Lawrence Alphonsus Moroney of Dover died suddenly at work on Friday, February 9th, 2001. He was 55 years old.
Mr. Moroney was born on November 26, 1945 to the late Marguerite and Alphonsus J. Moroney. He graduated from Conrad High School in Wilmington, Delaware and from the Spring Garden Institute in Philadelphia, Pa. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1971. He was on active duty in Vietnam, and received the Purple Heart and Combat V Medal with Bronze Star. He also served in the U.S. Army National Guard in Delaware City until 1981.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Marydel, Maryland and the Knights of Columbus. He was employed by the State of Delaware Department of Transportation, Highway Maintenance, in Area 10, Bear, Delaware from 1975 to present.
He had a great love for antique cars and shows, and for his family and friends. He was dearly loved by his family.
Mr. Moroney is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Joan Francks Moroney; two children, Marguerite Rose Moroney of Dover and Lawrence A. Moroney, Jr. of Dover; 8 stepchildren, Deborah Hughart of Elkton, Maryland, Vincent Beddia of New Castle, John Beddia of Wilmington, Josephine Ponton of Port St. Lucie, Fl., Joan Beddia of Newark, Anne Yates of Titusville, Fl., Angela Langley of Hartly, De., and Agnes Prosceno of Titusville, Fl., 25 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Regina Merritt of Lincoln, De., and Rita Guajardo of Wilmington, De.; 3 step-brothers and 2 step-sisters, John O'Connell of North Carolina, Joseph O'Connell of New Jersey, Thomas O'Connell of Wilmington, De., Elaine Weber of Wilmington, De., and Mary Mezzatesta of Ocean View, De. In addition to his parents, Alphonsus and Marguerite Moroney, he was also preceded in death by his step-mother, Frances O'Connell Moroney.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 13th, at 10 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Marydel, Maryland. Friends may call on Monday, February 12th from 7 to 9 PM at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 East Lebanon Road, Dover. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, Delaware.
EARLENE W. MORRIS
Age 71 of Frederica, DE, died Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at home with her family at her side.
Mrs. Morris’s working career has included employment with the State Board of Education, 7 years as a bus driver for the Lake Forest School District but Earlene devoted most of her time helping out at Morris’ Market, their family owned and operated business in Frederica. She was a member of the Church of God, Milford.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, James H. Morris, three sons; Michael D. Morris of Dover, DE, David K. Morris of Milford, DE and James H. Morris, III of Frederica, DE, a daughter, Earlene W. Morris of Frederica, DE, a brother, Earl Webb of Dover, DE, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2001 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, DE, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica, DE.

Morton, Everett Glenn

Background: Mr. Morton was drafted in the Third US Army and served on the European Front as a machine gunner on a half-track, under General Patton. Mr. Morton was a heating and air conditioning installation and service technician who retired from Fisher Appliances of Milford after 47 years. He was a member of the VFW of Milford, the Milford American Legion, and the Delaware Standardbred Owners Association. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed hunting deer and ducks. Mr. Morton also loved harness racing and quite frequently served in the Paddock at the races taking care of the horses and drivers. After retirement, Mr. Morton could be found cutting grass all over the city of Milford with his lawn care business. Mr. Morton will be remembered as a good father and husband who was a good provider for his family.

