1940 - 2006

Roy Bowman, 66, of New Haven, departed this life on November 4, 2006.

Born in Lanesboro, NC on May 9, 1940, he was the son of the late Jerry Baxter Bowman and Ida Crowder Bowman.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Deitsch Plastic, Inc. as a supervisor.

He is survived by his children, Peggy, Doretta and Jeffrey Bowman; brothers, Willie, Baxter Jerry, Clyde and Bishop Claude Bowman; sisters, Edna Bowman, Allie Mae Young and Tina Cunningham; stepchildren, Robert, Freeman and David Anderson and Joanne Braggs; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by brothers, Raymond and Rayford Bowman and a sister, Willie Mae Nicholson.

A funeral service celebrating Mr. Bowman's life and legacy will be held Saturday, November 11, 2006, at 9 AM at Faith Refuge Church, 70 West St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 8-9 AM. Burial in Hamden Plains Cemetery.

Lula Mae Henyard
1922 - 2010

Lula Mae Henyard, 87, of West Haven, departed this life February 14, 2010. She was the widow of Woodfen Henyard.

Born in Macon, GA, November 19, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Rosalie Calloway.

She leaves to cherish her memory, sons, John and Ricky Henyard; daughters, Winnie Jeter and Karen Henyard; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by sons, Woodfen and Robert Henyard and Gregory Kelsey; and a daughter Deborah Henyard.

A celebration of Mrs. Henyard’s life and legacy will be held Saturday, February 20, 2010, at 9:00 AM at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held from 8:00-9:00 AM. Burial will be in Hamden Plains Cemetery.

Henry E. Terry
1913 - 2006

Henry E. Terry, 93, of New Haven, departed this life on October 19, 2006. He was the husband of Sally Terry.

Born in South Boston, VA, on April 23, 1913, he was the son of the late George and Mary Cole Terry.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a freight handler by Amtrak.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Henry Terry, Jr.; a sister, Dorothy Foster; grandchildren, Phillip and Kellen Pervis; 5 great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service celebrating Mr. Terry's life and legacy will be held Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at 11 AM at Community Baptist Church, 143 Shelton Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10-11 AM. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.

Frederick J. Williams, Sr.
1934 - 2007

Frederick J. Williams, Sr., 73, of Naugatuck, departed this life August 7, 2007. He was the husband of Pauline Williams.

Born in New Haven, CT, May 31, 1934, he was the son of the late Calvin and Sarah Williams.

Prior to retirement, he was employed at Southern CT State University as a Mail Handler.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Jill L. Williams, Frederick J. Williams, Jr. (Terry), Jeffery K. and James C. Williams; 4 grandchildren; a great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Frank, Russell, Ernest, Leroy, Arthur and James Williams and Virginia Burke.

A celebration of Mr. Williams' life and legacy will be held Monday, August 13, 2007, at 11:00 am at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 111 Whalley Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 9:00-11:00 am. Burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Alice C. Chambers
1927 - 2009

Alice C. Chambers, 81, of Hamden, departed this life March 2, 2009. She was the widow of Albert E. Chambers.

Born in New Haven, CT, March 16, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Louise Morris (Moreira).

She was employed for numerous years by the Visiting Nurses Association as a Certified Nurse's Assistant.

Mrs. Chambers is survived by daughters, Francesca Thomas (Jesse) and Louise Morris; sons, George Chambers and Raymond Chambers (Vanessa); 15 grandchildren, Rashad Brooks and Andrew Dorsey; 26 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a son, Albert Chambers, Jr.; a daughter, Alice McCrea; and sisters, Ruth and Catherine Morris.

A celebration of Mrs. Chambers' life and legacy will be held Friday, March 6, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Martin DePorres Church, 136 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.

Lois C. Howell Whitfield Jones
1908 - 2009

Lois C. Howell Whitfield Jones, 100, of Huntington St., New Haven, fell asleep in death on Monday, May 4, 2009, after a brief illness.

Mrs. Jones, the daughter of the late William B. and Matilda W. Howell, was born December 12, 1908 in Brockton, MA.

She was the widow of the late Hiram C. Whitfield and the late Clifton C. Jones.

