Ruth L. Pritt
SOUTHINGTON -- Ruth Louise (Lane) Pritt, 91, formerly of 1 Riverside St., and of Marion, died Wednesday at the Masonic Geriatric Care Center, Wallingford. She was the widow of William T. Pritt Sr.
Mrs. Pritt was born Feb. 17, 1911 in Waterville, daughter of the late Ralph and Josephine (Grant) Lane. She was a retired office worker, having been employed by American Brass and later with Gabriel Price, CPA in Milldale, for many years. She had resided in Marion for over 50 years. Mrs. Pritt was very active in the PTA while her children were in school and was a member of the Southington Women's Club. She was a member of DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution,) Hannah Woodruff Chapter, a member of the Plantsville Congregational Church where she was a member of the choir for many years and also served as a deacon. While a resident at the Masonic Home, she was involved with the bell choir and sang with their church choir.
She leaves a son, William T. Pritt Jr. and his wife, Emily of Marion; a daughter, Lois P. Mattson of Plantsville and her husband, Jon; she was the beloved grandmother of five, David Pritt, Elizabeth Pritt Mullen, Eric, Carlen Mattson and Jill Smart; and beloved great-grandmother of eight; also a niece and nephew.
A memorial service will be held on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Plantsville Congregational Church on the corner of West and Church streets, Plantsville. Burial will be in spring in Wonx Spring Cemetery, Plantsville. There are no calling hours. The Slater Funeral Home, 242 South Main St., Cheshire, is in charge of arrangements.
John E. Pulaski, M.D.
NEWINGTON -- John E. Pulaski, M.D., 85, of Newington, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Hartford Hospital after a short illness. He was the beloved husband of Virginia (Lach) Pulaski for 52 years.
He was born and raised in Meriden, one of 13 children of the late Joseph and Mary (Banaszewski) Pulaski. In his youth, he excelled in academics and sports. In his late teens he turned down an offer to attend professional golf school, deciding instead to pursue a career in medicine. He never forgot that three of his siblings died of childhood illnesses, and his love of science and medicine was kindled by intellectual curiosity and a profound belief that medical pursuits could lead to much good in the world. After graduating from Providence College and Georgetown Medical School, he joined the U.S. Navy and served as a lieutenant in the medical corps on destroyers in both the Pacific and Atlantic fleets. After World War II he completed a residency in internal medicine at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford and a fellowship in pathology at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington . He opened his private practice in the South End of Hartford in 1949. Shortly thereafter, he was called back by the U.S. Navy in the Korean War and served on the hospital ship Constellation, which later became the Hope. Except for his wartime duty he actively practiced medicine from 1949 until August 2002 when he retired. He was devoted to his patients, many of whom were Polish-speaking first- and second-generation immigrants who called Hartford their home. He never hesitated making house calls even in his early '80s. He served as a staff physician at both Hartford and St. Francis Hospitals and was the medical director at Bel-Air Manor for many years. A devout Catholic, he was a member of St. Mary's Church, Newington and St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church, Hartford, and was active in the church's Renew movement. An avid golfer, he was a 50-year member of Indian Hill Country Club, Newington. He was also a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), the Connecticut Medical Society, Hartford County Medical Association, the Newington Kiwanis Club and a 3rd-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Newington.
A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, he leaves his six children, Dr. John Pulaski and his wife, Sharon of Middlebury, Dr. Phillip Pulaski and his wife, Elizabeth Donnelly of Belmont, Mass., Bonnie Parry and her husband, James of Glastonbury, Stephen Pulaski, M.S.W., of Noank, Dr. Mary Pulaski and her husband, Dr. Joseph Ray of Nottingham, N.H., Anne Pulaski and her husband, Frank Ferraro of Philadelphia; his 12 grandchildren; he also leaves his brother and two sisters, Rev. Joseph Pulaski, M.M., Mary Osowicki, both of Meriden, and Theresa Saunders of Rockland, Md.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Dana DeBiasi; and his nine brothers; and sisters. His funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 8, at 8:45 am. from the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9:45 am. at St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church, 285 Church St., Hartford. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Newington Memorial. Memorial donations may be made to the John E. Raymond J. Slivinski
FLORENCE, S.C. -- Mr. Raymond J. Slivinski, 69, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, in a local hospital. He was the husband of Carol Porter Slivinski.
Born March 19, 1933 in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late William and Josephine Pliska Slivinski. Mr. Slivinski was a retired supervisor from United Aircraft. He was active in Little League and Boy Scouting in Bridgeport.
In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by sons, William Joseph Slivinski of Malabar, Fla., Raymond James Slivinski of Wallingford, Christopher Richard Slivinski of Colchester and Douglas David Slivinski of Blue Springs, Mo.; a brother, Richard Slivinski of Bridgeport; a sister, Leona Rainer of Fairfield; and 14 grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 in Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, directed by Cain-Poston Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence, 3370 Young Charles Drive. The family suggests memorials to Alzheimer's Association, P.O. 7044, Columbia, S.C. 29202. Cain-Poston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
C. George Slobko
MERIDEN -- C. George Slobko, 60, of Meriden, husband of the late Eugenia (Jean) Slobko, died on Tuesday, Feb.4, 2003, at his home.
