Ruth Lee Fisher
1935 - 2009

Ruth Lee Fisher, 74, of Hamden, departed this life October 8, 2009. She was the widow of Robert Fisher.
Born in Cheraw, SC, January 27, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Leola Singleton.
Mrs. Fisher was employed for numerous years as a Private Duty Health Aide and was a member of Bible Gospel Center.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Kelvin Fisher; a stepson, Robert DeBerry; sisters, Gwendolyn Good and Carolyne Williams; brothers, Thomas, Herbert and Edward Singleton; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Fisher; a sister, Caletha Britton; and brothers, Charlie Singleton, Jr. and Walter Singleton.
A celebration of Mrs. Fisher's life and legacy will be held Saturday, October 17, 2009, at 9:00 A.M. at Bible Gospel Center, 143 Leeder Hill Dr., Hamden. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 8:00-9:00 A.M. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Fay Adonogene Hauptmann
1951 - 2009

Fay Adonogene Hauptmann, 58, of New Haven, departed this life December 3, 2009.
Born in Jamaica, West Indies, March 24, 1951, she was the daughter of Beatrice Roberts Grant and Bertram Schaffe.
Ms. Hauptmann was employed at Goodwill Easter Seals as a Sales Clerk.
In addition to her parents, she leaves to cherish her memories, a son, Wayne Grant (Yvette Cruz); a daughter, Natalie Hauptmann; brothers, Karl Grant and Raymond and Winsome Schaffe; sisters, Valarie Hamilton, Annie Bennett, Jennifer Grant-Fowlin; Calene Grant-Young; and Vanessa McHayle; grandchildren, Amelia and Naomi Grant; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Earl McHayle.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 11, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Anthony's Church, 70 Washington Ave., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held Thursday from 6:00-8:00 P.M. and Friday from 8:00-9:15 A.M. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Voleta D. Knox Henderson
1921 - 2010

Voleta D. Knox Henderson, 88, formerly of New Haven, went home to be with God on July 19, 2010 in Cary, North Carolina.
Mrs. Henderson was born September 5, 1921, a daughter of the late George and Lucille Knox.
She leaves sons, William D. Henderson, Jr. of Wallingford and Maurice A. Henderson of North Carolina; daughters, Voleta L. Ferguson of New Haven, Diane E. Henderson of North Carolina and Sheilah I. Sams of North Carolina; 25 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Mrs. Henderson was predeceased by her husband, William D. Henderson Sr, sons Russell and Keith Henderson; brothers George, Joseph and Leroy Knox; sisters Louise Knox Bedford and Lucille Knox Braggs.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 10:00am at Beaverdale Memorial Park, 90 Pine Rock Avenue, New Haven. The family will be pleased to receive relatives and friends at the Community Outreach Center, 654 Orchard St., New Haven after the interment.

Antonio "Tony" Ricardo Fortes
1954 - 2010

Antonio "Tony" Ricardo Fortes, 56, of New Haven, departed this life July 17, 2010.
Born in New Haven, CT, June 26, 1954, he was the son of Lillian Fortes and the late Manuel Joseph Fortes, Sr.
He was most recently employed at Long Wharf Theatre as Head of Maintenance and had also been employed at Yale University and the State of CT Department of Children and Youth Services.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
In addition to his mother, he leaves to cherish his memory, sisters, Patricia Stevenson (Emerson) and Barbara Fortes (Jack); brothers, Manuel Joseph Fortes, Jr. and John Fortes (Melba); two nieces; four nephews, two great nieces; and a host of aunts, several cousins and friends.
A celebration of Mr. Fortes' life will be held Friday, July 23, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Rose D. Arrington Evans
1942 - 2010

Rose D. Arrington Evans, 67, of New Haven, departed this life June 25, 2010.
Born in Nashville, NC, September 17, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Rannie Arrington.
She was employed as an Inspector and Supervisor at Secondary Operations, Inc. in Hamden for almost 40 years.
Ms. Evans is survived by a sister, Willie Belle Arrington; brothers, Andrew, Raymond and George Arrington; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by sisters, Mary Robinson, Gertrude Mason and Ella Boone; and brothers, William, Saul, Paul and James Arrington.
A celebration of Ms. Evans' life will be held Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at 6:00 PM at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Burial will be in Nashville, NC.

