Bazzano Sr. and the late Joan (Murphy) Bazzano, Lou was educated in the Newington public schools where he was highly respected as a student and athlete. At Newington High School, he had an enjoyable career as a standout in varsity basketball and baseball. In his senior year, Lou was honored with the Coach's Award in basketball, named a Central Valley Conference All Star in baseball, and was selected for the state CIAC East baseball team. He also participated in American Legion baseball and was named Newington's Most Valuable Player in 1974.

Upon graduation, Lou received an athletic scholarship to attend Stetson University in Deland, Fla., earning a bachelor of arts degree in physical education in 1978. While at Stetson, Lou excelled as a second baseman, receiving the university's Outstanding Effort and Most Valuable Player awards in baseball. He touched the hearts of all that knew him. He was admired for his kindness and the courageous and positive attitude he displayed in his ongoing battle with Hodgkins. Lou will be forever remembered for the fortitude he displayed following treatments by continuing to teach and coach the young people he loved and treasured. His wife and his family are eternally grateful for the overwhelming support from the Vernon school system and community. A testament to the admiration for Lou by the Vernon youths was evidenced by the "LB" patches each Rockville High baseball player wears on his uniform, dedicating this season to Lou's fight against this disease.
