Trotta, Jean Marie

HARRINGTON - Jean Marie Trotta, of Harrington, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 78.

Mrs. Trotta was a homemaker. She enjoyed collecting various items and looked forward to the shopping trips, sales, and auctions to find these items. Auctions were a top priority, as she enjoyed the hunt.

She was also a great cook. She enjoyed cooking all the time, and looked forward to Christmas when she could bake her cookies, fudge and everything else that goes along with the holiday. She also looked forward to giving presents to her family, and spending time with them.

The trait that she will be remembered for is her honesty. She was set in her ways, and would tell you exactly what was on her mind, but she was also very giving. Her family was her life, and especially loved spoiling her grandchild and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Marie Messick.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Jesse Trotta Jr. of Harrington; son, Michael Trotta of Harrington; brother, Robert "Bobby" Messick of Farmington; granddaughter, Margo Moyer of Harrington; great-grandchildren, Karinne, Kallie, Kurt, Cael, and Kyra Moyer.

Services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where a visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 7. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Bernadette Building Fund, 109 Dixon St., Harrington, DE 19952.

Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington.

MacKenzie, Michael J.

Michael J. MacKenzie, 36 FELTON - Michael J. MacKenzie, of Felton, died Saturday, April 17, 2010, at home. He was born in Chester, Pa., to the late Dian Alyce Howland and William Thomas MacKenzie of Felton.

Mr. MacKenzie worked as the head cook for the Touchdown Restaurant in Dover for over 10 years, and at Green Stingers Restaurant in Woodside.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR, Eagles Football, and barbequing and catering parties for other people.

He was a very quiet person who was well liked for both his personality and sense of humor.

Mr. MacKenzie belonged to the Camden/Wyoming Moose Lodge, and the Sons of Legionnaires.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded

in death by a brother, William J. MacKenzie. In addition to his father, he is survived by his stepmother, Margie MacKenzie of Felton; sister, Jenna Marie MacKenzie of Felton; and aunts and uncles, Georgeanne and David Joyner of Rock Hall, Md., David and Lucille MacKenzie of Elkton, Md., Maria and Tom Lyons and their daughter Lindsey of Felton.

A memorial service will be scheduled in the future.

Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington.

Engelhardt, Marjorie Jean

WILMINGTON, DE - Marjorie Jean Engelhardt passed away Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, at home with her loving family by her side. She was a breast cancer survivor who lost her battle with leukemia. Marjorie was the daughter of the late Vincent and Ruth Hemmer.

Mrs. Engelhardt worked in central supply at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y. for over 15 years, as well as being a homemaker.

She loved sewing, and belonged to a Sewing Guild and enjoyed making her own clothes, as well for her children and grandchildren. Her favorite activities included shopping, gardening, and singing in the choir at church. She loved spending time with her family and hosting holiday dinners.

She will be remembered as a caring and loving person who would give you the shirt off of her back. She was very outgoing and made friends with everybody. Her kindness was balanced with a great sense of humor that always kept you laughing. Her upbeat attitude and generosity will be greatly missed by her family and close friends.

Mrs. Engelhardt was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Denton and a former president of the Senior Womens Club in Tampa, FL.

Mrs. Engelhardt is survived by her loving husband, George Englehardt of Wilmington; sons, Steven Lunberg of Knoxville, Tenn., Mark Lundberg of Sugarland, Texas ; daughter, Susan Stock of Denton, Md.; sister, Joanne Gardner of El Cajon, Calif.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Service will be held Monday, Nov. 22, 2010 at 12:00 Noon at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, DE 19952. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington, Del.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 702B Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE. 19805.

Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington, DE.

Dennis E. 'Meat Man' Beene, 60

HARRINGTON — Dennis E. "Meat Man" Beene, of Harrington, died Friday, May 21, 2010, at his residence surrounded by loved ones. He was 60.

Mr. Beene was a meat cutter for Food Lion. Everyone in town knew him and he was well liked, and known as the Meat Man. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting and socializing with family and friends.

