Penland, Margaret Krakowski
Margaret (Krakowski) Penland, 74, of Lewes, formerly of Wilmington, passed away at Beebe Medical Center on Monday, March 12, 2001 after a short illness.

Mrs. Penland was a secretary for McHugh Electric for over 30 years until her retirement. She was a member of the American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro, and of the Ledies Auxilary VFW Post 3257. A graduate of Wilmington High School, she also earned her real estate license. She stayed in touch with family and friends through her computer. She was an avid animal lover. Her longtime companion, Elwood Nabb, Sr., predeceased her in 1998.

She is survived by a daughter, Christine DiBiaso of Wilmington; a step daughter Patricia Hawkins and her husband Joseph of Lewes; stepsons, Jack Nabb and his wife Barbara of New Castle, Elwood Nabb, Jr. and his wife, Tina, of Wilmington, and David Nabb of Lewes; grandchildren, Rick Hein of New Castle, Frank DiBiaso, Jr. of Wilmington; a sister, Eleanor Clifton and her husband Elwood of Millsboro; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 19 at 12 noon at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington, where friends are invited to call one hour prior. Entombment will be at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

Pierson, Frances S.
Age 84, of Wilmington, DE passed away on Dec. 3, 2000 at the home of her daughter. Her parents were Mary and Milan Smith of Searsport, Maine. Frannie was born in Woolwich, Maine on October 25, 1916. She graduated from the University of Maine as Phi Beta Kappa of her class with majors in French and Latin and a minor in physical education. She taught in Falmouth, Maine for five years & coached the winning girls’ basketball team. Frannie met her husband, Henry Pierson, at the University of Virginia in 1939 and were married in Augusta, Maine on Dec. 26, 1943. Her late husband was a teacher at Chester High School for many years. They have two children, Douglas Pierson of Drexel Hill, PA and Virginia Warren, both born in Wilmington. Frances is also survived by three sisters: Carol Cervone, Ruthanne Stevens, and Marlene Smith and son-in-law Paul Warren. She loved her family very, very dearly and had five grandchildren: Adam, Glen and Cory Pierson and Kenny and Amanda Warren. She also had 4 neices and a nephew and may loving cousins in Maine. Frannie touched each person’s life she encountered with a special warmth & magnetism and sincere interest. Her outlook and interests stayed so young that she remained popular with all age groups. Her outlook and philosophy were guieded by strong prayers and being able to live the Serenity Prayer. Francis was loved by so many because her passion was in living and loving people of all backgrounds. She was a friend to anyone who was in need. The last seven years she was a regular aide in her daughter’s class at Heritage Elem. School. Frances taught at Wilmington High School for 22 years. She taught Latin, French and English. She was Teacher of the Year there and a quote from her school said “ Mrs. Pierson was a dedicated teacher who worked tirelessly with her students and who did not have the word “no” in her vocabulary.” She gave unstintingly of her time & love to her students. She took them to Italy twice and took caravans of students to her cabin in Maine. Frances’ real passion were her family & friends and her summers on Echo Lake in Fayette, Maine with her Maine family, She was the center of activity on the lake. She was known as the “Hostess with the Mostess.” She loved to swim & taught many to swim. She also swam at the Clarence Fraims Boys’ Club in Elsmere, DE Frannie will be missed by many. Her “I’m fine, deahs” and quick smile will be lasting memories. Her saying was “A smile costs nothing but gives much.” The example she gave to all in how to live with love and to die with grace & strength will live on in all of us.

Pitts, Francis "Frank"
FRANCIS “FRANK” PITTS, of Dover died April 4, 2001 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Route 9 just north of Little Creek. He was 30.

Mr. Pitts was born October 4, 1970 in Wilmington, Delaware.

He worked at the Air Base Carpet Mart on S. Little Creek Road, Dover for 9 years where he sold and installed carpets.

He was a member of the Little Creek Volunteer Fire Co., Little Creek.

He also enjoyed playing billiards, was an avid Eagles fan, and played softball.

He is survived by his mother: Deborah Miller, of Dover; grandfather: Ropey Hand; Stepfather and his wife: James & Donna Miller of Dover; 3 sisters: Virginia Chapman and her husband James of Dover, Debbie Richardson and her husband Tony of Dover; Jammie Miller of Dover; a brother: Thomas Miller of Middletown; 4 nephews, 3 nieces; numerous friends from Little Creek and the Fire Dept.

