Mavis L. McCulloch
1925 - 2006

Mavis L. McCulloch, 80, of Dickerman St., New Haven, departed this life on August 10, 2006. She was the widow of John A. McCulloch.
Mrs. McCulloch was born in May Pen Clarendon, Jamaica, W.I., on November 23, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Arnold and Evelyn Bryant.
Mrs. McCulloch was employed as a dress maker for numerous years and was a longtime member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her children, Howard (Zene) Gayle of Nottingham, England, Lewellyn (Redna) McGill and Beryl (Dalton) Edwards both of Canada, Weymouth "Junior" McCulloch, Verna (Victor) Williams and Novlette McGill all of New Haven; Paul McCulloch of Newark, NJ and Valerie (Peter) Thompson and Sandria (Michael) Williamson both of Jamaica, W.I.; a brother, Roderick Bryant of St. Vincent, W.I.; a sister, Zipporah "Cindy" Foster" of Jamaica, W.I.; 37 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by a son, Enasio McGill; brothers, Delgado, Owen and Hamlin Bryant; and a grandson, Michael Williamson.
A Requiem Mass celebrating Mrs. McCulloch's life and legacy will be held Saturday, August 19, 2006, at 9 AM at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 111 Whalley Ave., New Haven. Burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church Friday from 6-8 PM and Saturday from 8-9 AM.

Pamela C. Denny
1986 - 2007

Pamela C. Denny, 21, of New Haven, departed this life June 1, 2007.
Born in New Haven, CT, April 8, 1986, she was the daughter of Crystal Mabery and Randy Denny.
She was employed by the U.S. Postal Service.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her son; Shay G. Harris; stepfather, Searle Mabery; brothers, Randy Denny Jr. and Curtis Mabery; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by a brother, Shay Denny.
A celebration of Pamela's life will be held Friday, June 8, 2007, at 10:00 am at Agape Christian Center, 90 Goffe St., New Haven. No calling hours. Burial in Hamden Plains Cemetery.

William Johnson
1946 - 2006

William Johnson, 60, of Hamden, formerly of San Francisco, CA, died February 27, 2006 at the VA Medical Center in West Haven.
Mr. Johnson was born in Rock Hill, SC, January 27, 1946, son of the late William and Lottie Johnson.
He was a Vietnam War veteran.
Mr. Johnson is survived by brothers, Marvin and Howard Johnson; sisters, Phyllis Castillo and Edith and Dawn Johnson all of CT; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles Johnson and a sister, Linda Johnson.
Interment will be private.

Charles Williams
1949 - 2006

Charles Williams, age 56, of New Haven, died February 9, 2006.
Mr. Williams was born October 3, 1949, in New Haven, CT, son of the late Allen and Eula Bolden Williams.
He was employed for 28 years by Yale University as a lead person.
Mr. Williams is survived by his fiance, Sheila "Tootie" Gatison; a son, Charles C. Williams, Jr.; a daughter, Charlesie S. Williams; a stepdaughter, Cheesa Gatison; a brother, Robert Williams; sisters, Gloria and Linda Williams; a grandson, Rodney Esau, Jr; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by brothers, Danny and Joe Williams.
A funeral service in celebration of Charles's life will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2006, at 11am at Bread of Life Fellowship Center, 310 Morse St., Hamden. Friends may call at the church from 10am-11am. Burial in Hamden Plains Cemetery.

Darlene D. Smith
1961 - 2008

Darlene D. Smith, 46, of New Haven, departed this life May 9, 2008.
Born in New Haven, CT, June 20, 1961, she was the daughter of Dorothy Gatison Smith of Hamden and the late John Frank Dixon.
She was a graduate of Richard C. Lee High School, Class of 1979 and a member of Joy Temple Church of Christ in Prayer, Inc.
In addition to her mother, Darlene leaves to mourn and cherish her memories her brother, Earl Smith of New Haven; sisters, Michelle Smith of New Haven and Francine Smith of Hamden; half-brothers, Michael and Keith Gomes and Paris Lee all of New Haven; a half-sister, Francine Gomes of New Haven; a special family friend, Davene Clark; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A celebration of Darlene's life will be held Friday, May 16, 2008, at 11:00 AM at St. Matthew's UFWB Church, 400 Dixwell Ave., New Haven.
Friends may call at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven, is in charge of arrangements.

