David W. Borchardt

MERIDEN -- David W. Borchardt, 83, of Meriden, husband of the late Elizabeth Souchuns Borchardt, died on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003 at the MidState Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Meriden on April 15, 1919, he was the son of the late William O. and Lydia Villwork Borchardt. He had resided in Meriden for his entire life and had attended the local schools. He was employed by Allegheny-Ludlum Steel Co. of Wallingford for some 33 years, retiring in 1981. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was a member of the Meriden Turner Halle.

He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Lloyd Mumford of Phoenix, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held on Monday, Feb. 17, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden with the Rev. David Brinkley of St. John Lutheran Church officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Gethsemane Cemetery in the spring. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Franciscan Life Center, 271 Finch Ave., Meriden, CT 06451.

Robert E. Cossette

STAMFORD -- Robert E. Cossette, 76, a retired television and radio technician, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 at Stamford Hospital after a short illness.

Born March 15, 1926 in Meriden, he was a son of the late Emile and Gertrude Niland Cossette. He attended Meriden schools, and was a veteran U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Gacher Cossette of Stamford; a daughter, Susan Cossette Eng of Darien; a brother, Donald Cossette of Meriden; two sisters, Anita Adduci of Meriden and Joan Lobb of Merritt Island, Fla.; a grandson; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Cossette was predeceased by a sister, Gertrude Cossette; and two brothers, Walter and Lawrence Cossette.

Services were held at St. Bridget of Ireland Church, Stamford with burial in St. John's Cemetery in Darien.

Maurice F. Foran

MERIDEN -- Maurice F. Foran, 91, of Castle Drive, Meriden died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003 at Westfield Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of Johnine (Szczepanik) Foran.

Maurice was born Oct. 27, 1911 in East Hartford, a son to the late Nicholas and Ella (Fitzgerald) Foran. Mr. Foran was an U.S. Army veteran, having served his country during World War II. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for Cuno Engineering.

Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a son, John (Mark) and his daughter-in-law, Ruth (Elaine) Foran of Whitneyville; three daughters, Jean F. Petroski of Farmington, Mary M. Foran of Meriden and Elizabeth F. Galey of Columbia; he is also survived by five grandchildren, John, Steven and Jill Petroski of Farmington and James and Laura Galey of Coventry; five brothers, Donald Foran of Glastonbury, David Foran of New Port Richey, Fla., Nicholas Foran of Broad Brook, James Foran of Farmington and John Foran of Norfolk, Va. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary V. Foran; and a brother, Thomas Foran.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb 17, at St. Joseph Church West Main St., Meriden. Burial to follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, Feb. 16, from 2 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory can be made to the Meriden Public Library 105 Miller St. Meriden, 06450 The Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home 189 East Main St. Meriden has charge of arrangements.

Joseph Harrington

SOUTHINGTON -- Joseph Harrington, 81, of 6 Carter Lane, Plantsville section, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003 at Southington Care Center. He was the husband of the late Millie (Raymond) Harrington.

Born on Jan. 17, 1922 in Topsham, Maine, the son of the late Joseph and Bertha (Temple) Harrington. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Prior to his retirement 22 years ago he was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 29 years. Mr. Harrington was a member of the VFW and the 83rd Division of the Thunderbolt's.

He is survived by his children, Marsha and her husband, Steven McCarty of Meriden, David Harrington of Southington, Dana and his wife, Linda Harrington of New Britain; five grandchildren, Christopher McCarty, Joel McCarty, Bryan McCarty, Tamarah Smith and Kylie Harrington; three great-grandchildren, Devyn, Logan and Andrew; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Gregory Harrington; four brothers, Maxwell, Merrill, Gerald and Byron Harrington.

The funeral will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington. Burial with military honors will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Donations may be made in his memory to the Franciscan Home Care Center, 267 Finch Ave., Meriden, CT 06450.

Thomas J. Moore

MERIDEN -- Thomas Joseph "Hoppy" Moore, 79, of 7 Webb St., South Meriden, died on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003 at the MidState Medical Center.

Born in Meriden on Jan. 19, 1924, he was the son of the late William F. and Mary Ellen (Scollan) Moore. He resided in Meriden all of his life and had educated in the Meriden schools. He was employed by New Departure Hyatt Bearing Division of General Motors for 44 years. Many will remember him as a man who gave to all and wanted nothing in return. He will be missed by many, especially by Francis G. Marcus and Philip E. Albert and their families whom he had become part of.

He was predeceased by a sister, Irene Moore.

The funeral will be held on Monday, Feb. 17, at 10:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Meriden. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 9 to 10:30 am. Prior to the service.