Mrs. Jones was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and prior to retiring was employed at Yale University.

She is survived by daughters, Dolores Whitfield Daniels (Charles) and Andrea L. Whitfield, both of New Haven; a stepdaughter, Barbara Brown of New Jersey; daughters-in-law, Thelma Whitfield of West Haven and Joyce Whitfield of New Haven; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her sons, Hiram Whitfield, Jr., Kenneth Whitfield and Alfred Whitfield; a daughter, Marilyn Whitfield; a sister, Marie Howell Cornwell; a brother, Badger Howell; and a grandson.

A memorial service to celebrate Mrs. Jones' life and legacy will be held Friday, May 8, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven.

Beatrice O. Fuqua
1936- 2006

Beatrice O. Fuqua, 69, of New Haven, departed this life, April 30, 2006.

Ms. Fuqua was born in Abingdon, VA, October 24, 1936, daughter of the late Marshall and Helen Fuqua.

She is survived by a son, Minister Barry Fuqua; brothers, Jerry and Joseph Fuqua; and 5 grandchildren. She was predeceased by brothers, Marshall Jr. and Edward M. Fuqua; and a sister, Marian Askew Erkerd.

A funeral service in celebration of Beatrice's life will be held Monday at 7 PM at Christian Love Center, 154 Derby Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 6-7 PM.

Thomas Edward Lee
1945 - 2006

Thomas Edward Lee, 60, of Hamden, departed this life on January 30, 2006, in New Haven, CT. He was the husband of Doris Lee.

Mr. Lee was born March 3, 1945, in Anderson County, SC, son of the late Frank Lee and Marie Garrison Lee.

He was employed by Connecticut Container for 38 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Melissa Jones and Dwayne McDowell; 3 grandchildren; a sister, Rachel Owens; brothers, Charles and Clarence Lee; a godchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Amy Louise Lee and brothers, Ralph, Frank "Tiny, " Jimmy and Lonnie Lee.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, February 2, 2006, at 7pm at St. Matthew's UFWB Church, 400 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 6pm-7pm. Burial Sunday in Clemson, SC.

Luretha Saleem Brown
1942 - 2009

Luretha Saleem Brown, 66, of Hamden, departed this life July 15, 2009.

Born in Leland, NC, December 2, 1942, she was the daughter of the late George W. Jones and Bessie Mae Brown Jones.

Prior to retiring, she was employed at the former SNET Co. as an Assistant Manager.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Edna A. Williams; a sister, Edna McClendon (Rowan); brothers, Edwin Jones (Inez), Leon Jones (Michelle), Alton Lee Jones, and Richard Young (Laura); grandchildren, Waverly P. Williams, III (Myla), Kenneth D. Saleem, Jr. (Christina) and Crystal N. Williams; great grandchildren, Cherish Bell, Kenya Saleem and Jamya Tolson; and a host of special nieces, special nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by sons, Alfonza W. Saleem and Kenneth D. Saleem, Sr.; her grandparents, Moses and Rachel Brown; and brothers, David Jones, Alexander Vereen and George Young.

A celebration of Ms. Brown's life and legacy will be held Monday, July 20, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at New Flame Restoration Christian Center, 1375 State St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Gaye D. Williams
1941- 2005

Gaye D. Williams, 64, of Cherry Ann St., New Haven, died on August 9, 2005. She was the wife of Stentson Williams, Jr.

Mrs. Williams was born May 28, 1941, in Chatham, VA. She was the daughter of the late Carter and Emmie Jones.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed by HealthNet as a claims analyst.

She was a baptized Jehovah's Witness.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Steven (Cynthia) Williams, Teri (Arthur) Maebry, Jr., Rodney (Lisa) Williams, Stentson Keith (Diane) Williams and Cynthia (Keontae) Lewis; grandchildren, Keona, Marquis, Tatiana, Kristopher, Arthur, Stentson Keith Jr., Janaya, Ashley and Devante; a brother, Bennie Jones; sisters, Ruby Pritchett, Eelva Olds and Adream Price; and other relatives and friends. Mrs. Williams was predeceased by a brother, James Jones.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, August 20, 2005, at 1pm at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 885 Wintergreen Ave., Hamden.
