Pasqualina Pisanelli
Pasqualina Pisanelli of Stamford died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001 at home. She was 85.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born Jan. 13, 1916, in Minturno, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Antonio and Elizabeth Conte .
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by five sons, Nicole "Nick" Pisanelli, Antonio Pisanelli, Giovanni "John" Pisanelli, Mario Pisanelli and Benedetto "Benny" Pisanelli, all of Stamford; a daughter, Concetta Polimeni of Stamford; four sisters, Giovannina Ciacearella of Bridgeport, and Maria , Emilia , and Peppina, all of Minturno, Italy; and 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gaetano Pisanelli; and a brother, Antonio Conte.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 19, 2001 at Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Ave., Stamford.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001 at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Ave., Stamford.
Entombment will follow at St. John's Mausoleum, Darien.
Catherine L. Williams
Catherine L. Williams of New Canaan,
a former resident of Greenwich and Stamford, died Thursday, Jan. 18. 2001 She was 72.
She died of kidney failure, according to her family.
Born July 14, 1928, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Constantine and Calliope Lozos.
Mrs. Williams was a graduate of Pennsylvania State University and earned a master's degree in gerontology at Bridgeport University.
She volunteered for many years at the pastoral care unit at the former St. Joseph's Hospital in Stamford.
She was a homemaker and worked as a sales representative at the former D.W. Rogers in Greenwich and Lord & Taylor in Stamford.
Her first husband, Alex Mauro, died of polio one year before Jonas Salk discovered the polio vaccine. Mrs. Williams had written Salk to thank him for his work.
Mrs. Williams is survived by a son, Norman Williams of Vernon, Calif.; four daughters, Lynne Williams of Boston, Alexis Friend of East Haven, Sandra Morano of New Canaan and Lorraine Humphrey of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and 10 grandchildren.
In addition to her first husband, she was predeceased by her second husband, Robert I. Williams.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001 at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 2001 at Church of the Archangels, 1527 Bedford St., Stamford.
Burial is private.
Helen Masterson
Helen Masterson of Trumbull, a former Stamford resident, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001 at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport. She was 85.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born Aug. 18, 1915, in New York City, she was a daughter of the late John J. and Jennie McKay Haslach.
She was an executive secretary at GTE Corp. for 33 years until retiring in 1981.
She was a resident of St. Joseph Manor in Trumbull since 1997.
She is survived by two sons, Donald Masterson of Corona, Calif., and Robert Masterson of Spring Hill, Fla.; a brother, the Rev. Stephen Haslach of Pelham, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, John J. Masterson; a brother, Jack Haslach; and a sister, Margie Cameron.
Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to noon Monday, Jan. 22, 2001 at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford.
A service will follow at noon at the funeral home. Her brother, the Rev. Haslach, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Queen of Peace Cemetery, Rockrimmon Road, Stamford.
James V. Pascale Sr.
James V. Pascale Sr., a longtime Stamford resident, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001 at Stamford Hospital. He was 88.
He died of complications from pneumonia, according to his family.
Born Aug. 10, 1912, in New York City, he was a son of the late Michael and Maria Longo Pascale.
Mr. Pascale lived in Stamford for 65 years and worked at Homestead Lumber Co., formerly of Stamford, for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Raymond Pascale of Stamford; a son, James Pascale Jr. of Bridgeport; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Frank Pascale; and a sister, Philomena Pascale.

Nicholas J. Melfi
Nicholas J. Melfi, a Norwalk resident for 62 years, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 84.
He died of heart and lung deterioration, according to his family.
Born Oct. 31, 1916, in Stamford, he was ason of the late Alexandro Luigi and Mary Grace Buffero Melfi.
Mr. Melfi was a graduate of J.M. Wright Tech. In 1946, he founded Norwalk Electric Motor Repair Co. He worked at the company until his retirement in 1981, when he was succeeded by his two sons. He served as president of Electric Apparatus Service Association and was a member for 20 years.
Mr. Melfi served with the Norwalk Auxiliary Police for 20 years, was on the Shellfish Commission from 1978 to 1985 and was a state sheriff. He was a Republican common councilman, and one of the founders of the Norwalk Conservative Party.
In 1952, he organized the East Norwalk Little League and held many offices and positions in the organization. He was honored with awards by the Norwalk Jewish Community Center, Norwalk Old Timers Athletic Association and the Stamford Rod and Gun Club. In addition,the International Little League founded a Nick Melfi Scholarship Award in his honor.
Mr. Melfi was an active member of the Sons of Italy, Pietro Micca Lodge, where he held several offices, a life member of the St. Ann's Club and the South Norwalk Boat Club. He was a member of the Strawberry Hill Athletic Club in Stamford and the Rod and Gun Club in Vista, N.Y. He was an avid bowler and golfer.
He is survived by his wife, Jennie Rissolo Melfi of Norwalk; a daughter, Janice Pomazi of Redding; three sons, Louis Melfi of Easton, Nicholas Melfi of New Fairfield and Gary Melfi of Norwalk; four sisters, Nina Berlingo, Rose Malizzia, Mildred Saunders, and Elise Furano, all of Stamford; a brother, Romeo Melfi of Darien; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, John Melfi and Vito Melfi; and a sister, Clara Melfi Carvette.

Gerald M. Macari
Gerald M. Macari, a longtime Norwalk resident, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 88.
He died of natural causes, according to his family.
Born April 8, 1912, in New York City, he was a son of the late Michael and Alexandra Macari.
Mr. Macari served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an executive with General Electric Co. and a member of the Shorehaven Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife, Yolanda Buono Macari of Norwalk; a brother, John Vitti of Danbury; three sisters, Emily Inzitari of Monroe, Theresa Brill of Farmingdale, N.Y., and Sylvia Cortese of Stamford; and many nieces and nephews.