He was born in Meriden on Oct. 11, 1942, he was the son of Victoria (Zayac) Slobko of Wallingford and the late Clem Slobko. He had resided in Meriden most of his life, and was education in the Meriden schools, The Hartford Institute and West Palm Beach, Fla. Mr. Slobko was employed by J.J. Ryan Co. of Southington. He served with the Connecticut National Guard.
He is survived by one daughter, Jennifer K. Slobko of Meriden; one sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and John J. Kruczek of Wallingford; and is also survived by two nephews.
The complete funeral arrangements for the calling hours and funeral service will be announced in Friday's edition of the Record-Journal. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.
Margaret E. Sujdak
WALLINGFORD -- Margaret E. Sujdak, 78, dear wife and best friend of Robert A. Sujdak, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Bridgeport Hospital, Oct. 31, 1924, the daughter of Helen and Raymond Bassett. She lived and attended schools in Stratford. A graduate of Bridgeport School of Nursing in 1945, she worked in a California Veterans Hospital during the expected invasion of Japan. On her return, she worked at Bridgeport Hospital, raised a son and daughter, also worked at Meriden Hospital and a nursing home on Cape Cod and retired from Westfield Care and Rehab Center.
She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Goldbach; a son and daughter-in-law, Kurt and Patty Goldbach; a special granddaughter, Sarah Richards; and a granddaughter, Beth Goldbach.
Arrangements have been made with the Colonial Funeral Home, Hamden. There will be no visiting hours and interment will be private. Contributions in her name may be made to Hospice, 110 Barnes Road, Wallingford, CT 06492.
Alma Bayne
WALLINGFORD -- Alma Ferguson Bayne, 85, formerly of 56 Pine St., died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at the Regency House of Wallingford. She was the wife of the late William J. Bayne.
She was born in Northford, April 17, 1917 a daughter of the late Charles and Lena Gribus Ferguson. Until her retirement, she was a production worker at the Stanley Judd Company. She had been a lifelong resident of Northford and Wallingford and was a member of the First Congregational Church of Wallingford.
She is survived by a son, Dr. William F. Bayne of Valley Forge, Pa.; a daughter, Susan Jannish of Mt. Prospect, Ill.; two brothers, Lowell Ferguson of West Pawlet, Vt., and Fred Ferguson of Northford; three sisters, Irene Drozdz of Northford, Juliet Kumnick of Tallahassee, Fla., and Edith Beckley of Wallingford; three grandchildren, William J. Bayne, Jacqueline R. Bayne and Sara L. Wallenius; and a great-granddaughter, Annelise Simes. She was predeceased by four brothers, Earl Ferguson, Tracy Ferguson, Philo Ferguson and Floyd Ferguson; and three sisters, Doris Messier, Elsie Kastukevich and Gertrude Salg.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Wallingford, 23 South Main St. Burial will be at In Memoriam Cemetery. Friends may call at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m.
Helen S. Brouillard
LITCHFIELD -- Helen S. "Hetch" Brouillard, 73, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Theodore J. Brouillard of Litchfield.
Mrs. Brouillard was born on Jan. 15, 1930, in Southington, the daughter of the late Michael Shabon and Anna (Gladke) Shabon. Mrs. Brouillard worked for The Travelers Insurance Company and retired after 24 years as a medical transcriptionist from St. Mary's Hospital, Waterbury. She enjoyed bird watching and camping with her beloved husband with the North American Family Campers Association. She was a member of St. Peter Church and a Boston Red Sox fan.
Besides her beloved husband, Theodore, she leaves two stepdaughters, Mary Ann Brouillard of Fairfield and Alice Lapierre of Torrington; one sister, Ann-Marie Greene of Southington; two godchildren, Debbie Kania of Southington and Michael Greene of Las Vegas, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews of Southington. She was predeceased by two sisters, Marie Patla and Kathleen Greene.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 8, at 9:30 a.m. from The LaPorta Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Peter Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at The LaPorta Funeral Home. Directions to The LaPorta Funeral Home or to St. Peter Church.
John Czaja
NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- John Czaja, 86, formerly of Wallingford, Conn., died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003 at Hernando-Pasco Hospice, New Port Richey, Fla.
Born in Manchester, N.H., he moved to Florida in 1980 after retiring from Allegheny Ludlum Steel Co., where he had worked for 40 years as a sheet metal shearer. He was a member of the New Port Richey Moose Lodge, Polish-American Social Club of Hudson, Polish National Alliance and Our Lady of Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; two daughters, Jennie Canterbury and Wanda Ramm, both of Port Richey, Fla.; two sons, Richard and John, both of Wallingford; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother and three sisters of Poland.
Kathryn M. Fenton
WALLINGFORD -- Kathryn M. Fenton, 82, of Deer Run Road, Wallingford, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at the Skyview Center in Wallingford. She was the beloved wife of 40 years of the late William Charles Fenton Sr.
Born in New Haven, Jan. 30, 1921, she had been a Wallingford resident for 46 years. She had been employed by the Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford for many years until her retirement and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Robert Weiner of Orlando, Fla.; her son, Richard R. Fenton of Wallingford; her granddaughter, Stacey Miller and great grandchildren, Savannah and Austin Miller, all of Weaverville, N.C.; her two sisters, Victoria MacLellan of North Haven and Ann Shields of New Haven; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, William Charles Fenton Jr.; a sister, Ethel Sullivan; and a brother, Laurence Torcellini.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from the Yalesville Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery
