WALLINGFORD - Sonia Kowaleski Bedford, 95, of 22 Masonic Avenue died Tuesday April 27, 2004 at the Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center in Wallingford. She was the wife of the late Edward D. Bedford. She was born in Middletown, CT, February 8, 1909, the daughter of the late Joseph and Jeanette Ziolkowski Kowaleski. She had been employed as a nurses aide at Connecticut Valley Hospital. She was member of the the First Congregational Church and Circle Two of the church, the Meriden Grange, the Salvation Army, the Civilian Defense Corps and the Meriden Women's Club. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and Gardner Bush of Boca Raton, FL; a stepdaughter, Nathalie Sunday of Meriden; a sister, Winifred Mott of New Haven; a brother, Daniel Kowaleski of Stamford; two grandchildren, Diane Bush Levine of Boca Raton and Jeanette A. Bush of Cheshire; three great grandchildren, Deidre Dolan Rudy, David E. Dolan and Cheryl Egan, all of Boca Raton; two great-great-grandchildren, Skye Diane Rudy and Marianna Dolan, both of Boca Raton; and a step-grandson. She was predeceased by a sister, Stephanie Lewandowski and a brother, Thaddeus Kowaleski.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 29, 2004 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at the Masonic Home, 22 Masonic Ave., Wallingford. Rev. Anne Baltzell will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. Contributions may be made to the Masonic Charity Foundation, P.O. Box 70, Wallingford, CT 06492.

In New Haven, Oct. 30, 2004, Josephine Zarro Benoit, 80, of 135 Putnam Ave., Hamden, wife of the late Lionel Benoit, sister of Carolyn DeGennaro of Woodbridge, Alphonse Zarro of Hamden and Mary Cricco of Cape Coral, FL. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and was especially fond of her great - Nieces and great-nephews. Josephine was born Jan. 6, 1924, daughter of the late James Zarro and Alphonsena Zarro Vincento. She worked at Whitney Foods in New Haven.
Burial Service on Friday, Nov. 12, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. in Beaverdale Memorial Park, Hamden, Section S. BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden in care of arrangements.

At CT Hospice, Sept. 30, 2001, Alexander W. Bavolack, 79, husband of Grace "Lil"Campochiaro Bavolack of 231 Centerbrook Rd., Hamden, father and father-in-law of Ann and Louis Mansfield of Hamden, grandfather of Shawn Mansfield, brother of the late Julia B. Kotenski, Helen Bavolack and Daniel Bavolack, uncle of Daniel and Trudy Bavolack of Virginia and Lou Ann Beamon of Oregon also survived by two great nieces and two great nephews. Alexander was born in Ansonia, July 19, 1922 a son of the late Wasyl and Anna Nester Bavolack, attended schools in Ansonia and was a WW II Navy Veteran. He was a machinist mate 1st class and served on the destroyer USS Twiggs which was sunk in enemy action. He worked for the former Farrel Birmingham, Inc. for 11 years, was a supernumerary police officer in Ansonia and was an Alderman in the 4th Ward. When he moved to Hamden he became a Patrolman for the Hamden Police Dept. in 1952 and retired in 1966. His memberships included the Knights of Columbus - 50 year member, Hamden Police Benevolent Assoc., and the Police Anchor Club of Valley Naugatuck Unit.
Funeral from BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Wed. Oct 3 at 9:15 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 10 o'clock. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hamden. Friends may call Tuesday (TODAY ) from 4 to 7 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405 or to a charity of one's choice.

Madison - John R. "Jack" Bumstead, 77, of Downing Way, passed away July 14, 2003. He was born in Baltimore, MD, Oct. 6, 1925, a son of the late Dr. John H. and Katharine MacAllister Bumstead and had resided in Hamden before moving to Madison in 1985. Prior to his retirement he was a librarian at the Mystic Seaport Library and he was a lifelong member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church of New Haven. He is survived by a cousin, Priscilla S. Hunt of Cambridge, MA and a stepsister, Mary Collie Mason of France.
Memorial service Saturday, July 26, 2003 at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 830 Whitney Ave., New Haven. Burial in Grove Street Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mystic Seaport Museum, 75 Greenmanville Ave., Mystic, CT 06355.

