Alice M. Grabey, 79, of Millsboro, formerly of Schuylkill Haven, Pa., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday May 26, 2006, at home.
Mrs. Grabey was born Feb. 21, 1927 in Minersville, PA daughter to the late Christian and Alice (Jack) Brown.
She was a homemaker. Mrs. Grabey was a member of the Long Neck United Methodist Church in Millsboro, the Unity Chapter 16 Order of Eastern Star in Lewes, the American Legion Auxiliary Post 28 of Millsboro and she was a board member of AARP chapter, Long Neck.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Charles W. Grabey; a daughter, Phyllis Koch and husband Allen C. of Hamburg, Pa.; a brother, James Brown of Foristell, Mo. and a granddaughter, Tanya Hawkins and her husband Sean stationed in Germany.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may call after 10 a.m. Burial will be held at 2 p.m Thursday, June 1, at Fort Indiantown Gap National cemetery
in Annville, Pa.

Ruth Ann Kowalski, 59, of Jacksonville, Fla., died Monday, May 22, 2006, at home
Mrs. Kowalski was preceded in death by her father, William Luster Spicer
She is survived by her mother, Hazel Toomey Spicer of Oak Orchard; her husband, Michael Kowalski of Jacksonville; her brothers and sisters, Donald Spicer of Seaford, Charles Spicer of Seaford, Violet Rust of Seaford, and Edward Spicer of Oak Orchard; five children, Cassandra Webb of Delmar, Charles Toomey Jr. of Gumboro, Crystal Lewis of Felton, William Toomey of Selbyville and James Toomey Sr. of Georgetown; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a life long friend Charles Toomey Sr., and lots of loving friends and extended family.
Services will be held at noon, Tuesday May 30 at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St. Millsboro, De. where friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon. The Revered Robert Hudson will officiate. Interment will be in Millsboro cemetery , Millsboro, Delaware
Edward C. Hensler,

Edward C. Hensler, 69, of Dagsboro and formerly of Baltimore, Md., passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2006, at home.
Mr. Hensler was born Aug. 22, 1936 in Baltimore, son to the late Harry and Laura Hensler.
He was a retired printer from the Baltimore Sun Newspaper where he was employed for 38 years. Mr. Hensler was a member of the Moose Lodge in Glen Burnie.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Hensler.
He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years Doris A. (Megary) Hensler; a son, Chuck Hensler; two daughters, Sherry Cromwell and Chris Spyridakos; two sisters, Harriett Scott and Carolynn Rizzo; six grandchildren Jesse, Tina, Holly, Danielle, Alex and Adam; and two stepchildren, Marc Cooke and Kim Cooke.
Services will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday May 30, at the Bethany Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, West Ave., Ocean View. Interment will be private.

Roland D. Bunting,
retired banker
Roland D. Bunting, 76, Lewes, went home to the Lord on Saturday, May 27, 2006, after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family at Beebe Medical Center.
Mr. Bunting was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a faithful Christian and member of Conley’s United Methodist Church near Angola. He had sung over the years in many churches and had been a constant soloist at Conley’s. Roland touched the lives of many young people who were struggling with their young lives even to the point of taking them into his home to give them a safe haven.
Roland retired from Sussex Trust Co. in Milton in 1972 as cashier to become owner/operator of Santa’s Forest Nursery that led to becoming owner of Beaver Dam Acres Landscaping and Lawn Service. Following that, he was the first in Delaware to raise and harvest Cape American Beach Grass in partnership with Bob Raley. He sold the beach grass for dune preservation from North Carolina to New England. In 1988, he went with Grotto Pizza on the Avenue in the Maintenance/Custodial Department until retiring in 2005.
He is survived by his loving wife, Hester B. Bunting, whom he would have been married to 58 years on June 26; two sons, Gregory W. Bunting and wife, Sharleen, and their two children, Jesse R. and Jaime R. Bunting, and son Donald A. Bunting and wife, Earleen, and their son, Derek Bunting.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 31, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, with interment to follow in Conley’s United Methodist cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 30, at the funeral home.

George Robert Doherty,

George Robert Doherty, 77, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 25, 2006, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Wilmington on Oct. 12, 1928, Bob was the son of John and Anne Doherty. He attended St. Elizabeth’s Grade School and was a graduate of Henry C. Conrad High School.
A 35-year DuPont employee, he retired from the company’s Experimental Station in 1985. As a young man, Bob was active in local Democratic Party politics and one of his prized possessions was a letter he received from then-Senator, John F. Kennedy, in June 1960 thanking him for his support in the presidential campaign. Bob was a long-time Delaware football season ticketholder and a passionate fan of Notre Dame football as well as the Eagles and Phillies.
In his later years, he loved nothing more than to watch and root for his grandchildren as they played soccer, baseball and basketball, and rowed and swam competitively.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Florence Grodzicki Doherty; two brothers, Jack and his wife, Sandra, of Norfolk, Va. and Bill and his wife, Janice, of Rehoboth Beach; a sister, Mary Kooser and her husband, Bill, of Wilmington; a daughter, Kathleen Turkel and her husband, Gerald, of Newark; a son, Robert, and his wife, Carol, of Potomac, Md.; five grandchildren, Eli and Helen Turkel and Ryan, Kevin and Caitlin Doherty; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek.

