Edward E. Davenport

Edward E. Davenport, 54, of St. Paul, Minnesota, formerly of New Haven, departed this life July 19, 2009.
He was the husband Wenda Davenport.
Born in New York, NY, November 9, 1954, he was the son of the late Wavelry Davenport and Eleanor Diggs.
Mr. Davenport was a U.S. Navy veteran where he served as a Marine Electrician.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Tisha Minga, Tasheen Davenport, Edward, Jr., Jamal and Roshaun Davenport, and J-valle, Quinvelle and Sherom Quarels; brothers, Wayne, Gerard, Michael and Mark Davenport; a sister, Debra Davenport; eight grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Mr. Davenport's life and legacy will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at 10:00 A.M. at United Church on the Green, 290 Temple St., New Haven. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
Friends may call Monday from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven.
Winston R. Ireland
1947 - 2008
Winston R. Ireland, 60, of New Haven, departed this life June 20, 2008. He was the husband of Vida Ireland.
Born in St. Christopher (St. Kitts), West Indies, November 12, 1947, he was the son of the late George Ireland and Gladys Martin.
He was an active member of his church, First and Summerfield United Methodist Church, where he was also employed as the Property Manager.
Mr. Ireland was a former president of the Antillean Friendly Association, Inc. and was currently serving as its interim president. He served on the Board of Directors for the Greater Dwight Development Corporation (GDDC) and the Coordinating Council for Children in Crisis (CCCC). He was also a member of the Dwight Central Management Team (DCMT).
Mr. Ireland was a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University where he earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Biology.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Gladys Ireland of New Haven; sisters, Merede Ireland of England, Elaine Emanuel of Miami, FL, Emily Ireland Nelson of Canada and Catherine Ireland Walters of Nevis, West Indies; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Mr. Ireland's life and legacy will be held Thursday, June 26, 2008, at 5:00 PM at First and Summerfield United Methodist Church, 425 College St., New Haven.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gladys Ireland Scholarship Fund, c/o New Alliance Bank, 36 Fountain St., New Haven, CT 06515.
Latrice Sledge
1974 - 2005
Latrice Sledge, 31, of Clover Place, New Haven, died November 13, 2005.
Latrice was born in New Haven, CT, January 11, 1974, daughter of the late Jacquelyn Sledge.
She is survived by her grandmother, Emma Sledge; a brother, Labarron Tyron Sledge; sisters, Laneisha and Latanya Sledge; a dear friend, Rico Little; and other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her grandfather, Clyde Sledge.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 19, 2005, at 9am at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call from 8am-9am. Burial in Hamden Plains Cemetery.
Peggy Ann Gore
1945 - 2007
Peggy Ann Gore, 61, of New Haven, departed this life February 24, 2007. She was the wife and partner of Bishop Aaron Gore and First Lady of the New Bethlehem Unified Freewill Baptist Church.
Born in Whiteville, NC, September 28, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Roland and Christine Williams.
Prior to retiring, she was employed by US Repeating Arms for over 30 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Elder Maria Gore; sons, Brian Gore and Aaron Gore, Jr.; brothers, Linwood and Oscar Lee Williams; sisters, Loretta and Wanda Williams and Myra Moody; six grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Roland Devon Williams and a sister, Linda R. Scott.
A funeral service to celebrate Mrs. Gore's life and legacy will be held Thursday, March 1, 2007 at 7 PM at Morning Star Church, 125 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 5-7 PM. Burial Friday at 11 AM in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
Laura Roach Charles
1926 - 2008
Laura Roach Charles, 82, of New Haven, beloved wife of the late Roy Charles, peacefully entered into eternal rest at her home, Tuesday, July 1, 2008.
Born in Anna Regina, Essequibo, Guyana, on June 4, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mercella Baird Roach.
She leaves to cherish her memories, sons and daughters-in-law, Horace Jupiter, Joseph Jupiter, Henry and Yonette, Alfred and Sandra Charles; daughters and sons-in-law, Wedal and Rudolph Moffett, Vester Charles, Pauletta Charles Hines, Barbara and Alfred Charles Chow-Yen and Fay Charles Waldron; brothers, Alex and Caleb Roach; a sister, Wedal Gibbs; 29 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by a brother and sisters, William Roach, Hannah Roach, and Thelma Bishop.
A celebration of Mrs. Charles' life and legacy will be held Monday, July 7, 2008, at 10:00 AM at New Haven Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 355 Humphrey St., New Haven. Mildred Louise Felton Brown
1934 - 2008
Mildred Louise Felton Brown, 74, of New Haven, departed this life July 23, 2008. She was the wife of Solomon Brown.
Born in Montezuma, GA, May 16, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Hosie and Florida Mae Felton.
Prior to retiring, she was employed at Yale University as a Lab Technician. She was also a Head-start Grandmother.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Minister Vanessa Brown of Hamden; a grandson, Jovan Brown of Hamden; a sister, Idell Leary of Atlanta, GA; a brother in-law, Walter Brown of New Haven; sisters in-law, Roxie Brown of New Haven, Josephine Brown of North Haven and Vicky Polk of Van Nuys, CA.
Brothers, Hatcher, Burris, Arthur and H.O. Felton, and sisters, Beulah Lee, Louise James, Nettie Ruth McKenzie, Mae Ida Harvey and Irdeen Baker, predeceased her.

