Pearl Horsfall

MERIDEN -- Pearl Horsfall, 88, of 53 Pine St., wife of the late Harold R. Horsfall, died peacefully on Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at the Bradley Home.

Born in Adams, Mass., on June 12, 1914, the daughter of the late Edward Pevlin and Alma Regnier Bleau and the stepdaughter of the late Zenophil Bleau Sr., she resided in Meriden for 65 years. Mrs. Horsfall attended schools in Adams, was employed by Pratt & Whitney in North Haven, and most recently by Maloney High School. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church.

She is survived by her loving son, Richard H. Horsfall and his wife Anne E. Horsfall of Meriden; four grandchildren, Greg A. Horsfall of Middletown, John P. Muli Jr. and Richard A. Muli, both of Meriden, May F. Zeidenberg and her husband, Rob of Wallingford; three great-grandchildren, Christopher Horsfall of Meriden, Vincent J. Zeidenberg and RJay Zeidenberg, both of Wallingford; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Norman and Marge Bleau of North Adams, Mass., and Zenophil Bleau Jr. of New York; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, Richard W. Horsfall; and one brother, Edward Bleau.

The funeral will be held on Friday, Nov. 15, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Frances P. LaFleur

TEMPLE, N.H. -- Fances (Preece) LaFleur, 85, formerly of Meriden died on Nov. 10, 2002, at the home of her granddaughter in Temple, N.H.

Mrs. LaFleur was born on September 16, 1917, in Hartford, the daughter of Elsie (Frances) and Richard W. Preece. She lived in Meriden for most of her life. She had been a member of the First Congregational Church since 1929, and was active as a Deaconess and with the Merry Maids. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, and line dancing.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, William L. LaFleur; and her daughter, Penelope Stewart. She is survived by four granddaughters, Betsy Simmons of Torrington; Suzette Stewart of Temple, N. H.; Polly Duprez of Brookline, N.H., and Carmen Ferrera of Temple, N.H.; and four great-grandchildren, David Simmons, Michael Simmons, Rachel Duprez and Allison Duprez.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 11 a.m. in the First Congregational Church, 62 Colony St., Meriden, with the Rev. David Snyder officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery in Meriden. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in her name may be made to the First Congregational Church of Meriden, 62 Colony St., Meriden. Jellison Funeral Home, Peterborough, N.H., is handling the arrangements.

Dolores Rasch

MIDDLETOWN -- Dolores (Moriarity) Rasch, 71, of McKenna Drive, Middletown, beloved wife of 49 years of Paul H. Rasch Sr., died Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at the Masonic Healthcare Center in Wallingford.

Born in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late LeRoy and Margaret (Arnold) Moriarity. Mrs. Rasch was a lifelong Middletown resident and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Middletown.

Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Paul H. Rasch Jr. and his wife, Deborah of Fancy Prairie, Ill.; twin daughters, Diane Rasch of Nutley, N.J. and Donna Ferrari Wyman and her husband, Gregory Wyman, of Middletown; one sister, Margaret Fredericks of Florida; five grandchildren, a special friend and grandson, Paul-Douglas Ferrari (75), Amanda and Gillian Rasch and Kevin and Katie Wyman; and her adopted Masonic Healthcare family. She was predeceased by one sister, Mary Lincavicks.

Funeral services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, Middletown, Friday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Bruce A. Steinway, pastor, will officiate and interment will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church St., Middletown, Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Masonic Healthcare Center, c/o Wooster 2 Recreation Program, 22 Masonic Ave., P.O. Box 70, Wallingford 06492.

Gladys E. Sittnick

WALLINGFORD -- Gladys E. Eichorn Sittnick, 90, of New Place St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, in the MidState Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Charles A. Sittnick.

Born in Meriden, Feb. 5, 1912, a daughter of the late Karl and Hilda Massow Eichorn, she was a Yalesville resident for many years. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Sittnick is survived by her daughter, Beverly J. Sittnick of Yalesville; her two grandchildren and their spouses, Diane Couillard and her husband, Robert Couillard of Wolcott and Donna Kirby and her husband, William Kirby of Middletown; her four great-grandchildren, Jacquelyn Couillard, Michael Couillard, Kevin Couillard and Bryan Kirby; her sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Clarence Morin of Yalesville; her brother, Walter Eichorn of Yalesville; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Lester Eichorn.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Yalesville Funeral Home 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church, 235 Pond Hill Road, Wallingford. The Rev. Robert Hass will officiate. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden.

Clara Abata

SOUTHINGTON -- Clara (Honko) Abata, 67, of 30 Peters Circle, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at the home of her son. She was the widow of John L. Abata.

Born in New Britain on Feb. 27, 1935, the daughter of the late Joseph and MaryAnna (Bula) Honko. Prior to her retirement she had been employed by Gibbs Wire & Steel Co. in Plantsville. She was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church and a member of the Ladies Guild. She was also a member of the Southington Calendar House.

She is survived by her son, Alfred and his wife, Cheryl Gerwatowski of Woodstock; three grandchildren, Joshua of Southington and Devon and Jacob of Woodstock; a niece, Rachel Bordiere; a nephew, Richard Bordiere; and several cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Joanna Bordiere; and a nephew, Robert Bordieri.

The Funeral will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Church. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to Hospice of Northeast CT, Pomfret St., (Rt.44) Putnam, CT 06260 or Hospice of Central CT, P.O Box 1327, New Britain, CT 06505.

Gerald E. Costello

MERIDEN -- Gerald (Jerry) E. Costello, 49, of Meriden, died suddenly at home on Nov. 11, 2002.

Born in Meriden, son of the late Robert E. and Shirley Page Costello, he was a graduate of Platt High School. He served in the U.S. Army in Virginia as a bugler in the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corp. He was a also a member of the Yankee Pedlar Drum Corps of South Meriden.

He is survived by two sons, James Edward Costello and Robert Michael Costello; three sisters, Kathleen Casarella, Colleen Costello and Eileen Costello; also several nephews. A brother, Maurice K. DeWitt, predeceased him.

Gravesides services with military honors will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 9:30 a.m. at the Center Street Cemetery in Wallingford. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Lung Association of CT., 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT 06108-2372. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden

Pearl Horsfall

Dominic J. Macri

MERIDEN -- Dominic J. Macri, 73, of 6 Converse Circle and Old Saybrook, husband of Theresa Candito Macri, died on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002 at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness. Dominic joins his daughter, Donna Macri Ulatowski in heaven.

Born in Meriden on Jan. 29, 1929, the son of the Frank and Maria Macri, he was a lifelong resident of Meriden and a graduate of Meriden High School. Mr. Macri was a retired firefighter for the City of Meriden and a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army. He was a parishioner of Mount Carmel Church, a member of the Columbus Park Bocci Club, and an avid New York Yankees fan.

Besides his wife, Theresa, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Macri Skorupski and Mathew Skorupski of Bristol; a grandson, Michael Joseph Skorupski, who was his pride and joy; a son-in-law, Carl Ulatowski Jr. of Berlin; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Anthony Macri of Meriden and Rocco and Grace Macri of Southington; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Macri Ulatowski.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Should friends desire, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.

John Smayda Sr.

MANCHESTER -- John Smayda Sr., 74, of Manchester, beloved husband of Mary (Paskewich) Smayda, died peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Derby, and was the son of the late Dimitri and Anna Smayda. He was predeceased by a sister, Doris Mazur of Huntington. In 1946, John joined the U.S. Army 31st Infantry Regiment and served in the occupation forces of South Korea. After being discharged, he received a degree in Business Administration from the University of Connecticut. He worked for McKesson and Robbins Drug Wholesale for five years and Bristol Myers Pharmaceuticals for 27 years.

Besides his wife he is survived by his sons, John Jr. and his wife, Susan of Southington, Thomas and his wife, Lisa of Palmer, Alaska and Gregory and his wife, Kelly of Tolland; He also leaves two grandchildren, Lauren and Emily Smayda of Palmer, Alaska.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Nov. 16, 10 a.m. at All Saints Russian Orthodox Church, 205 Scarborough St., Hartford. Burial will follow in the East Cemetery, Manchester. Visiting hours are Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Watkins Funeral Home, 142 East Center St., Manchester. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society (Manchester North Unit), 538 Preston Ave., P.O. Box 1004, Meriden, CT 06450.