Funeral services will be held 2pm Monday, April 9, 2001 in the Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover. Friends may call one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.

Plesiak, Marion
Marion Plesiak, 85, of Wilmington died Saturday morning December 2, 2000, at Shipley Manor.

He retired from Fierro & Sons in 1980 after more than 25 years of service. He was a lifetime member of St. Hedwig Church.

Mr. Plesiak is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Mary and son-in-law Jim Winnington of Wilmington, Christine and son-in-law Ken Greenfield of Wilmington, and Joanne and son-in-law Joe McNichol of York, PA. He is also survived by his niece Krystyna Wolanski, and grandchildren; Michael, Anthony, Jennifer, Kenneth, Jr., Monica, Melissa, Beth, Danny, Bernadette, and Emily. His wife, Stefania, died in July of this year.

Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, 10:30 Am at St. Hedwig Church, 408 S. Harrison St. Wilmington. Calling hours will be Tuesday evening 6-8 PM at, MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, Limestone and Milltown Rds. Interment All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Hedwig Ramp Fund, 408 S. Harrison St. Wilmington, DE 19805 or Talleyville Fire Company, 3919 Concord Pike, Wilmington, 19803.

Plummer, Andrew "Andy" L.
Andrew “Andy” L. Plummer, 16 of Wilmington, died December 23, 2000 from injuries sustained from a car accident. Andy was a Junior at McKean H. S. and worked as a cashier at Best Buy. He also studied karate for nine years reaching the level of 1st Degree Black Belt in Nov. 1998. His pride and joy, along with family and friends, was his ’68 Camero that he worked on with his father. Andy is survived by his mother and father, Michael & Barbara Plummer, maternal grandmother, Mrs. Helen Fillingame, paternal grandparents, Carl & Shirley Plummer of Broadkill Beach, DE, Uncles and Aunts, Kip & Dee Fillingame of Wilm., Matthew & Valerie Plummer, Mark and Patricia Plummer, Patricia and Jim Barcziewski all of Wilm., several cousins and many friends. Services will be on Saturday, December 30, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. in the MCCRERY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, Kirkwood Hwy & Duncan Rd.where friends may call on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. Burial in All Saints Cemetery. Pollitt, Elinor Mulvena
Elinor Mulvena Pollitt, 87, of Lewes, DE, died at the Beebe Medical Center on Friday, March 2, 2001.

Mrs. Pollitt was a homemaker and a member of St. Edmond’s Church in Rehoboth and the BVM Sodality. Her husband, Elmer, died in 1983. She is survived by two sisters, Lillian T. Pufahl of Hockessin and Betty Ann Lynch of Wilmington, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and great nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 10 at 10:30 am at St. Elizabeth’s Church, Cedar and Clayton Streets, Wilmington where friends may call after 10 am. Interment will be at Gracelawn Memorial Park, DuPont Highway, New Castle. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Meals on Wheels, Route 9, Box 135, Lewes, DE 19558.

Powell, Howard M
Parsonsburg: Howard M. Powell, 76, of Parsonsburg died on Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Parsonsburg on February 12, 1925 he was the son of the late James W. Powell and Virgie Mae Bailey. Mr. Powell was the former owner/operator of Powell’s Texaco Station in Pittsville as well as Powell’s RV Sales in Parsonsburg. A sister, Edna Mae Rigsbee of Stem, North Carolina, a very good friend, Thelma Stevens of Parsonsburg and several nieces and nephews, survives him. A graveside service will be held on Friday at 11:00 A.M. at Jerusalem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Parsonsburg. The Rev. Sam McWilliams Will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Powell to the Parsonsburg Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 208, Parsonsburg, MD 21849. The staff of Bounds Funeral Home on E. Main St. in Salisbury is handling the arrangements.

Preisen, Sr., TSGT, Duane A.
Duane A. Preisen, SD.., 66, Dodwood Dr., Magnolia, passed away Wednesday February 14, 2001 at KGH Bay Health Dover.

He was born on October 25, 1934 in Grand Forks, ND to Frank and Elzabeth (Brooks) Preisen.

