Gwendolyn A. Brown
Gwendolyn A. Brown, 79, of Bloomfield, wife of the late Kenneth A. Brown, died on Wednesday, December 18, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, daughter of the late Josiah and Evelyn (Headlam) Hamilton, she had moved from Jamaica thirty years ago to Bronx, NY and most recently Bloomfield. In Jamaica, Gwendolyn worked as a custom dressmaker, specializing in wedding gowns. In her free time, she enjoyed painting and doing artwork, mostly of floral scenes. She was a parishioner of St. Monica`s Episcopal Church, Hartford. She leaves to mourn her passing a daughter, Joy Hudson and her husband Raymond of Bloomfield; a brother, Rudolph Barrett and his wife Maureen of London, England; a sister, Hilda Hamilton of Kingston, Jamaica; two grandchildren, Richard and Camille Hudson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Jamaica, the United States and England. Besides her husband of 57 years, she was predeceased by a sister, Edna Hamilton. Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, December 24, 10:00 a.m. at St. Monica`s Episcopal Church, 31 Mather St., Hartford. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield. Her family will receive friends prior to the service from 9-10 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Monica`s Building Fund, 31 Mather St., Hartford, CT 06120. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home.
