Robert Louis Smith Jr.,
WGMD general manager
Robert Louis Smith Jr., 74, of Georgetown, peacefully passed away Nov. 15, 2004, at his home, surrounded by his entire family.
Mr. Smith was born April 11, 1930, in Knoxville, Tenn., to the late Robert L. Smith Sr. and Eula Smith.
After moving to southern New Jersey with his parents in 1947, Mr. Smith graduated from Gloucester City High School in 1948. He joined the U.S. Army in 1951 and served during the Korean War conflict in the Philippines as a radio operator.
Upon his discharge, he attended and graduated from Columbia Institute, a respected broadcasting school in Philadelphia, Pa., in 1953.
He began a lifelong career in radio broadcasting in 1955, first at 1410 AM-WDOV in Dover, before moving to Georgetown two years later and becoming the popular, respected morning personality at 900 AM-WJWL.
He also provided broadcasting services for its sister station, WSEA-FM 93.5 and sold advertising.
In 1980, Mr. Smith left the Georgetown area and was promoted to station manager at WLRB/WGMD 92.7 near Rehoboth Beach. He remained there until his passing, serving in several capacities, including general manager for a period of time. He also created the WGMD Sports Boosters Scholarship for graduating high school seniors in Sussex County 24 years ago, a program that has aided 48 young men and women student-athletes in their quest for higher education.
Mr. Smith enjoyed sports and music, and loved his family very much. He treated everyone in life with fairness and goodness in his heart, and therefore accrued countless friends along the journey. He was a Christian, and loved his Lord, attending church nearly every Sunday morning where he served in the vestry, ushered and was a lay leader.
He wanted his last words to be to today’s youth: Give yourself the gift of life; don’t smoke. Mr. Smith smoked from his teens until he was 51 and died of complications from lung cancer and emphysema.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Phyllis Bailey Smith of Georgetown; four proud children and the spouses of three, David Michael Smith and Geralynn, Christine Smith Bowden and James, Michael Eric Smith, all of Georgetown, and Katrina Smith Stevens and Jeff of Middletown; five grandchildren, Trey Bowden, Skyler Bowden, Bailey Stevens, Kasey Stevens and Rebekah Joy Smith; a brother and sister-in-law, William and Alaine Smith of Gloucester, N.J.; his father- and mother-in-law, Oscar and Mildred Bailey of Redden; and many friends.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 20, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Pine and Academy streets, Georgetown, with burial in the church cemetery immediately following the service.

Carrie H. Leverage,
retired seamstress
Carrie H. Leverage, 99, of Milton, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, in Harrison House of Georgetown.
Mrs. Leverage was a seamstress for Graves Sewing Factory, and also a farmer. She was a member of the Milton Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Thomas; her second husband, John Leverage; her daughter and a son-in-law, Marie and Norman Lawson; two brothers, George and Milton Betts; and three sisters, Winnie Walls, Mammie Burton and Lydia Thomas.
She is survived by a son, Norman Thomas; a stepdaughter, Frances Giovannozzi; a daughter-in-law, Carol Thomas; her grandchildren, Gary and Jeanne Lawson, Linda Lawson and Tracey Weston, Thomas Lawson, Jerome Lawson, Richard and Pam Lawson, John and Barbara Thomas, Robin Parker and Michelle and Joseph Guerin; her great-grandchildren, Jason Lawson, Joshua Walstead, Erica Paquette, Tyler Weston, Jacki Weston, Jacki Lynn Moore, Brett Thomas, Lindsay Hetrick, Charles D. Parker IV, Nathan Parker, Melissa Parker and Joseph Thomas Guerin; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton, where friends may call one hour earlier. Burial will be in Odd Fellows cemetery , Milton.
James Littleton Miller,
retired truck driver
James Littleton Miller, 48, of Millsboro, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, in the Veterans Hospital, Elsmere.
Mr. Miller was born in Jamesville, Va., son of Rosa Lee Miller of Millsboro and the late Littleton Miller.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1972 to 1975, and later in the Navy from 1980 to 1986. While in the Navy, he served aboard the aircraft USS Nimitz. He also served in the National Guard from 1987 to 1991.
Mr. Miller was a truck driver for Swift Transportation Co. in Tennessee until forced his retirement about a year ago.
In addition to his mother, Rosa Lee Miller, he is survived by a brother, Daniel Lee Miller of Millsboro; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Joyce Ann Johnson of Wilmington, Evelyn Dale and Jack Johnson of Millsboro, Elizabeth G.P. Miller-Johnson and Kim Johnson, and Lisa B. and Ian Duncan of Hamben, Conn.; a paternal grandmother, Dorothy Ames of Millsboro; 10 nieces and nephews; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, in Dickerson Chapel AME Church, U.S. 113 in Millsboro, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery , Millsboro.
Megan Ann Workman,
Millsboro homemaker
Megan Ann Workman, 26, of Millsboro, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, in Christiana-Care Medical Center in Newark.
Mrs. Workman was born May 12, 1978, in Milford.
She was a wife, mother and homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Jeff A. Workman of Millsboro; a son, Jeffrey Allen Workman Jr.; her mother, Barbara Moore Temple of Lewes; her father, William E. Moore of Lewes; her paternal grandmother, Betty Moore of Rehoboth Beach; a sister, Jennifer Moore of Herndon, Va.; her stepfather, Robert Temple; and her stepmother, Patricia Moore.
Services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, in Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call one hour earlier. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery , Berlin, Md.

