Hickman, Howard

Howard Hickman, 73, passed away November 23, 2010 at Kent General Hospital.

He had worked at Spence's Bazaar as a maintenance mechanic and was affectionately known as "Hickey".

Hickey enjoyed riding his bike and was known to help others.

He is survived by two children June Hobbs of Felton and Howard G. Hickman of Greenwood and a close friend Fanny Mae Morris of Dover.

Services are private.

Wood, Daniel B.

Daniel B. Wood, 55, of Dover passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2010 in the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford.

Daniel was born on April 16, 1955 in Wilmington, Delaware.

He received his RN degree in nursing from Delaware Technical College and had worked at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill, Smyrna.

Daniel hobbies included the outdoors and fishing. His pets were an important part of his life. He had a devotion to his dog Karma and enjoyed showing her at dog shows. Two of his favorite cats were Lucy and Sienna.

He is preceded in death by his father R. C. Wood, Jr.

Daniel is survived by his mother Pauline Wood of Magnolia, a sister D. Lynette Palen of Lewes, niece Lesly Kababik of Townsend, a nephew Robert E. Ergenzinger of Austin, TX and grandnephews Casey and Keith Ergenzinger, Kie and Kaleb Kababik.

In Dan's birth family he was preceded in death by a sister Mary (Joy) Blakely. He is survived by birth family, siblings X. Isom Edwards, James Edwards, Norman Beck, Deborah Whitehead and Beth Irwin.

A gathering in remembrance will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, November 27, at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.

King, Nathan "Nay"

Nathan "Nay" King of Dover passed away Sunday, November 21, 2010 at home. He was 57.

Nay was born on October 21, 1953 in Opp, Alabama.

He served his country proudly in the USAF for 21 years retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant.

Nay will be remembered as a people person.

He is preceded in death by his father R.G. King.

Nay is survived by his mother Henery Elma King of Opp, AL, wife Francine (Whyte) King, two sons Nathan King II and his wife Jenell of Wilmington, Jonathan King of Wilmington, step daughter Nichelle Harvey of Columbus, OH, paternal grandmother Ines Lee of Opp, AL, brother Cloy King and his wife Laynora of Auburn, GA, two sisters Debra King and her husband Nicholas of Stamford, CT and Cachina King of Winterhaven, FL and a host of family and friends.

Service will be 11:30 am Monday, November 29 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may gather one hour earlier. Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

Mann, Anita L.

Anita L. Mann of Dover passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Green Meadows, Dover. She was 71.

Anita was born in Chester, PA, daughter of the late Herbert and Flora (Anderson) Connison.

She enjoyed life as a homemaker.

Anita is also preceded in death by a son Ronald Mann and a daughter Terri Mann.

Anita is survived by three children David Mann of Springfield, PA, Lori Campagnini of Camden and Cari Stull of Federalsburg, MD, a sister Anna Harris of New Castle 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 11:00 am Wednesday, November 24 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may gather one hour earlier. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 307 Market St., Marcus Hook, PA 19061.

Forston, Connie L.

Connie L. Forston, 60, of Harrington, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 19, 2010.

Connie served as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed baking, making crafts, and scrap-booking pictures of her family.

She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Narl Forston; 6 children, Jonathan Forston of Milwaukee, WI, Jennifer (Daniel) Martin of Harrington, Joshua (Anna) Forston of Frederica, Jullie Turner of Milford, Jeremy Forston of Bear, and Jordan (Amanda) Forston of Bridgeville; sister Sondra (Edward) Krolicki and brother Richard (Millie) Ayala of FL; 12 grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and many loving friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. at Greenwood UMC, 101 W. Market St., Greenwood, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be mailed to Greenwood UMC's neXgen youth group at P.O. Box 2017, Greenwood, DE.

Burchenal, Caleb Lockwood

Caleb Lockwood Burchenal of Dover passed away Thursday, November 18, 2010 in his home. He was 97.

Caleb was born on July 1, 1913 son of the late Hyland and Florence Dunn Burchenal.

He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during WWII. Caleb graduated from Caesar Rodney High School, Class of 1933. He owned and operated Burchenal Oil in Wyoming which he started in 1944 and which continues today.

Caleb was a life long member of the Odd Fellows in Camden and was a charter member of the Dover Elks.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Caleb is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Pauline Burchenal in 1999 and a daughter Sandra Burchenal in 2005.

He is survived by his son Terry Burchenal and his wife Shari of Dover and a daughter Sue Gray, and her husband Larry of Woodside, four grandchildren Paula Pokorny of Camden, Kristin Subrick of Lewes, Laurie Hake of Woodside and Brooke Bembenek and six great grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 11 am Tuesday, November 23 at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Woodside United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 45, Woodside, DE 19980.

Burgess, Sr., Gordon E.

Gordon E. Burgess, Sr., 67, of Lincoln passed away September 24, 2010 at home.

He was born on July 5, 1943 in Burlington, NJ son of the late Renodine and Dorothy (Hayes) Burgess.

Gordon served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam. He then worked as a carpenter.

He is survived by three children Melissa Miller of Dover, Gordon E. Burgess, Jr. of Lewes and Meisha Lamiotte of Georgia, three sisters Ruth Wharton of Dover, Lisa Walsh of Townsend and Sherry Rucker of MD and a brother William Burgess of Dover, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Service will be 12 noon Tuesday, October 5 in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave. Wyoming, where friends may gather one hour earlier. Burial will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the funeral home to help with expenses.

Hoffstein, Stanley M.

Stanley M. Hoffstein, 87, who is now home in heaven passed quietly in his sleep on January 18, 2011.

Mr. Hoffstein was born in Philadelphia, PA on September 11, 1923, son of the late Albert H. and Clara M. Hoffstein.

As a young man, he proudly served his country in the US Army and received both the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and Good Conduct WWII Victory Medal, with pending award of the Purple Heart. He was a lifelong member of the Washington Lodge of Wilmington, DE and attended the Capitol Baptist Church of Dover.

He graduated from the Philadelphia College of Art, University of Pennsylvania, and earned a Master's degree from the University of Delaware. Stan worked primarily in industrial design and held several patents for his work at International Laytex in Dover, DE. Additionally, he worked as an industrial arts educator at Smyrna High School and Polytech, Woodside.

He is survived by his wife Nancy P. Hoffstein, three children, Mark Hoffstein, Kurt Hoffstein, Beth Sowden, stepdaughter Karen S. Powell, a brother Jules (Ace) Hoffstein, seven grandchildren and a niece.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 24, at 11 am, at the Capitol Baptist Church, 401 Kesselring Ave., Dover. Burial service will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the Veterans Cemetery, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to Home of the Brave, 6632 Sharps Rd., Milford, DE 19963.
