Joan C. Greenwood

Of Greenville, DE, passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at home with her family. She was 79 years old.

Born in Boston, MA and raised in Manhattan, NY, Joan was the daughter of Harold and Catherine Chrisman.

Joan enjoyed bowling, ceramics, knitting and cross-stitch, and belonged to a gourmet cooking group. She was a volunteer at A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children for over 12 years and participated in a number of activities at her church, St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. She found great enjoyment in the world-wide travels she made with her husband, son and friends. Her greatest joy in life was her family and supporting her grandchildren's growing interests and activities.

Joan is survived by her husband of 59 years, David Greenwood; her two sons, Steven Greenwood of Scottsdale, AZ and David Greenwood, Jr. of Halcott Center, NY; two daughters, Donna Mitchell and her husband, David of Wilmington, DE and Deborah Greenwood of Wilmington, DE; and two grandchildren, Jennifer and Andrew Mitchell.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 11 am at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 2200 Duncan Road, Wilmington, DE 19808.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Joan Greenwood Memorial Fund, c/o St. Barnabas Church at the above address or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at 2141 Rosecrans Ave., Ste 7000, El Segundo, CA 90245.

Margaret M. Olkowski

Age 80, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 3, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by her family.

Born in Wilmington, Margaret was the daughter of the late Francis E. and Hanna (Kerlin) Quill. She was a homemaker.

She will be dearly missed by her husband of 60 years, Theodore Olkowski, Sr.; her daughter, Joanne Mude of Bear; her sons, Mark Olkowski of Wilmington, Ted Olkowski Jr. and his wife Laverna of Bear, and Michael Olkowski and his wife Michelle of Wilmington; and eight grandchildren, Hannah, Kathleen, Michael, Nicky, Angel, Daniel, Katelyn and Erin. Also surviving are two sisters, Catherine Lenoir of New Castle and Alice Elliott of Newark; and a brother, William Quill of Wilmington.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 5th at 11 AM at Mealey Funeral Home, 703 N. Broom Street, Wilmington, where friends are invited to visitation after 10 AM. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

Anna D. Costello

Age 97, of Newark, DE, formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Churchman Village.

Born in Braddock, PA, Mrs. Costello was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Kasko) Ducar. She was a retiree from Wilmington Trust Company.

She is survived by her sons, James of South Carolina and Raymond and his wife Carol of Wilmington, DE; two grandchildren; Christopher Costello and Kelly Allison, and two great grandchildren, Tyler and Xavier Allison.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 4th at 10:30 AM at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington. Friends and family are invited to visitation on Tuesday morning from 9 AM to 10 AM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Mid County Senior Center, First Regiment Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808.

Sandra Parkstone

Age 57, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at her vacation home in Earleville, MD on Wednesday, December 8, 2010.

She is survived by her husband of 39 ½ years, Dennis Parkstone; her son and daughter-in-law, Alexis and Dennis Parkstone IV of Wilmington; her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Virgil Pugh of Smyrna, DE; her mother, Betty (Allen) Randow; 8 grandchildren; 2 brothers and a sister and numerous loving family and friends

The family would like to thank Seasons Hospice for their professional and compassionate care.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 14th at 1 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, where visitation will take place after 12 PM. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

Joseph John Karwacki, Jr.

Age 84, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 surrounded by his family.

Born in Baltimore, MD, Joseph was the son of the late Helen T. (Andrysiak) and Joseph J. Karwacki, Sr. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II on the USS Wichita from 1943 to 1946. He worked as a mechanic for the Packaging Closure Division of Owens-Illinois for 35 years before his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the VFW Post 679 Glassboro, NJ and served as Post Commander from 1974-1975. Also, Joseph was a 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus, for the last 12 years with St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Council # 7990 and earned Fourth Degree Knight with the Cardinal Gibbons Assemble. A member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, he was especially active on the Carnival Committee.