Lois M. Sullivan

Lois M. Sullivan, 73, of New Haven, departed this life January 12, 2006. She was the widow of Edward Sullivan.
Mrs. Sullivan was born September 22, 1932, in New Haven, CT, daughter of the late Robert G. and Helen H. Gauld.
She was a member of Bible Gospel Center.
She is survived by sons, Gordon, Kenneth (Jenet) and Clifford (Pamela) Anderson; a daughter, Denise Anderson (Calvin Jones); a sister, Roberta A. Gauld; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Sullivan was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Anderson.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2006, at 9am at Bible Gospel Center, 143 Leeder Hill Dr., Hamden. Friends may call at the church from 8am-9am. Burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
Joyce Haynes
1948 - 2007
Joyce Haynes, age 58, departed this life June 24, 2007.
Born in Ayden, NC, October 6, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Virgue Cox Canady.
Ms. Haynes was employed by Interim Healthcare as a Certified Nurse's Assistant.
She is survived by her children, Margo Cox Bradley (James), Terri L. Haynes and William Anthony Cox, Sr. (Patricia); siblings, Hugh, Isaac, Steven, Eric, Catherine and Marion Canady; 14 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a dear friend, Diego Roberson; and other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by 2 grandchildren.

Ernest Jones
1923 - 2006
Ernest Jones, 83, of New Haven, departed this life on November 14, 2006. He was the husband of Rose Jones.
Born in Suffolk, Virginia on July 20, 1923, he was the son of the late Arthur and Rena Sanderlin Jones.
Mr. Jones was educated in the Virginia schools and was a graduate of St. Paul College. Ernest spent two and one half years in the United States Army where he was a musician in the 204th Army Ground Force Band.
In 1947 he moved to New Haven, CT and became a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. That same year he served on the Board of Vestry and was once President of the St. Thomas-St. Luke Club.
In 1950 he joined the Oriental Lodge #6 Prince Hall Masons, was a Past Master and a Thirty-Third Degree Mason, P.H.A. Mr. Jones established the Rite-Way Cleaners & Tailors in 1956. The business closed in October 2004 after 48 years of service. Ernest received numerous community awards including his induction into the Business Hall of Fame.
Under the leadership of three different Mayors, Ernest served on a number of Boards in City Hall, the last being chairman of the City Retirement Fund. Appointed to the 12 million dollar Fund, retiring after ten years, he had boosted the Fund to 56 million dollars. For that accomplishment, Mayor Biagio DiLieto, honored him with a Retirement Luncheon at the Faculty Club and presented him a framed certificate. Mr. Jones served on the Board of Directors of the Dixwell “Q” House as well as Financial Secretary and Treasurer of the Greater New Haven Business and Professional Association. He also served as President of the Dixwell Plaza Merchants Association.
In addition to his beloved wife he is survived by sons, Ernest Jones, Jr. of New Haven and Marc S. Jones (Vanessa) of Smyrna, GA; daughters, Brenda Barnes and Wanda Heyward both of New Haven and Cheryl Jones of Powder Springs, GA; a stepson, Mark Brown (Johnna) of New Haven; a stepdaughter, Stephanie Singley (Stephen) of New Haven; 18 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a sister in-law, Peggie Caldwell of Hamden; a brother in-law, Tracey Lamb of Hamden; special nieces, Lynda Jones Gerrish and Loretta Jones both of New York; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by brothers John and Leon Jones and a sister, Irene Williams.
A Requiem Mass celebrating Mr. Jones’ life and legacy will be held Monday, November 20, 2006, at 11 AM at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 111 Whalley Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 9-11 AM. Fraternal services will begin at 10 AM. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Building Fund or to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
Reuben James Huckaby, Sr.
1907 - 2007
Reuben James Huckaby, Sr., husband of the late Mattie Lourena Smith Huckaby, departed this life January 2, 2007. Reuben was born September 26, 1907, in Macon, GA, son of the late Hilliard and Sarah Calloway Huckaby.
He moved to New Haven, CT in 1925. Reuben accepted Christ as his personal savior early in his life. He was a member of St. Matthew's UFWB Church for over seventy years where he sang in the Senior Choir. He was also a member of Widow Son Lodge No. 1 P.H.F. & A.M. in New Haven, CT for over fifty years.
Prior to retirement, Reuben was employed by New Haven Railroad and Winchester Repeating Arms.
Reuben leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, Richard Huckaby (Annie) of New Haven, CT and Reuben Huckaby, Jr. (Carol) of Hamden, CT; and three daughters, Sarah Hunter (Ojie) and Lillian E. Huckaby both of New Haven, CT and Carolyn Harrison of Pasadena, CA. He also leaves three sisters, Ludelia Daniels and Sadie Holley both of New Haven, CT and Agnes Williams of New London, CT; a brother, Hilliard Huckaby of Anniston, AL; twenty-three grandchildren; forty-four great-grandchildren; twelve great-great grandchildren; sisters-in law, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by brothers, Walter, Eugene and Floyd Huckaby and two grandchildren.
