Pablo Torres

MERIDEN -- Pablo Torres, 70, of Curtis Street, died peacefully in his sleep on Nov. 23, 2002, at Westfield Care and Rehab in Meriden.

He was born Aug. 7, 1932, in Aguada P.R.

He is survived by his close friends of Curtis Street in Meriden. He will be missed by his roommates and friends.

Calling hours will take place Friday from 10 to 12 noon. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden, with the Rev. Edmond S. Nadolny of St. Stanislaus Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory should be made to St. Stanislaus Church, 8 Akron St., Meriden. The Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 East Main St., Meriden had charge of arrangements.

Mary Chiaramonte

MERIDEN -- Mary Chiaramonte of 61 Jodi Drive, wife of the late John Chiaramonte died late Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002 at MidState Medical Center.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Guiseppe and Rose (Modica) DeMaggio and had resided in Meriden the past 28 years. Mrs. Chiaramonte was educated in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church.

She is survived by two daughters an sons-in-law, Joan and Arthur Landes of Meriden and Mary Chiaramonte of Denver, Colo.; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Marty Chiaramonte of Chattanooga, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Lisa, Greg, David, John, Peter and Steven; three sisters, Tess DeMaggio of Stamford, Fran DeMaggio of Stamford and Rose DeMaggio of Flushing, N.Y. She was predeceased by a brother; and three sisters.

The funeral will be held on Monday, Dec. 2, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, Dec. 1, from 2 to 6 p.m.

James H. Hocking

WALLINGFORD -- James H. Hocking, 83, of 65 Masonic Ave., formerly of 546 Church St., Yalesville died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002 at the Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center, Wallingford. He was the husband of Barbara Harrison Hocking.

He was born in Wallingford, Feb. 26, 1919, a son of the late James and Ellen Prouty Hocking. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Patricia Bourgeois of East Haddam and Gail Bighinati of Yalesville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Berniece Carlson.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center, 22 Masonic Ave., Wallingford. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private. If friends so desire, gifts in his memory may be made to the Yalesville United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 8 New Place St., Yalesville, CT 06492.

Charles O'Brien

MERIDEN -- Charles O'Brien passed away Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002 at UConn Medical Center.

Charles was born in Waterbury, a son of the late Thomas and Mary O'Brien of Waterbury. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He is survived by his brother, Thomas and his wife, Mary O'Brien of Meriden; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sisters, Rose Anderson and Mary Clark.

A funeral service will be held Monday, Dec. 2 at 9 a.m. in the Veterans Home Chapel, Rocky Hill with burial following immediately. There will be no calling hours.

Mary Thibodeau

MERIDEN -- Mary Riberio Thibodeau, 91, formerly of Hanover St., Meriden, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002 at Coccomo Memorial Healthcare Center. She was predeceased by her first husband Joseph Riberio and her second husband AI Thibodeau.

Born in Brazil, Oct. 15, 1911, a daughter of the late Joao and Marie da Conceicao D' Almeida, she had been a Meriden resident for many years. She had been a health aide for Homemaker Service in Meriden for many years until her retirement, and was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Riberio; and two daughters and a son-in-law, Lucy Golden and Doris and Roger Saucier, all of Meriden; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Piadad Dias and Laura Cruz and her husband, King, all of Wallingford and Irene Pereira of Meriden; three brothers, Adrien Almeida of New York, Tony D' Almeida and his wife, Juliette of Wallingford and Amaro Silva and his wife, Jean of Hickory, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Dorothy Porter; her son, Albert Riberio; and two sisters, Mary Todescini and Virginia Urbano.

Funeral services will be held Saturday from The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford at 9 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to St. Joseph Church, Meriden, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Dr., Wallingford, CT 06492, or the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450.

Ortenzia DeLizio

HAMDEN -- Ortenzia "Tashia" DeLizio, 83, of Burke St., died Nov. 29, 2002. She was the widow of Louis DeLizio.

She was born in Hamden, Sept. 28, 1919, the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Bosco Cantarella, and was a member of the St. Rita Rosary Society.

She is survived by daughters, Mrs. Daniel (Judith) DeGennaro of Wallingford, Mrs. Gary (Linda) Pedersen of Northford, and Pamela DeLizio of Hamden; a sister, Mrs. Guido (Francis) Gasperini of Wallingford; grandmother of Michele (Marry) Tangredi, Patty (Michael) Gaudio, Dawn (Mike) Walczak and Gary (Carolyn) Pedersen; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by sisters, Rena Manenti and Louise DeMaio; and brothers, Michael, Louis and Frederick Cantarella.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. from the Peter H. Torello & son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, and at St. Ann's Church at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Conn. Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT.

Matthew R. Duksa Sr.,

Matthew R. Duksa Sr., 80, of Newington, CT, died suddenly at his home on Thursday, November 28, 2002, after spending Thanksgiving with his family. He was the beloved husband and very best friend of Dorothy (Kania) Duksa, with whom he celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on November 22.