Joseph was predeceased by his siblings, Carol, Jerome and Daniel Karwacki; and his son-in-law, Michael Szwak. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy (Andrien) Karwacki; his sons and daughter-in-law, Stephen J. and Catherine of Clermont, FL and Thomas M. Sr. of Williamstown, NJ; three daughters and sons-in-law, Angele M. and R. Jeffery Cooper of Williamstown, NJ, Helen T. and Thomas Fromm of Swedesboro, NJ, and Mary-Jo Szwak of Lindenwold, NJ; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday evening, December 12th between 5 and 7 PM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 345 Bear Christiana Road, Bear, DE and again on Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Church. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 AM. Interment will be private on Thursday, December 16th after a service at Glassboro United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Delaware Hospice, Inc., 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.

Theresa H. Burns

Age 90, of Hockessin, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 22, 2010 at Regal Heights.

Born in Wilmington, DE, Theresa was the daughter of the late Alexander and Frances Korwek. She worked for NVF and, later, the Pulaski School and was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas A. Burns in 1961 and her son, Thomas J. Burns in 2006.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia C. Burns of Hockessin; her son, John T. Burns of Hockessin; two brothers, Joseph and Stanley Korwek, both of Wilmington; and three grandchildren, Alexander, Robert and Jessica.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 26th at 10:30 AM at St. Elizabeth Church, Cedar and Clayton Streets, Wilmington where friends and family are invited to visitation after 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Elizabeth Church, 809 S. Broom Street, Wilmington, DE 19805 or to a charity of your choice.

Mildred A. Kunitsky

Age 96, of Elsmere, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 27, 2010 in the home of her devoted daughter, surrounded by family.

Born in Glen Lyon, PA, Mildred was the daughter of the late Andrew and Eva Belitza. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph M. Kunitsky in 2009, five weeks after celebrating 72 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Michael "Babe" Belitza and Harry Belitza, and a sister, Mary Ringawa, who lived with and was cared for by Mildred for nine years following the death of Mary's husband.

Mildred was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed visiting with her family and friends. Her home was always open to company, and a regular gathering place during holidays and on every Sunday when she would cook dinner for all her children and grandchildren. A devout Catholic, she had an enormously generous soul and offered help to any who needed it. Though she lived by limited means, when family needed a place to stay, she gladly welcomed them in, providing a home and meals for as long as needed, offering to share all that she had and refusing to take anything in return.

Mildred is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph R. and Jerie; twin daughters, Gloria Berardi and Sonya Protack and her husband, Ron; 7 grandchildren, Brett Breeding (Ginny), Pete Berardi (Maria), Paige Berardi-Hall, Keith Kunitsky (Diane), Craig Kunitsky (Bera), Bryan Kunitsky and Kristin Protack; 13 great-grandchildren, Jason and Taylor Breeding, Peter J. and Ava Berardi, Kendall, Amelia, Riley and Mackenzie Hall, Olivia, Nicholas, Lauren, Caiden and Sierra Kunitsky; and many nieces and nephews. Mom will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her generous, caring spirit and unwavering dedication to her family will inspire us forever.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 9:30am to 11am on Monday, January 3, 2011, at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, to be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Internment will be at the All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713 and/or Heartland Hospice House, 5661 Ochletree Lane, Wilmington, DE 19808.

Louise P. McQuesten

Age 94, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at Churchman's Village.

A Wilmington native, Mrs. McQuesten was the daughter of the late Horace and Irene (Morrison) Porter. She graduated from Wilmington schools and Goldey College. She worked at the Wilmington Public Library, Greenwood Bookshop, the DuPont Company, and Christ Church School office. She studied voice in both Wilmington and Philadelphia. She was a member of The Brandywiners and a soprano soloist at Christ Church in Christiana Hundred for several years. Mrs. McQuesten was a former member of the Wilmington Trail Club and Rock Manor Golf Club. She enjoyed aerobics, line dancing, walking, needlepoint, Cape May, NJ and sunsets. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond McQuesten in 1978, and by her brothers, Robert and Richard Porter.

She will be dearly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Ralph Ayars of Wilmington; her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Cory McQuesten of Anaheim, CA; her grandchildren, Wayne, Lisa, Lauren, Sean, Mandie and Amie; and five great grandchildren, Gavin, Gianni, Adriana, Faith and Laila.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 5th at 11 AM at Christ Church Christiana Hundred, 505 E. Buck Road, Wilmington, DE 19807 where friends are invited to visitation after 10:30 AM. Interment will follow in the Christ Church Memorial Garden.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720.