He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and brother, and will be sadly missed.

Mr. Beene belonged to the Harrington Moose Lodge, and the American Legion of Harrington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce B. and Geneva Beene; brother, Douglas Beene; and sisters, Dorothy Nash, and Ester Combs.

He is survived by a son, Jordan Beene of Dover; daughters, Lindsey Beene of Harrington, and Melissa Hardy of Milford; brothers, Carlos Beene of Harrington, James Beene of Harrington, Bobby Beene of Felton, and Bruce Beene Jr. of Harrington; sisters, Betty Cagle of Harrington, and Hilda Stewart of Felton; and grandchildren, Seth Veach, and Dustin Hardy.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where a visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday evening. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Dennis Beene Memorial Fund for Seth Veach, care of Heather Standish of Citizens Bank, 8 West Loockerman Street, Dover, DE 19901.

Hudson, Leona B.

MALONE, N.Y. - Leona Brown Hudson died peacefully in her sleep on Dec. 8, 2010. She resided at Franklin County Nursing Home, Malone, N.Y. She was 89.

She was born in Marathon, N.Y., and until recently, lived most of her life in Delaware.

Leona graduated from Binghamton, N.Y., Nursing School and worked at Kent General Hospital for 27 years. Mrs. Hudson was a wonderful mother, grandma, sister and friend. Her favorite saying was "It will all work out." She started every day by saying, "This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it." Leona cherished her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Hudson was a member of the Viola U.M. Church, Fruitland Grange, Kent County Links, past leader of Paradise 4-H club, and charter member of the VFW Auxiliary #6921.

In addition to her parents, Norman N. and Mildred G. Brown, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel H. Hudson Jr.; sister, Marion Robinson; daughter-in-law, Susan H. Hudson; and sister-in-law, Mary Catherine Hudson.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Clifford W. and Judy Hudson of Harrington, Charles A. and Barbara Hudson of Chateaugay, N.Y.; daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie H. and Chuck Armstrong of Wheaton, Ill.; brothers, Thomas A. Brown of Marathon, N.Y., and Lawrence L. Brown of Marathon, N.Y.; sisters, Laura Meachill of Poulsbo, Wash., and Elinor Banks of Livingston Manor, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and spouses, David C. and Victoria Hudson of Milford, Karen H. and Michael McGee of Russellville, Ky., Robert D. Armstrong of Chicago, Ill., Daniel R. and Heather Armstrong of Wheaton, Ill., Jennifer S. Hudson of Viola, Ryan C. Hudson of Chateaugay, N.Y., and Melissa K. Hudson of Viola; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where a visitation will be held two hours prior to the service. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Felton-Viola U.M. Church, PO Box 247, Felton, DE 19943; or to the Delaware Alzheimer's Association.

Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South Dupont Hwy., Harrington, DE 19952.

Margaret M. Horst, 87

HARRINGTON - Margaret M. Horst, of Harrington, died July 20, 2010, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial. She was 87.

She was born in Pottstown, Pa., to the late Lawrence and Marie Focht.

Margaret was a housewife and mother of three. She also helped her husband in his business, Horst Auto Tag Service, for 24 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family.

Margaret was a past president of the Northend Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary in Pennsylvania where she was a member for over 15 years. Margaret enjoyed making crafts including crocheting. She enjoyed bingo as well as going to the casinos. In her younger years, Margaret enjoyed travelling.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Horst; parents, Lawrence and Marie Focht; and brothers, Robert Focht, and Jack Bauer.

She is survived by a son, Robert L. Horst of Birdsboro, Pa.; daughters, Barbara Horst of Harrington, with whom Margaret lived, and Judith Maciak of St. Lawrence, Pa.; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 7 p.m., Saturday, July 24, 2010, in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where a visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date at Highland Memorial Park in Pottstown, Pa.

Donations may be made to the funeral home to help defray funeral costs.