Barbara Jean Mowday, 62, of Newark, died at Churchman’s Village Nursing Facility on December 21, 2000.
Miss Mowday was predeceased by her brother, Jackson Mowday, in December 1979. She is survived by her mother, Ruth (Roberts) Mowday of Wilmington; and two brothers, Charles of Wilmington, and Bud Mowday of Rehoboth.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 20 at 11:45 a.m. at the chapel at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. Nalley, John R.
John R. Nalley of Federalsburg, Maryland died Thursday, December 14, 2000 at Caroline Nursing Home in Denton, Maryland. He was born in Landover, Maryland on April 16, 1918 the son of the late Albert Sidney Nalley and Mary Ada Wildman Nalley. He served in the United States Coast Guard. He later served in the United States Army during World War II, Battery 112th Anti Aircraft Artillery Group, serving in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe, Ground Combat. He retired from the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC and from farming in 1974. He was a member of the Metropolitan Police Officers retirement Association. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy L. Calvin Nalley whom he married November 29, 1947, and three children: Reverend John A. Nalley of Sharptown, Maryland, Michael Nalley of Greenwood, Delaware and Charlene Cabrere of Federalsburg, Maryland, seven grandchildren: David Nalley, Cathy Nalley, Ginny Nalley, Nicholas Cabrere, Kristen Cabrere, Zachary Nalley and Shania Nalley, and one sister, Barbara Cox and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a sister and 4 brothers: Icilla Finnegan, Charles Nalley, Sydney Nalley, Neal Nalley and Sam Nalley. Funeral services for him will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 18, 2000 at Sharptown Asbury United Methodist Church in Sharptown with Reverend John A. Nalley, officiating. Interment will follow at the Eastern Shore veterans Cemetery in Beulah. Nelson, Mildred B.
DOVER -- Mildred B. Jones Nelson "Millie", died Thursday, February 1, 2001 in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 100. Mrs. Nelson was born in Dover, Delaware on September 21, 1900, daughter of the late George F. and Anna M. Lofland Jones. Mrs. Nelson worked as a secretary for the Bureau of Vital Records, Dover, retiring in 1950. As a young woman, she was active suffragette in the Woman's Suffrage Movement. She was a member of the People's United Church of Christ of Dover. She also was an active member and volunteer of the Dover Century Club, Dover Historical Society, Blood Bank of Delaware, and a recipient of their volunteer of the year award, Friends of John Dickinson Mansion, Red Cross, American Legion Auxiliary, Walter L. Fox Unit No. 2, Friends of Old Dover, and past Grand Dom of Old Dover Days, Harvest Years Senior Center, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Kent County Republican Women , the YMCA, and the Delaware Agriculture Museum, Women's Republican Club of Dover, and once was recognized as Republican Woman of the Year and the Stockley Center Ladies Auxiliary. After endless volunteer hours, Mrs. Nelson was recognized by the duPont Administration and declared a charter member of the Woodburn Volunteers in 1984. She gave freely of her time to historical and cultural events especially those of Dover where she volunteerd as hostess and guide at the Governors House, and was active with the Woodburn Volunteers Christmas Decorating Committee as well as a volunteer with the Agriculture Museum. Mrs. Nelson was past president of American Legion Auxiliary and in 1992 had been a member in good standing continuously for 65 years. She also was very active in the Club 55 senior citizens bowling league. She is predeceased by two brothers Nelson W. Jones and I. Lofland Jones, and three sisters Helen L. Jones and Mildred B. Jones and Mabelle Wild. She is survived by her loyal longtime friends and devoted caregivers Bonnie Johnson and Sam Hummel. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 West Camden-Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, where friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Newman, Madeline Joy
Madeline Joy Newman, 69, of Rising Sun, MD died Saturday, March 3, 2001 from complications of Alzheimer's Disease at the Calvert Manor Healthcare Center. Mrs. Newman was born Oct. 14, 1931 in Warren County near Front Royal, Virginia, the daughter of the late James Edward & Sarah Elizabeth (Rutherford) Sealock, Sr. She married Gerald "Jerry" W. Newman on October 28, 1950 in Arlington, Virginia. Mrs. Newman was a homemaker and in the late 1960s and until 1976 she worked as a kitchen aide in the Rising Sun High School. Until her disease became too debilitating, Mrs. Newman enjoyed square dancing and she sewed all her own square dance dresses. She also enjoyed traveling and camping in their motor home and browsing in antique stores. Survivors include her husband, Gerald; daughter, Wanda Leigh Reuter of Valparaiso, IN; son, Ronald Wayne Newman of Norfolk, VA; three grandchildren, Josh Reuter, Amy Reuter Sorrick & Rebecca Reuter; one great-grandchild, Riley Sorrick; a brother, James Sealock, Jr., and a sister, Patricia Tharpe all of Front Royal, VA. A brother, Meredith B. Sealock predeceased her in November 2000. Service will be held Wed. March 7th at 2:00 p.m. at Janes United Methodist Church. Age 53 of Newark, DE died at home on Thursday, March 8, 2001 after a courageous battle with emphysema. Patricia was a 1966 graduate of Claymont High School. She was a homemaker. Patricia is survived by her husband, William E. Nice; her son, William E. Nice, Jr. of Newark, DE; her daughter, Christine E. Nice, of Pike Creek; her mother, Hattie Loebe of Pike Creek; her brother, James Loebe of Claymont; her sister, Susan Greenholt of Hockessin; 2 nieces, Eva and Claudia Greenholt. George Niedermeier, 92, Pearson Cornor Road, Cheswold, passed away Monday December 11, 2000 at Residence with family and friends.
He was born on September 11, 1908 in Munich, Germany.
He came to the United States when he was 13 years old. After becoming a US citizen he served our country in the U.S. Army. He made his career as a machinist. He lved to work with machinery and had an extensive shop in his basement. Mr. Niedermeier married Catherine in 1931 anr made their home in Islip Terrace, Long Island, NY. There they raised their 4 daughters. They moved to Delaware in 1982. Mr. Niedermeier attended Faith Community Church in Camden, DE. He is preceded in death by his wife Catherine in 1997..

Betty Amatuzio Oboryshko, 77, of Wilmington, died at St. Francis Hospital on Friday, February 2, 2001.
Mrs. Oboryshko was a homemaker and a member of St. Elizabeth Church and the BVM Sodality. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, in December. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Ann Swiatek and a grandson, William J. “Billy” Swiatek, Jr., her sister, Theresa Walker, all of Wilmington, and several dear nieces and nephews.