Chase Anthony Brandon Rainey
2007 - 2008

Chase Anthony Brandon Rainey, 1 year-old son of Ashley Brandon and Patrick Rainey, departed this life October 7, 2008.
Chase was born in Birmingham, AL, August 12, 2007.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandparents, Melissa Brandon and Martha Rainey; maternal great grandmother, Donna Brandon; aunts, Alicia and Amanda; an uncle, Aaron; and a host of other relatives and friends.
His paternal grandfather, George H. Rainey, preceded him in death.
A celebration of Chase’s life will be held Sunday, October 12, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. at Mt .Zion Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 64 Marlboro St., Hamden. Friends may call at the church from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Burial will be Monday at 10:00 in Beaverdale Cemetery.

Willie J. Brown, Sr.
1926- 2007

Willie J. Brown, Sr., 81, of North Haven, departed this life February 18, 2007. He was the husband of Josephine Spann Brown.
Born in Montezuma, GA, January 16, 1926, he was the son of the late Will Brown and Lela Bell Fryer.
Mr. Brown had been employed as a foreman by E&F Construction Co. He was a member of St. Matthew's UFWB Church where he served as a deacon. He was also a veteran of the US Army and a member of Widow's Son Lodge #1 F&A.M.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Elijah Spann, Nathaniel Leo Spann and Willie Brown, Jr.; a daughter, Jessica Erkard; brothers, Solomon and Walter Brown; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Brown and a sister, Elizabeth Brown.
A funeral service to celebrate Mr. Brown's life and legacy will be held Friday, February 23, 2007, at 7:00 PM at St. Matthew's UFWB Church, 400 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 5:00-6:00 PM. Masonic services will begin at 6:00 PM. Burial Saturday at 10:00 AM in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Deborah Ann Harris
1953 - 2009

Deborah Ann Harris, 56, of New Haven, departed this life May 10, 2009. She was the widow of George Harris.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, March 19, 1953, she was the daughter of Willa Carrington and the late William T. Carrington, Sr.
She was employed for numerous years by the former SNET Co. and was a member of St. Matthew's UFWB Church.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a daughter, Caprece Tavares (Marcus) of West Haven; brothers, Steven, Anthony, Adrian Sr. (Kia) and Maurice Carrington, all of New Haven; sisters, Cheryl Jones (Frank) of New Haven and Phillistine Slade (William) of New Milford, CT; her grandchildren, Raveighn and Sinque Tavares; a stepdaughter, Andrea Harris; a stepson, Jason Harris; her godsister, Novena Cates; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a brother, William Carrington, Jr.
A celebration of Deborah's life and legacy will be held Friday, May 15, 2009, at 12:00 P.M. at St. Matthew's UFWB Church, 400 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 11:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Carlos Alberto Ortiz
1983 - 2006

Carlos Alberto Ortiz, 23, of New Haven, died on September 17, 2006.
Born in Puerto Rico on February 26, 1983, he was the son of Reynaldo Iguina and Zenaida Espinosa.
Besides his parents, he is survived by a sister, Reynamar Ortiz; his twin brother, Juan C. Ortiz, brother, Reynaldo Ortiz; a niece, Tracey Ortiz; a nephew, Tjay Tucker; and a host of other siblings. He was predeceased by a sister, Isabela Adorno.
A funeral service celebrating Carlos' life will be held Friday, September 22, 2006, at 11 AM at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call from 10-11 AM.

Joseph Leroy (Roy, Joe) Branch
1914 - 2006

Joseph Leroy (Roy, Joe) Branch, age 91, went home to be with the Lord on January 12, 2006, with his wife and children at his bedside. He was the beloved husband of Syla A. Artis-Branch for 63 years.
Mr. Branch served as a deacon at Immanuel Baptist Church and Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church for many years. He was a WWII Army veteran and retired from the United States Postal Service on October 14, 1984.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving family; 2 sons, Joseph L. Jr. and Erwin N. Branch; a foster son, Richard L. Knight; 3 daughters, Frances E. Walker, Linda M. Branch and Paulette E. Branch-Mullings all of New Haven; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a brother, Grover C. Boone; numerous cousins, extended family and friends.
Funeral service will be held Friday, January 20, 2006, at 11am at Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church, 449 Newhall St., Hamden. Friends may call at the church from 9am-11am. Burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
