Elizabeth M. White

Age 84, of Hockessin, DE passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 17, 2009.

Born in Smyrna Delaware, Mrs. White was the daughter of the late Charles and Bessie (Rausch) Staats. She worked as a registered nurse in the Pediatrics Department of Salem County Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1985 after 25 years of service. She was a resident of Carney's Point, NJ from 1960 until 2002. She was predeceased by her son, Charles "Chuckie" White in 1963 and by her brother, Earl Staats.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bruce P. and Dawn White with whom she lived; her daughter, Patricia E. White of Carthage, NC; her grandchildren, Tammy Mellen, Tiffane, Bruce P. II, Heather, Joshua and Gina who helped with her care; and her great-grandsons, Billy and Jordan. Also surviving are her sister, Helen Gildea of Hershey, PA; her brother, Charles Staats of Smyrna, DE; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 21st between 11 AM and 12 noon at Mealey Funeral Homes, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington. Funeral services will begin at 12 noon at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Lawnside Cemetery, Woodstown, NJ.

Cordrey, James F.

James F. Cordrey, age 72, of Laurel, Delaware went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 18, 2009 at home surrounded by his loving family.

James was born in Laurel a son of the late Maude and Isaac Cordrey.

A graduate of Laurel High School, he retired from the E. I. DuPont Company formerly of Seaford. He also had worked as a clerk for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and as a Supply supervisor for the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was the treasurer of the Laurel Sportsmen and Beagle Club. He worked at Wal-Mart for seven years. James enjoyed hunting, traveling, running his dogs and raising beagle field champions. Before his illness he was a member of the Delmar Wesleyan Church.

Mr. Cordrey is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years Irene Cordrey and his four daughters Renee Reynolds and husband Chuck, Loria Townsend and husband Jerry, Jana Cordrey and Jamie Cordrey. His son Wayne Hastings and wife Cathy. Grandchildren Stacey Hitch, Phillip Reynolds, Scott Reynolds, Jerry Townsend, Jr., Kevin Townsend, Mandie Moore, Lauren Townsend, Craig Hastings, Bobby Hastings and nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters Mary Farrelly and husband Brian and Peggy Ralph and a brother Melvin Cordrey.

He is preceded in death by his sisters Grace Holloway, Louise McGee, and a brother Richard Cordrey.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home 700 West Street Laurel, DE 19956 on Saturday May 23, 2009 at 11:00 am. Where a viewing will be held Friday Evening from 7-8:30 pm. The Rev. Jim Hitch and

Pastor Chuck Reynolds will officiate. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in Mr. Cordrey's honor to: Delaware Hospice 100 Patriot Way Milford, DE 19963 or the Alzheimer's Association of Sussex County 109 N. Bedford Street Georgetown, Delaware 19977.

Congleton, Prince Albert

Prince Albert Congleton, age 85, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at the Pinnacle Rehab and Adult Center in Smyrna, DE. He was born to Ada (Valentine) and John Congleton in Boothwyn, PA.

He was a WWII veteran serving time in the Navy as a Seaman Second Class on the USS Wainwright in the European Theatre, Pacific Theatre, and the Mediterranean Sea. In 1955 he married Helen E. Regenauer and moved to Smyrna.

After the war, he worked for International Union of Operating Engineers #542 of Phila, PA, retiring in 1981. Operating the big cranes for the IUOE, he helped set the steel for the twin spans of the Delaware Memorial Bridge. He was then employed at the Delaware Home & State Hospital for the next 4 years. In 1976 he established PAC's Locksmith Service.

He was a Master Mason with 25 years membership with Harmony Lodge #13, a 32nd Degree member of the Scottish Rite Wilm, DE, and the Nur Temple.

He belonged to the David C. Harrison Post #14 of the American Legion for 50 years, and was a legion ambulance driver for 35 of those years. He also held various positions in the Dept. of the American Legion of Delaware. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #8801 of Clayton, and the Diamond State Locksmith Association.

He is predeceased by his wife Helen in 1993; his parents; brothers John, Willard, Raymond, Earl, and sister Mary.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Maryellen and Ron Brown of Camden, DE; his three grandchildren Tracy Roth and her husband John of Erie, PA, LT. Col. David and Christina Brown of Colorado Springs, CO; and Bill and Jessica Brown of Middletown, DE. His great-grandchildren Taylor, Michaela, Sarah, Ian and Paige Roth of Erie, PA; and Ashley Brown, Alexa, Casey, and Jason Dunkelburger of Middletown, DE.

A funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 24, at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Harmony Lodge #13, P. O. Box 64, Smyrna, DE 19977 or the American Legion Ambulance Fund, David C. Harrison Post #14, 107 Glenwood Ave., Smyrna.

Arrangements are by Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Smyrna.

Lockwood, E. C.

E.C. "Dick" Lockwood of Dover passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009. He was 80.

Dick served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

He was the owner of Cosden-Evans Co.

Dick enjoyed woodworking and was a member of the BPOE 1903.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Eileen (Evans) Lockwood, three children Richard O. Lockwood and his wife Donna of Voorhees, NJ, James A. Lockwood and his wife Christine of Claymont and Cheryl L. Goldsmith and her husband Steve of Camden, six grandchildren Kristen, Mary Beth, Jennifer, Kevin, Katharine and Noah.

