Wayne V. VanAuken,
Preston Trucking retiree
Wayne V. VanAuken, 71, of Cabbage Corner, Georgetown, passed away at his home on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. VanAuken was born in Sayre, Pa., on Sept. 7, 1936, son of the late James and Hazel Rowe VanAuken who resided in Georgetown.
Mr. VanAuken retired from Preston Trucking Co. in 1996, was an active farmer and was recently employed at the CHEER Center in Roxana.
He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Georgetown.
He enjoyed working on the farm and traveling in his motor home and was an avid collector of coin banks and Hess trucks.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years of marriage, Patricia Wilson VanAuken; a son, Kevin VanAuken and wife Beth Ann of Ocean View; a daughter, Karliss Carmean and husband Kerry of Millsboro; a brother, Charles VanAuken of Millsboro; five grandchildren, Jessica Jester-Carmean, April Blevins, Jordan VanAuken, Kara-Beth Carmean and Jenna-Rae Carmean; and a great-grandson, Ryan Blevins.
A funeral service will be held at noon, Saturday, Nov. 3, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2, and after 11 a.m., Saturday morning. Burial will be in St. Johns cemetery, Georgetown.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.
Clinton Burroughs Sr.,
retired truck driver
Clinton E. Burroughs Sr., 70, of Millsboro, died Thursday, Oct. 25, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Inez Clara Bennett Burroughs; a daughter, Nancy Burroughs; one sister, Catherine; and two brothers, Eugene and Edward.
He is survived by his children, Wayne J. Burroughs of Millsboro, Clinton E. Burroughs Jr. of Georgetown, James Burroughs and wife Liann of Georgetown, Steven Van Dyke and companion Michelle of Port Byron, N.Y., Tammy Hackett and husband John of Port Byron, Tina Thompson and husband James of Port Byron, and Debbie Burroughs of Auburn, N.Y.; brothers, Charles Burroughs and wife June of Rochester, N.Y., and William Burroughs and wife Pam of Auburn; sisters, Phyllis Daddabbo and husband Jack of Auburn, and Shirley Ward and husband Louie of Auburn; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Clinton was a retired truck driver. He was a member of the Moose Lodge 646 in Lewes. He loved his family, grandchildren and pets. He enjoyed cutting grass and doing lawn care. He held offices in the Moose Lodge and was very proud of his accomplishments there.
A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m., Friday Nov. 2, at Millsboro cemetery, Millsboro, with interment to follow.
The Rev. Bob. Hudson will officiate.

Dell M. Printz Jr.,
TV Guide retiree
Dell M. Printz Jr., 87, of Bethany Beach, previously of Bayonet Point, Fla., and Blue Bell, Pa., died Tuesday Oct. 23, 2007, at his home, from complications of Parkinson’s disease.
An original employee of TV Guide magazine in Radnor, Pa., Dell retired in 1987, after over 35 years of service, as director of research and development.
Dell was born on Dec. 21, 1919, in Chicago, Ill., the only child of Rhoana Williams and Dell M. Printz. After graduating from Evanston Area High School, Dell accepted a scholarship to Princeton University, from which he graduated with an economics degree in 1940. After a short career with Carnegie Steel, Dell enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Sarasota in the Pacific during World War II. During his service, Dell rose to the rank of chief petty officer.
After discharge, Dell married Grace M. Bradbury Printz, whom he had met while working at the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of New York. They settled in the metro New York City area, later moving to Charlotte, N.C., and then to Blue Bell.
In addition to his publishing career and participation in many civic and professional associations, Dell’s accomplishments included contract bridge master, a love for big band music, as well as playing minor league baseball with the Chicago White Sox in the early 1940s. Some of his prized possessions were two baseballs autographed by eleven future Major League Baseball Hall of Fame players, including Babe Ruth. Dell got these players to sign the balls while he was a spring training bat boy for the White Sox in 1930.
Dell is survived by Grace, his loving and devoted wife of over 58 years. Also left to cherish Dell’s memory are his five children, daughters, Dede, of Dagsboro, Dari of Quaker Hill, Conn., and Dylan and her husband Frank Pugliese of Upper Gwynedd, Pa.; as well as sons, Dell III of Blue Bell, and Dixon of Blue Bell; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Burial will be private.

Rada Catherine Lewis,
Carey’s Camp member
Rada Catherine Lewis, 80, of Laurel, passed away Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at Green Valley Terrace in Millsboro.
Mrs. Lewis was born in Pittsville, Md., daughter of the late Chester and Daisey Wootten.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Lewis was a cheerful lady who was devoted to her children and grandchildren. Her summer highlight was attending Carey’s Camp Revival meetings, which she attended faithfully since she was a child.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Alvin P. Lewis.
Mrs. Lewis is survived by a son, Preston A. Lewis, of Georgetown; two daughters, Barbara Hearn and her husband Arnold of Laurel, and Linda Lewis, of Salisbury, Md.; one brother, Jack Wootten, of Greenwood; two sisters, Gertrude Bradford, of Salisbury, Md., and Anna Lee Robinson, of Bethel; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at Carey’s cemetery in Millsboro at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30. Pastor Chuck Reynolds will officiate.
Interment will also be at Carey’s cemetery.