PLAINVILLE - Edgar J. Brainerd, 78, formerly of Meriden, husband of Virginia (Lauder) Brainerd of Wallingford, died after a long illness on Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at Plainville Health Care Center, which was his home for the past 8 years. Born in Meriden on June 8, 1924, he was the son of the late Reginald and Mary Elizabeth (Carter) Brainerd. He resided all his life in Meriden until he became a patient at Plainville Health Care Center. He attended Meriden schools and the Hartford Art School of Fashion. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked for many years at Allegheny Ludlum in Wallingford. He was a drummer in many local bands, such as the Johnny Solek Band and Krakowska Band. He was a member of the Haddam Historical Society and Founders and Patriots. His ancestors were one of the original founders of Haddam, CT and he was a genealogy enthusiast. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Judith (Brainerd) Kizilski and her husband, Robert of Southington, Nancy Brainerd of Anchorage, AK and Marcia Brainerd of Plantsville; five grandchildren, Michael and Peter Kizilski, Christine Delgado, Lara and Jared Kosky; two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Alyssa Kizilski; a brother, Stanley Brainerd of Gray, Maine; a sister, Mabel Wilbur of Henrietta, NY; and several nieces and nephews. We would like to extend our thanks to the staff of Plainville Health Care Center for their compassion and care.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew Epicopal Church, 20 Catlin St., Meriden. The Rev. Anne Jensen will officiate. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, CT.

Largo, FL - Lois B. Aichler Bradley, 80, formerly of Meriden, died Monday, April 12, 2004 at her residence in Largo, Florida. Born in Meriden, August 8, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Julie Sternberg Aichler. She graduated as a registered nurse from Middlesex School of Nursing in 1944 and served in the Army Nurse Corps as a lieutenant during World War II. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Curch in Meriden, Rogate Lutheran Church in Clearwater, FL and American Legion Post 122. She is survived by a son, the Rev. Richard Bradley of Clearwater, FL; three daughters, Carolyn Lohmeyer of Largo, Dr. Ruth Bradley of Seminole, FL and Joyce Neun of Columbia, TN; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held in Gethsemane Cemetery, Bee St., Meriden, Thursday, April 29, 2004 at 2 p.m. Her son, the Rev. Richard Bradley will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of BEECHER & BENNETT FLATOW FUNERAL HOME, 48 COOK AVE., MERIDEN.

Formerly of Anderson Ave., Milford, Olga Schaeffer Brink, wife of the late Vincent A.Brink, a former resident of West Haven and the Westville section of New Haven.She was born in Bezo, Hungary, December 8, 1910, daughter of the late William and Paula Hille Schaeffer. She was employed by the former New Haven, Penn-Central and Conrail Railroads, retiring in 1975 after more then 30 years. A member of the Railroad Clerks Union. Previously she worked for the former A.C. Gilbert Company and Stanley's Department Store. She is survived by a daughter Cathy Jo Steskla of Chandler, AZ. Sister of Francis Schaeffer of Hamden and the late William Schaeffer.Grandmother of Brian and Carrie Steskla, 3 Great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral from BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Tuesday, Aug. 22nd at 9:30 am
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 10:00 AM.
Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Resource Center, 1261 South Main St., Southington, CT 06489.

Mrs. Brainard was born in Hempstead, L.I., NY, Dec. 14, 1932 a daughter of the late James and Ida Seaman Matthews and was a resident of West Haven for 50 years and a member of the New Life Evangelical Free Church of West Haven.

She graduated from Quinnipiac College with a nursing degree and was employed as a nursing supervisor at Montowese Health Care of North Haven since 1990. She is also survived by a sister, Laura Pecor of Durham, CT, a brother, James L. Bradley of Jacksonville, NC and four nieces; Jazmin L. Bonner, Jordana Lynn Roberts, Jaime Renee Bradley and Terri Pecor. She was predeceased by a nephew Teddy Pecor.