Mable E. Schrock,
foster mother
Mable E. Schrock, 76, of near Georgetown, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at home.
Mrs. Schrock was a homemaker.
She was very active with the Girl Scouts of America and the Brownies and was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose (Women of the Moose), and a member of the Indian River Fire Company’s Ladies Auxiliary in Oak Orchard. Her doors were always open to everyone, especially children; she served as a foster mother for mentally and physically handicapped children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew R. Schrock Sr., a son, Andrew Schrock Jr. in 1978; and a brother, Pat Callahan.
She is survived by two sons, Sidney Schrock Spacey and William Schrock; four daughters, Alice Scapellato, Betty Twilley, Barbara Goodyear and Cella Dora Lawrence; two brothers, Raymond Callahan and Frank Callahan; two sisters, Betty Edwards and Marilyn Campbell; 19 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 28 in the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery , Patriot’s Way, near Millsboro. Mr. Benjamin Schrock will officiate.

Charles T. Douglas Jr.,

Charles Taylor Douglas Jr., 77, of Lewes, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at Harbor Health Care, Lewes.
Mr. Taylor was a supervisor for C&P Telephone prior to his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Douglas of Lewes; his daughter, JoAnne Douglas of North East, Md.; three sons, Richard T. Douglas of Lisbon, Md., Brian L. Douglas of Lewisville, Texas and Jeffrey Douglas of Burtonsville, Md. and the late Charles L. Douglas; five grandchildren, Christopher, Melissa, Stuart, Alexander and Logan Douglas; one great-grandson, Riley Douglas; a brother, Robert L. Douglas of Lawton, Okla.; and a sister, Judy Noland of Gainesville, Fla.
Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 16, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, North Beach, Md. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery , Cheltenham, Md.

Frank L. Reed Sr.,
Lincoln farmer
Frank L. Reed Sr., 89, of Lincoln, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, in Country Rest Home, Greenwood.
Mr. Reed was born in New Jersey, the son of the late Charles and Lillie Dodd Reed.
He worked as a farmer in the Slaughter Neck area. He enjoyed wood carving, fishing and the outdoors. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.. He was a member of the Lincoln United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Blanche R. Bennett, and by a son, Frank L. Reed Jr., Oct. 9, 2004.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marguerite Wells Reed; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Charlotte and Howard Kirsch of Lewes and Joan Kay and Woodrow Morgan of Milford; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Reed of Estero, Fla.; eight grandchildren; Frank Reed III, Carrie Lynn Sigmon, Christopher H. Reed, Sharon Reed Purcell, Sheila Mae Sharp, Bruce Morgan, Lisa Davies and Dr. Gary Morgan; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Berry-Short Funeral Home, Milford, with burial in Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.

Holly J. Malago,
former music teacher
Holly J. Malago, 39, of Eustis, Fla. and formerly of Dover, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, after being struck while on a motorcycle she and her fiancé, Marat Fink, were riding.
Ms. Malago was a 1983 graduate of Dover High School and a 1989 graduate of Delaware State College, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in education.
She was a music teacher at Middletown High School from 1989 to 1993, and had served as manager of the family business, Malago Tire and Automotive of Smyrna until 1999. She also taught music at Holy Cross schools and served as music director and was the catalyst for the Holy Cross band and music department. At the time of her death, she and her fiancé had managed Advanced Prosthetics Inc. of Eustis.
She is survived by her parents, Joseph E. and Ruth A. Malago of Dover; two brothers, Joseph J. Malago and Matthew E. Malago, both of Dover; three sisters, Cherie Malago Butler of Milton, Rebecca Malago Smith and Wendy Malago Needham, both of Frederica; her maternal grandmother, Virginia Leone of Dover; her special little angel, Gabby Fink; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, in Holy Cross Church, Dover, with burial in the Holy Cross cemetery , Dover.

Carrollton N. Jones,
retired manager
Carrollton N. Jones, 76, of Chestertown, Md., died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, in Chester River Hospital Center, Chestertown.
Mrs. Jones was born March 10, 1928, in Baltimore, daughter of the late Gere and Annie Pletzer Nichols.
She was raised by foster parents in Kennedyville and in 1956 settled in Chestertown, raising her family.
Jones had worked for Vita Foods until its closing, and for the past 28 years, was employed by Dixon Value & Coupling Co., currently as a shop floor manager.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, William Carlton Jones Sr., and in 1987; a brother, Emory; and two sisters, Viola and Eunice Nichols.
She is survived by a son, William Carlton Jr. and his wife Joy of Kennedyville; a daughter, Doreen Jensen of Rehoboth Beach; four grandchildren, William C. “Trey” Jones III, Amy Hickman, Joe Hickman and Jennifer Jensen; and four great-grandchildren, Brandon Jones, Rachel Jones, Sara Schauber and Cameron Schauber.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, in Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena.
Burial will be in Chester cemetery , Chestertown,

Mildred C. Beach,
retired social worker
Mildred C. Beach, 90, of Seaford, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, in the Methodist Manor House.
Beach was a social worker at the Stockley Center in Millsboro, retiring in 1981 after 31 years of state service.
She was active in the Acorn Club, Hospice Festival of Trees, Seaford Head Start and was a mentor for many children in the Seaford School District. She was also a long time member of the Mount Olive United Methodist Church in Seaford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry M. Beach, in 1959.
She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca W. McGraw of Sarasota, Fla.; a nephew, Thomas Beach of Lewes; and a niece, Joanne Brittingham of Laurel.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, in Methodist Manor Chapel, 1001 Middleford Rd., Seaford.