Howard M. DeWalt,
World War II veteran
Howard M. DeWalt, 84, of Rehoboth Beach and formerly of Royersford, Pa., died Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Born in Royersford to the late Howard R. and Mary Keim DeWalt, Mr. DeWalt graduated from Spring City High School, class of 1939. He was employed at the former Spring Ford Tannery Co. and the former Jones Motors Co. in Spring City as a bench mechanic.
Mr. DeWalt served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and was a member of St. Matthew’s U.C. Church in Chester Springs, Pa. He was an avid fisherman and reader. He was also a member of Spring City American Legion, Thomas W. O’Connor Post 602 and Rehoboth Beach VFW Post 7447.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy M. Opperman DeWalt; a sister, Janet Irey of Spring City; three brothers, Donald DeWalt of Pughtown, Pa., Richard DeWalt of Royersford and Glenn DeWalt of Spring City; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Carl DeWalt.
Services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 27, at St. Matthew’s U.C. Church, 2350 Conestoga Road, Chester Springs, where friends may call at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Judith A. Meier will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Joseph F. Carre,

Joseph F. “Pop Pop” Carre, 98, of Wilmington, and formerly of Millsboro, went home to be with the Lord on May 22, 2006 after a short illness.
Mr. Carre grew up along the Brandywine River where he held various jobs such as working for Mrs. Crownshield as a gardener, a welder in the shipyard during World War II and also as a carpenter. He enjoyed fishing, nature and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Julia A. Carre in 1995.
He is survived by a son Robert J. Carre of New Castle; a daughter Marianne Arcidiacono of Wilmington; a grandson Scott Carre and wife Michelle of Clayton; five granddaughters, Julia Link and husband Ed of Hockessin, Michelle Carre of Newark, Angel Musselman and husband Dan of Hockessin, Andrea Twardus and husband Andy of Wilmington and Alicia Arcidiacono of Wilmington; two great-grandsons Matt and Samuel; seven great-granddaughters, Corrine, Taylor, Katlyn, Nicole, Jessica, Carre and Elizabeth.
Services were held at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Rd., with interment in Asbury Methodist Church cemetery , Georgetown.
Elizabeth W. Clark,
retired English teacher
Elizabeth Williams Clark, 91, died peacefully in her sleep one day shy of her 92nd birthday, Thursday, May 18, 2006, in Brandywine Assisted Living, Rehoboth Beach.
Mrs. Clark was born May 19, 1914, in Federalsburg, Md., daughter of the late Harvey D. and Mary Towers Williams.
When she was 6, the family moved to Laurel so that her father could take a cashier position with the Sussex Trust Co. He later became the bank’s president.
Mrs. Clark attended Goucher College and graduated in 1935 with a degree in English. In 1942, she received a master’s degree from Mount Holyoke College.
She taught high-school English in Laurel and at the Westover School, Middlebury, Conn.
Mrs. Clark married in 1944, and the couple made their home in Rochester, N.Y., for 35 years. In 1952, they built a summer home in Rehoboth Beach, which became their permanent residence in 1979.
She was an avid bridge player and earned more than 500 master points playing duplicate bridge.
Mrs. Clark, while living in Rochester, served as school-board president for 12 years and was active in a number of community-based organizations. More recently, she was a member and former deacon of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Rehoboth Beach. She was an honorary member and past president of the Village Improvement Association and was a member of the Sussex Gardeners. She also was a member of the Col. David Hall chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur E. Clark, in 1989; and a brother, W. Robert Williams, in 1999.
She is survived by a daughter, Susan Clark Iverson, of Washington, D.C.; two sons, Arthur E. Clark Jr. of Nyack, N.Y., and Robert C. Clark of Rochester; five grandchildren, Margot Iverson, Rebecca Iverson Mahoney, Meggan Clark, Jessa Clark and Matthew Clark; a sister-in-law, Carolyn M. Williams of Laurel; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be 3 p.m., Sunday, May 28, in Westminster Presbyterian Church, 301 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach. Burial will be private in Laurel Hill cemetery , Laurel.

Alice L. Bowers, 92, of Lewes, formerly of Newark passed away Sunday, May 21, 2006.
She was a retired printing assistant for Wm. Cann Printers.
Alice is survived by one son, Walter Lee of Wilmington; four daughters, Winifred Marcheski and Sandra Hults both of Wilmington, Diane Bowers of Florida, and Dawn Capano of Rehoboth Beach; one sister, Loretta Robinson of Newark; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 25, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Hwy., New Castle. Interment will be in the adjoining memorial park.

Silvio H. Lopez,

Silvio “Si” Henry Lopez, 96, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Wilmington and Lewes, died on April 6, 2006.
Si was born in Princeton, N.J., the son of the Venerable Jose M. Lopez-Guillen and Harriet Clarkson Marsh, who was the daughter of Crowell Marsh, founder of Marsh and Company.
He graduated from Princeton University in 1929 and joined the DuPont Company, where he was a chemical supervisor for 41 years. He was a member of the DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, the Shawnee Country Club in Milford and the Lewes Yacht Club.
Si served as vestry member, senior warden and lay rreader at St. Andrew’s Church, Wilmington, St. Peter’s Church, Lewes, and St. Bartholomew’s Church, St. Petersburg, Fla.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Weston Hawley Lopez; two sons, John H. Lopez of Durango, Colo. and Thomas M. Lopez of Santa Fe, N.M.; a daughter, Linda Weston Lopez of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; two grandchildren, John Paul Guillen Lopez and Dr. Katharine Lopez Weymouth, both of New York City.; and nieces and nephews in New Jersey and California.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at the Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew and Matthew, Eighth and Shipley streets, Wilmington.