Mr. Preisen was retired from the USAF as a TSGT with 21 1/2 years of service. He is also a retired from the City of Dover from the water Dept. with 16 years of service. He worked at Chesapeake Utilites for 8 years as a meter reader. He was a life member of the Magnolia Vol. Fire Dept. and member of the First Baptist Church of Frederica. He is preceeded in death by his sister Vivian Arnold..

He is survived by his Wife of 19 years, Carol A. Preisen of Magnolia, DE. Son and his wife, Richard T. and Jodie Preisen of Moriarty, NM. Son and his wife, Duane A. and Bonnie Preisen, Jr. of Magnolia, DE. Son and his wife, Gerald W. and Georgianna Grow, Jr. of Hartly, DE., Son and his wife Shawn C. and Laura Preisen of Sembach, Germany, . Son, Jonathan Preisen of Hartly, DE. Daughter, Pamela S. Preisen of Wilmington, DE. Brother and his wife, Ray and Susie Preisen of Shingle Spring, CA. Brother and his wife, Byron and Phylis Whitney of Poulsb, WA. Price, Anna Marie
ANNA MARIE PRICE, AGE 81, OF SEAFORD, DE DIED ON FRIDAY, JULY 21, 2000 AT GENESIS HEALTH CARE, SEAFORD CENTER OF HEART FAILURE. MISS PRICE WAS A SELF-EMPLOYED SEAMSTRESS AND LICENSED BEAUTICIAN FOR OVER 35 YEARS IN SEAFORD. SHE WAS THE DAUGHTER OF THE LATE JOSEPH N. AND GOLDIE MAE PRICE. HER BROTHER JOSEPH M. PRICE SR. Prileau, Geneva
Geneva Prileau of Federalsburg died March 5, 2001 at her residence. She was 75.

She was born in Charleston, SC on May 14, 1925, the daughter of the late James Prileau Prioleau (this is correct-both names) and Agnes Frazier Prioleau.

She had worked for Con Agra. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Federalsburg where she served on the usher board.

She is survived by a two daughters, Carrie Prioleau of Brooklyn, NY, Anita Prileau of Federalsburg, a son, William Prileau of Georgetown, DE, two grandchildren; three sisters, Alice Bennett, Pearl McGill, and Mary Watson all of Charleston, SC, three brothers, Frank Prioleau of Charleston, SC, Lewis Prelow of New Jersey, Jeff Prelow of Jacksonville, FL. She was preceded in death by a brother, Aaron Prioleau.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2001 at 1:00 p..m. at Zion U.M. Church in Federalsburg with Rev. Vanessa Stephens Lee officiating. Interment will follow at Federal Hill Cemetery in Federalsburg. Friends may call at the church two hours prior to the service.

Ruth G. Pruitt

Age 83 of March Wilmington died Tuesday, March 6, 2001 in the Kentmere Nursing Home in Wilmington. Mrs. Pruitt worked for F. W. Woolworth Company at 9th and Market Sts, for 40 years. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church, where she was actively involved in ministry. She was predeceased by her husband, Aubrey Pruitt; and her brother George Rapp of Williamsport, PA. She is survived by nieces and nephews who reside in PA. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the grave side service at Gracelawn Memorial Park, DuPont Hwy., New Castle on Friday, March 9 at 2:30 pm. Quillen, Evelyn Marie Elrick
Evelyn Marie Elrick Quillen of Liberty Road in Federalsburg, MD died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001 at her residence. She was 93.

She was born in Frostburg, MD on April 21, 1907, the daughter of the late John Edward and Marie Glime Elrick. Her husband, William R. Quillen, preceded her in death on March 6, 1980.

She was a graduate of Federalsburg High School and Salisbury State College. She owned and operated a grocery store, was a school teacher and homemaker. She was a member Union United Methodist Church in Federalsburg, a member of the former Nanticoke Eastern Star Chapter #640. She was a member of the Federalsburg Senior Center and the Senior Serenaders.

She is survived by two sons and their wives, Elrick R. and Dorothy "Dot" Quillen, of Georgetown, DE and Ronald H. and Cecelia Quillen of Woodbridge, VA; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph Elrick of Federalsburg; two brother, Dale Owens Elrick and Alton Elrick, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg with Rev. David Heistand and Rev. Peter Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Cemetery in Federalsburg. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 7:00 -9:00 p.m. An Eastern Star service will be held at 8:00 p.m.