Services and burial are private. The family requests no flowers.

Truitt, George Coulter

Air Force

George Coulter Truitt, age 61, of Millsboro, Delaware passed away on May 18, 2009. George was born in Lewes, Delaware to the late George Edwin & Beatrice Dorey Truitt. He was a United States Air Force veteran, and was a retired corrections officer with 30 years of service. He served on the Millsboro Town Council for 7 years, and 6 years as the Millsboro Police Commissioner. He also served on the Millsboro Little League Board for 10 years. George was a member of the Hope Lodge Masonic Temple in Laurel, Delaware, American Legion Post #19, and VFW Post 7422 in Millsboro. George is survived by his wife Linda Truitt, son Christopher and wife Lisa of Millsboro, brothers, Arnold Truitt and wife Barbara of Georgetown, Thomas Truitt and wife Lora of Port Angeles, Washington, and sister Judy Rogers of Laurel, Delaware, 2 grand children, Martin Coulter Truitt, and Emily Alissa Truitt, several step brothers, and a large number of friends, extended family and professional associates. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday May 22, 2009 at 6:30 PM at Grace United Methodist Church Millsboro, Delaware, where Pastor Robert Hudson and Rev. Larry Lily will officiate. Richards, Vivian B.

Vivian B. Richards of Felton, Delaware, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family May 19, 2009.

She was 94.

Mrs. Richards was born December 14, 1914 in Felton, Delaware, the daughter of the late Arthur S. and Effie L. Bilow.

Mrs. Richards retired from the State of Delaware after many years working and as a Registered Nurse.

Vivian enjoyed sewing and knitting for people. She was also devoted to donating money to various charities.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Fay Richards; a grandson, John Patrick Medler; and a great-great grandson, Destin Reedy.

She is survived by a son, Arthur Dawson Richards of Eugene, Oregon; a daughter, Patricia Ann Patterson of Frederica, Delaware; a brother, Donald Bilow of Wyoming, Delaware; eight grandchildren, Melissa Finkbiner who was her caregiver and who loves and misses her dearly, Dewayne Medler, William Medler, Joshua Medler, Faith Reed, Simone Kilgore, Arthur Richards, and Thaddeus Richards; 19 great grandchildren; and ten great-great grandchildren.

Services will be Friday May 22, 2009 at 12 noon in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware where friends may call one hour prior to the services.

Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover, Delaware.

Arrangements are by Faries Funeral Directors and Crematorium Inc., 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware.

Mulrooney, Betsy B.

Betsy Mulrooney, 84, beloved wife, mother and grandmama, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on Monday, July 26, 2010; the feast of St. Ann.

Betsy was born in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of the late Anna (Early) and William Byrne. She was a graduate of Immaculata University and retired from the Delaware Trust Company. Betsy was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and a former member of St. Mary Magdalen Church. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Anna O'Sullivan and Eileen Pickar.

Betsy is survived by her husband of 60 years, Tuck Mulrooney; her daughters and their husbands, Pamela MacPherson and Tom of Wilmington, Nina Mulrooney and Al Dorof of Philadelphia, PA, Claire Mott and Fred of Newark and Lisa Becker and Bert of West Chester, PA; her son, Byrne Mulrooney and his wife, Lisa of Charlotte, NC and her nine grandchildren, Meoghan, Michael and David MacPherson, Melanie and Kevin Mott, Bridget and Kelly Mulrooney and Rachel and Melissa Becker.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 10 AM at St. Ann Church, Gilpin Avenue and Union Street. Friends may call at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, Limestone and Milltown Roads on Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM. There will be no morning calling hours. Burial will be in St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery, Greenville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Martin's Ministries, 14259 Benedictine Lane, Ridgely, MD 21660.

Phillips, Arthur M.

Arthur M. "Art" Phillips, age 79, of Smyrna, Delaware, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at home. Mr. Phillips was born in Chester, Pa to the late Arthur M., Sr. and Hazel Birney Phillips. He and his wife retired to Crystal River, Florida for 18 happy years before moving to Delaware 4 ½ years ago to be closer to their family.

Graduate of Prospect Park High School and attended Lincoln Prep.

Employed by Sun Oil Refinery for 35 years working as a 1st Class Rigger until his retirement 29 years ago.

A man devoted to his home and family. An avid sportsman he enjoyed baseball, golf & basketball. He was very active with the Delco Baseball League of Delaware County and managed a Teener League and Basketball Team.

Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret (nee Parsons) Phillips; One Daughter: Carol (John) White of New Jersey; Three Sons: Arthur "Artie" Phillips, III of Glenolden, PA; Donald (Marjorie) Phillips of Brookhaven, PA and Larry S. Phillips of New Jersey; Grandchildren: Tanya, Nicole, Donald, Jesse, Ryan, Stephen, Jared and Zack; Also survived by 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Minshall Shropshire-Bleyer Funeral Home, Middletown (Rte#352) and Knowlton Roads, Middletown Twp., Media, PA.

Relatives and friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Funeral Home.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Arthur Phillips may be given to Delaware Hospice, 911 South Dupont Hwy, Dover, DE 19904; or Kenton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 188, Kenton, DE 19955.
