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Harry W. and Emma Norton Page, and had been a Meriden resident for 64 years. She was a graduate of Branford High School and had been employed by the former International Silver Co. of Meriden and the former New Departure division of General Motors in Meriden for several years until her retirement. She was a member of the Meriden Emblem Club and a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church in Meriden.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn B. and David A. Maniscalco of Meriden; her two grandchildren, Jody M. Farrell and her husband, Michael J. Farrell of Madison and Michael D. Maniscalco of Meriden; her great-grandson, who gave her such happiness and joy, Ryan Patrick Farrell; her sister, Edith (Mrs. Joseph) Tobin of Branford; her brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Mabel Page of Stony Creek; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Fannie Baker and Hattie Grondin; and three brothers, Raymond, Bernard and Walter Page.

Her family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to St. Rose of Lima Church, in Meriden, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meriden. Gifts in her memory may be sent to the Connecticut State Police Union Scholarship Fund, 1010 Wethersfield Ave., Suite 206, Hartford, CT 06114.