Cornelia Ann Jenkins
1929 - 2010

Cornelia Ann Jenkins, formerly of Brooklyn, NY, passed away on July 8, 2010 at Walnut Hill Care Center, New Britain.
"Connie" as she was affectionately called, was born November 1, 1929 in Harlem, NY. She was the daughter of the late Carlton and Marie Jenkins.
Connie was a graduate of Julia Richmond High School in Manhattan, NY and later received a BA in Liberal Arts as well as her Master's in Social Work.
She retired from the VA Medical Center in Northport, NY in 1985 after being employed there for 30 years. She also retired from the Department of Children and Families in Brooklyn, NY after 20 years of service.
Connie is survived by sisters, Patricia Emery, Janice Jackson, Jacqueline Miller, Mary Green and Lorraine (Steven Sr.) Nickerson; brothers, Dennis and Keith Jenkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by a brother, Carlton Jenkins, Jr.
A celebration of Ms. Jenkins' life will be held Monday, July 12, 2010, at 10:00 AM at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 AM. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. -Treasurer; 25 Columbia Heights, Brooklyn, NY 11201-2483.

Rosa Lee Bryan
1912 - 2010

Rosa Lee Bryan, 98, of New Haven, departed this life June 28, 2010. She was the wife of Alonza Bryan.
Born in Darlington, SC, May 5, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Lular Stevenson.
Prior to retiring, she was employed by Sargent Manufacturing as a Machine Operator.
A celebration of Mrs. Bryan's life will be held Friday, July 2, 2010, at 7:00 PM at St. Matthew's UFWB Church, 400 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 6:00-7:00 PM. Burial will be Saturday at 10:00 AM in Evergreen Cemetery.

Zettie Belle Smith
1934 - 2009

Zettie Belle Smith, 75, of Whiteville, NC, formerly of New Haven, departed this life December 8, 2009. She was the widow of Bishop Charles Smith, Sr.
Born in Nakina, NC, March 27, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Zettie A. Gore Smith.
Mrs. Smith was employed at U.S. Repeating Arms for numerous years as a Machine Operator.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Edith Daphine Fortes (Stephan), Carole Annette Smith and Vivian Dildy (Larry); sons, Charles Smith, Jr. (Bettie), Samuel Smith (Ophelia), and Bishop Vincent Leroy Smith (Yvette); a stepdaughter, Dorothea Byrams; a brother, Jesse O. Smith; twelve grandchildren; five great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.
A celebration of Mrs. Smith's life and legacy will be held Monday, December 14, 2009, at 10:00 A.M. at Morning Star Freewill Holiness Church, 125 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 8:00-10:00 A.M. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Mike E. Moore
1928 - 2008

Mike E. Moore, 80, of 9 Knight Lane, West Haven, CT was born to the late Nancy Blaney Hobbs and Israel Moore on February 8, 1928, in Wilmington, NC.
On October 24, 2008, Mike Moore was called from labor to reward.
Mike attended school in Wilmington, NC, after high school he joined the Army. After serving his country he moved to New Haven, CT where he met and married Josephine L. Green, they were happily married for 38 years.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Josephine Moore of West Haven, CT; 4 daughters, Carol and Diane Moore of Philadelphia, PA, Juanita Moore of Williamsburg, VA and Regina Moore of West Haven, CT; a stepson, Cornell Green and daughter-in-law, Wanda Green of New Haven, CT; and a sister, Rebecca Davis of Philadelphia, PA. He also leaves two loving nieces, Celeste Davis of Hamden, CT and Dorothy Brown of Philadelphia, PA. Also mourning his loss are his grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of Mr. Moore’s life and legacy will be held Thursday, October 30, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul UAME Church, 150 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Steve W. Little
1954 - 2006

Steve W. Little, 52, of New Haven, departed this life on July 29, 2006.
Steve was born in Albemarle, NC, on March 9, 1954, son of Elizabeth Patton Little and the late Wilson Little.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by sons, Shawn, Tyreese (Michelle) and Eric (Jakeya) Little; brothers, Randy and Daryl Little; his former spouse, Darlene Cody; 8 grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service celebrating Steve's life and legacy will be held Friday, August 4, 2006, at 11 AM at Living Word Ministries, 225 Meloy Rd., West Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10-11 AM. Burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