Louise M. Monaco,
excellent baker
Louise M. Monaco, 94, of Seaford, died on Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at Genesis Elder Care, Seaford Center.
Mrs. Monaco operated Monaco’s Restaurant and Grocery Store in Seaford with her husband Frank. She was an excellent baker of pies and cakes. Louise was a life member of the Seaford Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Frank Monaco, died in 1998. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey L. Monaco and his fiancée, Brenda Hoopes of Lewes; and two grandchildren, Brandon and Sean Monaco.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 29, with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery, Seaford.

Morris E. Forrest,
retired deckhand
Morris E. Forrest, 83, of Millsboro, formerly of Ocean View, Va., passed away at his home on Friday, Oct. 19, 2007.
He was born in Mathews, Va., son of the late William and Mamie Machen Forrest. He was a retired deckhand for the Allied Tugboat Towing Co. in Norfolk, Va.
He was a veteran of World War II and Korea, serving with the U.S. Army.
In his spare time, Morris enjoyed watching crime and drama on television.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Wilson and Coles Forrest.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Ann Dailey, with whom he lived; two nieces, Cheryl Kane and her husband Harry of Yeadon, Pa., and Mary Lou Kinsolving and her husband Larry of Newark; and two nephews, John Dailey of Lansdowne, Pa., and John Forrest and his wife Myra of Gilbertsville, Pa.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday Nov. 3, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 318 S. DuPont Hwy., Georgetown, DE 19947.
Catherine Maggioli Gorman,

Catherine Maggioli Gorman, 91, of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Wilmington, died on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, in Brandywine Assisted Living, Rehoboth Beach, with her daughters by her side.
Mrs. Gorman was born on Sept. 10, 1916, in South Bend, Ind. She was the daughter of the late Theresa and Ferdinand Maggioli. Mrs. Gorman was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church and a member of its Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality, and she did volunteer work for the church including the Italian Festival. She also volunteered for the Junior Board at St. Francis Hospital. Mrs. Gorman and her husband helped to get Corpus Christi Church and School started. She was a past member of the DuPont Country Club. She moved to Wilmington in 1944 from South Bend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Gorman, who died on Jan. 2, 2002. She is survived by her daughters, Maureen Gorman Keck and her husband Dick of Rehoboth Beach, and Patricia D. Gorman of Wilmington; her brother, A. Fred Maggioli of Mishawaka, Ind.; her sister, Annette Linson of Mishawaka; her granddaughter, Courtney B. Peksens; and her great-grandchildren, Jake and Molly Catherine.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 27, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th and DuPont sts., Wilmington. Burial will be in All Saints cemetery, Wilmington. Friends may visit with the family at the Doherty Funeral Home, 1900 Delaware Ave., Wilmington, 7-9 p.m., Friday, Oct. 26.

Calvin Edwin Savage,
former horse trainer
Calvin Edwin “Wink” Savage, 59, of Millsboro, slipped away suddenly Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md.
Calvin was born Jan. 16, 1948, in Frankford. He was the son of the late James Edward Savage Sr. and Hattie Ella Ennis Savage.
“Wink,” as he was lovingly known to his family, attended William C. Jason High School and upon leaving high school entered the U.S. Army. After being honorably discharged, he began his work life with Conrail. He worked many years training horses in the Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey and Pennsylvania areas. Upon leaving the horse industry, he began working in the restaurant business at Key Largo, Fenwick Inn and Fagers Island to name a few, with Fenwick Inn being the most joyous. There Wink taught most of his nephews how to cook and to earn a living.
Calvin was an avid lover of horse races, football and cards. He became known to his family as the greatest “spade” player in the country. Calvin was also an avid reader of the daily newspaper and enjoyed reading the Bible and discussing different topics of the word.
Calvin will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Sylvester Sr. and Shirley Savage, and James Jr. and Gloria Savage, and a brother-in-law, Frederick Murray.
He leaves to cherish his memories for a lifetime two brothers, Harold Savage of Ocean View, and William Smith of Philadelphia, Pa.; three sisters, Mabel Parker of Berlin, Md., Christine and husband Charles Collick of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mary Murray of Millsboro, a special companion of 29 years, Ruth Roberts; five children he cared for as his own, David Duperron of Clarksville, Donald Duperron of Corpus Christi, Texas, Kevin Duperron of Delcastle, Kim Hefernan of Holiday, Fla., and Kerry Duperron of Millsboro; 15 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Services will be 1 p.m., Saturday Oct. 27, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call two hours prior to the services. Burial will be private on Monday, Oct. 29, at Mount Wesley cemetery, Snow Hill, Md.

Rosa L. Jerrell,

Rosa L. Jerrell, 86, of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Maryland, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, due to a heart attack, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
She was born March 21, 1921, in Lee County, Va., to Curtis and Gracie Welch Greer.
She married Otis Jerrell in 1938. She spent her time as a homemaker.
Her family remembers her as a loving mother with a never-ending smile and a kind word for everyone she met. Mrs. Jerrell was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Otis Jerrell; and a brother, Clyde Greer.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Jerrell of Rehoboth Beach, sons, Mickey Jerrell of Rehoboth Beach, and Ron and his wife Nancy Jerrell of Glen Burnie, Md.; two sisters, Irene Eldridge of Frederick, Md., and Joy Rogers of Elwood, Ind.; a brother, Dave Greer of Martinsburg, W.Va.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Oct. 8, 2007, at Donaldson Funeral Home Chapel in Laurel, Md. The Rev. Beverly Schnieder presided. Interment followed at Ivy Hill cemetery in Laurel.
