Gerald "Gerry" William Bedard

WILLIMANTIC Gerald Gerry William Bedard, 55, of 944 Main Street, died on Friday, January 20, 2006, at Windham Hospital.
On February 1, 1950 he was born in Willimantic, Connecticut, the son of the late William Joseph and Antoinette (Marshall) Bedard.
For many years Gerry worked locally as a house painter. He was most recently employed as a cook at the Bach Door and at Jonathans.
He will be sadly missed by his son Jerron Bedard, and his fiance, Sarah Frink, of Danielson; his grandchildren, Jasmine and Alexis Bedard; his brother Kenneth L. Bedard of Willimantic; his sister, Kim E. Raggi, and her husband, Peter, of Mansfield Center; three nephews, Joshua Capral, Peter Raggi, III and Anthony Raggi; and by his many, many close and dear friends.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Donations, in his memory, may be made to the American Cancer Society, 238 West Town St, Norwich, CT. The Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. is in charge of arrangements.

Philippe H. Chamberland

Philippe H. Chamberland, 91, of Willimantic, husband of the late Blanche (Desaulniers) Chamberland, died Tuesday, 1/10/06, in St. Joseph Living Center.
He was born April 4, 1914 in Trois Rivieres, Canada the son of Hormidas and Marie Louise (Pailler) Chamberland.
He was a Sheet Metal Worker at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft from 1956 until his retirement in 1979. Mr. Chamberland was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War 2. He was a member of the V.F.W. Gold Star Post 1724, the American Legion James J. Shea Post 19, the Knights of Columbus Council and Assembly, The Franco-American Club, The Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1440, the Willimantic Elks Lodge 1311, and a communicant of St. Marys Church.
His survivors include several nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 1/12/06, at 10 a.m. in St. Marys Church in Willimantic. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham. Visitation will be Thursday, from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic. George Dumas

George Dumas, 85, of Willimantic, husband of the late Angela Dumas, died Sunday, 1/1 06, in Haven Health Center in Willimantic.
He was born Feb. 22, 1923 in Willimantic, son of the late Adelard and Delia (Routhier) Dumas.
He lived in Port Chester, NY for many years. George was a construction worker for most of his life. He was an Army veteran of World War 2.
His survivors include two sisters: Rita Dubina of Willimantic and Therese Spangler of Virginia; a brother, Robert Dumas of Willimantic and several nieces and nephews, including Thomas Femenelli of Port Chester, NY. He was predeceased by four brothers: Paul, Gerard, Francis and Bernard Dumas.
His Graveside Service will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic has charge of arrangements.
AMATRUDA, ANDREW A.

Andrew A. Amatruda, 96, of 16 Emerson Court, Litchfield, formerly of Woodbridge, passed away Sept. 27, 2008 in Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington. He was the husband of Concetta (Connie) Fusco Amatruda. Mr. Amatruda was born in New Haven Nov. 11, 1911, son of the late Joseph and Rosina Ingenito Amatruda. He graduated from William & Mary College in 1935. He was in the insurance business in New Haven for more than 50 years prior to consolidating with the Abbate Insurance Agency and was the recipient of numerous awards from The Travelers Insurance Company. He was past president and a life member of The Amity Club; served as treasurer of the New Haven Tap-Off Club; was a past president of St. Aedan’s Holy Name Society and was a member of The Quinnipiack Club. He was a member of The Campania Club and served as chairman of its Fiftieth Anniversary celebration. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Dr. John (Mary-Jo) Amatruda of New York City; a daughter, Jean (Joel) Flint Nelson of Litchfield; four grandchildren, Vanessa & Andrew Flint, Matthew Amatruda and Kristen Cowings; and two great grandchildren, Maeve & Josephine Cowings. He was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas T. and Dr. Frank G. Amatruda and four sisters, Eleanor (Laura) Coppola, Carmel Gorry, Elizabeth Amatruda & Carolyn DeMartino.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Center Road, Woodbridge Tuesday morning at 10:00. Interment in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Margaret Mary (Peggy) DeTullio, 87, of New Haven, passed away Sept. 24, 2008 in St. Raphael’s Hospital. Born in New Haven April 4, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary DeBiase DeTullio. She graduated from local schools and was formerly employed at the East Chapel Spa, a family owned business. More recently, she worked as a 911dispatcher at the New Haven Fire Dept. Communications Center until her retirement. She is survived by three sisters, Virginia DeMartino & Gloria Novicki, both of East Haven and Louise Esposito of Branford; many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews and great great nieces & nephews that were her “pride and joy” (her favorite expression of them). She was predeceased by four brothers, Joseph, William, Almerico and Anthony DeTullio; a sister, Anna DeAngelo; and Mary O’Connell to whom she was a friend and care giver. Her family would like to thank the many people who tendered loving care to Peggy, especially all those at St. Regis Health Center where she resided for the past 6 years.

Pablo Falero, 64, of 311 Eastern St., New Haven, died Sept. 20, 2008 in Yale NH Hospital. He was the husband of the late Carmen L. Rivera Serrate. He was born in Carolina, P.R. June 28, 1944 and came to New Haven in 2003. He is survived by 4 daughters, Carmen & Anna Falero of New Haven, Maria Falero in P.R. and Lydia Berrios of West Haven; 11 grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren. Predeceased by a son, Pablo Falero.