Genevieve A. Tutak

MERIDEN -- Genevieve Ann Zawacki Tutak, 81, of Englewood, Fla., a native of Meriden, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, in St. Petersburg, Fla.

She was born May 26, 1921, daughter of the late Daniel and Ann Astramowicz Zawacki. Mrs. Tutak and her husband moved to the Englewood area in 1989 from Falls Village, CT. She had been a Stenographer for 10 years in the Engineering Department of Becton-Dickenson Company in North Canaan. She was a member of St Francis Assisi Church and the Women's Guild of the parish in Englewood, and had been a parishioner of St. Stan's Church and a member of the Children of Mary in Meriden.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years Thaddeus Tutak of Englewood, Fla.; her son, Daniel Tutak of Missouri City, Texas ; two daughters, Christine Tutak of Antrin, N.H.; and Mary Jane Gahagan of Colleyville, Texas ; two brothers, Anthony Zawacki of Meriden and Matthew Zawacki of Englewood, Fla.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Tuesday, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. when the funeral cortege will proceed to SS. Peter and Paul Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Wallingford.

Elizabeth G. Conheady

WALLINGFORD -- Elizabeth G. "Betty" Conheady, 94, formerly of South Main St., Wallingford, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at Skyview Center.

Betty was born in Wallingford, Dec. 25, 1908, a daughter of the late James and Mary Conheady, who emigrated from Ireland in the late 1880s, and was a lifelong resident here. She attended local schools, was a graduate of the College of New Rochelle, and had been proprietor of The Little Card Shoppe in Wallingford for many years. The Conheady family operated the Oakdale Tavern in Wallingford from 1935 until 1961, when it was sold. She was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church.

She is survived by her nephew and nieces, James B. and Carol Conheady of New York City, N.Y., Carol (Mrs. Thomas) Ahearn of Derby, Ann (Mrs. Robert) Fritz of Wallingford, and Rae Fritz of Winnetka, Ill.; several grandnieces and grandnephews; and her dear friend, Jan Cremo of Wallingford. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Nora Conheady Fritz and Mary R. Conheady; four brothers, Thomas Conheady, James Conheady, William Conheady, and John Conheady; and two nephews, Robert Fritz and William Fritz.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Most Holy Trinity Church. Interment will be private in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Wallingford. There will be no calling hours. Gifts in her memory may be sent to Most Holy Trinity Church Preservation Project, 68 North Colony St., Wallingford, CT 06492, or to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St Ext., Wallingford.

Mary Dontigney

MERIDEN -- Mary Dontigney, 93, of 320 Colony St., wife of the late Lester Dontigney, died on Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Meriden on Dec. 29, 1909, she was the daughter of the late James and Bridget Cashman. She was a lifelong Meriden resident and had attended the Meriden schools and graduated from Meriden High School. She was employed by the SNET Co. for many years. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Mary Ellen Dontigney of Durham and Philip and Linda Dontigney of Meriden; two grandchildren, Shawn Dontigney of Omaha, Neb. and Jill Dontigney of Middletown; one sister, Catherine Krick of Massachusetts. She is also survived by several nieces and several nephews, and was predeceased by two brothers, James and Joseph Cashman.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Meriden. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bradley Home, 320 Colony St., Meriden, CT 06451. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.

Irene E. Glatfelter

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. -- Irene Eleanor Larson Glatfelter, 78, of Englewood, Fla., passed away on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003.

She was born November 11, 1924 in New Haven, and moved to this Florida in 1986 from Wallingford. Irene was the Director of Nurses in Wallingford Convalescent Home from 1966 to 1986. Also, with Yale New Haven Hospital, Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford, and Englewood Health Care Center in Englewood, Fla. She received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Kurvin J.; daughters, Linda J. Cox of Meriden, Laurie J. Kasak of Naugatuck, Nora E. Kenney of Englewood, Fla.; son, Stephen L. Glatfelter of New London; brothers, Elmer D. Larson of Branford and Kenneth A. Larson of Southington; grandchildren, Jennifer L. Neville of Meriden, Adam C. Canning of Englewood, Fla.; three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three sisters; and two brothers.

Memorial services were held in Englewood, Fla., and services will be at St. John's the Evangelist Church, 360 Church St., Route 68, Yalesville, Feb. 22, at 4 p.m. Flowers or donations may be made to the Amber Lake Wildlife Refuge, 297 Artists Ave., Englewood, Fla., 34223 or to the Pelican Man's Bird Sanctuary, 1708 Ken Thompson Parkway, Sarasota, Fla. 34236.