Son of the late Joseph and Frances (Smoron) Duksa, he was born and raised on the family's dairy farm, Oak Bluff Farm, on West St. in Southington and he was a Newington resident since 1952. Matt graduated from Lewis High School and attended Cheshire Academy, and Connecticut College of Commerce, New Haven. He graduated Magna Cum Laude, from the McAllister School of Embalming, New York City, where he received his Mortuary Science Degree. In 1949, he became a partner with Borawski-Duksa Funeral Home, now Burritt Hill Funeral Home, in New Britain, where he continued to operate the funeral home with Stanley H. Borawski until his death in 1993. In 1952, he established the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, presently in its 50th year. Matt was currently President of both funeral homes and remained actively involved in his family business along with his wife and children, all licensed funeral directors. His funeral homes were recently honored by the University of Connecticut Family Business Program as a 2002 Connecticut Family Business of the Year. His kind and gentle manner was evident in so many ways, especially when caring for families he served throughout the years. Matt was a member of St. Mary's Church, Newington, and Holy Cross Church and its Holy Name Society, and Sacred Heart Church and its Holy Name Society, both of New Britain. He was a former member of the Newington Volunteer Fire Dept. Co. No. 1 for 16 years and a member of the Newington Veteran Firemen's Association. He was a Director of the Newington Volunteer Ambulance Corps for many years. Matt was Chairman of the West Meadow Cemetery Building Committee Phase I, and a member of the West Meadow Cemetery Expansion Committee. He was also a member of the Newington Knights of Columbus Council No. 3884, 3rd and 4th Degree, the Polish American Club of Newington, and a former member of the Newington Kiwanis Club. He was a Director of the Peoples Savings Bank of New Britain (now Webster Bank) for many years and was a Corporator of New Britain General Hospital. Mattie was a longtime member of the 44 Club and served as co-chairman of annual scholarship Game Dinners and was an active member and chairman of its Pine Cone Scholarship Committee. In 1997, he received the Newington Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year. He was a member of the Polish Professional Businessmen's Association and a former member of Falcons Nest No. 88 and the Polish National Alliance. He enjoyed saltwater fishing, trapping lobsters, claming and scalloping in Martha's Vineyard, fly fishing locally and for salmon on the Miramichi River, New Brunswick, Canada with his son Matt. He was a member of the Atlantic Salmon Federation, the Connecticut River Salmon Association, the New England Salmon Association and the Miramichi Salmon Association of New Brunswick, Canada. He was a member of the Coventry Fish and Game Club, the Bell City Fish and Game Club of East Hampton, and a former member of the Limestone Trout Club, East Canaan. He was a member of Shuttle Meadow Country Club, Kensington, and a former member of the Indian Hill Country Club, Newington, for 26 years. Matt was a longtime member of the YMCA Health Club, New Britain, where he played racquetball. He was a member of the Connecticut Funeral Directors Association, the National Funeral Directors Association, and Selected Independent Funeral Directors.

He was the most devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, and along with his wife, Dottie, he leaves his daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Jim Kurz, his son and daughter-in-law, Matthew R. Duksa, Jr., and his wife Lisa, and his four adoring grandchildren, Jim and Kristy Kurz and Johanna and Jacqueline Duksa, all of Newington. He also leaves his sister, Helen Jankowski, and his brother and sister-in-law, Zigmon and Clara Duksa, all of Southington; his sister-in-law, Anna Duksa of West Hartford; his mother-in-law, Anna Kania of Southington; and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Emma Duksa, his brother, Dr. Walter J. Duksa, and his brother-in-law, Joseph Jankowski. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and couldn't help but love him for his integrity, his twinkling blue eyes, his contagious sense of humor, his endless curiosity, and his love for life.

His funeral service will be Wednesday, 9:00 a.m., from the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, 626 Willard Ave., Newington. Interment will be in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Newington Memorial. Norman A. Faust

SOUTHINGTON -- Norman A. Faust, 78, of Southington, formerly of Westport, husband of the late Jennie Festa Faust, died Wednesday, Nov. 27th in New Britain General Hospital, New Britain, Connecticut.

Mr. Faust was born in Hazleton, Pa., son of the late Arthur and Gertrude Applegate Faust. Before moving to Southington one year ago he had resided in Westport for 59 years. Prior to retiring in 1986, Mr. Faust was employed by Burndy Corporation for 31 years. He is a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was also predeceased by four brothers, Alvin, Herman, Harvey and Raymond Faust.

Survivors include three sons, Donald S. Faust of Norwalk, Norman J. Faust of Southwick, Mass., Gary T. Faust of Southington; one daughter, Susan M. Robling of Southington; one brother, Ernest Faust of Brownsville, Texas ; one sister, Esther Britto of Bridgeport; 14 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will take place Tuesday at 11 a.m. (directly) in the Norwalk United Methodist Church, 718 West Ave., Norwalk, CT. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Norwalk, CT. There will be no calling hours. The Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Rd. E., Westport is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT 06108.

William D. Giordano

WALLINGFORD -- William D. Giordano, 81, of 33 Parkview Rd., Wallingford, died Nov. 30, 2002. He was the husband of Hilda Ferrari Giordano.

He was born in Hamden, Aug. 1, 1921, the son of the late William and Mary Gaudio Giordano and was a mechanical engineer at Pratt & Whitney for 35 years, retiring in 1972. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a POW in Africa and Italy, having escaped several times. He was a Deacon at Our Lady of Fatima Church from 1988 to 1996.

Besides his wife, he leaves daughters, Catherine Foote of Meriden and Mary Ann Klimaszewski of Wallingford; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was predeceased by sisters, Rosaline Fiondella and Amelia Baker; and a brother, Walter Giordano.

Friends are invited to go directly to, Our Lady of Fatima Church, Wallingford, Tuesday at 10 a.m. for a Mass of Christian burial. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park, Hamden. Friends may call Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, CT.