Tina Aiudi Purificato, 90, of 55 Thompson St., East Haven, passed away Sept. 20, 2008 in Yale New Haven Hospital. She was born in West Haven Aug. 1, 1918, daughter of the late Alfredo and Nerina Bozzi Aiudi. She was well known as a receptionist at the Information Desk in the Memorial Unit at Yale New Haven Hospital for more than 25 years. She is survived by a son, Anthony I. (Nancy) Purificato of Guilford; a brother, Evo Aiudi of West Haven; 5 grandchildren & 11 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Alfayo Aiudi; and two sisters, Ada Maturo & Fay Mei.

Hilda A. Lopez, 42, of 153 Pine St., passed away Sept. 13, 2008 in Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the wife of Eddie Ortiz. Hilda was born in New Haven Dec. 1, 1965, daughter of Santos Lopez of New Haven and the late Rosa Lopez. Besides her husband and father, she is survived by three children, Eddie Jr., Miguel & Alyssa Ortiz, all of New Haven; two brothers, Santos Jr. & Hector Lopez, both of New Haven; two sisters, Myrna Velez of East Haven & Brunilda Lopez of New Haven; two aunts, Olga Nieves of New Haven & Josephine Lopez of Hamden; 3 nieces, 3 nephews and several cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Miguel Velez.

New Haven Police Sergeant Dario Scott Aponte, 43, died suddenly Sept. 10, 2008 in Yale New Haven Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. He was the husband of Donna Czabala Aponte. Sgt. Aponte was born in New Haven Jan. 19, 1965, son of Glenda Johnson of North Carolina. He was recently promoted to the rank of sergeant in the NHPD. Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by three sons, Brandon Christopher, Andrue Teodor and Dario Scott Aponte II; a daughter, Ashleigh Aponte; two brothers, Michael & Darin Aponte; a sister, Stylene Aponte-Forbes; 6 nieces & nephews Olena & Sophia Czabala, Sheequa Davis, Josh, Ashleigh & Meadow Aponte; In laws, Teodor & Maria Czabala and brother in law, Rev. Joseph A. Pastore, 67, formerly of New Haven, passed away Sept. 7, 2008 in Hewitt Health and Rehabilitation Center, Shelton. Born in New Haven Jan. 3, 1941, he was the son of Victoria (Julia) Ruggiero Pastore of New Haven and the late Vincent J. Pastore. Besides his mother, he is survived by three brothers, Vincent Pastore in Florida, Nicholas and Leonard Pastore, both in Connecticut. Funeral services and interment will be private. TROJAN, MYROSLAW

Myroslaw Trojan 82, of 90 Cherry Ave., Watertown, passed away Sept. 7, 2008 after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Nadia Perehiwsky Trojan. A longtime resident of Watertown, he was devoted to his family and active in many community organizations.
He was born Feb. 26, 1926 in Chodoriw, Ukraine, son of the late Cornelius Trojan & Nadia Stylowska. His father was a Doctor of Law, had a private practice and was a Senator and Representative to the Polish Parliament. His childhood ended abruptly in April, 1940 when, at age 14, he was forced to flee from his home at night so as to escape Soviet arrest and deportation. He was never to see his mother again, but was able to reunite with his father, return to school, and graduate from gymnasium in Lviv, Ukraine in 1944.After World War II, he obtained a scholarship to Catholic University in Louvain, Belgium, from which he graduated in 1952 with a diploma in electrical engineering. He worked in Brussels for 3 years as an engineer at the Bureau of Industrial Studies, where he was responsible for designing the central control for the electricity grid in Southern Belgium. In 1955, he came to New York City to join his father who was already residing in the U.S. While living in New York, Mr. Trojan married
Nadia Perehiwsky on Sept. 1, 1957. He moved to Watertown with his family in 1961 to join U.S. Time Corp. where he worked in the Automation Division, and later, in the military production unit. While at U.S Time Corp., he obtained a patent for an automatic watch assembly machine. Subsequently, he worked for a number of companies in Connecticut & New York until his retirement from Greiner Engineering Sciences in Wallingford in 1990. He was also the owner of Novel Security Systems. Aside from his professional career, he was very active in the life of the community. He was a longtime member of the Watertown Chamber of Commerce and served on its Board of Directors from 1984 to 1987. He was a member of the Democratic Town Committee and served on the Watertown Public Buildings Committee for 12 years. He also served for many years on the Supervisory Committee of the Greater Watertown Federal Credit Union. He served as national Secretary, and later Treasurer of the Ukrainian Engineers Society of America. A longtime member of PLAST, a Ukrainian scouting organization, he led its activities in New Haven for 12 years until 1994. He was a member of St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in New Haven, and was head of a branch of the Patriarchal Society. He was a longstanding member of the Ukrainian National Association, serving as president of Branch 66 in Ansonia and head of the Audit Committee of the New England Regional Branches. He also served on the Audit Committee of the Ukrainian Museum in New York.
Besides his wife, Mr. Trojan is survived by four daughters, Dr. Daria Trojan of Montreal, Canada, Vera Trojan of Belmont, MA., Christina Trojan-Masnyk of Wheaton, IL. and Natalie Trojan of New York City; three sons-in-law, Dr. Andrey Cybulsky, Mark Carthy & Dr. Taras Masnyk; a sister, Halia in Ukraine; six granddaughters, five nieces & nephews and seven great nieces & nephews.
